French Selections Friday 13th

R1 VINCENNES [L-H]
C1 – PRIX OPHELIA – 2850m (a2m) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 59,000

1. IN EN VRIE – Missed out by little for 3rd in a 2150m Enghien Class E mid-August. Has yet to disappoint when barefoot and, even though stepping up in category, can get a look-in

2. INFERNA DE HOUELLE – Ran 2nd over 2700m here before winning a 3100m Vibraye Class F late-August. Benjamin Rochard reining this time and will be expected to play an active role

3. IRON DU GERS – Unlucky last of 11, after faulting, in a 2800m Bernay Class F 3 weeks ago. A veritable steamroller when barefoot and focused though and, plainly in form, will be competitive for victory

4. IGGYPOP D’HERFRAIE – Made up for his Dozulé blip when 4th of 11 in a 2800m Bernay Class F on 25 August. Has respectable Vincennes references and is thoroughly capable of making first 5

5. GHOST DES CHARRONS – Sanctioned in a 2675m Class B at  Divonne-les-Bains 3 weeks ago. A write-off for past 17 months and has no realistic chance

6. IVANKA DE JILME – Returns to racing barefoot after coming 2nd of 14 in a 2850m Feurs Class B 11 days ago and will not be available at 84/1 on this occasion

7. HULYSSE DIGEO – Ran 6th, a place behind HOLD UP DU SAPTEL (11), in a 2150m Enghien Class D a month ago. Is undeniably capable, is proven when shod, but others still easier to back this time

8. HASARD D’ERABLE – Impressive winner of a competitive 2750m Cabourg Class D on 23 August. Tends to go well at Vincennes and, even from the 2nd row, can make it 2 on the trot

9. INFANT PERRINE – Capable but lost his way this summer, most recently sanctioned in a 2800m Rambouillet Class D last Sunday, and can be confidently passed over

10. HISTOIRE PHILS – Has come close more than once this season but will need to make marked improvement on recent 6th to IVANKA DE JILME (6) in a 2850m Feurs Class B 11 days ago

11. HOLD UP DU SAPTEL – Did not enjoy the best of runs to come 5th of 12 in a 2150m Enghien Class D mid-August. Appreciates these conditions though and, in present condition, is very hard to ignore

12. GAULTHERIA – Faulted, on first start back, in a 3025m Montier-en-Der Class A on 18 August. Front shoes off, benefits from a good entry, and Eric Raffin will be loathe to let it slip by unrewarded

Summary: Back at the top of his game with 2 win in his last 3 starts, HASARD D’ERABLE (8) returns to a track he appreciates with every chance of repeating. David Thomain will nevertheless be keeping a keen eye on the better-placed IRON DU GERS (3) who would have finished close last time had he not faulted early, and HOLD UP DU SAPTEL (11) who has been hard to fault all year. INFERNA DE HOUELLE (2) has been excellent lately and from the front row, looks a serious proposition.

SELECTIONS
HASARD D’ERABLE (8) – IRON DU GERS (3) – HOLD UP DU SAPTEL (11) – INFERNA DE HOUELLE (2)
C2 – PRIX BAUCIS – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Class B Race – Mounted – EUR € 75,000

1. HIS DREAM DE CAHOT – Sprang a 25/1 surprise on 21 August when 3rd of 12 in a Class D over track and trip. Races first-time barefoot but others still preferred

2. HUGO OCCAGNES – Sanctioned early in a 2775m Craon Class D earlier in the month. Can trot but takes on too much this time around

3. BOLERO GAR – Has failed to make any impact since coming to France, latterly sanctioned at 115/1 in a 2175m Gr.2 here 10 days ago, and can be written off

4. FALCON D’ESPACE – Enjoying a decent run all season, most recently 4th, a place behind HAVE SEVEN (6), in a 2875m Enghien Class C late-July. Unlikely to spring a surprise but will have his supporters

5. HALFA – Serious mare with excellent course-and-distance credentials. Barefoot this time after coming 7th of 11 in a 2850m Class A conditioner here 3 weeks ago and can play a leading role

6. HAVE SEVEN – Returns to the monté discipline after finishing 8th of 14 when prepping for this in a harness Class C over track and trip last Saturday. Left a good impression at Enghien last time under the saddle and must be afforded respect

7. EMENCOURT D’AZIF – Reassuring 3rd of 14 in a 3025m Montier-en-Der harness Class A on 18 August. Has decent monté credentials but still not an obvious choice

8. GO OR NOT – Serious monté crusader but below-par 5th of 7 behind GOOD GIRL MARCEAUX (11) in a 2925m Cagnes harness Class B 3 weeks ago. Won over 2850m during the spring and must be worth retaining

9. HARMONISTA – Switches codes after trotting 5th of 13 in a harness Class C under these conditions on 21 August, and reverts to a previous formula with a small chance of getting a look-in

10. FRAGONARD DELO – 9th of 12 in a 2675m Class B at Divonne-les-Bains 3 weeks ago. Makes just 2nd monté appearance and has no possible chance

11. GOOD GIRL MARCEAUX – 11th of 14, when preparing for this, in a 2925m Cagnes harness Class B 3 weeks ago. Has nothing to prove under these conditions and, shod to preference, will be no easy touch

12. GALA D’URFIST – Got back in the game when 5th of 11 in a 2850m Class A here 3 weeks ago. Thrives over 2700m here and, if focused, can bring home the spoils

13. HURELLA – Back under the saddle after running 2nd, at 20/1, in a harness Gr.3 over course and distance on 24 August. Has solid monté references and, with the assistance of Eric Raffin, can return to winning ways

14. GOLD VOICE – Sanctioned in last 2, most recently a 2850m Class B, on comeback, here 2 weeks ago. Is a Gr.2 winner though and, with application, can play an active role

Summary: GALA D’URFIST (12) may not be the easiest of horses to handle but he boasts a superb record under these conditions, and his recently reassuring run bodes well for his prospects. Adrien Lamy will however be justifiably wary of HURELLA (13) who returns to the monté code after pleasantly surprising in a harness Gr.3 here late last month, and a barefoot HALFA (5) who has 3 conditioners under her belt following the spell. GOLD VOICE (14) enjoys a good entry and will not be far off the mark if she deigns to stay in stride.

SELECTIONS
GALA D’URFIST (12) – HURELLA (13) – HALFA (5) – GOLD VOICE (14)
C3 – PRIX LUCRETIA – 2100m (a1m1/4) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 40,000

1. KIRA BO FACE – Sanctioned over 2600m at Wolvega 3 weeks ago. Has ability but never far from faulting, however the engagement of the champion driver can change all that. Attention

2. KALINKA CASTELETS – Won here earlier in the summer but below-par since, latterly sanctioned quickly in a 2725m Cabourg Class E early last month. Handed a good draw but others still easier to back

3. KANAILLE DES ECUS – Faces first objective of the season after coming last of 6 on comeback in a 2925m Cagnes Class C mid-August and, if fully-fit, will not go down easily

4. KISS ME DU RUEL – Lost her action in a 2875m Enghien Class C early-August. Is plainly useful but too frequently sanctioned to warrant much support

5. KALINA PRINCESS – Won at Clairefontaine before coming 2nd of 10 in a 2850m Carentan Class D mid-August. Well-positioned on front line and will be expected to finish in the mix

6. KASSANDRA WIND – 5th of 9 finishers in a 2700m Class D here on 21 August. Has yet to make good on her 3yo promise but it is only a question of time

7. KOMMUNES DE PLAY – Placed twice here during the spring but coming 7th of 9 behind KASSANDRA WIND (6) here on 21 August will not cut the mustard

8. KASSIOPEE WIND – Easy winner at Cabourg before confirming in a Class D over track and trip 3 weeks ago. Plainly a progressive filly and can secure the hat-trick

9. KEY OF LOVE – Makes first appearance since faulting in a 2700m Class C here on 21 June. David Thomain at the helm but the draw will do them no favours

10. KIA DE GUELLE – Runner-up to KASSIOPEE WIND (8) in a Class D over course and distance 3 weeks ago. Has ground to make up but still represents a decent first-5 chance

11. KINDY DU VIVIER – 7th of 12 when preparing for this in a 2750m Cabourg Class F 2.5 weeks ago. Looks the sort that can do well at Vincennes and is not to be underestimated

12. KHALEESI D’ALESA – Has left her lean streak behind, most recently 2nd of 10 in a 2550m Cherbourg Class B 3.5 weeks ago. Has previously won here and, despite the draw, can still get a look-in

13. KATOUCHKA – Back in shape following a slow start to the summer, most recently 3rd of 13 in a 2750m Cabourg Class D 3 weeks ago, but faces a much stiffer test here

14. KNITULIA – 2nd of 8 in a 2150m Vichy Class D early-August. Has progressed well since the spring and although poorly-drawn, will be no pushover with Alexandre Abrivard back in the bike

15. KARMEN DE MONTCEAU – Last but one in a 2700m Class D here on 21 August and will again have nothing to offer

16. KARA DE PADD – 6th, a place behind KASSANDRA WIND (6), in a 2700m Class D here on 21 August, and can be confidently disregarded

Summary: KASSIOPEE WIND (8) has turned a corner since starting to race barefoot, made no bones about winning over course and distance last time out and, even drawn wide, is marginally preferable to the better-positioned KANAILLE DES ECUS (3) who is barefoot after her mid-August re-entry run. Although forced to start on the 2nd line, KINDY DU VIVIER (11) has never disappointed when unshod and makes her Vincennes debut with a good hand to play. KIRA BO FACE (1) has been entrusted to Eric Raffin for the first time and will figure prominently if he can keep her trotting.

C4 – PRIX ALGORAH – 2100m (a1m1/4) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 59,000

1. ALONE (SWE) – 6th of 12 in a 2750m Cabourg Class D 3 weeks ago. Has struggled since coming to France and can expect to have few friends

2. FISTON A PAPA – Surprise 3rd in a 2150m Enghien Class D late-July before faulting in a 2750m Ecommoy Class E last Sunday. Nicely-drawn but appears to have too much to do this time

3. HELIOS SOMOLLI – Kicked the season off well but below-par lately, most recently 7th of 15 in a 2750m Cabourg Class E on 9 August, and would be preferred on turf

4. FAVICI PASMARICK – Back to racing barefoot after coming 3rd of 14 in a 2950m Redon Class E conditioner 12 days ago. Imposed under these conditions earlier in the summer and, from the 4-spot, can give this a good go

5. GOLDORACK – 8th of 12 in a 2750m Cabourg Class D 3 weeks ago. Has done nothing noteworthy all year and can be confidently ruled out

6. HYPER FAST – 11th of 14 when being conditioned in a 2850m Feurs Class B 11 days ago. Has decent references over track and trip and should not be overlooked

7. GERSHWIN DE CHENU – Decent 4th at Enghien before coming 12th of 15, when preparing for this, in a 2750m Cabourg Class E early last month. Breaks from the front and has a decent chance of making first 5

8. KIMI DI QUATTRO – Won at Saint-Malo before coming 2nd of 8 in a 2650m Class D at Les Sables-d’Olonne mid-August. Starts to the inside of Eric Raffin but with Alexandre Abrivard back in the hot-seat, will be no pushover

9. HARISON DU PLESSIS – 9th of 14 when preparing for this in a 2850m Laval Class D 2 weeks ago. Nothing short of superb this summer and even from the wide outside, can impose

10. HOLD UP RANAIS – Left a good impression when 2nd of 14 in a 2800m Class E at Castéra-Verduzan  a month ago. Won over course and distance earlier in the year and, even stepping up in category, deserves to take his chances

11. NICE PRESENT – Quality element that came 3rd of 7 over 2400m at Waregem in preparation for this. Has previously won under these conditions and, on back line or not, is still a player

12. BITCOIND’ARC – Went into his early-June spell on a high note after winning a Class D over course and distance. Is in ‘competition-mode’ for comeback and looks main threat to HARISON DU PLESSIS (9)

13. HORTINO – Had been enjoying a decent streak before coming 8th of 14 in a 2650m Laval Class D late last month. Is proven over track and trip but others still easier to back

14. GAGNEUR – Has not been seen out since finishing 8th of 12 in a 2725m Pornichet Class E late-July. Front pads fitted but the draw will do him no favours

15. HAMIRAL NELSON – Reassuring 3rd of 12 in a 2750m Class E at La Capelle 2.5 weeks ago, having disappointed since coming 4th to BITCOIND’ARC (12) here early-June. Not a priority but still worth keeping an eye on

16. FAUCON DE L’ALBA – Good 3rd of 13 in a 2875m Enghien Class D mid-August. Races shod this time though and best to hold off

Summary: Very hard to knock when barefoot and focused, and reined by Eric Raffin, HARISON DU PLESSIS (9) starts wide but is in form, adores 2100m over the main track, and looks the horse to beat. That being said, BITCOIND’ARC (12) is barefoot for his return from a spell and even from the 2nd line, can put up significant resistance. Only once out of the frame in 3 Vincennes appearances, KIMI DI QUATTRO (8) has been flying lately and has won 3 times in 4 starts for Alexandre Abrivard. NICE PRESENT (11) seldom leaves the venue empty-handed and, barefoot for his return to the capital, must be taken seriously.

SELECTIONS
HARISON DU PLESSIS (9) – BITCOIND’ARC (12) – KIMI DI QUATTRO (8) – NICE PRESENT (11)
C5 – PRIX DE BASLY – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Gr2 Race – Mounted – EUR € 120,000

1. LISBONNE DRY – Debuted successfully in the monté code late last month, winning a Class E over course and distance, but the big step up in category is a step too far

2. LABEL DE TILLARD – Winner of his last 2 under the saddle, most recently dominating a Class C over course and distance 10 days ago. Is clearly progressive but perhaps not enough to play an active role this time

3. LIBERTINE DJOB – 2nd to LE VOYOU D’ALMO (6) in 2175m Gr.3 Prix Phact here 3 weeks ago. Has placed at this level but it is possible that she bites off more than she can chew this time

4. LUCAS – 9th of 10 in a harness Gr.2 over track and trip, on first start back, 2 weeks ago. Sports 4 pads for first time but seems to be out of his league

5. LEARN TO FLY – 3rd to LE VOYOU D’ALMO (6) in 2175m Gr.3 Prix Phact here 3 weeks ago. Has ground to make up but has taken well to his new vocation and will generate interest

6. LE VOYOU D’ALMO – Hard to fault when focused, latterly winning 2175m Gr.3 Prix Phact here 3 weeks ago. Steps up in category but merits his place in this field and, with just front pads fitted this time, should not be overlooked

7. LUCKY SIBEY – Last of 10 on re-entry in a harness Gr.2 over course and distance a fortnight ago. 4 pads fitted this time and is thoroughly capable of trotting his way into the frame

8. LITTLE ORELIE – Has not been seen out since trotting 3rd to LEXIE DE BANVILLE (9) in Gr.1 Prix d’Essai over track and trip late-June. Simply excellent since switching codes though and, if still on the boil, can run her close

9. LEXIE DE BANVILLE – Last of 11, on return to competition, in a 2700m harness Gr.2 here 2 weeks ago. Will have been prepared down to the last detail and looks set to continue her productive ways

Summary: Quite the race in prospect, with a number in contention, and the fillies appear to have the edge. Winner of the Gr.1 Prix d’Essai on her last monté appearance, LEXIE DE BANVILLE (9) has one race in her since the spell and, front pads fitted for the occasion, again looks a marginally better choice than the ever-performant LITTLE ORELIE (8) who has not been seen out since running 3rd to her in June. A Gr.2 winner over course and distance, and 4th in the Prix d’Essai, LUCKY SIBEY (7) has had his freshener, is shod to preference and, reunited with Eric Raffin, will be no soft touch.

SELECTIONS
LEXIE DE BANVILLE (9) – LITTLE ORELIE (8) – LUCKY SIBEY (7) – LE VOYOU D’ALMO (6)
C6 – PRIX SCYLLA – 2175m (a1m1/4) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 41,000

1. JET SPE – Reassuring 3rd of 8 in a 2400m Amiens Class E last weekend, but a repeat seems most improbable

2. JAMSHIR – Sanctioned in a 2800m Bernay Class F late last month. Has been disappointing since the spring and, even with hind shoes off, must get his house in order

3. JINGLE DES BROUETS – 4th of 6 in a 2950m Vichy monté Class G 2.5 weeks ago. Front shoes off but has other priorities

4. JAZZ MELODY – Not without merit but is as inclement as the wind, most recently sanctioned in a 2750m Cabourg Class E a month ago and, even reverting to a previous formula, will struggle to make her presence felt

5. JOUTEUR D’AUGE – 3rd at Montignac before coming 4th of 14 in a 2700m Class E at La Capelle 2.5 weeks ago. Is not about to win this but can still pick up a cheque

6. JUPANQUIE TONIQUE – Quickly sanctioned, but nevertheless showed her form, in a 1609m Argentan Class E on 10 August. Has never disappointed at Vincennes and is not about to start

7. JEEDAYA DU VIVIER – Quickly sanctioned in a 2800m Vire Class E 9 days ago, after having imposed at Agon 17 days earlier, and can more than make amends if she gets off on the right foot

8. JAZZIE DE BERLES – Useful on a good day but sanctioned in 3 of last 4, latterly a 2650m Class E at Les Sables-d’Olonne on 28 August, and will have few friends

9. JULIO DU RIB – Won 4 of his last 5 when barefoot, most recently dominating a 2725m Cabourg Class E 3.5 weeks ago, and even with pads fitted can secure the 3-timer

10. JADE MAJOR – 10th of 14 when preparing for this in a 2850m Feurs Class E earlier in the month. Has previously won here and, sporting pads for the occasion, will not be far from the action

11. JOHORE – Has not won for some time but gave a reassuringly good account when 3rd of 11 in a 2650m Pornichet Class E 3 weeks ago, and with Pierre-Yves Verva reining will be assured every chance

Summary: Spirited at the best of times, JULIO DU RIB (9) nonetheless makes his Vincennes debut on a hat-trick, and even sporting 4 pads for the occasion, can pull it off. David Thomain can still expect to feel the heat from the tricky but talented, and reconfigured, JEEDAYA DU VIVIER (7) who can be forgiven her recent sanction. Just €150 from elimination, JOHORE (11) showed his form at Pornichet and, fitted with just front shoes for the occasion, is unlikely to disappoint. JUPANQUIE TONIQUE (6) left a good impression despite losing her action at Argentan and, a mare with a good turn of foot, will be dangerous if focused.

SELECTIONS
JULIO DU RIB (9) – JEEDAYA DU VIVIER (7) – JOHORE (11) – JUPANQUIE TONIQUE (6)
C7 – PRIX CURSA – 2175m (a1m1/4) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 40,000

1. LAISSEZ FAIRE – Has shown promise more than once but will need to improve on her 8th of 9 in a 2950m Saint-Malo Class D early last month

2. LUANA SPORT – Made up for August sanction when showing her superiority in a 2275m Craon Class E on 1 September. David Thomain reining this time and is unlikely to be far off the mark

3. LAROZE DU GERS – Sanctioned, when clearly in good shape, in a 2700m Class D here late-August. Is not far off a big run but Matthieu Abrivard will need to stay vigilant. Chance

4. LOVELY CUT – Tricky filly but came good when making short work of a 2725m Graignes Class E earlier in the month. Competitively-shod this time and is not incapable of confirming

5. LILY ROSE D’URFIST – Won 2 of last 3, most recently a 2725m Pornichet Class E with authority on 29 August. P-Y Verva picks up the drive and can assure her a competitive chance

6. LONG ISLAND – Confirmed her Enghien performance when close 4th of 8 in a 2700m Class D here late last month, and the engagement of Alexandre Abrivard will do her prospects no disservice

7. LUNA D’ARNHEM – Disappointing of late, most recently 6th behind LONG ISLAND (6), in a 2700m Class D here on 28 August, and is not about to cause an upset

8. LISA MONA BLUE – Unremarkable 5th behind LONG ISLAND (6), in a 2700m Class D here on 28 August, and looks out of her depth

9. LADY D’ECAJEUL – Unraced since opening her account in a 2525m Class E at Les Andelys late-June. May need the race but should nevertheless acquit herself honourably

10. LA GUARDIA – Got off the mark mid-July but out of the picture in both since, latterly 7th behind LONG ISLAND (6), in a 2700m Class D here on 28 August, and can be passed over

11. LEMONADE FIZZ – Sports front pads for first time after faulting, when unsupported, in a 2750m Cabourg Class D late-July, and can expect to have few takers

12. LONDON DELO – Has had time to recuperate after coming 2nd of 10 finishers in a 2150m Enghien Class E late-July. Is clearly on the way up and looks a respectable first-5 chance

13. LOUBIANA DU BOURG – Quality element making first start since winning a 2450m Caen Class E on 18 May and will need the run

14. LINKIA DES APRES – Has done nothing but improve since returning to competition, latterly clinching a 2400m Châteaubriant Class E on 9 August. Steps up in category but is still capable of holding her own

15. LEDA MESLOISE – 5th of 6, on return to competition, in a 2700m Graignes Class B on 10 August. Has had time to come on and should be able to wrap this up

Summary: Nicely-engaged at the limit of earnings, the well-regarded LEDA MESLOISE (15) won 2 from 3 earlier in the year, has a comeback run under her belt, and with Eric Raffin in the bike, looks the pick of the field. Sporting 4 pads for the first time, LOVELY CUT (4) just recently got off the mark with ease and looks the main danger. By no means disgraced when sanctioned here late last month, LAROZE DU GERS (3) is close to her race and will have a lot to offer if she keeps trotting. LILY ROSE D’URFIST (5) flew up at Pornichet a fortnight ago and Pierre-Yves Verva replaces Eric Raffin with a good hand to play.

C8 – PRIX GALATHEA – 2200m (a1m1/2) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 33,000

1. MOUSKIE DE GUEZ – Qualified in 1’18″4 at Grosbois last month before being sanctioned in a 2400m Châteaubriant Class E, first time out, last weekend. Clearly has ability though and, if applied, can finish in the mix

2. MAZERATI PAJJ – 4th to MYRIAM D’AZUR (8) first time out before coming last but one in a 2000m Class E at Rambouillet last weekend and can be passed over

3. MONEGASQUE – Made up for her debut sanction when 4th of 8 in a 2400m Châteaubriant Class E last Sunday, but is unlikely to improve on that

4. MANAMA D’ORLY – Ran an honourable 3rd of 7 finishers, first time out, in a 2000m Class E at La Capelle last Sunday, but faces a much stiffer test this time around

5. MARBOXIE D’HERIPRE – 4th at Cabourg before coming 6th of 8 in a 2150m Class D at Les Sables-d’Olonne on 21 August. Is considerably better than the result suggests though and, with Yoann Lebourgeois reining, is not to be overlooked

6. MOSTRA DE BANVILLE – Looked thoroughly professional first time out, when 2nd of 9 in a 2300m Bernay Class E on 25 August. Will have come on for the run and can wrap this up

7. MAGDALENA – Lacklustre on debut before coming 2nd of 8 in a 2050m Cabourg Class E on 13 August. Unlikely to repeat but is still worth monitoring

8. MYRIAM D’AZUR – Met no opposition in a 2400m Arras Class F on debut on 18 August. In better company this time, with morale intact, and the engagement of Romain Derieux will only enhance her prospects of repeating

9. MOONLIGHT SHADOW – Made good progress to come 4th of 9 in a 2175m Class C here on 28 August. Will appreciate the different profile and is not to be underestimated

10. MONA LISA ELLIS – Went close on debut before coming 3rd of 5 in a 2050 Cabourg Class D 3 weeks ago. Still somewhat green but has the profile for the Vincennes inner track and must be afforded respect

Summary: MOSTRA DE BANVILLE (6) showed her fighting spirit on debut late last month, and looks the logical choice here. She will still feel some heat from MYRIAM D’AZUR (8) who made short work of her own debut just under a month ago. Solid in her last two, MOONLIGHT SHADOW (9) moves over to the inner track with a lot to contribute. MOUSKIE DE GUEZ (1) qualified nicely and can influence the result, provided Romain Congard keeps her trotting.

4. IN LOVE WITH PUCH – He was disqualified in a class H at Les Andelys over 2525m on 31 August. Remains barefoot and must be wise

5. HEAVEN MARGAUX – Disqualified in the last three, the latest in a class F at La Pertre over 2750m on 18 August. Must be wise. Reverts to barefoot

6. IRINA DU LUPIN – Well beaten 8th in a class G at Vincennes over 2850m on 5 September. Poor form this year and others are preferred

8. INDRA DE FORGES – She ran fourth in a class H at Montier-en-Der over 3050m on 8 September. She needs to find a few lengths to be competitive in the finish

9. HOLD UP MESLOIS – He was disqualified in a class F at Laval over 2650m on 25 August. It is worth ignoring the latest fault and can bounce back to score

10. ICONE PLANCHETTE – Finished 6th in a class G at Vincennes over 2850m on 5 September. Remains barefoot. Six unplaced runs since winning in July

He has already proven his efficiency/competitiveness over this distance and on this course. Unexposed DARABUKKAH (1) has sufficient means to pose a threat although newcomer PUBLIC ENEMY (7) could also be a factor. JESS LIVERMORE (2) appeals most of the remainder.

Summary: Supplemented THE WHITE LADY (8) hit the woodwork in her only handicap appearance and she is well placed to go one better getting weight from all her rivals. 10. FISFUL OF LOVE – Experienced filly in the claiming category. Finished 4th in a course-and-distance claimer on 6 September

Summary: TELCHERBOLINE (3), one of many in the race on handicap debut, has shown enough to suggest that she can open her account here at the primary expense of LAITH (2) who fits a similar profile but concedes 1,5kg to the selection. OLYA (1) gives weight to all in her first handicap appearance but shouldn’t be underestimated. YOUNG AND PROUD (4) has the form and experience to make his presence felt too.

Summary: MELO MELO (8) blotted her copybook in a 2800m Group II at Goodwood last month but looks good value to make amends on a track she particularly appreciates. VILLAGE VOICE (2) has also been successful at this venue, winning a Group III here last fall. 5. MORSAN – Capable veteran with references in Quinte+ handicaps but went off the boil earlier this year – unplaced in 4 consecutive appearances, the latest (8th) after a 3-month layoff in a conditions race at Dieppe on 27 August

6. JACKSUN – Consistent performer in Germany – finished 4th on a 2200m handicap at Baden-Baden – but has struggled this year in handicaps on French soil. For lovers of outsiders

7. LETTY’S MARVEL – Caught the eye when 4th in a 1900m PSF Quinté+ handicap on 28 July but failed to confirm that form when a well-beaten 15th in that category over the same track and trip at Deauville on 17 August. Can do better

He returns fresh following his 3rd in a Quinté+ handicap in June and seems ideally engaged under these conditions to make a winning comeback. Consistent rivals MAX VERST (8), whose 4th at Lyon-Parilly last time was encouraging, and NASOMO (3), equally adept on turf as on PSF, are best equipped to challenge the selection. LETTY’S MARVEL (7) and ALPAGE (10) appeal most of the remainder.

3. VASIGREEN – Last-start winner of a 2400m Vittel handicap on 12 August. Remains competitive for victory despite a 2,5kg penalty

4. TCHAKOVA – Versatile in-form mare whose competitiveness at this level off her current mark is beyond doubt. Finished 2nd in a 2400m handicap at La Teste on 10 July and should make her presence felt once more

5. MISURINA – Improved in first-time headgear to finish 3rd in a 2200m handicap Dieppe in July but finished a well-beaten 10th in a 2400m handicap at Clairefontaine on 24 August. Needs to reaffirm

6. LIXI – Won a course-and-distance handicap in May and maintained her form/consistency in 3 subsequent outings before finishing unplaced (9th) in a 3000m Vichy handicap on 7 August. Shouldn’t be hastily condemned

7. ZELINA – Narrowly beaten when runner-up in a 2200m Dieppe handicap in July and wasn’t seen to best effect when only 6th in a handicap over 1800m at Clairefontaine on 12 August. Will appreciate the extended distance

8. VARENNA – Has won and finished 3rd in 2 turf handicaps. Unplaced (7th) in a conditions race over 1800m at Saint-Malo on 22 August on her return from an 11-month absence, so is best watched for now

9. VENTOSILLA – Consistent, lightly raced filly whose 3 handicap appearances have yielded a 3rd and two 6th-placed finishes including her most recent start on PSF over 2500m at Deauville on 18 August. Player with Mickaël Barzalona

10. KOURAL – Won a 2500m handicap on this course in March but has finished unplaced in both subsequent outings, the latest (13th) in a 2400m handicap at Compiegne on 9 July. For another day

12. MADAME DE SAXE – Has finished 4th in back-to-back recent outings, the latest a 2400m handicap at Clairefontaine on 24 August

Summary: ZELINA (7) was a fast-finishing close-up 2nd over 2200m at Dieppe in July and probably found 1800m a touch on the sharp side when 6th at Clairefontaine last time. With conditions more to her liking here, she could fight for victory with last-start winners VASIGREEN (3) and ZAHYANA (2), who remain competitive under resultant penalties. LORNE (1) isn’t taken lightly and ought to fare better at this level, with the shortlist completed by consistent TCHAKOVA (4).

PRINCESSE D’AMOUR (11) looks the part on paper and is from a leading trainer who can ready one to know what is required on their first day at school. KAVAKNEY (9) could be the one that makes the selection work hard for success. He has been second on his last three starts and is overdue a win. BIENNE (3) looks like an each-way must.
