Alpha Sofie out to rebound at Caulfield

Trainer Peter Moody is confident Alpha Sofie can rebound when she heads to Caulfield for a Stakes race.
Alpha Sofie dented her perfect record for Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman when she failed dismally in the $1 million Inglis Sprint (1200m) at Flemington on February 28.
After going over the mare from top to bottom, Moody is confident Alpha Sofie is right to head back to the races again and she will contest the Group 3 Don Casboult Classic (1200m) tomorrow.
After starting her career in Queensland and being successful in her last two starts for Jason Edwards, Alpha Sofie made an immediate impact for Moody and Coleman winning the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley last spring.
Turned out for a spell post that victory, Alpha Sofie resumed with a solid Caulfield victory on February 7 in the Group 3 Peter Le Grand Stakes (1100m) before her poor performance up the straight at Flemington.
Moody said Alpha Sofie had bounced out that performance and is looking forward to the filly racing around a bend again.
“She’s flying,” Moody said.
“She just got a bump at the start the other day and then pulled her head off, which she’s never done before.
“That was down the straight for the first time for her. She charged and got lost.”
Moody has enough confidence in the filly that the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville in late April has been pencilled in Alpha Sofie.
“Hopefully this run will set her up to go to Adelaide for the Sangster,” Moody said.
“That was where she was going the other day if she had won, so she can have this one to get her back on track.”
With Zac Spain, who has ridden the filly in his three runs for Moody and Coleman, Sydney bound chasing Group 1 glory on Victorious Spirit in the Rosehill Guineas, Luke Nolen takes the seat tomorrow.
