1. TREASURE ISLE – Inconsistent but capable colt. Finished a reassuring 4th in a 1250m Curragh Group III on 21 July before winning a 1000m Listed race at that venue on 17 August. Supplemented

2. AESTERIUS – Speedy sort with solid form references/credentials, including a 5th in the Group II Norfolk Stakes and last-start 2nd in the Group III Molecomb Stakes over 1000m at Goodwood on 31 July. WIll play a leading role

3. KAADI – Runner-up to ENGLEMERE (6) in a 1000m Listed race at Newbury on 16 August. Has a legitimate money chance

4. LA SAMANA – Consistent filly with sound references/form credentials, including 2 wins in as many starts over 1000m. Improved in first-time headgear (retained here) to win a 1000m Listed race  at Deauville on 3 August

5. MISS LAMAI – Finished 2nd in a 1000m Listed race at York and 4th in the Group II Queen Mary Stakes over 1000m at Royal Ascot. Latest (6th) in a 1200m Group II at York on 22 August

6. ENGLEMERE – Has only once finished worse than 2nd in 6 starts, finishing 2nd twice and winning 3 times – including her last start in a 1000m Listed race at Newbury on 16 August

Summary: Speedy AESTERIUS (2) sets a good standard on the strength and consistency of his form in 1000m Group races and looks good value to reconnect with success in this Group III opening event. Top-rated TREASURE ISLE (1) was supplemented for this after winning a Listed race last time so also features high on the shortlist. LA SAMANA (4), a 1000m specialist, and last-start Listed winner ENGLEMERE (6) are legitimate contenders for a podium berth. Good race!

C2 – DARLEY PRIX JOUBERT – 2800m (a2m) – TURF – Listed Race – Flat – EUR € 55,000

1. LUNA ROCK – Consistent performer in conditions races up to 2400m. Finished 6th in a 2000m Listed race at Vichy on 18 July but could fare better over this extended trip

2. GOLDEN BELLE – Unbeaten and unexposed filly. Confirmed the promise of her debut win at Saint-Cloud by following up at Dieppe on 23 July – both races over 2400m

3. EARENDEL – Finished 5th of 7 runners in a 2000m Listed race at ParisLongchamp on 9 June and improved stepping up to 2400m to finish 2nd at Dieppe on 23 July. Remains open to further improvement

4. PANTHERA – Improved stepped up to 2400m to open her account in her first start on French soil at Clairefontaine on 2 August. Has more to do at this level but could make further progress over this extended distance

5. MOTHER NATURE – Well-bred, maturing Justify filly closely related to champions Minding and Tuesday. Runner-up in a Cork Group III over 2400m on 16 August and should have more to offer stretching out to this distance

6. LILY HART – Game frontrunner with sound references/form credentials, including a last-start 3rd in a 2400m Group III at Cork on 16 August. Keep safe

7. LE COMBAT CONTINUE – Consistent performer with solid form references/credentials. Has finished on the podium in all 6 outings this year, winning twice and finishing 2nd three times – including in her last start, a 2500m Group III at Deauville (11 August)

8. LADY DORIS – Wasn’t beaten far when finishing 5th of 8 in a 2800m Listed race at Leopardstown on 22 August. Dark horse

9. FAIRY GLEN – Progressive filly. Stayed on to finish 3rd in a 2400m Listed race at Newmarket on 3 August and could have more to give over the extra 400m

10. MAY IT BE – Didn’t go unnoticed when staying on to finish 5th of 9 runners in a 2400m Listed race at Vichy on 15 July. Not taken lightly

11. COMIC BOOK – Consistent filly with sound form references, including a last start 4th in a 2500m Group III at Deauville on 11 August

Summary: Maturing, well-bred MOTHER NATURE (5) has the profile to thrive over these staying/marathon distances. She finished ahead of stable companion LILY HART (6) in a 2400m Group III at Cork last time out and should confirm her superiority over this extended trip, which is likely to unlock further improvement from the daughter of Justify. Progressive FAIRY GLEN (9), judged on the strength and consistency of her form, is another candidate for success. She confirmed her competitiveness at this level by finishing 3rd in a 2400m Listed race at Newmarket last month. LE COMBAT CONTINUE (7) is another improving sort that shouldn’t be underestimated.

SELECTIONS
MOTHER NATURE (5) – LILY HART (6) – FAIRY GLEN (9) – LE COMBAT CONTINUE (7)
C3 – PRIX DE LA REINE MARGUERITE – 2400m (a1m1/2) – TURF – Class 2 Divided Handicap – Flat – EUR € 53,000

1. KLIFF BERE – Won a 2300m Quinté+ at Angers on a sticky track in May and confirmed his competitiveness under a resultant 4kg penalty by finishing 3rd over 2400m in a Class 2 conditions race at Saint-Cloud on 21 June. Hasn’t been seen since

2. CASSIUS – Showed promise last year but has disappointed in 2024 – dropped in the weights/ratings as a result (5kg). Soundly beaten in back-to-back Quinté+ races recently, the latest (15th) on PSF over 1900m at Deauville on 28 July

3. DIRE LA VERITE – Promising as a three-year-old but has failed to confirm/fulfill his potential in 2024. Runner-up in a 2000m Class 3 conditions race at Aix-les-Bains on 14 July and has been dropped 2kg for his handicap/Quinté+ debut

4. GET SET – Won a 2000m Quinté+ at La Teste in July but finished unplaced (10th) under a resultant 3kg penalty in a 2000m Quinté at Deauville on 10 August. Could fare better with Maxime Guyon in the irons now

5. MOONWALK STEP – Well-performed veteran with sound references at this level although was well-beaten (7th) when returning from a 4-month absence over 2300m at Pompadour on 18 August. Others preferred

6. SANTURIN – Has finished a respectable 7th in consecutive outings at this level – the latest over 2500m at Deauville on 1 August. More of a place chance than a winning one off his current mark

7. MYKISS – Won a course-and-distance Quinté+ with great authority on 13 June and has remained consistent/competitive in 3 subsequent outings under a resultant 3kg penalty. Showed his form by finishing over 2400m at Vittel on 12 August

8. CIRCEO – A model of consistency with sound references/form credentials, which includes 2 appearances at this level. Will be equipped with headgear for the first time after finishing 6th in a 2500m Quinté  at Deauville on 1 August – beware

9. ROBINIE – Has finished 4th in consecutive outings at this level – the latest over 2500m at Deauville on 1 August – confirming her competitiveness in this grade off her current mark. Not taken lightly

10. PROLETARIUS – Unplaced in consecutive outings (8th in both) on French soil before sparking improvement to finish 4th over 2400m at Clairefontaine on 16 August. Dangerous to discount off this mark in his first handicap on French soil

11. PENTAOUR – Won a 2200m conditions race at Dieppe on 29 May and followed up with another victory under a 1kg penalty over 2400m on this course in mid-June. Hasn’t been seen since and carries a further 2,5kg penalty on his reappearance

12. I’M A BELIEVER – Rediscovered his form and consistency dropped in the ratings to his current mark – confirmed as much by finishing 2nd in a Compiègne claimer in July and 4th in a 2000m Quinté+ at Deauville on 10 August. Candidate for success

13. UTAMARO – Consistent performer with proven references in this category, albeit over further (staying/marathon distances) and on softer ground than he’ll encounter here. Didn’t go unnoticed when 6th in a 2800m Quinté+ at Vichy on 18 July

14. COMBERMERE – Honest veteran who has appreciated racing beyond 2000m recently, winning back-to-back starts over 2400m and 2500m – the latest over that longer trip at Deauville in a handicap on 1 August. Carries a 3kg penalty for that victory

15. MATAURI GOLD – Well-beaten 13th in a 2400m Quinté+ at Compiègne before finishing unplaced (7th) again in a 2200m Quinté+ for females at Dieppe on 23 July. For another day

16. STORM CITY – Consistent, lightly raced hard-knocker with sound references/form credentials – including a 4th in the Handicap de la Fête Nationale, a Quinté over 1800m at Chantilly on 14 July. Dangerous under bottom weight

Summary: MYKISS (7) won a course-and-distance Quinté+ on 13 June in good style and, even off his current mark (2,5kg higher), looks good value to make a winning return to the handicaps with Mickaël Barzalona a notable jockey engagement. I’M A BELIEVER (12) has regained his form and momentum recently, and he could fight for victory on the evidence of his last-start 4th in a 2000m Quinté+ at Deauville. Both ROBINIE (9), who has proven her competitiveness at this level off her current mark, and versatile STORM CITY (16), especially if judged on his 4th in a Quinté+ over 1800m at Chantilly in July, also have the means to play leading roles. Consistent CIRCEO (8), the enigmatic GET SET (4), and CASSIUS (2), who has dropped to a dangerous mark in the ratings, are others to consider.

SELECTIONS

C4 – PRIX DE LIANCOURT – 2100m (a1m1/4) – TURF – Listed Race – Flat – EUR € 55,000

1. SELEMIAH – Progressive last-start winner. Finished 3rd in consecutive outings over 2400m and 2nd over 2200m before opening her account with a wide-margin victory over 2000m at Deauville on 13 August – more to come

2. SOME SKYE – Consistent filly (7-start) with sound references/form credentials, albeit without success. Finished 4th in an Arqana Series (Class 1 sales race) over 2000m at Deauville on 15 August – not taken lightly

3. ROCK’N SWING – Unplaced in both attempts at Group I level but got her career back on track with an improved/encouraging 3rd in a 2000m Group III event at Deauville on 28 July. Candidate for success

4. GRAND STARS – Rapidly improving filly. Finished 4th on debut over 2100m at Chantilly in April but has made considerable progress after a 3-month break to win both subsequent outings, the latest over 2000m at La Teste on 6 August

5. SHIFFRIN – Promising filly as a two-year-old but has lost her way this term, finishing unplaced in all 3 appearances – the latest (9th) in a 2000m Listed race at Deauville on 11 August

6. HIGHER LEAVES – Wasn’t beaten far when finishing 8th of 12 runners in Group II Ribblesdale Stakes over 2400m at Ascot on 20 June. Dark horse

7. BUBBLE GUM – Has blotted her copybook in consecutive outings at the highest level although didn’t go unnoticed when finishing 6th of 14 in the Group I Prix de Diane over this distance at Chantilly on 16 June. Keep safe

8. HAPPY SAXON – Improving, unexposed filly with untapped potential. Made a winning seasonal reappearance over 2000m in May at Chantilly and confirmed her undeniable promise by finishing 2nd on this course in a 2000m Listed race on 9 June

9. WITH STARS – Consistent performer in conditions races up to 1800m but hasn’t looked as effective in either outing, including her latest (4th at Deauville on 6 August), over 2000m. Improvement needed going 2100m now

Summary: ROCK’N SWING (3) was unsuccessful in back-to-back starts in Group I races but showed she retains considerable ability by finishing 3rd in a Group III event last time. She will be hard to beat with a repeat of that performance in this Listed contest. Improving SELEMIAH (1) and class-dropper BUBBLE GUM (7) seem best equipped to challenge the selection for race honours, with HAPPY SAXON (8) and SOME SKYE (2) others with podium aspirations.

C5 – PRIX DE LA COCHERE – FONDS EUROPEEN DE L’ELEVAGE – 1600m (a1m) – TURF – Listed Race – Flat – EUR € 52,000

1. ATAKAMA – Her only win was last year but she was not disgraced when fourth last time out in a handicap at Deauville over 1600m on 4 August. Could earn some more money

2. SIRONA – Has not been at her best of late and was 6th last time out in a GR.3. at Ascot over 1600m on 27 July. Capable of better and has a winning chance

3. MOUNTAIN SONG – Very consistent and was third in a Listed race at Berlin last time out over 1800m on 11 August. Can contest the finish again

4. ZVAROSHKA – Very consistent of late and was runner-up for the fourth time in a row last time out in a handicap at  Deauville over this distance on 4 August. Be right there at the finish once again

5. BEAUTIFUL ASPEN – Continues to improve and was a winner last time out in a handicap at Deauville over 1900m on 28 July. Could be the surprise package of the race

6. SECRETIVE – Unreliable this year but was runner-up last time out in a Listed race at Deauville over this distance on 7 July. Has a place chance

7. LOVE RUSH – Did not show her best when 9th last time out in a Listed race at La Teste-de-Buch over this distance on 21 July. Capable of better and can bounce back to score

8. STOP THE CAVALRY – A winner of two of her four starts but was 7th last time out in a GR.2. at Goodwood over 1400m on 31 July. Deserves some respect in this line-up

Summary: LOVE RUSH (7) failed to fire last time in a Listed race which probably came too soon for her – just 7 days after finishing 3rd in a Group III event at Chantilly. On the evidence of her previous start and the strength of that form, she should make amends and bounce back to winning ways. SIRONA (2) has the undeniable means to fight for victory but continues to blow hot and cold. She can’t be taken lightly. Consistent MOUNTAIN SONG (3), hard-to-win-with ZVAROSHKA (4), who has finished 2nd in 4 consecutive outings, and the enigmatic SECRETIVE (6) are competitive for the minor places.

1. SHAMARKAND – Hot form, won at Vichy over 2400m last time in Listed class and is confidently selected to follow up despite the rise in trip. Leading chance

2. KALET – Won on debut, holding form since and finished 2nd over 3000m at Deauville in a Listed field on the 3rd of August. A must for everything

3. CHARTWELL – Others should be way too strong in this field for the win but can certainly run a fair race. Outside place chance

4. COLUMBUS – Boasts a recent win at Deauville over 3000m in a Listed Race and should go very close here. Strong each way chance

5. HAMAVI – Showed them a clean pair of heels when winning in Listed class at Clairefontaine over 2400m on the 27th of July. Big chance

Summary: SHAMARKAND (1) for the Aga Khan is clearly a quality horse in the making. He has won his last two impressively and the most recent being at Listed level. Strong first pick on his first attempt over this trip. HAMAVI (5) has already notched up two Listed victories in only five starts. His last win came at Clairefontaine, and he is, also, clearly progressive and special. COLUMBUS (4) boasts good juvenile form and looks set for bigger and better things in the future. He is a huge runner. KALET (2) can never be dismissed from any bets.

FLATTEN THE CURVE (1) can be expected to do way better than he has been in his last few starts and rates a bright chance. RODAINAH (3) ran a huge race three starts back and based on that, can feature at the finish. His last run when 10th at Dieppe was too bad to be true. CHEEK TO CHEEK (2) has a first four chance.

SELECTIONS

10. ROYAL SOPRANO – Excellent effort when 2nd over 2200m at Clairefontaine in a competitive Handicap and can go one more. Great chance

11. LEXOVIENNE – Is hard to fancy on current form and as a result would be a shock winner. Prefer others. Pass by. No

13. CARNIVAL QUEEN – Fresh off a solid win at Dieppe over 2200m and it would come as no surprise if she were to follow up. Respect and include

Summary: BIRDSONG (8) has placed four times from five starts and looks cherry ripe for the win. Her last run was at Clairefontaine in a solid Handicap. Warm first choice. C1 – PRIX PIERRE ET JEAN BARRAL – 2200m (a1m1/2) – Class G Amateur Drivers Race – Harness – EUR € 6,000

1. GABARRET DAIRPET – Won in the professional ranks at Aix before coming 6th of 8 in a 2150m Cagnes amateurs Class G a fortnight ago. Is better than that though and racing barefoot will only work to his advantage

2. HARDI FOSSAVIE – Has not put a foot wrong in the amateur category this year, latterly 4th to IMOKO DEUX (6) in a 2650m Hyères amateurs Class G 3 weeks ago. Nicely-placed behind the car and looks a decent first-5 pick

3. GALOPIN FONTAINE – Put in quite the finish to run 4th of 11 finishers in a 2850m Hyères amateurs Class G on 12 July. Comes here fresh, has been handed an excellent draw, and will have claims on the trophy

4. HERMES FLAM – Sanctioned in 5 of last 6, latterly a 3000m Marseille-Borély Class F on Thursday, and backs up with limited aspiration

5. HARCADY – A model of consistency until faulting in a 3000m Sault Class F conditioner 3 weeks ago. Hind shoes off this time and from the 5-spot is not to be underestimated

6. IMOKO DEUX – Failed to continue his fine run of form when 6th of 10 in a 2925m Cagnes Class E 2.5 weeks ago but, barefoot as he was at Hyères, is unlikely to disappoint this time

7. IPIPIP DES SABLES – 5th of 14 in a 2400m Class F at Beaumont-de-Lomagne a week ago. Has won 3 of his last 4 amateur contests and should not be too far from the action

8. GAPACHE DE HOUELLE – Has looked a different horse lately, most recently winning a 2725m amateurs Class H at Miramont-de-Guyenne 2.5 weeks ago. Not ideally-placed but is still in with a shout of picking up a thin slice of the pie

9. ILOMBA DU GUESCLIN – Unlucky not to have made it 2 on the trot after finishing runner-up to IMOKO DEUX (6) in a 2650m Hyères amateurs Class G 3 weeks ago, but can turn the tables if Kassandra Fresneau assures her mare’s initial strides

10. IDAHODARCHE – Still in conditioning-mode after coming last of 7 in a 2600m Cavaillon amateurs Class G last weekend. No danger

11. HELLO RUNNER – Sanctioned in 6 of last 7, most recently a 2600m Cavaillon amateurs Class G last weekend, and can expect to have few takers

12. HARDI PETIT – 6th of 8 in a 3025m Sault amateurs Class H 3 weeks ago. On back line and will have little to contribute

13. HERA DE LA VALLEE – Drops in category after finishing last but one in a 2425m Jullianges Class H a week ago. Poorly-drawn though, is shod this time, and can be ruled out

Summary: A fine campaigner in the amateur division, ILOMBA DU GUESCLIN (9) put on a super show at Hyères recently despite faulting early and if his driver gets her off on the right foot, the race is hers for the taking. IMOKO DEUX (6) won that day and, shod to preference, should again figure prominently, but may first have to see off the better-positioned GALOPIN FONTAINE (3) who will be reined by Gisèle Ambrogio who boasts an excellent record in this race. GABARRET DAIRPET (1) races barefoot, as she did when winning at Aix late-July, and gifted the inside line can give this a good go.

C2 – PRIX RENE LAFFONT – 2200m (a1m1/2) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 20,000

1. L’ECU DALAMEDA – Changes direction for first time after trotting 5th behind LAUTARET (5) in a 2150m Cagnes Class F and will be no easy touch if he turns

2. LONG BEACH – 2nd of 10 in a 2150m Cagnes Class F mid-July. Is plainly starting to make good on her promise and, if focused, can give LAUTARET (5) a run for his money

3. LOVELY LA CHENAIE – Would have finished closer than 5th of 7 in a 2150m Cagnes Class E 2 weeks ago with different tactics. Form is not in question and, from the 3-spot, can make amends

4. LHASSA DE VANDEL – Produced a brace of decent runs in July but 7th of 10, behind LONG BEACH (2), in a 2150m Cagnes Class F mid-August. Has yet to shine racing clockwise and is not about to start

5. LAUTARET – Progressive sort that showed grit to finish 3rd of 6 in a 2150m Cagnes Class F a fortnight ago. Nicely-placed in front and can finally get that maiden monkey off his back

6. LADY STRYCK – Respectable but was still found wanting when 4th of 6 in a 2850m Hyères Class D a month ago, and even with just front pads fitted is unlikely to influence the outcome

7. LOVE D’URZY – Steps up in category after trotting 2nd of 9 in a 2425m Jullianges Class F last weekend. Stéphane Cingland engaged for the occasion and can play a prominent role if he can keep his charge trotting

8. L’ARTISTE DERONFIN – Last of 7 in a 2425m Jullianges Class E last weekend. Has not been handed the best of draws and chances slim

9. LADY DU FOREZ – Capricious filly that was sanctioned in a 2425m Jullianges Class E last Sunday and is not easy to trust

10. LOUSTIC DU MIDI – Encouraged at Hyères before being disqualified in a 2925m Cagnes Class F on 3 August and is not about to spring any surprises

11. LAVINIA DES ILES – Made up for her debut sanction when 3rd of 5 in a 2650m Hyères Class E on 12 August. Somewhat short on experience but looks a decent future prospect and can make first 5

Summary: In the frame in 3 of his last 4 starts, LAUTARET (5) races right-handed this time and is well-placed to lose her maiden status. Steve Stefano will nevertheless be keeping a keen eye on LONG BEACH (2) who has started to come into herself, and the dependable and well-positioned LOVELY LA CHENAIE (3) who is arguably better racing clockwise. L’ECU DALAMEDA (1) is proven in this category and should logically put his recent clinker behind him.

C3 – PRIX D’ARLES – 2200m (a1m1/2) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 20,000

1. KOSAK DU FER – Opened his account, in style, [at 17th time of asking] in a 2725m Class F at Grenade-sur-Garonne 2.5 weeks ago, and steps up in category with a reasonable chance of getting in on the action

2. KANELLE DU NOYER – 3rd of 7 in a 2150m Cagnes Class E 2 weeks ago, only to be placed last. Reliability not her strong suit but is plainly in shape and from the 2-spot can make her presence felt

3. KHAZAR DES CORVEES – Went close at Hyères before coming last of 5 to KENT CLARK (4) in a 2925m Cagnes Class E. Can play a leading role though if Laurent Gout keeps him focused

4. KENT CLARK – Excellent in 2 before faulting, when clearly full of running, in a 2150m Cagnes Class E a fortnight ago. Ideally-positioned in front and can wrap this up if Nicolas Ensch keeps him trotting

5. KAISER DE KACY – Returned to the winners’ enclosure in a 2700m Aix-les-Bains Class F in late-July. Seldom disappoints when focused and should not be far off the mark

6. KINGSLEY – Returns to racing barefoot after coming 3rd of 9 in a 2650m Divonne-les-Bains Class E mid-August but in this company will have too much to do

7. KENJY DE LA VALLEE – Has not been seen out since coming 4th of 12 in a 2800m Vichy Class E on 12 May. Competitively-shod for comeback and can get straight down to business. Chance

8. KING FOR TWO – Considerably better sort than his 11th of 13 in a 3125m Montier-en-Der Class F 2 weeks ago would imply. Stéphane Cingland reining this time and should logically show marked improvement

9. KIGA DE VANDEL – Last of 6, on return to competition, in a 2700m Cagnes Class E on 13 August. Has done nothing noteworthy for some time and can be passed over

10. KAWESAQUEL – Made up for his Cagnes sanction when 2nd of 10 in a 2600m Cavaillon Class F a week ago. Steps up in category but has earned the right to race here and, barefoot for the occasion, will be no pushover

11. KARAMEL DU PIC – Sprang a 19/1 surprise when 2nd of 9 in a 2850m Hyères Class F 3 weeks ago, but a repeat seems most improbable

12. KELLY MARY – Unseen since faulting in a 2525m Cavaillon Class E mid-June. Is confirmed here but stays shod and will need the run

13. KISS OF THE KING – Showed early promise but has been complicated since, latterly 7th of 9 in a 2850m Hyères Class F 3 weeks ago, and is unlikely to shake things up

14. KAPEO – Consistently gives his best, most recently 3rd, behind KARAMEL DU PIC (11), in a 2850m Hyères Class F 3 weeks ago. Shoes back on though and others preferred

15. KEPLER D’AUVILLIER – Not without merit but sanctioned in 4 of last 5, latterly a 2925m Cagnes Class E 11 days ago, and will have few friends

Summary: As tricky as he may be, KENT CLARK (4) has nothing to prove in this kind of company, and while unconfirmed racing clockwise, he nevertheless has the wherewithal to win a race of this nature. Progressing with every run, KENJY DE LA VALLEE (7) pleased in a better category last time out and despite not having raced since May, he looks a more serious candidate on his Salon debut. KHAZAR DES CORVEES (3) was less performant last time but the addition of front pads will serve him well. Back on a hard surface after imposing on turf, KAISER DE KACY (5) has a lot going for him here.

1. JERSEY BLEUE – 9th of 14 in a 2050m Class F at Divonne-les-Bains on 20 August. Has struggled this term and must first re-establish her credentials

2. JUNON DE BEYLEV – Decent 5th of 11 in 2400m Beaumont-de-Lomagne Class F last weekend. Has a lot more going for her this time and will be no easy touch

3. JET SET AIMEF – Got back to victorious ways in a 2700m Class F at Aix-les-Bains early last month. Races barefoot again and, ideally-placed behind the car, can confirm

4. JADE PIERJI – Placed at Mauquenchy before coming 5th of 14 in a 2050m Divonne-les-Bains Class F on 20 August. Has decent speed though and breaking from the 4-spot will do her prospects no harm

5. JORDANA – Takes a dip in category after coming 5th of 8 in a 2700m Cagnes Class E 11 days ago. Decently-placed in front and even though shod for the occasion, can still play a part

6. JUDELLE JIHAIME – Makes her first appearance since faulting in a 2800m Vichy Class D 14 months ago. Has buckets of ability and, if fully-fit, can get straight back down to business

7. JACEE DE BUSSIERES – Steps back up in category after coming 2nd of 11 in a 2025m Saint-Galmier Class G last weekend. Unlikely to win this but can get in on the action if Kévin Devienne keeps her out of trouble

8. JUVANIA – 4th of 6, behind JOLIE SCALA (12), in a 2175m Sault Class H when preparing for this 3 weeks ago. Is proven here, goes barefoot for the occasion, and is very easy to like for a place on the podium

9. JELINA BENOIT – Disappointing since returning to competition, latterly sanctioned in a 2675m monté Class F at Divonne-les-Bains a fortnight ago. Barefoot with David Békaert reining this time and can get a look-in

10. JELOURA – 6th of 9 in a 2600m Cavaillon Class F a week ago. Has placed just once in 8 this year and has no possible chance

11. JAVA VENUS – Disappointing on the whole since late last year, most recently sanctioned on last weekend’s re-entry in a 2025m Saint-Galmier Class G, and can be written off

12. JOLIE SCALA – Beat JUVANIA (8) when 3rd of 6 in a 2175m Sault Class H 3 weeks ago but, at this level, is unlikely to confirm

13. JOLIE BOES – Last but one, behind JORDANA (5), in a 2700m Cagnes Class E on 21 August and will again have nothing to offer

Summary: Winless since her 2022 debut, JET SET AIMEF (3) ended all that with victory at Aix early last month and, breaking from the 3-spot, can double her money. Nicolas Mourot will still want to be wary of the talented JUDELLE JIHAIME (6) who has shoes off for her long-awaited return to the track, and the barefoot JUVANIA (8) who is good enough to defy the draw. Barefoot and entrusted to Nicolas Ensch, JUNON DE BEYLEV (2) must be considered a decent place chance.

1. JETSTAR DE VRIE – Should not be too hastily-judged for latest performance. Has nothing to prove in this category and, on good behaviour, will have his chances

2. JUPITER DE VANDEL – Sanctioned in a 2000m Class F at Aix-les-Bains late-July. Has solid category references when shod however and can trot his way into the frame

3. JOHN KILY – Made it 3 straight sanctions when faulting in a 2850m Class F at Bagnoles-de-l’Orne 2.5 weeks ago. Has bags of ability though, is well-positioned behind the car, and with application can wrap this up

4. JIVAGO FLASH – Left a good impression when 4th of 9 in a 2000m Aix-les-Bains Class F early last month. Has been handed an excellent draw and Kevyn Thonnerieux will be eager not to pass up such a good opportunity

5. JAZZ DU CHATELET – Got back in the game when 2nd of 9 in a 2600m Fleurance monté Class F 3 weeks ago and, if form transitions, will not be far off the mark

6. JAMES BOND DUEM – Has ability but sanctioned in last 3, latterly a 2650m Marseille-Vivaux Class E on 22 June. Comes here fresh and, with stride in check, can play a small role

7. JACKPOT DES THUYAS – Showed marked improvement when 4th of 7 finishers in a 2000m Aix-les-Bains Class E late-July. Sent out with modified shoeing and will have his chances if Nicolas Mourot successfully navigates the start

8. JERONIMO – Encouraged at Cagnes late-July before finishing last but one in a 2700m Cagnes Class F 2 weeks ago, and is unlikely to cause an upset

9. JARDIN DE MAHEY – 5th of 10 in a 2700m Aix-les-Bains Class F late-August. Has started to show improvement but has not done enough to be considered dangerous

10. JOE TEJY – 7th of 10 in a 2700m Cagnes Class F 2 weeks ago. Has been off the boil for past 12 months and can be disregarded

11. JUMPER – Hesitant at the start only to be sanctioned in a 2700m Cagnes Class F a fortnight ago, and the draw will only complicate matters

12. JEAN PIERRE – Last but one, behind JANOT DE TOUCHYVON (13), in a 2600m Cavaillon Class F a week ago. Races barefoot this time but others still preferred

13. JANOT DE TOUCHYVON – Sprang quite the surprise when 2nd of 9 in a 2600m Cavaillon Class F last weekend, but a repeat is highly improbable

Summary: Double-handed here, Stéphane Cingland will be best represented by the tricky but talented JOHN KILY (3) who debuts for his new handler. Stablemate JUPITER DE VANDEL (2) is as good shod as he is not and, with application, can play a key role, but he may first have to defer to JETSTAR DE VRIE (1) who is a tough nut to crack when barefoot and focused, and the widely-drawn JACKPOT DES THUYAS (7) who sports a fresh configuration for his Salon bow.

SELECTIONS

1. IDOLE DE LA ROUVRE – Last but one in a 2925m Cagnes Class E mid-August. Drops in category but still looks to have too much to do

2. HATOUT DE CONNEE – Complemented his amateurs 3rd with 2nd of 10 in a 2925m Cagnes Class G 11 days ago and will not be sent out at 37/1 this time around. Place prospect

3. IBAIA DE MAY – Has hardly put a foot wrong since the spring, most recently 2nd of 7 in a 2925m Cagnes Class E on 13 August. Takes on her elders this time but still has a lot to contribute

4. IMPACT SUR LATERRE – 4th behind IBAIA DE MAY (3) in a 2925m Cagnes Class E mid-July. Is unlikely to win a race of this nature but has the capacity to pick up a place cheque

5. IGNITE MATCH – Sanctioned in a 2000m Class F at Aix-les-Bains on 9 August, just 5 days after winning there. Would be preferred a level down however and chances limited

6. HELYSEE WILD – Last of 12 in a 2450m Villeréal Class E late-July. Races barefoot this time but still looks outclassed

7. ICI PARIS – Sanctioned when being conditioned for this in a 2200m Lannemezan Class F last Wednesday. Goes barefoot this time and will be no soft touch if Nicolas Ensch keeps her trotting

8. INFANTE DE TOUES – 6th of 7 finishers behind IBAIA DE MAY (3) in a 2925m Cagnes Class E on 13 August and will have few friends in the markets

9. HORUS DES DUNES – Has produced a mixed bag this term, most recently sanctioned in a 2475m Francheville Class F 2.5 weeks ago, but is better than most here and the engagement of a top driver may make all the difference. Claim

10. IMUVRINI – 5th of 13 in a 2600m Cavaillon Class G last weekend. Enjoys a good entry and looks main threat to HORUS DES DUNES (9)

Summary: Hard to fault over these longer trips, HORUS DES DUNES (9) is significantly better than recent numbers would imply and, with David Békaert in the bike, can open his 2024 account. He will still come under pressure from the well-engaged IMUVRINI (10) who is clearly close to her race, and the reinvigorated HATOUT DE CONNEE (2) who will be hard to catch if he gets to make the pace. As versatile as they come, IBAIA DE MAY (3) has been knocking at the door and, even though fitted with pads this time, she still looks a serious proposition.

1. HORIZON DE LARRE – Sanctioned when being conditioned in a 3000m Sault Class H 3 weeks ago. Shoes on and no threat

2. HOTMAIL – Has done absolutely nothing of note this year, latterly last but one in a 2600m Cavaillon Class G last weekend, and can be confidently disregarded

3. HELTER SKELTER – Won 2 in a row before being disqualified in a 2625m Villeneuve-sur-Lot amateurs Class H 2 weeks ago. Form is not in doubt however and should put things right if his driver keeps him out of trouble

4. HAPPY VENUS – Sanctioned in 5 of last 6, most recently a 2650m Saint-Galmier Class F last weekend, and has no realistic chance

5. HOUSTON JUSTICE – Off the boil for past 12 months, latterly last of 9 in a 2000m Aix-les-Bains amateurs Class H early-August and, barefoot or not, can be passed over

6. HAWAI DE SYVA – Pulled off the 3-timer when securing a 2625m amateurs Class H at Cazaubon-Barbotan 6 days ago. Has a lot going for him here and can expect significant support

7. HANDY MAN – 3rd of 8 in a 3000m Sault Class H 3 weeks ago. One of the more faithful elements here and is unlikely to disappoint

8. HERMES DU DON – Out of sorts when 9th of 12 in a 2850m Hyères Class G a month back. Has already been successful here and will be expected to set the record straight

9. HADAYA VISAIS – Sprang something of a surprise when 3rd of 8 in a 2850m Hyères Class F 3 weeks ago. Unlikely to spring a surprise but can still enjoy a first-5 payday

Summary: After pulling off the hat-trick last Monday, HAWAI DE SYVA (6) steps up in category but, barefoot from the front row, is not incapable of securing the 4-timer. Similarly on cracking form, Michel Hanquier will be eager to set the record straight with HELTER SKELTER (3) who was not the most fortunate last time out. Twice a winner at Cagnes before flopping at Hyères, HERMES DU DON (8) incurs the penalty but has previously defied the handicap here and will be no soft touch.

1. IN THE AIR DELO – Returns to racing barefoot and drops in category after finishing last but one in a 2925m Cagnes Class D late-July. Has freshness on his side and, with shoes off, can take the challenge to his elders

2. FURIOSO SMILING – 6th of 8 in a 3000m Sault Class H 3 weeks ago. Would be preferred in the claiming category and can be ruled out

3. FAMILY FIRST – Last but one in a 2700m Cagnes Class F 2.5 weeks ago. Has done nothing but disappoint recently but goes barefoot and could pleasantly surprise

4. GIZMOGOLD – Reassuring 2nd of 11 in a 2150m Cagnes Class F last weekend. Is new to Salon but in current form it is easy to make a case

5. FORMIDABLE VOYAGE – 3rd in a 2150m Cagnes claimer a fortnight ago before being sanctioned, when racing notably well, in a 2150m Cagnes Class F last weekend and, with form maintained and stride in check, can get in on the action

6. FILLMORE – Honest sort that failed to live up to expectations when 5th of 6 in a 2700m Divonne-les-Bains claimer mid-July and, in this company, will need to find more

7. HAYASTAN DE ROSAN – Drops down the ladder after trotting 5th of 8 in a 2925m Cagnes Class E a fortnight ago. Has nothing to prove in this category and can make this her own if François Tugend assures her initial strides

Summary: Wonderfully-engaged at the limit of earnings, the delicate but able HAYASTAN DE ROSAN (7) has been showing her form at a better level and, confirmed here, can bring home the bacon. That said, IN THE AIR DELO (1) will be at peak fitness by now and races barefoot with a decent chance of securing his first objective of the summer. GIZMOGOLD (4) blows hot and cold but will have his chances if he replicates his recent Cagnes performance.

6. LILI STAR – Impressed with a smart win on debut in a Condition race at Saint-Malo over 2500m on 6 August. Can follow up

Summary: LILI STAR (6) was a very wide-margin winner of her debut and can follow up. LUKALEO (1) will not go down easily, though as he is unbeaten and has looked promising in both wins. LADIVA SMART (3) is improving and was not disgraced last time out so should be right there at the finish once again. LINSTANT (4) won on debut and deserves respect for that win.

9. SAINT LOUIS BLUES – Did not show his best when runner-up last time out in a handicap hurdle at Auteuil over 4300m on 27 April. Very consistent before that and could improve trying the larger obstacles

Summary: JIBRIL DES MOTTES (8) is in very good form and can complete the treble after winning nicely last month. BALADIN DE MESC (3) is very consistent and looks likely to be involved with the finish yet again. FANTASTIC SIVOLA (2) is unreliable but does have a winning chance. Summary: LIVOLO BELLO (3) won well on the grass on debut and will get every opportunity to follow up and score again. LOVE IS ALL (8) continues to improve and was a solid winner last time out so should be a threat once again. Summary: KRACBOUM CIERGUES (4)has been very consistent without winning so far but could prefer this shorter distance and gets the vote to score.
