Fine Form
Musical Times YA – 3.40
can remain unbeaten when she contests the Weatherbys Fillies’ Novice Stakes at Yarmouth.
Charlie Appleby’s runner scrambled home when well backed for her debut at Newmarket, but there was the promise of more to come.
The runner-up had the benefit of experience and there were some nicely-bred fillies in behind.
Musical Times has been handed an entry in the Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes later in the season, so even with a 7lb penalty she ought to be winning race of this nature.
Appleby should already be on the mark by then, with the unraced
Nabati YA – 3.09
in the Weatherbys EBF Maiden Stakes.
This colt is by Night Of Thunder, a stallion who is carrying all before him currently, and he has an interesting pedigree.
He cost 850,000 guineas and is a half-brother to Johnny Murtagh’s useful three-year-old Chicago Call.
With only three rivals, including two who hardly excelled on their debuts, this looks a good opening.
Toby Moore teams up with Ed Dunlop to ride
Hibernate YA – 2.39
in the Seadell Caravans “Hands And Heels’’ Apprentice Handicap.
Hibernate’s trainer Ed Dunlop provided Moore’s father Ryan Moore with some big winners early in his career, mainly through the remarkable filly Snow Fairy.
No doubt Dunlop will be feeling his age legging up his son, who already looks a chip off the block.
Richard and Peter Fahey’s
Chiwara NO – 2.30
faced a stiff task on debut at Ripon but showed enough to suggest she will be winning races without being a champion.
The Sands Of Mali filly is the first foal out of a six-furlong winner and gave a heavy odds-on favourite in Beauty Box something to think about.
Given the winner went for a Listed race last week, it shows Chiwara was up against it and she sets the standard in the EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes at Nottingham.
Ollie Sangster’s Liveinthelight scored on her handicap debut at Ffos Las and a 3lb rise might not stop her following up in the Construction Day 14th October Handicap.
Having only shown a modicum of ability in three previous runs it was difficult to know what to expect off a mark of 63 but a change of tactics transformed her as she made most of the running.
Tim Easterby’s
Storm Esme NO – 4.05
looked really promising last year but is in last chance saloon to prove she has trained on.
She won two of her three starts at two, with her only defeat in Redcar’s Two Year Old Trophy.
She has found things tough from a starting mark of 79, though, and has tumbled down to 67 in four runs.
Having shown a little bit of encouragement stepped up to seven furlongs last time out, she now goes up to a mile for the Watch Racing TV Now Handicap and remains of interest.
Newbury stage a potentially very interesting card with lots of interesting types in action.
One of those is Ed Walker’s
Royal Message NB – 6.50
by No Nay Never out of Royal Intervention who won the Group Three Summer Stakes for Walker and a Group Two in Germany.
She raced in the Lord and Lady Lloyd Webber silks, as does Royal Message who ran in a very hot Leicester race on her debut.
Having got a little lost mid-race, she ran on in eyecatching fashion to finish fifth behind none other than Albany winner Libertango.
Given natural improvement she can be expected to go close in the Gracelands EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes.
