THAT’S RANDOM – 17:28 Salisbury (NAP)
Some interesting novice/maiden events on the Salisbury card but the best bet might come in the three-year-old handicap over six furlongs. THAT’S RANDOM represents a shrewd yard in Harry Charlton and the well-bred son of Bated Breath is a half-brother to the same trainer’s 109-rated sprinter Completely Random. He’s had three quiet-ish qualifying runs on the all-weather and now switches to turf for his handicap debut from a moderate mark of 62. A big step forward could be in the offing from a decent drawn in stall five, next door to the likely pace-setter Marra Donna in four.
DANGER NAP – 17:35 Southwell
The fitting of cheekpieces, step up to three miles and switch to handicaps nearly brought about a first win for DANGER NAP at Warwick last month and, from just a 2lb higher mark, he’s backed to get the breakthrough at Southwell. Jonjo O’Neill’s improving five-year-old has a bit of experience of this course having finished fourth here in March and he’s likely to receive another prominent ride which looks a good move.
GONE ROGUE – 19:21 Brighton
GONE ROGUE looks worth another chance back at Brighton where he won over this course and distance back in October. He followed that triumph with a neck second at Bath, while he returned with another good run at Windsor. Newbury last time needs to be forgiven but this event doesn’t look a strong one by any means and many of the main form contenders have it to prove over the mile. Gary & Josh Moore’s charge is versatile in terms of trip and ground so gets the nod with good 3lb claimer Warren Fentiman coming in for the ride.
FRANCISCO’S PIECE – 19:42 Carlisle
With a bit more rain around, it could be worth taking a chance and backing FRANCISCO’S PIECE each-way in the five-furlong handicap at Carlisle. He’s not a reliable sort, admittedly, but he’s definitely well treated these days and shaped much better than previous starts when fifth at Doncaster on his final run in 2025. The comeback outing at Catterick in April earlier this year was entitled to be needed and dropping back in trip, on easy ground, from a tumbling mark, might just spark a resurgence here.
