WILTSHIRE WONDER kicked off Flaming June in the best possible way when our first System bet obliged at 9/2 with a runaway success, following on from a ‘Wonder’ week which ended with at least four successful System bets.
The Epsom Derby selection was never at the races, horses don’t come from last place to win in the straight and I was at a total loss whilst watching him storm into sixth place; what a waste of time!
Rawaasi BR – 3.00
a failure six times for veteran trainer Simon Crisford, is finally equipped with blinkers in the six-runner Maiden Stakes over an extended five furlongs of ‘good to soft’ Brighton this afternoon when Ross Coakley becomes the fifth different jockey to partner this one-time consistent, hitherto luckless Blue Point filly.
This represents an urgent mission, Rawaasi is owned by prolific breeder Shaikh Ahmed Al Maktoum and bred in the purple; it’s extremely important ‘winning brackets’ are achieved for the sake of a stud career.
A recent seasonal debut over six furlongs at Ayr would not have inspired Crisford and the trip must have cost a fortune; 3rd (of 6), and the lowest mark registered to date, obviously means the equipment is somewhat of a panic measure.
Presumably Rawaasi will improve a few pounds fitness-wise but even in this extremely shallow dash we couldn’t advise readers to bet unless odds of at least 2/1 or better become available.
Twice-raced Mutamaani, an unlucky short-head loser at the same Scottish course twelve days ago, is the only conceivable danger to Rawaasi, clear best-in based on several efforts last year and advantaged 5lbs with the fillies’ allowance.
Knowing what is at stake adds spice to what will be an intriguing frenetic event.
Half an hour earlier course and distance winner
Broxi BR – 2.30
and regular partner apprentice Elle-May Croot look a solid combination for a desperate Classified Stakes over seven furlongs.
Elle is down to 5lbs allowance, which equates to at least two lengths, and shrewd trainer Ivan Furtado will be expecting recent Chepstow close third Broxi to get back on the winning trail. Pointless discussing the rest this is simply a gilt-edged opportunity.
An obligatory Windsor ‘Monday-Nighter’ includes a compelling twelve-runner Fillies’ Novice Stakes over six furlongs; perhaps top-rated Richard Hannon-trained, last time beaten favourite (seven months ago!),
Bourgeoisie WD – 6.15
will be ready and willing.
