Christmas Day heads to Doncaster with the chance to turn an already impressive Classic campaign into something truly memorable when he lines up for the Betfred St Leger Stakes.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt has already achieved one of the biggest prizes available to a three-year-old by winning the Derby.
Now he faces a completely different examination at Doncaster, where the St Leger’s extended distance will place his stamina under the spotlight.
The St Leger is run over 1 mile, 6 furlongs and 115 yards, making it the longest of Britain’s five Classics.
The 2026 renewal is especially significant as it marks the 250th running of the historic race.
For Christmas Day, the challenge is straightforward but demanding: can he carry his Derby-winning class over the extra distance?
Winning the Derby demonstrates a high level of speed, class and racecraft, but the St Leger requires a horse to maintain its effort for considerably longer.
The long Doncaster straight can expose any weakness in stamina, particularly during the closing stages when the race begins to develop into a test of endurance.

O’Brien also has considerable strength in depth, with several other contenders connected to the Ballydoyle operation.

A victory at Doncaster would have enormous significance. Not only would Christmas Day complete a prestigious Derby-St Leger double, but he would do so in the landmark 250th edition of the St Leger.
