Fine Form
Dyrholaey SO – 1.42
can make a successful start to his 2025 campaign in the Weekly £5 Free Bet With BetUK Handicap at Southwell.
The four-year-old won his first three starts on the all-weather for Archie Watson, prompting powerhouse owners Wathnan Racing to secure his services prior a planned outing at Royal Ascot last summer.
He was ultimately well beaten in the Palace of Holyrood House Stakes, however, and was not seen again until reappearing on a Monday night at Wolverhampton in late December.
A hot favourite to make a triumphant return, Dyrholaey had to make do with minor honours in third, but it was not a bad effort on his first start since being gelded and he should improve for the run.
Running over the same six-furlong trip in Nottinghamshire, Watson’s charge should prove hard to beat.
Improving mare
Caramay SO – 1.12
looks well placed to continue her excellent run of form in the Weekly £5 Free Bet With BetUK Handicap.
Trained in partnership by William Muir and Chris Grassick, the daughter of Lethal Force has won five of her last eight starts and has gone up 22lb in the weights as a result.
Two of those victories have come at Southwell and she returns on a hat-trick after following up a dominant Wolverhampton success with a determined display here a week later.
While the winning margin was only half a length that day, she won with enough authority to suggest her winning streak might not be over just yet.
Evening all-weather fare comes from Chelmsford, where
Diamont Katie CC – 6.00
looks a solid betting proposition in the Bet Boost At bet365 Fillies’ Novice Stakes.
The Middleham Park Racing team went to £68,000 to secure this Acclamation filly as a yearling and she has presumably taken time to find her feet as she was unraced as a juvenile.
She eventually made her debut for Karl Burke at Southwell a couple of weeks ago and was spotted making some late progress to finish fourth, beaten only two and a half lengths in total at the line.
With improvement expected, she can make the journey from North Yorkshire to Essex worthwhile.
The Richard Hughes-trained
Samra Star CC – 8.00
has enough ability to give weight and a beating to her rivals in the bet365 Handicap.
The Wolverhampton novice winner has a tendency to over-race, which is slightly hampering her progress.
She was fitted with a hood for the first time back at Wolverhampton a few weeks ago and while she was again keener than ideal, she still managed to finish third, which is testament to her latent talent.
If she can learn to switch off, and Rossa Ryan might be just the man to help her do so as he takes the reins for the first time, she could prove better than her current mark of 81.
Don’t Mind If Do WC – 1.15
is rated the best bet over the jumps at Wincanton.
The five-year-old was unfortunate to bump into a couple of above average rivals on his first two starts, finishing second to Regent’s Stroll on his bumper debut at Newbury before pushing Castle Ivers close on his first start over hurdles at Warwick in November.
He duly delivered on that promise when landing cramped odds over this course and distance last month, coming home with 15 lengths in hand, and he looks more than capable of defying the mandatory penalty for Alan King before being stepped up in class.
