LIGHT OF DAWN SHOULDSHINE AT CARLISLE

Fine Form
Wathnan have made an impressive start to the summer with their two-year-olds and
Light Of Dawn CL – 2.45
can book her Royal Ascot ticket in the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes at Carlisle.
The daughter of Showcasing was a E625,000 buy at the Arqana May Breeze-Up sales and is a half-sister to Listed-winning sprinters Miaharris and Time Scale, and her dam An Ghalanta also won at Listed level for Jim Bolger.
Retained rider James Doyle travels north for his only ride of the day, so everything points to Light Of Dawn being the latest Wathnan juvenile off the conveyor belt, with Karl Burke having a mightily impressive record of his own with two-year-olds.
Regal Envoy WD – 7.39
has been in smart form this season and is the pick to shine again in the Fitzdares Sprint Series Handicap at Windsor.
He was third behind the Jim and Fitri Hay-owned pair of Jakajaro and Dyonisos on his seasonal reappearance at Newmarket, and that form has been franked with Jakajaro winning a valuable York handicap and only being beaten a length and a quarter in Haydock’s Temple Stakes.
Regal Envoy came on for that run when running out a three-quarters of a length winner at Bath next time out, before a second behind Redorange (Listed fourth since) followed here, where he gave himself too much to do before finishing to some effect.
William Knight’s charge has an excellent record at this Thameside venue and must go close again off the same mark as last time.
Zatsgood LE – 4.35
can strike in the Mesothelioma UK Handicap at Leicester. A son of Frankel out of an Oasis Dream mare, the four-year-old was second on his sole juvenile start in France for Andre Fabre but has presumably had his problems since, as he did not make it to the track at all last year.
Having been gelded during the intervening period, Zatsgood was snapped up for just 10,000 guineas by George Boughey at a Tattersalls sale in February and is already beginning to look like a steal, with a couple of decent efforts in maiden and novice company on the all-weather followed by a successful handicap debut at Lingfield last month.
He has to contend with a 4lb rise in the weights, but remains open to plenty of improvement following just four lifetime starts and is in the right hands to carve out a decent career as a high-class middle-distance handicapper.
Laravie PO – 8.00
goes in search of a hat-trick in the Tony Bethell Memorial Handicap at Pontefract.
The seven-year-old four-time hurdle winner is perfect on turf on the Flat, winning over a mile and three-quarters at Salisbury before repeating the dose
over two miles at Catterick and now tries her luck over two miles and a
furlong.
