COUNT ON KELPIE AT AYR

Fine Form
Kelpie Grey AY – 8.00
has been in sparkling form at Musselburgh in recent weeks and if he can transfer that to Ayr, he could take some beating in the Weddings At Western House Hotel Handicap.
A length-and-three-quarters winner over a mile on his seasonal bow in April, Kelpie Grey ably dealt with a 5lb rise to make all over seven furlongs at the start of this month.
He looked decent value for the winning margin of two and a quarter lengths, so the extra 6lb he carries now may not be enough to anchor him.
Kelpie Grey is trained by Jim Goldie who could also be on the scoresheet with
Tafsir AY – 9.00
in the concluding Book Fitzdares Raceday On 22 May Handicap.
The five-year-old has been a regular visitor to Ayr of late, running with real consistency off her current rating, and it would be no surprise to see her find the target sooner rather than later.
A return to a quicker surface can see
Kingmont BE – 4.45
regain the winning thread in Beverley’s All-New All-Electric Lexus RZ Handicap
Down the field on her only juvenile start, she looked a different proposition on reappearance when digging deep to grab the glory in a Kempton maiden by a neck.
However, deep ground at Doncaster did not suit just under two weeks later when she came home third, beaten 11 lengths, on what was her handicap debut.
Her mark has been left unchanged on 73 and it is possibly best to just put a line through that run.
Paul Midgley has won the last two runnings of the Annie Oxtoby Memorial Handicap and can take the first division this year with stable debutant Masterclass.
Knocking on the door on the all-weather this spring when trained by David Simcock, the five-year-old remains well treated and has joined a team who often excel with sprinters.
Pontefract third Herakles gives the Midgley team useful claims in the second division of the five-furlong event, but preference is for Declan Carroll’s
Fortunate Star BE – 3.45
who kept on well to score at Catterick last month and could have more in the locker.
Notre Maison CP – 7.10
can impress in the Shania Twain Live In July Handicap at Chepstow.
Returning from a 187-day break, she claimed a narrow fourth at Wolverhampton last month, perhaps just finding the six furlongs a stretch as she relinquished the lead with the finishing post in sight.
Beaten a neck, she should enjoy dropping back to the minimum trip at a track where she has run well in the past.
Coniston Clouds SO – 3.00
can shine stepped up to an extended three miles in the Racing Welfare Supporting Racing’s Workforce Handicap Chase at Southwell.
A chase winner over two miles and three furlongs back in November, he suffered a fall the next time but that appeared not to have left a mark when he ran well enough for third at Ayr in March.
He was staying on all the way to the line that day over an extended two and a half miles, so this move up looks a logical progression.
