French Selections Thursday 26th

R1 CHERBOURG [L-H]
C1 – GRAND NATIONAL DU TROT – 2600m (a1m1/2) – Gr3 Race – Harness – EUR € 90,000

1. HOLD UP DU DIGEON – Last of 14, to HERO SIBEY (6), in a 2700m Vincennes Class C 2.5 weeks ago. Reverts to a previous formula and while proven at this level, still appears to have too much to do

2. HUBBLE DU VIVIER – Last of 11, on re-entry, in a 2850m Vincennes Class B on 14 September. Is a long way from his spring form and can be ruled out

3. IBISCUS MAN – Made it 2 straight sanctions when faulting in a 2700m Vincennes Class C last week. Showed his form that day though, starts in front here, and with application should not be far from the action

4. HORATIUS D’ELA – Honest trotter that would have finished closer than 5th of 12 in a 2850m Parilly Class D a week ago had he not faulted. Seldom lets the side down, should appreciate the Cherbourg profile, and is expected to figure prominently

5. HALLIX – 7th of 8, on first start since the spell, in a 4275m Vichy Class D mid-month. Has other priorities and can be ruled out

6. HERO SIBEY – Made it 7 victories from last 8 starts when comfortable winner of a 2700m Vincennes Class C 2.5 weeks ago. Could not have hoped for a better entry and looks the pick of the field

7. IGREC DE CELLAND – Current GNT points-leader but most recently sanctioned, when going well, in Le Mans edition, a 2950m Gr.3, 2 weeks ago. Clearly has nothing to prove in this category and David Thomain will be keen to make good on recent sanction

8. HIDALGO DES NOES – Won 2 on the trot before coming a valiant 5th of 15 in the Le Mans edition, a 2950m Gr.3, 2 weeks ago. Thrives with Gabi Gelormini reining and, even though on the 2nd row, can still make his presence felt

9. ESPACE WINNER – Winner of last 2, most recently a 2850m Feurs Class B on 2 September. Is new to the venue but receives a François Lagadeuc drive for first time and must be afforded respect

10. GENDREEN – 8th in Saint-Malo edition before finishing 8th of 12, behind HORATIUS D’ELA (4), in a 2550m Class B at Beaumont-de-Lomagne a month ago. Has had time to recalibrate, races barefoot this time, and should logically finish closer

11. HIP HOP HAUFOR – Makes just 2nd start back following a long break, finishing last of 15 on re-entry, behind HIDALGO DES NOES (8), in a 2950m Le Mans Gr.3 a fortnight ago, and will be expected to need another conditioner

12. GOELAND D’HAUFOR – Never taxed when 13th of 15, behind HIDALGO DES NOES (8), in a 2950m Le Mans Gr.3 a fortnight ago. Barefoot on this occasion and, if fully-fit, can get a look-in

13. GRACE DU DIGEON – Quality dual-purpose mare that endured a tough trip to finish 10th of 16 in a 2775m Craon Gr.3 early this month. Faces first goal of new season, excels with Eric Raffin who will be eager to take advantage of her good entry

14. EMERAUDE DE BAIS – Won a Cagnes Gr.2 over a mile before running 3rd of 11 in an 1800m Gr.2 at La Capelle 3 weeks ago. Shoes back on here though and the 50m handicap only compounds matters

15. HIRONDELLE DU RIB – Returns to the harness code after coming 6th of 9 in a 2175m monté Gr.2 here 3 weeks ago. Shoes on and no threat

16. GRANVILLAISE BLEUE – Classy monté mare making first appearance since coming 4th of 6 in a 2175m monté Gr.3 here in early-June. Has nothing going for her here and can be disregarded

Summary: Starting on the front line, HERO SIBEY (6) has taken his game to a new level this year and should have this in the bag if he replicates his latest performance. 4th to him at Vincennes that day, HORATIUS D’ELA (4) also benefits from a front line break, and should be competitive once more, but may first have to bow to the on-form IGREC DE CELLAND (7) who, despite starting with a 25m handicap, still looks a serious proposition. Barefoot on this occasion, IBISCUS MAN (3) would have finished in the mix last time out had he not lost his action and Christian Larue will be loathe to let such a good opportunity slip by.

SELECTIONS
HERO SIBEY (6) – IGREC DE CELLAND (7) – HORATIUS D’ELA (4) – IBISCUS MAN (3)
C2 – PRIX INTERMARCHE QUETTEHOU – 2600m (a1m1/2) – Class B Race – Harness – EUR € 29,000

1. LUCKY PORT – By no means disgraced when 6th of 12 in a 2175m Vincennes Class D a fortnight ago, but even from the front row is unlikely to shake things up

2. LUTIN DU BUST – Pleasant winner at Le Mans before finishing 7th of 9 in a 2950m Saint-Malo Class D early-August. Shoes back on and is simply not up to the task

3. LITTLEKING FOXGLEN – Tricky character that returned to winning ways in a 2150m Mauquenchy Class E a fortnight ago. Eric Raffin drafted in for the occasion but still looks more a minor place prospect

4. LIBERTE DU GOUTIER – Has not been seen out since faulting early in a 2875m Enghien Class C late-July. Shoes back on and will have other priorities

5. LADY AURELIA – Seldom far from faulting, which she showed in last 2, latterly a 2525m Class D at Les Andelys 10 days ago. Has merit though and, from the front line, is not to be entirely overlooked

6. LONG LEGEND – Made up for her Enghien performance when 4th of 9 in a 2525m Class D at Les Andelys 10 days ago. Unlikely to cause an upset but is still capable of getting a look-in

7. LOLITA TURGOT – Reassured behind LOUVE DE REVE D’OR (16) at Enghien 2 months ago before finishing last but one to LITTLE WINGS (15) in a 2875m Enghien Class B on 11 August, and can be passed over

8. LARA CROFT – Useful sort making first appearance since coming 2nd of 6 in a 2650m Bordeaux Class B in June. Sports pads for comeback though and could pleasantly surprise if she takes to the new profile

9. LOBBING DE BLARY – Talented colt but went off the boil during the summer, latterly last of 11 in a 2700m Vincennes Class A 2.5 weeks ago, and must first re-establish his credentials

10. LUMIZIANA – 3rd of 8 finishers to LITTLE WINGS (15) in a 2875m Enghien Class B on 11 August. In better company this time but should nevertheless hold her own

11. LA STAR ROC – Handy filly but has not been seen out since coming 4th of 11 in a 2700m Vincennes Class A 4 months ago, and is not about to spring a surprise

12. LA DIVA SUPREME – Was not disgraced when 4th of 5 in a 2700m Vincennes Gr.3 a month ago. Should take well to Cherbourg conditions and will be no pushover

13. LUNGA DES BROUSSES – Got off the mark at Enghien late-July before coming 3rd, a place behind LOUVE DE REVE D’OR (16), in a 2700m Vincennes Class A a month ago and, with form maintained can challenge for the win this time

14. LILI DRY – Talented but as tricky as they come, latterly sanctioned early in a 2700m Vincennes Gr.2 late last month and must get her house in order

15. LITTLE WINGS – Returned to competition with success at Enghien before coming 4th of 11 finishers in a 2700m Vincennes Class A 2.5 weeks ago, and should again figure prominently

16. LOUVE DE REVE D’OR – Progressive filly that ran a courageous 2nd of 9 finishers in a 2700m Vincennes Class A a month ago, and should have the measure of the field this time

17. LISTENTOTHEMUSIC – Group-class filly with 2 races under her belt since the spell, most recently sanctioned when preparing for this in a 2700m Graignes Class B early last month. Alone on 3rd line but still has the wherewithal to pick up a cheque

Summary: Nicely-engaged on the second line, LOUVE DE REVE D’OR (16) has hardly put a foot wrong since the spring and her recent Vincennes performance augurs well for her chances of imposing this time. A few lengths away but a place behind her nevertheless that day, LUNGA DES BROUSSES (13) is clearly on the move and will be no pushover. LA DIVA SUPREME (12) drops back to a more reasonable level, with Alexandre Abrivard reining this time, and is not about to disappoint. Winner of 3 on the trot, LITTLE WINGS (15) held her own in a Class A last time and is not incapable of challenging for a place in the frame.

SELECTIONS
LOUVE DE REVE D’OR (16) – LUNGA DES BROUSSES (13) – LA DIVA SUPREME (12) – LITTLE WINGS (15)
C3 – PX REGION NORMANDIE-PX JEAN-YVES LECUYER – 2600m (a1m1/2) – Class F Amateur Drivers Race – Harness – EUR € 8,000

1. GYPSIE MAGIQUE – Not the most dependable but has solid amateur credentials, most recently 3rd of 11 in a 2150m Mauquenchy Class G a fortnight ago. On the front line but appears to be biting off more than she can chew

2. HERACLES DU LILAS – Capable in the amateur division but will need to improve on recent 8th of 9 behind IQUITO PLANCHETTE (16) in a 2850m Vincennes amateurs Class F last week

3. HORS CADRE – In the frame in last 2, most recently 2nd of 10 in a 2700m Guingamp Class F 2.5 weeks ago. Races barefoot this time but has no left-handed references and others easier to back

4. IZIJAL – Made up for his Saint-Malo disqualification when 4th of 10 in a 2400m Ploublay Class F 2.5 weeks ago. Boasts solid Cherbourg references, starts in front, and is not without a chance of getting a look-in

5. FETARD – 6th of 12 in a 2725m Lisieux amateurs Class G on Sunday and appears to have no possible chance

6. GUESS LUFFY – 5th of 11, behind GYPSIE MAGIQUE (1), in a 2150m Mauquenchy amateurs Class G a fortnight ago but faces a considerably stiffer test on this occasion

7. HORACE – Has taken decently to the amateur category, latterly 3rd of 12 in a 2750m Class H at La Ferté-Vidame on 18 August, but in this company will struggle to make his mark

8. HOKITOLOVE – Has improved with every run recently, latterly 5th of 10 in a 2650m Class F at Les Sables-d’Olonne on 6 September. Sports 4 pads for first time and, even though nicely-engaged, still has more to find

9. HENRIETT D’AURCY – Consistently in the thick of things at this level, latterly victorious in a 2950m Le Mans Class F amateurs 2 weeks ago and, sporting the same configuration, is not to be underestimated

10. FIFTY WINNER – Reassuring 2nd to HENRIETT D’AURCY (9) in a 2950m Le Mans Class F amateurs 2 weeks ago. Goes barefoot again and, with application, will not be too far from the action

11. HEMERA TURGOT – Takes to the amateur division for just 2nd time after having run 4th of 9 in a 2775m Class E at Les Sables-d’Olonne on 28 August. Not disgraced here mid-June and has a reasonable chance of making first 5

12. HIGH MONEY D’AVRAN – Solid in 4 of last 5 amateur starts, most recently trotting 3rd in Le Mans race of reference, and will have her supporters

13. HEMILIO PIERJI – Scored his 9th amateur success a week ago, winning a 2200m Caen Class F. Barbara Guenet reining this time and even from the 2nd line, looks a player

14. ILLIMITEE – Won 3 in a row before finishing 7th of 9 in a 2925m Cagnes Class A a month back. Returns to her preferred configuration and has a realistic chance of making her Cherbourg debut a winning one

15. HILLONA DE NESLE – 7th of 9 in a 2900m Arras Class F on Sunday. Backs up with shoes on though and would be preferred in the other code

16. IQUITO PLANCHETTE – A veritable metronome since switching categories, most recently 2nd of 9 in a 2850m Vincennes amateurs Class F last week, and takes on ILLIMITEE (14) with legitimate ambition

Summary: ILLIMITEE (14) was by no means disgraced [when shod] in a Class A recently, has already won six times this year, including in the amateur division, and reverting to a successful formula, looks the horse to beat. Florian Ginard would still be wise to be wary of the well-entered IQUITO PLANCHETTE (16) who missed out on his own 6-timer just last week, and the on-song HENRIETT D’AURCY (9) who thrives in this category. Winner of 2 of his last 3, HEMILIO PIERJI (13) is proven here and, in current condition, is easy to make a case.

SELECTIONS
ILLIMITEE (14) – IQUITO PLANCHETTE (16) – HENRIETT D’AURCY (9) – HEMILIO PIERJI (13)
C4 – TECHNIBOX-LEGIRET/PMU LE LONGCHAMP CHBG – 2625m (a1m1/2) – Class E Amateur Riders Race – Harness – EUR € 20,000

1. IMMIX PONT VAUTIER – Has twice failed to confirm his Carentan success, most recently last of 7 in a 2550m Dieppe Class F on 14 September and, with pads fitted this time, can be ruled out

2. INTRIGUE DE VIETTE – Reassuring 5th of 7 finishers in a 2625m Plouescat Class H mid-August. Has decent references in apprentice races and, from the front line, will be expected to finish in the mix

3. ISIS DE CALVI – In the frame in 3 of last 4, most recently 3rd of 12 in a 2475m Francheville amateurs  Class H mid-August. Comes here fresh and the front-line start will only work in her favour

4. IALKO VASANI – Pleased in an Abbeville amateurs event before faulting in a 2550m Dieppe Class F mid-month. Is well-placed on front line and, with some luck in running, can play a small part

5. IZENHA DU PILET – Lost her way after imposing twice during the summer, most recently last but one in a 2525m amateurs Class H at Les Andelys late last month, and chances slim

6. ICE BAR GIRL – Makes first start since finishing 12th of 15 in a 2875m Argentan Class E late-March, and can be confidently passed over

7. INZAGHY – Sanctioned in a 2525m Class F at Les Andelys 10 days ago. Won over course and distance earlier in the year but looks more an outside chance this time around

8. INES LAND – Has not been seen out since finishing last but one in a 2800m Rambouillet Class E mid-June and, barefoot or not, will need the run

9. IKEM DU GERS – 3rd of 7 in a 2800m Moulins Class F 2.5 weeks ago. Could not enjoy a better entry and has a reasonable chance of making the frame once more

10. IF DU RIB – 2nd at Saint-Malo before flying up in a Class F over course and distance on 19 August. Steps up in category but still looks a major player

11. ISTORIA MOON – Left a good impression when 4th of 13 in a 2850m Laval Class E mid-month and, with form maintained, should be no easy touch. Place prospect

12. IVORY WIND – Won her 3rd of the season late-July at Saint-Omer before finishing an atypical last of 10 in a 2875m Enghien Class D early-August. Has had time to recalibrate and, already twice a winner for Lilian Bertin this season, should make amends

13. INVASION D’OEILLET – Useful mare that pleased on lone start here but has not raced since finishing last of 10 in a 2700m Vincennes Class D early-May, and with shoes on can be disregarded

14. INFERNO POURPRE – Off the boil over recent months, latterly 9th of 16 in a 2800m Auch Class E early-September, and will have few takers

15. ILLICO DE BUSSET – Failed to deliver when 6th of 11 in a 2600m Class F here on 19 August. Shoes on and no threat

16. IVORINO D’ECHAL – Respectable at Vincennes before faulting, when well-backed, in a 2775m Class E at Les Sables-d’Olonne last Friday. Is plainly at the top of his game though and, with application, can bring home the bacon

Summary: Ideally-entered at the limit of earnings, IVORINO D’ECHAL (16) failed to get around Les Sables unscathed but has secured 3 of his last 5 and can win this if Tom Beauvais manages to keep him focused. IVORY WIND (12) boasts an identical statistic and will be considerably more performant than she was at Enghien. ISTORIA MOON (11) has been knocking at the door all season and drops marginally in category with a good hand to play. Barefoot and back under harness, IKEM DU GERS (9) is 25m better off and Lucas Legrand will be keen to capitalise.

C5 – PRIX PMU “AU PETIT PARAPLUIE” CHERBOURG – 2600m (a1m1/2) –  – Mounted – EUR € 51,000

1. HADRIEN MERITE – 4th of 9 in a 2750m Class F at La Capelle on 13 September. In this company though has no realistic chance

2. JOKER DE FROULAY – Has been knocking at the door this summer, most recently 2nd of 9 finishers in a 2700m Vincennes Class C mid-month. Well-placed on Line 1 and looks a solid place prospect

3. ISOCRATE D’ELA – 9th of 12, when prepping for this, in a 2850m Laval harness Class E earlier in the month. Is useful when focused though and, barefoot for the occasion, will have his supporters

4. HANANE MONTAVAL – Takes first competitive monté steps after trotting 7th of 12 in a 2850m Class E at Bagnoles-de-l’Orne mid-August. Not an obvious choice but is still worth monitoring

5. HAIDA SAUTONNE – Returns to the monté discipline having finished 10th of 12 in a 2100m Vincennes harness Class D on 14 September. Has just one ridden success to her name but the good entry will only work to her advantage

6. FLOPY RUSH – Reassured at Craon before faulting early in a 2850m Laval Class D mid-month, but form is not in question and, if focused, can play a prominent role

7. GAVROCHE BEST – Respectable, and surprising, 6th of 9 in a 2850m Vincennes Class D last week, but has little chance of confirming

8. FASCINOSO DE LOU – Yet to find his feet this term, most recently sanctioned in a 2775m Craon Class D on 2 September. Has ability but others easier to trust

9. JAZZ IN MONTREUX – Sanctioned under the saddle at Vincennes before posting a similar result in a 2750m Ecommoy harness Class B 2.5 weeks ago. Has talent to burn and, on good behaviour, can make this his own

10. JELYSON – Last but one, on return from a 7 months’ absence, in a 2850m Vincennes Class A a month ago. Will have progressed for the run but is no longer the horse he once was. The change of shoeing may be just the ticket though. Attention

11. FIASCHETTO – Makes first appearance since coming last of 15 in a 2875m Argentan harness Class A last November, and has no possible chance

12. EDITION GEMA – Gr.1-winning mare starting for first time since finishing 6th of 8 in a 2700m Vincennes Gr.3 3 months ago. Does not enjoy the best of entries but on class alone is better than the field. Chance

Summary: Although sanctioned in the Gr.3 Prix Legoux-Longpré in August, JAZZ IN MONTREUX (9) has otherwise been in fine shape and can open his late-season account if Nathalie Henry manages to keep him trotting. She will still be keeping a watchful eye on the classy EDITION GEMA (12) who, even though sporting front pads, unraced since June, and incurring a 50m penalty, can still apply the pressure. Third in the aforementioned Gr.3, JOKER DE FROULAY (2) went close in a Class C next time and from the front line will be no easy touch. FLOPY RUSH (6) has never disappointed at Cherbourg and will not be far off the mark if he keeps his action together.

C6 – PRIX SPEN VEOLIA – 2625m (a1m1/2) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 22,000

1. KIWI DE BAFFAIS – Struggled briefly early-summer but reassuring 4th of 9 in a 2700m Graignes Class F on 19 August and, barefoot again, can make the frame this time

2. KLUEDO DE L’AVRE – Returns to racing unshod-behind after coming 3rd of 11 in a 2650m Pornichet Class E a month ago. Breaks in front and, given his versatility, will have his chances

3. KARINE DU DOLLAR – Has 2 races under her belt since the break, latterly sanctioned in a 2700m Vincennes Class E late last month. On front row, with shoes back on, and should not be far from the action if Maxime Bézier keeps her trotting

4. KILLER BECO – Good 2nd at Castéra-Verduzan before coming last of 10 in a 2700m Vincennes Class E late last month. Should appreciate this less-demanding track and has the ability to trot his way into the money this time

5. KING’S RETURN – 3rd of 10 in a 2150m Enghien Class E mid-August. Incurs the penalty here though and, with shoes on, will have limited chances

6. KUNDERA D’ALOUETTE – Dependability not her strong suit but in the frame in last 2, most recently 3rd of 12 in a 2100m Vincennes claimer a month ago. Steps back up in category but no more than a minor place prospect

7. KASSIOPEE DU NOYER – Drops in category after coming 5th of 11 in a 2100m Vincennes Class E 3 weeks ago and should be sufficiently good enough to challenge for the win this time

8. KALINE DU BOULAY – Last of 9 in a 2950m Saint-Malo Class F on 13 August. Disappointing since the layoff and must get her house in order

9. KLASS HAUFOR – Starts for first time since faulting in a 2700m Vincennes Class B late-February. Has bags of ability but shoes on and is expected to be race-rusty

10. KIRIKOU DU CLOS – Off the track since being sanctioned in a 2700m Vincennes monté Class C last May. Shoes on and will have other priorities

11. KALINE DU RIB – Sanctioned in last 3, latterly a 2700m Graignes Class B earlier this month. Is useful when focused though, has previously imposed at Cherbourg, and with application can get a look-in

12. KENTUCKY VALLEY – 7th of 11 in a 2875m Enghien Class D mid-August, on first objective of new season. Just hind shoes off for first time and, even from the back row, can finish in the mix

13. KELLE HAUFOR – Went into her layoff last February after winning a 2100m Vincennes Class D. Races shod for re-entry and best to hold off

14. KRACUS DE GUEZ – Handy dual-discipline colt making first start of the season, not having run since coming 5th of 6 in a 2700m Vincennes Gr.3 last February, and will pose no danger

15. KAN DURAN – Decent sort with nothing to prove at this level but has not raced since finishing last but one in a 2150m Vichy Class C 4 months ago, and will need the run

16. KELLY JANE – Quality filly making first appearance since coming 2nd of 10 in a 2700m Vincennes Class C on New Year’s Eve. Shoes on and no threat

Summary: The big guns start on the front line in this edition, with KASSIOPEE DU NOYER (7) looking a serious proposition with two 2nd places in three of her last barefoot starts. She has never disappointed for Adrien Lamy and is well-placed to win this. She will still face resistance from a reconfigured KLUEDO DE L’AVRE (2) who has been hard to fault over recent months, and Alexis Collette will be out to make up for the performance KILLER BECO (4) produced in Paris late last month. KILLER BECO (4) showed improvement last time out and receives a David Thomain drive on this occasion.

SELECTIONS

C7 – PRIX LA CITE DE LA MER – 2600m (a1m1/2) – Class B Race – Harness – EUR € 33,000

1. JUNKIES MINDS – Missed out by little for 3rd [of 8] in a 2750m Cabourg Class E early-August. Shoes back on though and best to wait

2. JERICHO DU RIB – Erratic but not without ability, most recently coming 2nd of 11 in a 2800m Vire Class E 3 weeks ago. Better racing clockwise but, from the front line, will be dangerous if he takes to the new profile

3. JAZZIE DE BERLES – Not short of talent but out of the picture in last 5, latterly sanctioned early in a 2175m Vincennes Class E  12 days ago. It is only a matter of time before she comes good again though

4. JAFAR DE FAEL – Unraced since being sanctioned in a 2875m Enghien Class E on 17 July. Front pads fitted this time and chances appear limited

5. JADE DE DAIDOU – Pleasant at Amiens before being sanctioned in a 2550m Dieppe Class E early this month. Shod to preference this time and can pick up a cheque if she deigns to stay in stride

6. JAMBIER – Won 2 of last 4, most recently with ease in a 2850m Mauquenchy Class E 2 weeks ago, and winner on his only start here, must be considered a leading contender

7. JUST D’ACADIE – Won at Pornichet early-August before coming 2nd of 11 in a 2650m Class E at the same venue a fortnight later. Enjoys front-row break and Teddy Calo will be loathe to pass up such a good opportunity

8. JACQUARD – Sent for a lengthy break after winning 2 in a row, last time a 2700m Vincennes monté Class C last January, and will have little to contribute

9. JACKMAN – Makes first start of 2024, not having been seen out since winning a 2700m Vincennes Class C on New Year’s Eve and, shod for re-entry, has no possible chance

10. JOUVENCE DE CAREL – 4th in an Enghien Class B before faulting, with gas in the tank, in a 2100m Vincennes Class B mid-month. With stride in check though can give JAMBIER (6) a run for his money

11. JEANNETTE PRIORY – Put some poor performances behind her with victory in a 2800m Class B at Le Croisé-Laroche on 9 September and will again be competitive if Tony Le Beller keeps her focused

12. JANE AIMEE – 9th of 11, on comeback, to JEANNETTE PRIORY (11) in a 2800m Class B at Le Croisé-Laroche on 9 September. David Thomain reining this time but others still preferred

13. JASON DU CONROY – 5th of 9 in a 2175m Vincennes monté Class C late last month. Is here for a change of scenery and can be passed over

14. JAIN MAB – Unraced since faulting in a 2150m Enghien Class D early-July. Has talent in spades but stays shod and will treat this as a conditioner

15. JOLIE SURPRISE – Serious mare making first appearance since coming 4th of 9 in a 2700m Vincennes Gr.3 last January. On 3rd line, with shoes on, and is not about to make any waves

16. JAKARTAS DES PRES – Unseen since finishing last of 8 in a 3000m Vincennes monté Gr.1 late-June. Here for reasons of conditioning and no threat

Summary: At the top of his game and smartly-positioned on the first row, JAMBIER (6) is reunited with Benjamin Rochard, who won with him at Granville and, successful here last April, can impose his will once more. They can expect to encounter opposition though from the complicated JOUVENCE DE CAREL (10) who nevertheless has form at a superior level, and recent winner JEANNETTE PRIORY (11), both of which are forced to start on the 2nd line. 25m better off, and plainly back in business, JUST D’ACADIE (7) is not about to let the side down.

C8 – PRIX LE COTENTIN – DEPARTEMENT DE LA MAN – 2625m (a1m1/2) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 29,000

1. CALIGOLA LASER – Opened his French account at Saint-Malo  before coming 3rd of 14 in a 2100m Vincennes Class D late-August. David Thomain back in the bike and, in this company, looks a decent first-5 chance

2. IBRAHIC – Steps back up in category, and changes shoeing, after winning a 2575m Dieppe amateurs Class H, at 48/1, a week ago, but a repeat seems most improbable

3. ILDO DU VIVIER – A write-off since winning at Le Croisé-Laroche early-April, latterly last of 9 in a 2700m Class F at the same venue earlier this month, and can be ignored

4. IVA ROYALE – 5th of 8 here before running 3rd of 12 [despite an unfavourable trip] in a 2825m Chartres Class F 12 days ago, and looks competitive for another podium place

5. INSOLITE – Placed in an amateur event before coming 7th of 12 finishers in a 2850m Laval Class E earlier in the month. Would however be preferred at a lower level

6. IDEAL FOUR – Unremarkable 6th of 10 in a 2900m Châteauroux Class F mid-month and has little going for him this time either

7. TRUMPIE – Returns to France after coming 4th of 5 over 2840m at Mons last Saturday. Starts in front but takes on some better horses this time

8. IMPACT DE L’ITON – Imposed at Saint-Malo before trotting 4th of 11 in a 2150m Mauquenchy Class E a fortnight ago. Nicely-entered on front row and is unlikely to go home empty-handed

9. IMAGINE DARLING – Undeniably capable but out of the picture in all 3 this term, latterly sanctioned in a 2475m Royan Class E  a month ago. Benjamin Rochard in the bike this time however and should not be ignored

10. HARIBO DU CARNOIS – Reassuring 4th of 13 in a 2575m Niort Class E 10 days ago. Pleased on lone appearance at the venue but the extra 25m will do him no favours

11. STARO MOJITO – In the frame in 2 before faulting in a 2500m Reims Class E 10 days ago. Is reunited with Franck Nivard and can start to set the record straight

12. COBRA KILLER GAR – Unraced since winning a 2100m Vincennes Class C mid-May. Has shown remarkable speed and consistency and, if fully-fit, can set the cat among the pigeons

13. IS MAGIC HAUFOR – Has not been seen out since being sanctioned in a 2875m Meslay Class D late-May. Shoes on for comeback and best to hold off

14. EVAN PAULO – 9th of 12 in a 3450m Agon-Coutainville Class E late-August. Has been out of sorts, but is barefoot for the occasion, appreciates Cherbourg, and can play a small part

15. IMOKO JIBELAU – Like a horse reborn this summer, most recently courageous winner of a 2950m Vichy Class D mid-month, and even from the back line looks a leading contender

16. INDIGO PIERJI – Outclassed the opposition 10 days ago in a 2800m Rambouillet Class E. Boasts a 50% win-rate when barefoot and can repeat

Summary: Hard to fault recently when competing barefoot, IMOKO JIBELAU (15) won in good order last time out and returns to racing left-handed with every chance of confirming. That being said, INDIGO PIERJI (16) has secured 2 of his last 3 and the nature of his latest success augurs particularly well for his prospects. COBRA KILLER GAR (12) won 4 in a row earlier in the year before being sent for a holiday, but is barefoot for re-entry and can get straight back in the game. IVA ROYALE (4) has shown good consistency, pleased here last month, is 25m better off, and will be no easy touch.

Summary: PIANO MAN (7) is a three time winner, ran an absolute cracker when 2nd at Toulouse last time at the races and can go one better this time. He is the confident first selection. NIGHTS ON BROADWAY (2) has lined up in some competitive races and was impressive in Spain last time. A huge effort can be expected from this runner.  VA S’Y MIX (3) is a three time winner and can surely do much better than last run when 7th. Strong place chance. He is held on his last start but should be able to turn the form around with more improvement to come. BOETTI (4) is well treated at the weights with an apprentice engaged to ride and he is threatening to win. SUN PROJECT (2) is better than his last and perhaps it was just too far for him, he steps back to the mile where he has run well and is likely to challenge. VALINA (3) brings solid recent form into the race and might well be the one they all have to fear the most. VIRIMOON ETOILE (7) comes into the race fresh off a victory at Pompadour and if he were to follow up, it would be no shock at all. HOOLONG (2) should be right there at the finish. First four credentials.
