SKYE BREEZE – 1.12 Southwell (NAP)
SKYE BREEZE could be up to the task of defying top weight in the Weekly £5 Free Bet With BetUK Handicap at Southwell. Ed Bethell’s six-year-old has a very tidy all-weather strike-rate of 4-10 and that includes a course and distance win last January, after which he followed up off a mark of 78 at Newcastle. Back down to that same mark now, he’s able to sneak in at the top of this 0-78 Class 4 handicap and there was loads to like about the way he shaped on his return from a layoff in a stronger grade here last month. He travelled kindly before looking to get a little tight for room when possibly feeling the effects of not having a recent run. He got his second wind close home and stayed on encouragingly so he looks poised to strike on Thursday.
GOOD BOY BOBBY – 2.55 Wincanton
With question marks over Bill Baxter (long time since that Topham win) and Montgomery (ran no sort of race at Haydock), this could boil down to a battle between Ioupy Collonges, Pedley Wood and GOOD BOY BOBBY. Preference is for the latter, who is thoroughly exposed these days but loves nothing more than a proper slog in the mud and has maintained a good level of consistency in defeat this season. The last run, when third to Some Scope in the Rowland Meyrick, was a very solid effort in the context of this race and he gets another chance off the same mark (131), which is 4lb lower than when successful at Sandown last winter.
MIGGY MAGIC – 7.00 Chelmsford
MIGGY MAGIC looks to have been treated more than fairly by the handicapper, having only gone up 1lb for his half-length second to the really well-treated Castan at Southwell last week. The four-year-old son of Dark Angel has appreciated a switch to sprinting since joining this yard after running over further for previous connections and if the addition of a tongue-tie has the desired effect then he should take all the beating his first visit to Chelmsford.
