made a very promising debut and can get off the mark at the second time of asking in the Margaret Jefferson Memorial Restricted Maiden Stakes at Redcar.
Unraced at two, the James Garfield gelding was completely unfancied for his debut at Haydock, being sent off a 28-1 chance.
That is unusual given how much strength in depth his trainer Karl Burke has this season, and he ran a race full of promise.
He had plenty to do having been at the rear of the field but made up lots of ground to be beaten just a length.
The form has not been tested as yet, but all of the first three had the benefit of previous experience and the second had already won a race.
The second that day was Ed Bethell’s Coppull Hall Lane and she reappears in the following Sky Bet Go-Racing-In-Yorkshire Summer Festival Handicap.
She has been awarded a rating of 83, so if that is accurate it really points to the fact Flight Radar should take the beating, but Bethell’s runner should also be backed.
This daughter of Mayson was second at Redcar on debut before winning at Beverley in fine style.
Under a penalty last time out, she looked like making all the running until being caught right on the line.
Gregorianna re – 5.02
caught the eye, albeit beaten a long way, when third last time out at Newcastle.
Julie Camacho’s charge now goes handicapping off a lowly mark of 55 in the Start Your Racing TV Free Trial Handicap and there is surely some mileage in that.
She was 200-1 when ridden by an apprentice but made eyecatching headway before the winner ultimately pulled clear.
She will be a different kettle of fish now sent handicapping.
At Stratford, Paul Nicholls’
Matterhorn st – 3.25
arrives in the John Murtagh 60th Birthday Handicap Chase on a four-timer.
The six-year-old is obviously shooting up the weights, his first win came off 128 and he is now on 137, but he won by 12 lengths last time out over this same course and distance.
Nicholls has strong claims of a double with
Brave Knight st – 4.00
in the Ladies Day Winners Novices’ Hurdle.
Rated 84 on the Flat for Sir Mark Prescott, he looked in a different league to his rivals on his hurdling debut and well up to defying a penalty.
The step up in trip looks sure to suit
Jerrash na 4.45
in the Mark And Vicky Golden Wedding Celebration Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase at Newton Abbot.
Trained by Peter and Michael Bowen, Jerrash has won his last two over trips around two and a half miles.
Prior to that he had been tried over three and a half but that was too far, however, this sharp three miles should suit as he has been strongest at the finish in his last two races, while briefly looking in trouble in both.
Stamina won him the day, so three miles should be no trouble.
