Fine Form
Ed Bethell should enjoy a good afternoon at Catterick where
Haaderr CT – 4.10
looks his best chance in the Try Racing TV For Free Now Handicap.
The son of Mohaather is a half-brother to the useful La Botte and created a good impression last season.
Second on his first two outings at Haydock and Thirsk to rivals now with lofty ratings, he broke his duck at Southwell in October when beating an odds-on shot from the Gosden yard.
He is making a relatively late first start of his three-year-old season having been gelded in the interim, but an opening mark of 86 looks fair and he could go on to be quite a nice type.
Bethell saddles another interesting runner on the card in the shape of
Two Commanders CT – 3.40
in the Le Veinard 2026. Racing And Info Handicap.
Very lightly raced compared to his rivals, he will be having just his fourth lifetime outing compared to top weight Aberama Gold has his 120th.
That should mean he has much more room for manoeuvre off his initial mark of 78, though.
Unraced at two, he was a fine third on his debut to Mr Writer who has won again since, he then won a novice event at Catterick before being the only one to give the promising Anyasi a race at Leicester.
First time in a handicap might just be the best time to catch him.
South WEST CT – 2.40
is still a long way below his highest winning mark so could easily bring up his hat-trick in the Racing Again 22nd July Handicap.
Having lost his way with Ruth Carr the five-year-old, who has also been with Karl Burke and the Crisfords, moved to Robert Cowell this summer.
It paid dividends immediately with a win off 55 at Windsor and he quickly followed up under a 5lb penalty at Wolverhampton.
He is running off 67 here with another penalty and while it will be tough off top weight, he is not an old horse so could easily go on a roll.
At Yarmouth Adam Kirby’s
Horndean YA – 6.10
looks the type to improve on his debut effort in the Otex EBF Maiden Stakes
Owned by former trainer Peter Harris, he cost €120,000 at the Arqana sales and he made a pleasing start when third of 13 at Windsor.
The winner is now unbeaten in two and the second came out and won next time so that form looks red-hot in the context of this race.
At Bath Sir Mark Prescott’s
Campeona BT – 4.01
can give the yard a welcome winner in the Novacast Don’t Come Last Handicap.
Given her pedigree it was no surprise she found trips of up to a mile on the sharp side last season.
Off an opening mark of 58 she was a two-length second over just short of a mile and her half on her seasonal return and an extra two furlongs here should suit even more given she is related to winners up to two miles.
Prescott is a notoriously slow starter these days, but has had a frustrating run of seconditis recently.
At Lingfield Ralph Beckett drops
Golden Orbit LI – 5.20
back down into the calmer waters of the Hamways Handicap having run in a Listed race and a Group Two so far this season.
She is also fitted with first-time cheekpieces.
