Lead Artist is set to be rerouted to Doncaster’s Betfred Park Stakes after rain-softened ground scuppered his participation in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood.
John and Thady Gosden’s Dubawi colt created a big impression when opening his account at York in May and while he suffered a short-priced reverse at Newmarket’s July meeting, he showed his true colours with a Group Three success at Goodwood in the Thoroughbred Stakes.
The Juddmonte-owned three-year-old was due to return to the Sussex Downs before deteriorating conditions prompted his withdrawal and he could now step up to Group Two level at the St Leger Festival on September 14.
“We think he’ll head to Doncaster for the Park Stakes,” said Juddmonte’s European racing manager Barry Mahon.
“We learnt our lesson in Newmarket the time before on soft ground, so there was no point throwing the horse in on soft to heavy at Goodwood as we know he doesn’t like it.
“He’s in good form, so hopefully we’ll go to Doncaster with him.”
