Fine Form
Jamie Snowden’s
Silver Hill NC – 2.31
can make the long journey north from Lambourn to Newcastle worthwhile with victory in the Sunday Lunch At The Border Minstrel Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase.
The Shirocco gelding did not finish outside the first two in his last four races over hurdles and now tackles fences for the first time on his seasonal reappearance and handicap debut at Gosforth Park.
He broke his duck over obstacles when winning at Catterick last November and was only beaten a neck and half a length on his next couple of outings back at the North Yorkshire venue on New Year’s Day and then at Newcastle.
Silver Hill signed off with a comprehensive win at Hereford in March and always looked the type to fare better once sent chasing and when stepped up to this three-mile trip.
Luminaries NC – 1.26
will go in search of a quickfire hat-trick for Ewan Whillans in the Mini Golf At High Gosforth Park Novices’ Handicap Chase.
The nine-year-old won for the first time since May last year over hurdles at Kelso earlier this month and quickly followed up at Southwell.
That most recent victory saw him handed a 6lb raise by the handicapper, but his revised mark of 82 is still some way short of his career-best of 97 and he can continue his resurgence back over fences.
Iamyouare BN – 2.46
can follow up her recent Southwell victory in the Kellyhill Financial Planning Mares’ Handicap Hurdle at Bangor.
Donald McCain’s mare was not winning out of turn in the Midlands following successive runner-up finishes, with the application of cheekpieces appearing to bring about the necessary improvement.
Assuming the headgear has the same effect at the second time of asking, she does not look badly treated off a mark of 110 and it is not often McCain leaves this track without a winner.
The Cholmondeley handler is also likely to have high hopes for
They Want Me BN – 3.16
in the Mount Vines Novices’ Handicap Chase.
The six-year-old has presumably had breathing issues in the past, but after wind surgery he was fitted with a tongue-tie for his most recent start over hurdles here in April and looked a different horse as he powered 10 lengths clear of the opposition.
He makes his fencing bow off a mark of 116, which could prove lenient if he is fit enough to do himself justice after a break.
My Mate Mackley CT – 2.10
has enjoyed a fruitful end to the season for Adam Kirby and can carry on that form at Catterick in division two of the Celebrating Helen Mackinnon’s LX Years Handicap.
A pair of Brighton wins has only seen him raised by 3lb and he can complete the hat-trick if handling these more demanding underfoot conditions.
Sassicaia CT – 4.10
catches the eye as the only runner on the card for Owen Burrows.
A winner on his debut at Wolverhampton last December, the son of St Mark’s Basilica has been placed a couple of times since and it could be that easier ground will see him in a better light in the Jumps Season Starts 20th November Handicap.
