French Selections Sunday 30th

R1 SAINT-CLOUD [L-H]
C1 – PRIX AMBER RAMA – 1400m (a7f) – TURF – Class 2 Race – Flat – EUR € 34,000

1. SUPIDO – Cost €72,000 as a yearling, this half-brother to Group winner Zonza showed undeniable promise when winning on debut over 1400m at Strasbourg on 13 June. Open to any amount of progress

2. ANGEAL – This Wootton Bassett filly out of a Group winner cost more than €100,000 as a yearling and she justified market support to make a winning debut over 1200m at this venue on 20 May. Would’ve come on since

3. NUIT DE L’HOMME – Finished 2nd in consecutive starts, over 1000m and 1200m, but disappointed (beaten more than seven lengths) when only 5th of 9 over 1350m at Lyon-Parilly on 1 June. Needs to redeem himself

4. IMPARABLE – Confirmed the promise of her debut 4th by making the expected improvement to win her next/start at Le Mans over 1100m on 15 May. A well-bred filly out of a Group II winner, she should have more to offer

5. MISTYSEA – Didn’t go unnoticed when an encouraging 5th on debut at Chantilly over 1100m on 16 June. Ought to improve with that experience under the belt

Summary: ANGEAL (2) led from start to finish when making a winning debut at this venue over 1200m – found plenty under pressure. On that evidence, and with the benefit of that experience, she can only improve over this extended trip so it should pay to follow her progress. Antoine Griezmann-owned SUPIDO (1) was also a winner on debut, over this distance, and would’ve only improved in the interim, so could fight for victory. Well-bred IMPARABLE (4), another last-start winner, will make life difficult for those rivals. MISTYSEA (5) completes the shortlist.

SELECTIONS
ANGEAL (2) – SUPIDO (1) – IMPARABLE (4) – MISTYSEA (5)
C2 – PRIX GENERAL DE SAINT-DIDIER – TROPHEE STUDIO HARCOURT – 3100m (a2m) – TURF – Class 3 Race – Flat – EUR € 18,000

1. SCREEN SHOT – Supplemented for this race after finishing an improved/encouraging 4th in a 2400m Parislongchamp handicap on 13 June. Not taken lightly

2. ESPOIR DE LA MONE – Consistent stayer for the most part but needs to bounce back from a disappointing 8th in a handicap at ParisLongchamp over 2800m on 6 June. Eased 0,5kg in the weights/ratings

3. DSCHINGIS SPECTRE – Won a 2650m conditions race at Chateaubriant earlier this month on his comeback from a 13-month absence. Disappointed (7th) over 2400m at Saint-Cloud on 21 June but cannot be hastily condemned

4. JOUR POLAIRE – Won a Listed race over hurdles at Auteuil last year and made a winning reappearance at Le Mans (over 3200m) on 15 May when reverting to the flat on his comeback from a 6-month absence. Keep safe

5. YORK TOWN – Bounced back from a disappointing 3000m handicap display (13th) at Fontainebleau in April to finish an improved 3rd in a 2650m conditions race at Chateaubriant on 3 June off his current mark. Outsider

6. LOR BLANC – Versatile veteran with sound references (victories) in staying races on both surfaces. Wasn’t disgraced when 6th in a 2500m handicap at this venue on 6 May – dark horse

7. NAGANO – Narrowly beaten in a 2800m Group III at Goodwood in August 2021 and, in his only subsequent outing, finished 11th in the 2400m Duke of Edinburgh Stakes Class 2 handicap at Ascot in June last year. Florent Guy is a notable jockey engagement on his belated reappearance

8. STILYKER – Returned from a three-year absence to make a winning reappearance in his first start on French soil at Niort in a 2250m conditions race on 9 June. Has more to do but is dangerous to discount

9. PRINCESSE SCARLET – Veteran mare with sound references over marathon distances on both surfaces, albeit at a lower level. Maintaining form/consistency but will find this is together – 4th over 3200m at Nort-sur-Erdre on 2 June

Summary: Sparingly raced NAGANO (7) placed at Group III level in England during his three-year-old campaign but has had his issues (health/soundness) since. Now under the care of Jérôme Reynier, he is worth a speculative vote on his reappearance with Florent Guy a notable jockey engagement. DSCHINGIS SPECTER (3) and SCREEN SHOT (1) are likely to expose any chinks in the selection’s armour. JOUR POLAIRE (4), a winner of a Listed race over hurdles, isn’t underestimated and could make his presence felt too.

SELECTIONS

C3 – PRIX LE PARISIEN (PRIX DES COTEAUX DE LA SEINE) – 1400m (a7f) – TURF – Class 2 Divided Handicap – Flat – EUR € 53,000

1. WHISPERING DREAM – Placed (3rd) in an 1100m Listed race at the start of the year and finished an excellent 2nd on handicap debut in the benchmark race (1300m Quinte+ at ParisLongchamp on 6 June). Candidate for success

2. EMPATHIC – Performed well in competitive conditions races earlier this year – the latest (3rd) at Fontainebleau over 1200m on 15 March. One to note on his reappearance

3. ETEL DU NINIAN – Won a Quinté+ handicap for females on 20 May but was unable to confirm that form/improvement when only 9th in a 1500m Quinte+ handicap at  Saint-Cloud on 11 June. For another day

4. OPALUS ROAD – Consistent Quinté+ performer, never worse than 4th in 5 appearances at this level. Finished 3rd in a similar contest over 1600m at Saint-Cloud on 4 June. Keep safe

5. ROYAL SHAKE – Finished 2nd in his first Quinté+ appearance at ParisLongchamp over 1400m in April. Cannot be condemned for his disappointing 8th in the reference race (1300m Quinte+) at that venue on 6 June – can make amends

6. OMICRONE – Last-start winner of the Prix de l’Ile de la Cité, a 1300m Quinte handicap at ParisLongchamp on 6 June. Ought to remain competitive under a penalty

7. LOUBEISIEN – Consistent for the most part with sound references off a much higher mark but has looked a shadow of his former self recently – finished 6th in a 1400m conditions race at Compiegne on 31 May. Outsider

8. TOIJK – Won a Quinté+ at the end of last year but has been unable to reach those heights since – finished 2nd in a 1400m claimer at Fontainebleau on 30 April. Others preferred

9. PEACEFUL SEA – Lighty raced filly who finished a well-beaten 14th on her handicap/Quinte+ debut at Saint-Cloud over 1500m on 11 June.  Others preferred

10. QUARTZ DU HOULEY – Won a Quinté+ on this track last year but has been out of sorts this term, soundly beaten in 3 of 4 starts at this level in 2024 – the latest (10th) in a 1600m Quinte+ at Saint-Cloud on 4 June

11. LEOPARDUCCIO – Won a 1400m Quinté+ handicap on PSF in January and returned from a 5-month absence to finish 8th in a 1600m Quinte+ at Saint-Cloud on 4 June. Can do better

12. ALVA – Has sound references in this category and recently bounced back to form with an improved/encouraging 3rd in a 1500m Quinte+ at Saint-Cloud on 11 June. Not taken lightly

13. CAMELOT SONG – Didn’t go unnoticed when finishing 7th in a 1500m Quinte+ handicap at  Saint-Cloud on 11 June. Dark horse

14. JUGANDO – Consistent performer who won at Toulouse over 1400m in April before proving his competitiveness off this mark (under a 4kg penalty) by finishing 4th in a 1600m handicap at Angers on 21 May. Dark horse

15. TIMES BOULEVARD – Caught the eye when running on well after securing a clear passage to finish 3rd in the benchmark race over 1300m in a Quinte+ handicap at ParisLongchamp on 6 June. Has obvious claims with Maxime Guyon aboard

16. CHANEL GOLD – Won a handicap on 28 April but has struggled since, finishing unplaced in all 2 subsequent starts – finished 10th on both occasions, the latest (10th) in a 1300m Quinte+ handicap at  ParisLongchamp on 6 June

Summary: ROYAL SHAKE (5) caught the eye when 2nd on his Quinte+ debut over this distance at ParisLongchamp and, on the evidence of that performance, is good value to bounce back from a disappointing 8th in a similar contest last time over 1300m. He ought to fight for victory, if reproducing his penultimate effort, with TIMES BOULEVARD (15), who finished an encouraging 3rd (ahead of the selection) in their recent Quinte+ meeting on 6 June. WHISPERING DREAM (1) was 2nd in that race and, although a ‘rookie’ in the handicaps, is likely to play another leading role. OPALUS ROAD (4) has demonstrated incredible consistency at this level and can be expected to acquit himself competitively, along with last-start winner (of the reference race) OMICRONE (6). Of the remainder, LEOPARDUCCIO (11) and ALVA (12) make the most appeal.

SELECTIONS

C4 – GRAND PRIX DE SAINT-CLOUD – 2400m (a1m1/2) – TURF – Gr1 Race – Flat – EUR € 400,000

1. ZARIR – Finished 2nd in the Group I Prix Ganay, ahead of FEED THE FLAME (2), and warmed up for this Group I contest with a last-start 3rd in a 2000m Group III at ParisLongchamp on 9 June. The longer trip will suit

2. FEED THE FLAME – High-class colt with proven Group I references, including a last-start 3rd in the Group I Coronation Cup over 2400m at Epsom on 31 May. Candidate for success

3. OUTBOX – Made a winning reappearance following an 8-month absence in the 2400m Group II Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket on 3 May. Would’ve benefitted from that comeback outing, so is dangerous to discount

4. IRESINE – Two-time Group I winner, rested after finishing 9th in the Group I Japan Cup in November until making a winning reappearance in a 2400m Listed race at Lyon-Parilly on 18 May. Fitter now, winning chance

5. DUBAI HONOUR – Proven, well-traveled Group performer with references at the highest level on the international stage. Caught the eye when 3rd on his return to France in the 2400m Group II Grand Prix de Chantilly (2 June)

6. SEVENNA’S KNIGHT – High-class stayer who drops in trip after consecutive victories in the 3000m Group III Prix de Barbeville (28 April) and Group II Prix Vicomtesse Vigier over 3100m (26 May) at ParisLongchamp. Not discounted

7. POINT LONSDALE – This full-brother to Broome, winner of this race in 2021, showed his form and well-being when winning the Group III Ormonde Stakes over 2700m at Chester on 9 May. Not taken lightly

Summary: Rested after finishing 9th in the Japan Cup (Group I) last November, high-class IRESINE (4) showed his class and well-being with an authoritative Listed victory on his reappearance last month, albeit against lesser opposition. He should, however, have tightened up with the benefit of that outing and is preferred to Group I Prix Gany 3rd ZARIR (1), who will appreciate stretching out to this distance. FEED THE FLAME (2) returns to French soil after finishing 3rd in the Group I Coronation Cup at Epsom and cannot be underestimated either, while POINT LONSDALE (7) is bidding to emulate the feat of his full-brother Broome, who won this race for Ballydoyle in 2021. A cracking contest!

7. GOLDEN BELLE – Won on the sole run at Saint-Cloud on June 4th over 2400m in a maiden race. Ought to be involved with normal progress from that success

Summary: BABAKOOL (5) is the Grandson of the champion race mare Goldikova and won nicely over 2000m last time at Compiegne. He can improve from that success and looks like the one to beat. PAY TO LEARN (1) could be the one to keep the selection honest after a win last time at Lyon Parilly on June 1st over 2400m. CREATIF (6) and GOLDEN BELLE (7) scored on their debut at Saint-Cloud over 2400m and can only make progress from those wins. They can not be discounted.

7. ROSE JAIPUR – Won her last two races, the latter a Listed race on June 9th over 2000m. More needed against the colts and geldings but can be on the premises

Summary: BRIGHT PICTURE (5) ran a good race last time when upped in grade to Group 3 Class at Parislongchamp in mid-April. He was beaten less than a length that day and is given the marginal vote ahead of HAMAVI (6) who won nicely in a Listed race last time over 2000m on June 9th at Parislongchamp. WOOTTON VERNI (2) is also getting better with race experience and scored in a Group 3 at Saint-Cloud over 2100m on May 6th when last seen. ROSE JAIPUR (7) looks best of the remainder.

Summary: HARTWOOD MAN (16) was a decent third last time at Saint-Cloud in early June in a Class 3 handicap and is at the right end of the handicap to be competitive. KING HARTWOOD (14) will not make things easy for his rivals after a confidence-boosting win when he was around a length ahead of the selection when winning the Saint-Cloud race. On more favoured weights today the latter can be able to reverse the form. ALCANOR (2) and ATOME (12) are both live candidates for the each-way backers to look at.

1. LORD – Has not been seen out since faulting in a 2175m Vincennes Class D early-December. Is yet to realise his potential but has had the winter to come on and should not be underestimated

2. LORA SCOTIA – Got straight down to business on 26 May, first time out, winning a 3025m Class G at Neuillé-Pont-Pierre. Chavatte yard in top form and the double would be no surprise

3. LILAS DAXEL – Repeated her debut performance on 2 June when second of 11 in a 2750m Elbeuf Class G. Is not about to strike gold but has every chance of finishing on the podium

4. LYX OF CAMARO – Qualified nicely last November and confirmed when winning a 2000m Rambouillet Class F 2 weeks ago on career debut. On a hard surface this time and will be competitive for a repeat

5. L’EXCELLENT – Pleasant 2nd of 11 in a 2900m Bourigny Class G 8 days ago but has yet to live up to his name and is not about to shake things up

7. LIPTON DU NOYER – Modest type that came 7th of 9 in a 2275m Nantes Class D early-May, but needs to find significantly more

8. LEADER BLACK – Turf winner on debut before finishing 5th of 7 in a 2700m Graignes Class E a month back. Is not about to spring a surprise but should be able to hold his own

9. L’ESPOIR DES BAUX – Won on debut mid-April but disappointing since, most recently sanctioned in a 2675m Class E at Le Mont-Saint-Michel on Wednesday, and others easier to back

Summary: Convincing winner on her racecourse debut late last month, LORA SCOTIA (2) will have come on for the run and looks eminently capable of doubling her money. LYX OF CAMARO (4) left a fine impression at Rambouillet, also first time out, and can bring the fight to her is he takes to the new conditions. Runner-up in her first two, LILAS DAXEL (3) is fitted with 4 pads this time and will be competitive for a place in the frame, as will the returning LORD (1) if sufficiently fit.

6. KALINE DES RACQUES – Steps up in class after trotting 3rd of 12 finishers in a 2825m Bernay claimer a month back, and is quite simply out of her depth

7. KOTKITA GIRL – Made up for her Pontivy sanction with 3rd of 9 in a 2850m Maure-de-Bretagne  Class F on 4 June. Races barefoot for the first time and will be no pushover if there’s a good pace

8. KALIAH DES LANDES – No slouch on a good day, and has left-handed references, but finished last but one in a 2950m Vichy Class D 2 weeks ago and is unlikely to generate much interest

9. KELLE BLEUE – Produced 2 excellent performances before coming in a one-paced 7th of 10 finishers in a 2600m Meslay-du-Maine Class E mid-May. Has had time to get her house in order and will be expected to redeem herself

10. KALINKA MOYA – Sanctioned in a 2700m Vincennes Class D on 18 June, but is plainly in good condition and, on better behaviour, can finish close

11. KOURANE LA CHENAIE – 4th of 8 in a 2850m Laval monté Class E late last month. Is confirmed under harness but others still prepared

12. KEA QUICK – Endured a tough trip to finish 7th of 11 in a 2200m Caen Class E 2 weeks ago and has little to no chance of causing an upset

Summary: KARINA JOSSELYN (4) may not have been seen out since late-February but she is a filly with bags of potential, showed over the winter that she can perform well after a layoff, and should be capable of lifting a race of this nature. Excepting her recent Meslay performance, KELLE BLEUE (9) has otherwise been excellent with pads fitted and will be expected to make amends. KOTKITA GIRL (7) can also prove a handful, but she showed her form earlier in the month and, first time barefoot, looks a player. KALINKA MOYA (10) is never far from faulting either, but she reassured in Paris 12 days ago and, with front pads fitted this time, should not be far off the mark.

C3 – PRIX DU PMU “LE DISQUE BLEU” – BONNEVAL – 2800m (a2m) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 19,500

1. KEFIR DE SASSY – Won 2 on the trot before faulting, when never threatening, in a 2700m Vire Class E on 12 June but, if focused, can make amends and get a look-in

2. KISS ME CARNOIS – Showed potential last year before losing his way. Came in last but one, on re-entry, in a 2400m Amiens Class E a month ago and is not about to spring a surprise

3. KAPRICE D’EVAILLES – It took 13 runs but he lost his maiden status in a 2700m Graignes Class F on 13 June and if still on the boil, can again figure prominently

4. KOLOSSE RHODES – Blows hot and cold but gave a fine account a fortnight ago when winning a 2550m Reims Class F. Is barefoot again and, even though stepping up in category, must still be afforded respect

5. KASIMODO DREAM – In fine shape since returning to competition mid-April, latterly 4th of 10 in a 2700m Class F at Le Croisé-Laroche, and with Nivard at the helm, will not go down easily

6. KOITRO DE QUERY – Last of 11 in a 2050m Cabourg Class F on 1 June and would have better prospects at a lower level

7. KRONOS DES LANDES – Yet to get off the mark but has pleased twice of late, most recently 3rd, a place behind KINGDOM DE CHENU (10), in a 2975m Jallais Class F 2 weeks ago. Not a leading contender but worth retaining all the same

8. KLUEDO DE L’AVRE – Honest colt that came good in a 2650m Laon Class F 3 weeks ago. Takes on some better horses this time and chances limited

9. KESARO FIRST – Unremarkable sort that finished last of 12 in a 2575m Agen-Le Passage Class F 8 days ago. Shoes on this time but others still preferred

10. KINGDOM DE CHENU – Reliability not his strong suit but has nothing to prove at this level and his recent 2nd of 16 in a 2975m Jallais Class F 2 weeks ago, augurs well for his chances

11. KATUDI – Went into his break on a good note but sanctioned in a 2800m Rambouillet Class F mid-month and will have few friends

12. KAYAK – 6th of 10 finishers in a 2600m Meslay-du-Maine Class E mid-May on 2nd start back. Sports a new configuration and, if fully-fit, can open his 2024 account

Summary: Well-engaged at the limit of earnings, KAYAK (12) has 2 races under his belt, is competitively-shod for his first objective of the new season, and can make this his own if he takes to Chartres conditions. Léo Balu will still want to be wary of recent Laon winner KASIMODO DREAM (5) who is first time barefoot with Franck Nivard reining, and KINGDOM DE CHENU (10) who reassured at Jallais mid-month. KAPRICE D’EVAILLES (3) finally lost his maiden tag at Graignes recently and makes his Chartres debut with a decent chance of picking up a place cheque.

C4 – PRIX RACE AND CARE – 2825m (a2m) – Class E Amateur Riders Race – Harness – EUR € 20,000

1. JAMIN DE BRY – Needed a couple of return runs following an 18 months’ hiatus. Trotted 5th of 15 in a 2700m Class F at Le Croisé-Laroche a fortnight back and can make a big splash if he takes to Chartres profile

2. JAMBALAYA – Has acquitted himself decently since returning from his break, most recently 5th of 16 in a 2800m Bernay Class E last weekend. Shod as he was at Amiens but others still preferred

3. JURA – Won a 2975m Jallais Class F 2 weeks ago, on his first start since the spell, and must be taken seriously

4. JAKARTA MADRIK – Honest, consistent mare that came 5th of 10 finishers in a 2500m Class E at Savigny-sur-Braye 3 weeks ago. Barefoot this time but still has more to find

5. JOLIE ARCTIC – A write-off in 2024, latterly 10th of 12 in a 2750m Ecommoy Class F last weekend, and can be ruled out

6. JOY FOR DANCING – Useful sort that left a very good impression on re-entry 2 weeks ago when 5th of 10 in a 2700m Segré Class E. Will have progressed since and finishing in the first 3 would be no surprise

7. JOKER DES LANDES – Mixes the good with the less good but caught the eye when 4th of 10 finishers in a 2625m Cherbourg Class E 2 weeks ago, and barefoot again, will not be far from the action

8. JERRY DE BELLANDE – Reverts to racing with hind shoes off after coming last but one in a 2400m Châteaubriant Class F on 19 May. Is better than his formcard would imply and looks a respectable first-5 prospect

9. JOMOLUNGMA – Finished last of 9 in a 2850m Vincennes claimer 12 days ago and has no possible chance

10. JACKPOT DES BORDES – Sprang a small surprise when 4th of 16 in a 2800m Bernay Class E last weekend but a repeat seems most improbable

11. JACK DU PONT – Won at Sablé-sur-Sarthe before finishing an honourable 6th of 15 in a 2850m Laval Class E on 13 June. Drops in category and should be good enough to win this

Summary: Something of an open affair, but it is nevertheless difficult to ignore JMB’s good JACK DU PONT (11) who imposed at Sablé-sur-Sarthe before biting off more than he could chew at Laval. He drops back in category and while it is hard to give away distance at Chartres, he still looks marginally better than recent Marseille-Vivaux winner JAMIN DE BRY (1) who is considerably more performant than his latest effort would suggest. JOY FOR DANCING (6) will have come on for her good comeback run and, barefoot this time, can make the frame. JOKER DES LANDES (7) took on some good horses at Cherbourg recently, held his own, and is not one to be underestimated.

C5 – PRIX DU PMU-TABAC DU CENTRE – TOURY – 2800m (a2m) – Class E Race – Mounted – EUR € 23,000

1. JOYEUSE DU METZ – 2nd over course and distance 3 months ago but has since come off the boil, latterly sanctioned in a 2450m Caen Class E last Monday, and can be ruled out

2. JOLICOEUR D’ATHOS – Sanctioned early in a 2275m Nantes Class E earlier this month, but has otherwise been in fine shape and will not be far from the action if he can keep his mind on the game

3. JOSHUA PEJI – Won 4 of the 5 races in which he was not sanctioned, 3 under the saddle, latterly outclassing the opposition on comeback in a 2275m Nantes Class E on 3 June and, on good behaviour, can repeat

4. JACKPOT DE NILREM – Excellent this time last year before losing his way. Finished last of 14 in a 2825m Vire harness Class E on 12 June and with shoes off will have nothing to bring to the party

5. JAIDA DE MAY – 2nd of 11 in a 1800m harness Class F at La Capelle mid-month. Unlikely to repeat though and others preferred

6. JEFS DES CHAMPS – Pleasant 4th of 10 finishers in a 2950m Vichy Class E on 12 June. Just front shoes off this time and, while not a priority, he will be fully fit by now and can get a look-in

7. JEDEO DES VAUX – Lost his action, when well-backed, in a 2750m Class E at La Capelle a fortnight ago. Is useful when focused though and Fabien Gence can trot his way into the money if his charge stays in stride from one end of the race to the other

8. JAGUAR DU RIB – Tricky trotter that was sanctioned in last 2, most recently a 2750m Cabourg Class E at the start of the month. Races barefoot for first time in a year but still looks to have too much to do

9. JOSCAN KERDREUX – Disappointing on the whole this term, latterly 9th of 11 in a 2850m Laval harness Class E on 13 June. Sanctioned in both monté starts to date and is not going to influence the outcome

10. JOYAU DE SOYORA – Capable but complicated trotter that won a 2500m Class E at Savigny-sur-Braye 3 weeks ago. Fitted with front pads this time and will be expected to make up for his early-June Chartres sanction

11. JALNO MADRIK – Excellent in 3 of last 4 starts, 2nd under the saddle at Lyon-Parilly before winning a 2650m Avignon harness Class E a fortnight back and Damien Bonne would do well to keep looking over his shoulder

12. JOULE DE LA FYE – Dependability not his strong suit but left a very good impression when 2nd to JOYAU DE SOYORA (10) in a 2500m Class E at Savigny-sur-Braye 3 weeks ago. Not a priority but still looks a respectable first-5 chance

Summary: It looks like the ‘all-or-nothing’ term was coined for the capricious JOSHUA PEJI (3) but he pulled of quite the feat on his first start since December and is throughly capable of doubling his money, provided Damien Bonne manages to keep him trotting. Solid 2nd at Parilly last month, JALNO MADRIK (11) went on to impose under harness 2 weeks ago and sporting a new configuration, looks the main threat. JOLICOEUR D’ATHOS (2) has already won twice this year and can trot his way onto the podium if he stays in stride. Sanctioned here before going on to impose 3 weeks later, JOYAU DE SOYORA (10) sports front pads this time and will be competitive for a spot in the frame.

C6 – PRIX DU CAFE DU COMMERCE – AUNEAU – 2825m (a2m) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 26,000

1. IDEALE D’ARCEY – Modest mare that came 9th of 16 in a 2450m Caen Class E 3 weeks ago. Has been off the boil for some time and will have nothing to give

2. ICE HAUFOR – Complicated mare that reassured earlier this month when 2nd of 18 in a 2850m Class E at Maure-de-Bretagne. Damien Bonne in the sulky this time but still no more than a minor place chance

3. IDEAL DE REVAT – Nicely-positioned on the front line after having reassured when 2nd of 11 finishers in a 2700m Graignes Class F early-May. Will be fresh and has every chance of opening his 2024 account

4. IDEAL DES BRIERES – Returns to the harness code after finishing a distant last of 5 in a 2850m Laval monté Class G earlier this month. Barefoot this time but has yet to prove himself at Chartres and others preferred

5. IMAGE DE RABET – 11th of 13 in a 2825m Bernay Class F last Sunday. Shoes back on and can be ruled out

6. IMOW ROLAU – In the frame in 2 at Laon before trotting 14th of 16 in a 2750m Class E at La Capelle on 21 June. Is new to the venue but can make the first 5 if he takes to the new profile

7. ISLA – Has not been seen out since finishing last of 12 in a 2150m Enghien Class E last October, and will need the run

8. ISOLACCIO – Finished close here 2 weeks ago but oddly out of sorts when 8th of 11 in a 2700m Erbray Class F 3 weeks ago, and can be passed over

9. IRINA DU GLAY – Last of 7, when being conditioned, in a 2625m Cherbourg Class E a fortnight ago, following a lengthy absence. Is proven here and will be dangerous if Antoine Lhérété keeps her trotting

10. IDEE SMART – Good, consistent mare that finished 4th of 16 in a 2850m Laval amateurs Class F on 5 June. Debuts at the venue with Franck Nivard reining and has the wherewithal to pick up some prizemoney

11. IGOR VICKING – 5th of 16 in a 2750m Class E at La Capelle 9 days ago. Has looked sharper lately, has references under these conditions, and even with an extra 25m to travel, should not be far off the mark

12. IL PRESIDENTE – 5th of 14 in a 2950m Vichy Class E early-June. Left a good impression here mid-April and, in spite of the handicap, will be expected to give this a good go

13. IGRISONI – 3rd of 13 in a 2525m Class E at Les Andelys 2 weeks ago. Is clearly better when unshod but on class alone, he looks a decent prospect

14. IRMYLA DE SOMMAIRE – Kicked the year off victoriously but has since come off the boil, latterly sanctioned in a 2850m Laval Class D early-May. Races with shoes this time and will pose no danger

Summary: Barring his Méral blip, IDEAL DE REVAT (3) has been in excellent shape this term, showed a liking for these conditions 3 months ago, and from the front row, should be able to wrap this up. IRINA DU GLAY (9) should be fully fit after 2 return runs and, with application, will have a lot to offer. Seldom far off the mark when focused, IGRISONI (13) races shod this time and even from the back line can play a prominent role. IL PRESIDENTE (12) seldom gets his nose in front but consistently gives his best and, penalty or not, he will still have his chances of finishing in the frame.

1. HYPERION DU BOCAGE – 6th of 8 finishers in a 2850m Mauquenchy Class G 3 weeks ago after having placed over course and distance. Will be expected to bounce back and challenge HAMISH (9) for the glory

2. FIMOKO STAR – A veritable write-off since winning at Carentan last July. Came last of 7 finishers in a 2600m Class H at Châlons-en-Champagne and will have nothing to contribute

3. GUOPECK DE VIVOIN – Pleased twice at Cabourg in December before coming unstuck. Sanctioned in a Class F over track and trip earlier this month and although not a contender, can still play a small part

4. HIVER D’AUTHISE – Seldom seen under the saddle but has ample talent and can put to bed his recent sanction in a 2100m Vincennes harness Class F. Shoes on but is still very much in the picture

5. FILOPOTO PENA – Has done little of note in either code this term, most recently 8th of 13 in a 2700m Segré harness Class F and is not going to be springing any surprises

6. FANAK DU BOCAGE – Unexceptional in both codes this season. Finished last of 11, behind HAMISH (9), in a 2800m Pontchâteau Class E on 6 June and can be dismissed

7. GRAND TRIO LUDOIS – Unseen since coming 6th of 8 finishers in a 3125m Angers Class F last January. Seldom disappoints when barefoot and can figure prominently at the business end of the race

8. FLAMBEUR DU DIGEON – Has never finished closer than 3rd under the saddle, and most recently faulted in a 2850m Vincennes harness Class D. Gets a chance to race shod this time and looks capable of securing himself a slice of the pie

9. HAMISH – Made short work of a 2700m Vincennes Class E 12 days ago. In less-exalted company this time and it would be a surprise if he didn’t impose

10. GRINGO SAVA – Has 4 races in him this term, latterly sanctioned in a 2700m Vincennes Class E 12 days ago and, even sporting a new configuration, chances limited

11. FRODON THONIC – Last of 8 in a 2200m Vichy Class E  10 days ago and, in this company, has no realistic chance

Summary: Perhaps not always the most faithful of trotters, there is however no question about the talent HAMISH (9) has displayed this spring and a repeat of his recent Vincennes performance would see him double up. He will still face opposition from HYPERION DU BOCAGE (1) who confirmed here recently and who will be expected to put things right, and HIVER D’AUTHISE (4) who has solid monté references. GRAND TRIO LUDOIS (7) is very useful under the saddle and even though unraced for 5 months, he goes barefoot for the occasion and means business.

1. HERMES DU LEARD – Back at the top of his game, most recently runner-up in a 2650m Marseille-Vivaux Class F on 1 June. Adores Chartres and is in with a realistic shout of trotting off with the silverware

2. HIPPY DE LA COUDRE – Trotted 2nd at Alençon before coming a disappointing 6th of 17 in a 2825m Durtal Class F 2 weeks ago, but returns to a hard surface with a decent chance of finishing in the mix.

3. FIDELO BEJI – Pleasant lately, most recently 5th of 15 in a 2900m Dozulé Class F mid-month but in this field, and with shoes on, will struggle to make his mark

4. FLASH BACK DU NORD – 6th of 10 finishers in a 2100m Vincennes amateurs Class G on 11 June and appears to have nothing going for him here

5. HELIA DE LAXA – Occasionally a handful but has been flying lately, latterly 3rd of 18 in a 2800m Pontchâteau Class F in early-June. Is proven at Chartres and with Franck Nivard in the wagon, will be assured every chance. Claim

6. GALATA – Not entirely without merit but has not been convincing lately, most recently last of 11 in a 3500m Class F at Savigny-sur-Braye 3 weeks ago, and can be confidently disregarded

7. FERVENTE – Pulled-up in a 2825m Durtal Class F a fortnight ago. Has otherwise been in good shape and looks competitive for a place in first 5

8. GETEHI DU NOYER – Produced a trio of good runs before coming 10th of 16 in a 2100m Vincennes Class E 9 days ago. Should not be too hastily judged and still looks capable of picking up some prizemoney

9. FLORALYSE D’AUTHOU – Disappointing on the whole since returning to competition. 7th of 14 in a 2350m Angers Class E 3 weeks ago and must first re-establish her credentials

10. GLAMOIRE – Gave a fine account at La Roche-Posay early this month before faulting in a 2800m Rambouillet Class E, when sent out favourite, a fortnight later. Just front shoes off this time but will still need to find more

11. HURIEL LUDOIS – Good dual-discipline trotter that came 3rd of 9 in a 2950m Vichy Class F on 13 May. Has freshness on his side and even though shod this time and starting on the back line, he still has the wherewithal to play a prominent role

Summary: Very hard to knock when focused, and twice a winner in 3 starts here, HERMES DU LEARD (1) has gone close in his last 3 and deserves to be rewarded with victory. Romain Derieux will nevertheless be keeping a watchful eye on the reinvigorated HELIA DE LAXA (5) who left a good impression at Pontchâteau and who has already won at the venue. With 3 races under his belt and hind shoes off for first time this year, HIPPY DE LA COUDRE (2) has the capacity to play an important part. HURIEL LUDOIS (11) needs little introduction and even though shod this time, he is still good enough to challenge for a spot on the podium.

IBISCUS MAN (10) was not disgraced last time out and is barefoot and ready to do a lot better this time. HARRY CARISAIE (12) likes the grass and is barefoot again and should contest the finish.
