Today selections
SIEGE OF ACRES – 16:40 Sedgefield (NAP)
SIEGE OF ACRES might well have gone close to winning had he not made such a mistake five fences from the finish on chasing debut at Musselburgh last month, but the experience won’t be lost on him and it’s not hard to see a far more polished performance at the second time of asking at Sedgefield. Donald McCain’s five-year-old was seemingly biding his time in three maiden hurdles around the turn of the year and on the evidence of his last run he’s going to make a considerably better chaser. He gets another chance from his opening mark of 98 and can prove up to the task.
DON’T MIND IF I DO – 16:20 Ludlow
DON’T MIND IF I DO, runner-up to Regent’s Stroll on his debut in a Newbury bumper a couple of years ago, has gone well fresh in the past and looks worth chancing back from a break and up in trip at Ludlow. He’s raced a bit keenly at times but is bred to stay this intermediate trip and he ran well for fifth behind We’re Red And Blue at Huntingdon when last seen in December. That form worked out quite well subsequently and the prevailing ground looks suitable.
BLUE LAKOTA – 19:30 Newcastle
There isn’t a huge amount of early pace on in this five-furlong sprint handicap and
BLUE LAKOTA is likely to be handy enough through the first couple of furlongs. A course and distance scorer in November and then again over six furlongs here in January, Kevin Ryan’s charge has held his form well since and his latest close third has been well advertised, with the winner and runner-up both scoring since. Blue Lakota can run off the same mark and will appreciate a return to the minimum trip on recent evidence.
