Luther on the case for Charlie Fellowes at Salisbury

Charlie Fellowes is backing Luther to crack the case when he heads to Salisbury for an intriguing British Stallion Studs EBF Stonehenge Stakes today.
The TV detective who shares the the same name as the son of Frankel was never one to shirk a challenge, and Fellowes’ youngster will have to be from a similar mould as he steps up to Listed level following his taking course victory on debut in June.
The exciting colt cost 250,000 guineas as a yearling and has always excited his hander.
Fellowes said: “It’s an interesting race and he’s a funny horse. He’s not the biggest, but he’s as tough as they come.
“He wants to win, not many horses have that where their ears go flat back, but he’s got it. He worked great the other day – it was as good of a piece of work as I’ve seen him do.
“He’s a very good horse and I like him. I wouldn’t be pitching him in at this level if I didn’t think he was good.”
There may be only three runners in the one-mile event, but it is not short on quality as Andrew Balding and Qatar Racing team up with New Century 10 years after winning the race with Elm Park and Aidan O’Brien sends over Gowran scorer The Parthenon to be partnered by Ryan Moore.
However, the Bedford Lodge handler believes he has a smart operator on his hands and is relishing the chance to put his potential to the test as he steps up to a mile.
“Obviously, it’s a small field, but it’s a pretty good field,” continued Fellowes.
“Aidan brings one over who looks decent and New Century is the proven one and he’s done it. I don’t think the Ascot race (Pat Eddery Stakes) was run to suit him either so it’s a proper test
“But I believe my fella is good enough and we will find out. He’s run well at the course, and I think the step up to a mile will suit.
“He’s very straightforward and by Frankel out of a mare that stayed 10 furlongs, so I’m not concerned about the mile at all and I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do.”
There is also Listed action at the Wiltshire track in the British Stallion Studs EBF Upavon Fillies’ Stakes where John and Thady Gosden’s Rainbows Edge bids to maintain her unbeaten record in the colours of the King and Queen.
She is joined in the 10-furlong event by the likes of Balding’s Sea Of Roses and Charlie Johnston’s Height Of Fashion Stakes winner Francophone who drops back in class having struggled at the highest level in the Pretty Polly Stakes.
