R1 COMPIEGNE [L-H]

C1 – PRIX DE L’EMPEREUR NAPOLEON III – 2800m (a2m) – TURF – Class 2 Race – Flat – EUR € 28,000

  1. AZOU – 4th on his last run over 2350m at Strasbourg on May 28th in a Class 2 race. Has work ahead to beat some of his rivals
  2. BENAMIRA – Good 2nd in a Class 2 race at Angers on May 20th and 4th in a Group 3 race before that at Saint-Cloud in April. Key chance
  3. RODOYA – Won on her last run over 2400m at Compiegne on May 30th. Looks progressive and can not be discounted
  4. STUDY THE LADY – Got off the mark over 3000m at Dieppe in a maiden on May 24th. Ought to be thereabouts
  5. THROUGH THE FLAMES – Won on her last run over 2500m in a maiden race at Evreux on May 27th. Live contender
    Summary: BENAMIRA (2) brings solid recent form to the table, including a runner-up finish in a Class 2 contest at Angers in late May, and she gets the nod here. THROUGH THE FLAMES (5) opened her account at the third attempt with a win at Evreux, but she’ll need to find further improvement to challenge the selection in this stronger field. RODOYA (3), a course winner last month, is another to consider and commands respect.

  12. KENZEL – Colt by Zelzal, the dam was placed a few times. Looks good on paper and is from a respected trainer. Can have a say on debut
    Summary: KOMOREBI (3), a Godolphin-owned debutant, makes plenty of appeal on pedigree, being out of the high-class mare Lyric Of Light, a Group 2 and Group 1 winner in the UK. He is expected to be well-prepared for a winning debut. KENZEL (7), trained by a savvy operator, should also be forward enough to make a strong impact. ARTILLEUR (4) is another newcomer to note; his dam was a Listed winner, and he comes from a respected yard. SYDNEY SUNSET (5) rounds out the shortlist with a nice pedigree.

  17. DANCING FLAME – Nice 2L success on her last run at this track over 1600m on June 6th. She looks progressive and looks hard to beat

    Summary: DANCING FLAME (5) won nicely on her second start over 1600m at this track earlier this month by 2L. She was unlucky on her debut not to win after a slow start, and looks like a useful prospect. BADIE (6) ran well to be fourth in a Listed race last time and looks like the main danger to the selection. PAIX DES DAMES (3) was not up to Listed class last time, but these calmer waters are more appealing. DUNE (1) has consistent form and heads the rest.

PENTAOUR (4), a solid runner-up at Argentan last time out, is another with claims. ROUDOUDOU (13) warrants attention and won’t make things easy for his rivals, while top-weighted GALEGO STAR (1) remains a respected contender from the head of the handicap.

    Summary: CERAMIC (13) is a well-bred filly out of Terrakova, the Group 1 Prix de Diane winner, and looks primed to make a winning debut. She gets the vote ahead of EKLLEEL (1), who also boasts a strong pedigree and hails from a yard capable of readying one first time out. ZERIBA (3) has an appealing profile and is one to watch closely for any positive market signals. WARAMINI (11) is another debutante worth keeping an eye on in the betting ring.

    Summary: HORIZON DORE (6) has been running is some strong Group 1’s and has been far from disgraced. He drops significantly in class and should be too good for this lot. He looks a stand out on the card. DILAWAR (1) notched up another win at Listed level and appears to be the horse that could run second. BOLTHOLE (3) is 1.5kgs better off at the weights for a 1.5L beating and could close the deficit with Dilawar if not reverse the form. GAMESTARS (7) has been running well and brings useful form to the table but will need to up his game to win.

EASTERN STAR (7) continues to drop in the ratings and showed signs of life last time out which could see him earning. WUKHANN (2) was just behind the top choice last time out and should challenge.

  85. HAVIVA – Dam was unraced and this filly could just need the experience on debut. Others preferred
    Summary: ROMAZIA (2) ran with plenty of promise on debut and would have learnt a lot with that experience under her belt. She can go on better in this. She appears to be the first choice for leading connections. TIYANADA (1) was just touched off on debut and is another that would have tightened up with a run under her belt. She gets the services of the apprentice again and should be in the firing line. MOONLIGHT ROSE (13) and MOODY (12) both come from yards that can ready them up on debut and are fillies worth keeping an eye on. Both could be involved first up.

    Summary: MASAIYA (1) has produced three solid efforts this calendar year and looks to be ready to register another victory. Significant jockey booking enhances her claims. YES ZARA (6) is in terrific form at present having won her last two and looks to have a big chance off getting that hat-trick done. ROSETTA STONE (11) hasn’t been far off the action in recent outings and should be involved. SCREEN SHOT (16) has been such a consistent performer and will deliver another solid run.

  2. HULK CHANTEREINE – 5th of 16 in a 2725m amateurs Class G at Grenade-sur-Garonne on 1 June. Excels over the day’s trip and is sufficiently well-placed to give this a good go
  3. IBIS D’OR – Faithful servant in both professional and amateur ranks, most recently 2nd of 8 in a 2150m Vichy amateurs Class G 10 days ago. Enjoys a fine spot behind the car and can finally be rewarded with that elusive 5th victory
  4. INDIGOTE – Sanctioned, on 2nd start back, in a 3175m Issigeac Class F on 8 June and is not about to set off any fireworks
  5. HALFAC BILOU – Last of 8 behind IBIS D’OR (3) in a 2150m Vichy amateurs Class G 10 days ago and needs to find significantly more
  6. HORIZON PELSA – Returns to racing barefoot after finishing 9th of 11 behind IDEAL DE CALVETI (7) in a 2550m amateurs Class G at Beaumont-de-Lomagne on 24 May. Enjoys a good entry and from the front row can get in on the action
  7. IDEAL DE CALVETI – Failed to confirm Beaumont performance when sanctioned in a 2725m Grenade amateurs Class G 3 weeks ago. Goes well in the day’s configuration though and with stride in check can contest the finish
  8. HOORI DU PATURAL – Returns to the amateur division after running 3rd of 14 in a 3125m Monpazier Class F on 1 June. Starts wide but has form here and looks competitively well-in
  9. ISLANDE VOLSIN – Starts for first time since finishing 9th of 10 in a 3150m Ranes claimer last July and can be confidently ruled out
  10. HONORINE NAY – 8th of 16 behind IRELAND TEAM (12) in a 2600m amateurs Class F at Villeneuve-sur-Lot on 25 May. Not ideally-drawn and in current condition is unlikely to spice things up
  11. HAVANO DU THAY – Solid in last 2 amateur events, latterly 4th of 16 in a similar race here 3 weeks ago, and in spite of a 2nd-row start can nevertheless make his presence felt
  12. IRELAND TEAM – 5th of 16 in a 2600m amateurs Class F at Villeneuve-sur-Lot on 25 May. Appreciates the venue but goes shod this time and a minor place chance at best
  13. IDYLLE DU DIGEON – 8th of 16 behind ICEMAN CASTELETS (14) in a 2700m amateurs Class H at Miramont-de-Guyenne late last month. Is confirmed when shod but makes her Agen debut with limited prospects
  14. ICEMAN CASTELETS – Unexceptional 7th of 10 in a 2950m Toulouse Class F a fortnight back and the draw just complicates matters
  15. HIDALGO PLANCHETTE – 10th of 16 behind IRELAND TEAM (12) in a 2600m amateurs Class F at Villeneuve-sur-Lot on 25 May. Handed a rough number but imposed over track and trip in March and must not be underestimated
  16. ILFORD TERRIE – Out of the picture in last 3, latterly 9th of 13 in a 2850m Rostrenen claimer 2 weeks ago, and the draw will do him no favours
    Summary: Barring a blip on turf earlier this month, IBIS D’OR (3) has been in cracking form all season, appreciates these conditions and, from the 3-spot, can secure his first success for 2 years. IDEAL DE CALVETI (7) gave a fine account at Beaumont-de-Lomagne last month and will be no pushover if applied.     Summary: Enjoying something of a renaissance since moving yards, HOMMAGE DE TILLARD (1) makes his Agen debut on a hat-trick and in current condition has every chance of pulling it off. AL HABISSET (4) has not won for some time now but is consistent and can make the frame again. GAMECHANGER (6) has won at this track and is another to consider.

MONTERRICO (1) also struggled at Dax but was in good form before that and should be a real threat back on the PSF. BIG SURPRISE (5) likes this surface and can contest the finish. RUE HELENE (6) has won at this level and is improving, so must be respected in this line-up.

    Summary: A small field, but none of them can be safely ruled out from winning. KOVROV (5) reminded us what he is capable of with a solid course and distance victory, so he gets the top vote. DAR TOUNGI (3) was only modest at Toulouse but has won his last two starts over this track and trip. BAY D’ARGENT (6) is very consistent and also has a course and distance win to his name. CAMBRONNE (1) has been good all year and would not be a surprise winner.

    Summary: A very tricky lucky last race. TOOGOODFORSCHOOL (7) gets the vote to take it out after a good last run but does need to prove she is as effective on this surface. HOMME DE VALEUR (4) ran well at San Sebastián and could be a lively danger if repeating that performance. CERVARO (10) is not easy to trust but can go one better than his run at Vichy last month. BOLSHKINOV (2) has been a disappointment of late but can be competitive on his best form.
