French Selections Friday 18th

R1 VINCENNES [L-H]
C1 – PRIX SATURNE – 2850m (a2m) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 56,000

1. BRAVEHEART GRIF – Ran 3rd under these conditions 2 months ago but will need to show considerable improvement on his 8th of 11 in a 2100m Class E here a week ago

2. HANDSOME BOY – Sanctioned in a 2850m Laval Class D a fortnight ago. Has other priorities and can be dismissed

3. HANIKA DU LUPIN – Produced career-best performance 9 days ago, winning a 2875m Enghien Class D with some authority, on first start for 3 months, and with form maintained, will have her chances

4. HERAKLION DESBOIS – Pleasant 4th of 10 in a 2875m Meslay-du-Maine Class D earlier this month. Has never delivered over 2850m on either course here and is not about to start

5. HIP HOP DE MADKER – 6th of 16, behind HIATUS (7), in a 2150m Enghien Class E 3 weeks ago. Has never disappointed under these conditions, sports front pads for the occasion, and tends to go well for Eric Raffin. First 5

6. HOLLENBOURG – 14th of 16, behind behind HIATUS (7), in a 2150m Enghien Class E 3 weeks ago. Has yet to come to hand this term and must get his house in order

7. HIATUS – Encouraged at Enghien late-September before finishing last but one in a 2100m Class E here a week ago. Has never produced the goods over 2850m on the main track and is unlikely to change his ways

8. HIRONDELLE FEE – Placed at Le Mans before running 5th of 10, a place behind HERAKLION DESBOIS (4), in a 2875m Meslay-du-Maine Class D earlier this month, and is unlikely to influence the outcome

9. G.K.JUSTUS – Encouraging 2nd of 11 in a 3100m Nort-sur-Erdre Class F early last month. Has made his mark over 2850m here and is reunited with Pierre-Yves Verva who won with him that day

10. MASK OFF (FIN) – 10th of 12 over 3100m at Kouvola mid-June. Debuts for Dominik Locqueneux with high expectations and is not incapable of delivering

11. FIGHTER SIMONI – Has thrived since leaving Sweden, most recently complementing a hat-trick with 2nd of 13 in a 2750m Cabourg monté Class E a fortnight ago, and looks the obvious choice

12. HISTORIC DAY – 5th of 13, a place behind HAS DE CAMBES (13), in a 2200m Caen Class D a month ago. Makes just 2nd appearance at the venue but consistently gives his best and can pick up a small slice of the pie

13. HAS DE CAMBES – 4th of 13 in a 2200m Caen Class D a month ago. Has been a case of all-or-nothing at Vincennes though and a minor place chance at best

14. HERA WIND – Sanctioned in a 2850m Parilly Class F on 22 September. Is plainly at top of her game and François Lagadeuc will be eager to capitalise on the fine entry

Summary: As adept in one code as the other, and winner over 2850m on his only Vincennes appearance, FIGHTER SIMONI (11) is back under harness after freshening up at Cabourg and with Alexandre Abrivard reining, will not be easily bested. That said, the well-engaged HERA WIND (14) won 3 on the trot before coming a cropper in Lyon, and will be no pushover. Reassuring last time out, and already a winner under these conditions, G.K.JUSTUS (9) will be fully fit and, with application, can play an active role. Useful at home in his native Finland, MASK OFF (FIN) (10) races first-time barefoot, for a new trainer, and will be expected to give a competitive account.

SELECTIONS

C2 – PRIX ASPASIA – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Class C Race – Harness – EUR € 46,000

1. KALINKA CASTELETS – Has previously imposed over course and distance but below-par 6th of 14 behind KNITULIA (9) in a 2100m Class D here on 13 September, and even racing barefoot is not an obvious choice

2. KYOKA BOCNEUF – Made it 2 in a row when successful in a 2850m Meslay Class B on 2 September. Has little chance of pulling off the hat-trick but with Eric Raffin reining, will be afforded every chance

3. KASSANDRA WIND – Kicked the year off well but has since disappointed, latterly 7th of 14 behind KNITULIA (9) in a 2100m Class D here on 13 September, and must raise her game

4. KALINE DU JOUR – Got back in the game when chasing KHAMSA (6) home in a 2850m Class D here late last month. Has twice won over track and trip but in this company, looks more a minor place prospect

5. KANAILLE DES ECUS – Reassuring 4th of 15 in a 2150m Enghien Class D last week. Showed significant aptitude last season and should now be in a position to give this a good go. Place prospect

6. KHAMSA – Has not once disappointed in current configuration, winning last 3, latterly a 2850m Class D here late-September. Will have no issues with the distance and is eminently capable of taking her game to the next level

7. KINDY PERRINE – Finished 13th of 14 in a 2775m Craon Class D 3.5 weeks ago, on first start back. Has ability but is still being conditioned and best to hold off

8. KULTA – Won over course and distance early last month before faulting, when in the running for a cheque, in a 2175m Class C here month ago. Seldom disappoints when applied and should not be underestimated

9. KNITULIA – Missed out by little in a 2100m Class D on 13 September. Has been as dependable as they come and makes her 2700m Vincennes bow with a good hand to play

10. KEMILLA DE BRION – Sanctioned, when unsupported, in a 2175m Gr.2 here mid-August. Shod for re-entry and others easier to back this time

11. KOURGA DE LOU – Should not be hastily-judged for being sanctioned in a Class D over course and distance 2 months ago. Reverts to a successful formula and will be expected to give KOMERE DE CORDAY (16) a run for her money

12. KELLY JANE – 8th of 13 finishers, when being conditioned, in a 2800m Cordemais Class B earlier in the month. Stays shod and best to wait

13. KAROLINE CALINE – Has 3 runs under her belt, most recently 10th of 14 in a 2750m Class B at Les Sables-d’Olonne on 6 September. Shod to preference for first objective of new season and must be worth retaining

14. KAMILLE D’AUTHISE – Last but one in a Class C over course and distance late last month. Sports a new configuration but is preparing for campaign under the saddle and can be passed over

15. KAGNOTTE D’AZIF – Serious filly but has not been seen out since winning a 2175m monté Class D here mid-May. Shoes on for comeback and others preferred

16. KOMERE DE CORDAY – Sent for a short spell after winning a 2875m Enghien Class D with ease mid-August. Comes here fresh, barefoot, and in with a realistic shout

Summary: Terrifically-entered at the limit of earnings, KOMERE DE CORDAY (16) makes her main-track debut on a 4-timer and, unbeaten with Mathieu Mottier, can pull it off. She will still face resistance from the classy KOURGA DE LOU (11) who returns to racing with front pads fitted after her recent sanction, and KHAMSA (6) who secured her own hat-trick over 2850m here late last month. Léo Abrivard takes over from his brother on the consistent KNITULIA (9) who is plainly close to her race.

SELECTIONS
KOMERE DE CORDAY (16) – KOURGA DE LOU (11) – KHAMSA (6) – KNITULIA (9)
C3 – PRIX GUDRUN – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Class B Race – Harness – EUR € 60,000

1. KATE MESLOISE – 5th to KILL JOY LADY (6) here before repeating in a Class D over course and distance late last month. Unlikely to cause an upset but appreciates 2700m here and is unlikely to disappoint

2. JAMAICA BROWN – Put away after winning under these conditions last winter. Last of 15, on re-entry, in a 2850m Class C here a week ago, but is still in conditioning mode and best to wait

3. JOURNEE REVEE – 4th of 13 in a Class C over course and distance on 22 September. Steps up in category, but consistently gives her best, and can play a part

4. KISS ME HONEY – Sent for a break after being sanctioned in a 2100m Class C here late-June. Has bags of ability but with shoes on this time can be passed over

5. KOUFRA IRIS’EYES – 10th of 14 when preparing for this in a 2800m Class B at Le Croisé-Laroche on 2 October. Hind shoes off this time and has already won for Franck Nivard. First 5

6. KILL JOY LADY – Flew up over course and distance last month before being sanctioned at start of a 2850m Class B here a fortnight ago. Benjamin Rochard gets the nod and looks to be reining a serious contender

7. KILLER QUEEN – Sanctioned in last two, latterly a 2950m Toulouse Class B 3 weeks ago. Ran 3rd in a Gr.2 over track and trip last time reined by Eric Raffin, and will be dangerous if he keeps her trotting

8. JAMAICA D’AURCY – Useful but complicated mare making first appearance since faulting in a 2875m Enghien Class A last April. Shoes on and no threat

9. JANE AIMEE – 4th to JEANNETTE PRIORY (11) at Cherbourg before faulting in a 2850m Parilly Class C last week, and others easier to back

10. KALMIA PERRINE – 6th of 11, on return from a long layoff, in a 2850m Class B at Meslay-du-Maine on 2 October.  Has nothing to prove at this level and has every chance of opening her 2024 account

11. JEANNETTE PRIORY – Made it 2 straight when dominating a 2600m Cherbourg Class B on 25 September. Has a particular liking for 2700m here and will be competitive at the business end of the race

12. JAIN MAB – 2nd of 16 in a 2800m Rambouillet Class B 12 days ago, on just 2nd start back, and will not be far off the mark if Anthony Barrier keeps her trotting

13. JADE D’AMOUR – Tough mare in both codes but races shod for return to competition and will not be over-taxed

Summary: After a well-earned break, Thierry Duvaldestin’s faithful KALMIA PERRINE (10) made a respectable comeback at Meslay earlier in the month and, barefoot this time, can get straight down to business. She will still be up against the tricky but clearly-talented KILLER QUEEN (7) who has turned a corner over recent weeks, and KILL JOY LADY (6) who won over course and distance a month ago. JEANNETTE PRIORY (11) boasts solid references under these conditions and returns to Paris on a hat-trick.

SELECTIONS

C4 – PRIX THEMIS – 2850m (a2m) – Class C Race – Harness – EUR € 68,000

1. CALIGOLA LASER – Made up for Cherbourg sanction when 4th of 9 in a 2150m Enghien Class D 2.5 weeks ago. In this company though, will need to find more

2. IRINA D’ATOUT – Disappointing since returning from her break, latterly sanctioned in a monté Class E over course and distance 10 days ago. Is clearly capable but others easier to trust

3. LUCKY GUY BOKO – 5th of 11 in a 2100m Class E here a week ago. One of the more consistent horses in the field, he placed on lone start under these conditions, and even with an extra 25m to travel, can finish in the thick of things

4. IN EN VRIE – Good 3rd of 12 in a Class D over course and distance on 13 September. Mathieu Mottier reining this time and he will be eager to take advantage of front-line break

5. ICARE DE PHYT’S – Made it 4 in a row when successful in a 2875m Meslay-du-Maine Class D on 2 September. Has just once delivered here but in current form is too easy to like. Claim

6. ILLICO DES BAUX – 9th of 11, to ISOFOU DU CHENE (9), in a Class D over course and distance on 20 September, and even reverting to a previous formula, is not about to shake things up

7. IF YOU CAN – 11th of 15, when preparing for this, in a 2800m Rambouillet Class E mid-September. Shod as he was when placing under these conditions last winter, but still not a top-tier choice

8. INDIEN DE FONTAINE – Should not be too hastily-judged for coming last of 7 in a 2950m Vichy Class D mid-September. Is clearly in shape and has form here, but cannot be considered a priority

9. ISOFOU DU CHENE – Ran 2nd over track and trip on re-entry before winning a Class D under similar conditions a month ago and, despite the handicap, still looks a major player

10. HERE WE GO – Quality campaigner that returned from his layoff 2 weeks ago, coming 11th of 13, to IBISCUS MAN (11), in a Class B over course and distance. Is still being conditioned however and best to keep one’s powder dry

11. IBISCUS MAN – Ran 3rd in a Cherbourg Gr.3 last month before winning a Class B over course and distance 2 weeks ago. Will not be barefoot this time but can still get in on the action

12. GABIANO – 7th of 9 in a 2175m monté Class B here 2.5 weeks ago. Here for a change of scenery and can be disregarded

13. GRINDELWALD – Ran 5th behind HEDIC GEMA (14) mid-September before coming last of 11 behind her again a fortnight later in a 2700m Class D. Has solid references over track and trip though and should not be written off

14. HEDIC GEMA – Fine class of trotter that would arguably have finished closer than his 3rd of 11 in a Class C over course and distance 2.5 weeks ago had he not faulted early, and Benjamin Rochard will be keen to set the record straight

Summary: It’s a tussle between the front and back lines here but preference nonetheless goes to ICARE DE PHYT’S (5) who returns to Paris on a 5-timer, and who enjoys a 25m advantage over HEDIC GEMA (14) who has been on a roll since the spring. ISOFOU DU CHENE (9) took no time getting back in the game following his 5 months’ layoff and legitimately takes his chances in this category. IN EN VRIE (4) may not have had a break for over a year but he is still firing on all cylinders and, from the front row, deserves to take his chances.

SELECTIONS
ICARE DE PHYT’S (5) – HEDIC GEMA (14) – ISOFOU DU CHENE (9) – IN EN VRIE (4)
C5 – PRIX OPHIUCUS – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Class A Race – Harness – EUR € 62,000

1. LISBONNE DRY – 3rd of 7 in a monté Gr.2 here on 13 September. Has other priorities and can be passed over

2. LERIKA DU CHENE – Handy filly that ran 5th of 12 behind LARA DU GOUTIER (4), on comeback, in a 2750m Craon Class B on 23 September. Will have progressed and should not disappoint

3. LOVE GLORY – Good 2nd of 11 in a 2850m Vincennes Class C over the inner course here early last month. Ran 3rd on lone start over main track and will have her supporters

4. LARA DU GOUTIER – Surprise 2nd of 12, on first start since the break, in a 2750m Rambouillet Class B on 23 September. Sports pads this time but has placed just once in 4 under these conditions and others preferred

5. LAMIE DU MESNIL – 3rd of 12 in a 2750m Rambouillet Class B on 23 September. Has decent form over course and distance but seems to be biting off more than she can chew

6. LUMINOUS STAR – Ran 8th of 12 behind LARA DU GOUTIER (4), on return to racing, in a 2750m Craon Class B on 23 September. Looked good that day, will have come on for the run, and is unlikely to be far from the action

7. LA DIVA SUPREME – Justifiably well-regarded filly that lost her action early in a 2600m Cherbourg Class B on 25 September. Has buckets of ability and Alexandre Abrivard will be eager to set the record straight

8. LUNGA DES BROUSSES – Ran 3rd over track and trip before finishing a one-paced 9th of 11, behind LA STAR ROC (12), in a 2600m Cherbourg Class B on 25 September, and not easy to recommend

9. LAKARA – Last of 10 finishers in a 2800m Rambouillet Class B, when preparing for this, 12 days ago. Sports 4 pads for just 2nd time and has a realistic chance of making first 3

10. LILI DRY – 6th of 11, behind LA STAR ROC (12), in a 2600m Cherbourg Class B on 25 September. Pads fitted this time but has not done enough to inspire confidence

11. LIPANGA DE GUEZ – Unlucky to be sanctioned in a Class A over course and distance early last month. Has been given time to recalibrate and can make amends if Nicolas Bazire keeps her out of trouble

12. LA STAR ROC – 2nd of 11, at 88/1, in a 2600m Cherbourg Class B on 25 September however, in this event, will need to find more

13. LUNABELLA D’OMAHA – Made it 4 wins from 5 when comfortably winning a Class B over course and distance 3 weeks ago. Is plainly a filly for the future and should be able to wrap this up

Summary: A remarkable filly with hardly a blot on her copybook, LUNABELLA D’OMAHA (13) is unbeaten over course and distance and steps up in category with every chance of continuing her successful ways. Leading the opposition is the complicated LA DIVA SUPREME (7) who will have a lot to contribute if she gets off on the right foot, and the padded LAKARA (9) who faces her first goal of the autumn. LIPANGA DE GUEZ (11) is never far from faulting but she showed her form here last time and, with application, can be expected to contest the finish.

SELECTIONS
LUNABELLA D’OMAHA (13) – LA DIVA SUPREME (7) – LAKARA (9) – LIPANGA DE GUEZ (11)
C6 – PRIX CYANE – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Class B Race – Mounted – EUR € 52,000

1. LATINA DE TILOU – Trounced the opposition first time out, winning a 2175m Class D here by a country mile on 10 September. In better company this time but still looks capable of maintaining her unbeaten status

2. LARA DU LERRE – Sanctioned in a 2700m harness Class D at Le Croisé-Laroche early this month and appears to have a mountain to climb

3. LA SEGNORA PIYA – Opened her account on 1 October, winning a 2200m Class D here with consummate ease. Takes a notable step up in category but, if still on the boil, will not be far off the mark

4. LOU D’ECROVILLE – Did not enjoy the best of trips when 3rd of 4 in a Class D under these conditions a month ago but can still expect to remain friendless

5. LEIA PRINCESS – 7th of 10 in a 2700m harness Class B here 3 weeks ago, having run 2nd to LATINA DE TILOU (1) on monté debut, last month. Has a lot of ground to make up though and others preferred

6. LEONA DU GITE – Unraced since pulling off the hat-trick mid-August, comfortably winning a 2875m Enghien Class D. Similarly-shod for return to the track and will generate some interest

7. LIO RENKA – Makes first appearance since finishing 6th of 8 in a 2200m Gr.3 here last February and will need the run

8. LEMPICKA SEPT – Secured the hat-trick when dominating a 2875m Enghien Class D mid-August. Comes here fresh, shod for competition, and looks main danger to LATINA DE TILOU (1)

9. LA LAGOSTERIA – Sent for a rest after brilliantly opening her account here last June. Finished last of 10 in a 2700m harness Class B here on re-entry 3 weeks ago, but returns to the discipline with a lot to contribute

10. LONG ISLAND – Pleased twice on main track before running 3rd of 11 in a 2150m Enghien harness Class C lass week. Mathieu Mottier has maintained faith and looks competitive for a spot on the podium

11. LILIEME FOR CLARA – Has not been seen out since finishing 5th of 7 in a Gr.3 over course and distance in June. Sports pads for comeback though, has been entrusted to Eric Raffin for first time, and must be considered a decent first-5 chance

12. LOVELY CHENEVIERE – Sanctioned after losing her action early in a harness Class B over course and distance late last month. Ran 2nd under these conditions before the break and, if sufficiently fit, can play an active role

Summary: After a remarkable debut over shorter here last month, LATINA DE TILOU (1) returns to the venue with a better idea of the job at hand and has the class to impose. Anne Barthélemy will still want to be wary of Vincennes debutante LEMPICKA SEPT (8) who has not been bested in three appearances under the saddle, and the progressive LA LAGOSTERIA (9) who returns to the discipline after a much-needed freshener under harness. LONG ISLAND (10) has been knocking at the door under harness lately and the addition of front pads will do her no disservice on first public appearance in the code.

SELECTIONS

C7 – PRIX LOUIS CAUCHOIS – 2200m (a1m1/2) – Gr3 Race – Harness – EUR € 54,000

1. MACAREUX DU TRIEUX – 3rd over course and distance before losing his action early behind MARSHAL DE CELLAND (9) in race of reference. Eric Raffin stays faithful but still appears to have too much to do

2. MIX D’ERONVILLE – 2nd to MARATHON MAN (5) over track and trip a month ago before trailing in 6th to MARSHAL DE CELLAND (9) in a 2175m Class A here on 1 September, and can be confidently passed over

3. MISTRAL DU GOUTIER – Excellent in first 3 before finishing last but one behind MARSHAL DE CELLAND (9) in race of reference, and is unlikely to influence the result

4. MAGICO DE LOU – In the frame in first 3 before being sanctioned early in 1 September race of reference, but Matthieu Abrivard will be loathe to let the same thing happen again. First 5

5. MARATHON MAN – Fine winner over course and distance before running 3rd to MARSHAL DE CELLAND (9) in a 2175m Class A here on 1 September. Perhaps not the winning horse but still has a realistic chance of making first 3

6. MAGNUM DU CHOQUEL – Capable colt that finished a valiant 4th to MARSHAL DE CELLAND (9) in a 2175m Class A here on 1 September. Not about to cause an upset but can still compete for a first-5 payout

7. MONZON NORMAND – Left a good impression, on return to competition, when 2nd of 8 to MARSHAL DE CELLAND (9) in race of reference. Will have come on for the run and can make a big splash if he takes to the 2200m profile

8. MAESTRO VRIE – Got off the mark at Enghien before holding off pair of challenges to win a 2100m Class B here early-September. Has had time to recuperate and will be expected to give MARSHAL DE CELLAND (9) a run for his money

9. MARSHAL DE CELLAND – Made it 3 for 3 when winning a 2175m Class A here, with authority, on 1 September and has the wherewithal to keep the victory train moving forward

Summary: Easy winner of his first 2, MARSHAL DE CELLAND (9) was simply superb over the main track here earlier in the month and looks a marginally better option than the hat-trick seeking MAESTRO VRIE (8) who made short work of a 2100m Class B here early last month. Second and third respectively to Franck Nivard’s colt here recently, MONZON NORMAND (7) and MARATHON MAN, (5) must be treated with respect, the latter having already won under these conditions.

SELECTIONS
MARSHAL DE CELLAND (9) – MAESTRO VRIE (8) – MONZON NORMAND (7) – MARATHON MAN (5)
C8 – PRIX MARCEL DEJEAN – 2200m (a1m1/2) – Gr3 Race – Harness – EUR € 54,000

1. MARBOXIE D’HERIPRE – Sanctioned in last three metropolitan starts, most recently a 2150m Enghien Class C 2.5 weeks ago, and can be ruled out

2. MANANA JEF – Has not been seen out since coming 4th of 9 to MELODY COOL (10) in a Class D over track and trip 3 months ago and is expected to be race-rusty

3. MUSCADE LEMAN – In the frame in first 3 before faulting early in 1 September race of reference. Has evident ability but will need to bring her A-game this time

4. MARBELLA – Made short work of a Class C over course and distance on 20 September. Is quite plainly a group-class filly and has every chance of notching up her first black-type success

5. MARINA ELLIS – Well-beaten last of 3 in race of reference and in this class is not about to spring a surprise

6. MAYA BEE – Put Enghien blip behind her when winning a 2100m Vincennes Class B on 5 September. Put in quite the finish that day and can repeat if she stays focused

7. MORALITY – Won in style over 2175m here late-August before faulting in a Class A under similar conditions on 1 September, but can play a dominant role if Julien Dubois keeps her trotting

8. MASSIVE ATTACK – Solid in all 4 starts to date, latterly 2nd of 5, ahead of stablemate MELODY COOL (10), in a Class A over course and distance on 24 September. Unlikely to get off the mark but has good speed and is not to be overlooked

9. MAGGY JENILOU – Good 2nd of 3 finishers, behind MELODY COOL (10), in a 2175m Class A here on 1 September. Has already won for Alexandre Abrivard and will be no easy touch if she gets off on the right foot

10. MELODY COOL – Has not put a foot wrong since July debut, most recently winning a 2175m Class A here on 1 September. Is proven over the 2200m course and is thoroughly capable of imposing

Summary: After a pair of solid starts in the provinces to get her acquainted with the game, MARBELLA (4) subsequently dominated on last month’s Vincennes debut and looks good enough to double her money. She will however be pitted against the progressive MAYA BEE (6) who left a very good impression over the main track last time out, and Philppe Allaire’s MELODY COOL (10) who ran 3rd over course and distance before winning over the main track early this month. Sanctioned that day after having flown up here a month earlier, MORALITY (7) is not one to be underestimated.

4. LUEGO CONTIGO – Disqualified in his first two starts but was a winner last time out in Class F at this track over 2300m on 2 October. Should be a serious threat if smart again

5. LILLY DE GOUYE – Unreliable and was disqualified at Nimes on 6 October. Probably needfs to find a few lengths to win

6. LIBERTANGO – Has lost his way of late and was disqualified last time out at Chartres on 13 September. Capable of better but others are preferred

8. LUPIN DU BOURG – Yet to win a race and was 5th last time out in Class F at Nimes over 2750m on 6 October. More is needed to win

9. LEADER RASTID – Has some fair form of late and was fourth last time out in Class E over this track and trip on 21 September. Needs to do a bit more to beat these rivals

10. LESLEY ARCTIC – Has struggled of late and was 8th last time out in Class D at Hyeres over 2850m on 4 October. Others are preferred

11. LORD LA GAUCHERIE – Yet to win a race and was 5th last time out in Class D at this course over 2300m on 4 October. Others are preferred

2. MISTER PRESIDENT – Won a 2100m Toulouse maiden in April but flattered to deceive in 3 subsequent starts – the latest (10th) on his handicap debut over 2000m at Saint-Cloud on 27 September

3. CEDRUS – Consistent performer with sound form references/credentials, including a win and a 3rd in 2 outings over this track and trip. Pleasing 5th on his return from a 4-month absence at Vichy (1850m) on 23 September

4. RAIMONDIN – Winner over 1950m at Châteaubriant in July but unplaced in consecutive/subsequent Quinte+ handicaps, the latest (10th) over 1800m at Chantilly on 21 September. Should fare better in these calmer waters

5. LA DO RE – Improving last-start winner who opened her account in a 2400m maiden at Saint-Cloud on 6 September. Open to further progress

6. SISTERLAND – Consistent performer with sound references at this level. Unplaced (7th) in a 2000m Listed race last month but didn’t go unnoticed when finishing 5th over 2000m at Salon-de-Provence on 30 September

Summary: After an encouraging much-needed comeback outing over an inadequate shorter distance, CEDRUS (3) seems the most likely winner of this even given the favourable conditions. However, top-rated WILD HORSES (1) acquitted himself well in a better race/field at Vichy last time and will also appreciate heavy ground so he should pose a threat. Last-start winner LA DO RE (5) is open to further progress and her chances aren’t/shouldn’t be underestimated, especially with Alexis Pouchin in the irons.

C5 – PRIX DE L’ESSOR – 2200m (a1m1/2) – TURF – Maiden Race – Flat – EUR € 17,000

1. IT’S EAGLE – Would’ve come on appreciably from his debut 7th (of 12) over 2100m at Strasbourg on 6 October. Can get into the picture

2. GUARDIAN – Improved to finish 2nd in consecutive recent outings over 2400m, the latest at this track on 17 September. Needn’t improve a great deal in first-time headgear to open his account

3. KRASHA – Has acquitted herself well in defeat in 2 starts on French soil, the latest (5th) over 1800m at Dieppe when last seen on 27 August. Supplemented for this engagement so cannot be taken lightly

4. L’OREE DES BLAISES – Failed to build on the encouragement of her debut 4th at Divonne when only 6th over 2500m at Nancy on 29 September. Improvement needed

5. HELLO SWEETY – Made no impression in either start, finishing 13thy on debut at Clairefontaine and 8th with blinkers fitted (dispensed with here) over 2000m at Saint-Cloud on 20 September. Hard to make a case for

6. HIGH WAY – Unplaced in all 8 appearances and has finished 6th on 6 occasions, including 3 each of her last starts – the latest over 2450m at Cluny on 13 April. Others preferred

7. JOUR D’ETE – Soundly beaten (11th) on debut at Saint-Cloud over 2000m on 20 September. Best just to watch for now

8. RAIATEA – Showed a willing and professional attitude when finishing a good 3rd on debut in a competitive race/field at Compiegne over 2400m on 25 September. Likely improver who warrants the utmost respect

9. ARROWHEAD – Patrice Cottier-trained National Défense colt out of a Group I-winning dam. Candidate for success on debut under Hugo Besnier

10. MARY KELLY – Well-bred Dariyan filly to be ridden on debut by Tony Piccone for trainer Xavier Blanchet. Not taken lightly

Summary: Narrowly beaten in back-to-back recent outings over 2400m, GUARDIAN (2) is good value to open his account here, especially in first-time headgear that could eke out sufficient improvement. Well-bred newcomer ARROWHEAD (9) needn’t be special to pose a threat on debut and begins with legitimate ambitions. RAIATEA (8) and KRASHA (3) have shown enough to make their presence felt too, while MARY KELLY (10) is another attractively bred debutante whose chances are dangerous to discount.

C6 – PRIX DES VENDANGES – 2800m (a2m) – TURF – Class 4 Race – Flat – EUR € 14,000

1. GOLD PALACE – Soundly beaten in 3 consecutive recent appearances, the latest (9th) in a 2800m Saint-Cloud handicap on 4 October. Very effective on heavy ground so could fare better here off a lower mark

2. SOULOU MALPIC – Lacks references over this distance but ran well in defeat when 5th over 3000m at Craon on 23 September. Candidate for success

3. HE’S A ROCK STAR – Out-of-sorts veteran who finished 2nd in a 2400m claimer at Divonne on 1 September. Disqualified since at Nancy on 29 September

4. THE ROOM – Finished a well-beaten 12th in a 2800m Saint-Cloud handicap on 4 October. Seldom far off the mark on a going day but is best watched for now

5. SEMILLANTE – Bounced back to form with a reassuring 3rd in a 2800m Moulins handicap on 26 August and should have a role to play here if confirming that form/improvement. Has a win and 3rd in 2 visits to this racecourse

6. WHIP DRALLIV – An 11-start maiden with sound references/form credentials in handicaps, including a last-start 4th over 1900m at Bordeaux on 13 October. Place chance

7. SANCHO – Hard-knocking veteran who seldom finishes far off the mark in handicaps at this level. Shouldn’t be hastily condemned for his last-start 7th on this course over 2400m on 17 September

8. SIXTINE BAAL – A 13-start maiden (placed once) who finished a well-beaten 10th in a 2400m Vichy handicap on 24 July. Others preferred

9. RUE D’ALBRET – Finished an encouraging 3rd over 3000m at Vichy in May and returned to form when 3rd again at Argentan over 2100m on 26 August. Should play a leading role

10. MOKO – Out-of-sorts veteran mare with references in handicaps off a higher mark – seldom finishes far off the mark on a going day. Unplaced (8th) in a 3000m Vichy handicap on 24 September but has been dropped 1kg

Summary: SOULOU MALPIC (2) has done little wrong since resuming and offers the most guarantees of the 10 runners in this race. RUE D’ALBRET (9) runs for new connections but has already proven her efficiency/competitiveness over this distance, so she could threaten the selection. Consistent veteran mare SEMILLANTE (5) and enigmatic GOLD PALACE (1), effective on heavy ground, are also competitive for a podium berth. MOKO (10) appeals most of the remainder.

1. PETERHOF – Hold-up type with formidable acceleration. Didn’t have the race run to suit when 10th at Compiegne in a 1400m handicap on 25 September but shouldn’t be hastily condmened – keep safe

2. HURRICANE LIGHT – Proven on heavy ground and is regaining momentum – confirmed as much by finishing 4th off his current mark in a 1400m Compiegne handicap on 11 October. Not taken lightly

3. TOPINAMBUR – Hard-knocking veteran who seldom finishes far off the mark in handicaps at this level. Shouldn’t be hastily condemned for his last-start 6th in a 1400m Compiegne handicap on 11 October

4. TURTLE CHOPE – Won twice on this course last year under Maxime Guyon, with whom she is reunited. Shouldn’t be hastily condemned for disappointing recent performances, the latest (12th) over track and trip on 17 September

5. TRIESTE – Blows hot and cold but has the undeniable means to fight for victory in a race of this ilk, especially on the evidence of her course-and-distance 2nd on 17 September. The horse to beat

6. BALAGAN – Out of sorts and continues to drop in the weights/ratings after a long losing run/unplaced performances, the latest (10th) in a 2000m PSF handicap at Marseille-Vivaix on 9 October. For another day

7. KISS QUEEN – Experienced out-of-sorts handicapper although seldom far off the mark on a going day. Unplaced (7th) in a 2150m PSF handicap at Lyon-La Soie on 4 October. Best watched for now

8. ELLECOEUR DRALLIV – An 18-start maiden – placed once – who finished a well-beaten 8th in a 1900m Bordeaux handicap recently (13 October). Others preferred

9. SOIZIYA – Yet to find the frame in 18 appearances and is unlikely to trouble the judge on her return to the flat after an unsuccessful attempt over hurdles at Fontainebleau on 5 October. Can be ignored

Summary: TRIESTE (5) was far from disgraced last time in a better race/field over a distance short of her best and she is good value to set the record straight. Despite her recent failures, TURTLE CHOPE (4) retains the means to redeem herself by fighting for victory, especially with Maxime Guyon aboard. PETERHOF (1), efficient on this track, and HURRICANE LIGHT (2), who will get ground to suit, are also competitive for the podium.

3. KALIFE ALAPLACE – In good form and has been runner-up twice in last three times including last time out in a handicap at Vichy over 2000m on 23 September. Can contest the finish this distance

4. SIMANCAS – Not disgraced when 6th last time out in a handicap at Compiegne over 1400m on 25 September. Has a winning chance off this current mark

5. MI C’INFILO – In fair forma ndwas 5th last time out in a handicap at Saint-Cloud over 1600m on 14 October. Likes this ground and should make a bold bid at scoring

6. ESSAI TRANSFORME – Better over shorter but was not disgraced when 5th last time out in a handicap at compiegne over 1400m on 25 September. Capable of making the frame

7. LOKI – Did not show his best when 8th last time out in a handicap at Marseille-Borély over 1700m on 28 September. In good form before that and has a place chance

8. SINNDARILLO – Disappointing form of late and was 8th last time out in a handicap at this course over 1350m on 29 September. Capable of playing a minor role

9. SUNSHINEFLED – Did not show her best when 7th last time out in a handicap at Angers over 1350m on 30 September. Needs to do a bit more to win

10. LORLISALSA – Likes this track and was third last time out in a handicap over this course and distance on 17 September. Clearly not out of it

Summary: MI C’INFILO (5) wouldn’t be winning out of turn and is worth chancing in a race of this kind, especially on heavy ground which will serve his interests. Dangerous off her current mark and with in-form Maryline Eon aboard, SIMANCAS (4) is best equipped to challenge the selection for race honors. Versatile KALIFE ALAPLACE (3), with the benefit of his talented apprentice’s weight allowance, and Lyon-Parilly track specialist LORLISALSA (10) also have the means to play leading roles.
