R1 DEAUVILLE [R-H]

C1 – PRIX DE BALME – 1900m (a1m1/4) – ALL WEATHER – Maiden – Flat – EUR € 16,500

  1. CASH RULER – Finished 13th in a Handicap over 2100m at Pornichet on 14 December. Recent form is not good and is best overlooked
  2. BOLKHOV – A moderate 8th in a Claimer over 1900m at this course on 23 December. That was his debut run and he should come on from there
  3. BAILEYS ROCK – A poor 14th in a Maiden over this course and distance on 17 December. Looks unlikely to have any impact on this field
  4. INMATE – A convincing 2nd in a Conditions race over 1900m at this track on 9 January. With natural improvement he should be right there at the finish
  5. ART PIECE – Ran 4th in a Conditions race over 1900m at this track on 9 January. He finished between INMATE (4) and TAKEO (6) in that race and is definitely one to watch
  6. TAKEO – Finished 5th in a Conditions race over 1900m at this track on 9 January. He made most of the pace before fading late and could have more to come
  7. SAUCEPOT – An excellent 2nd in a Maiden over 1600m at Clairefontaine on 8 August. That was a promising debut run and even though she has been off for five months she should be up to the task
  8. INTENTION BORGET – A moderate 10th in a Conditions race at Pornichet on 19 January. Will need to up her game to feature.
  9. IRISH QUEEN – Finished 10th in a Conditions race over 2500m at this course on 22 January. She is dropping both in class and distance which could suit her
  10. KATANA DES ROCS – Disappointing when 8th in a Conditions race over 2700m at Chantilly on 10 January. The drop in trip could help but she will need to do a lot more
    Summary: SAUCEPOT (7) looked good when runner-up in a Maiden on her debut last August. The form of the race looks strong and although coming back from a lengthy break she could be hard to oppose in this event. INMATE (4) is another who finished second on debut run and further improvement is expected. He finished ahead of both TAKEO (6) and ART PIECE (5) in that race but they look to be the best of the rest.

  16. OTERO – Colt by Kendargent out of Teofilo mare Pagaille trained by Fabrice Chappet. Second foal and full brother has one win from 7 starts

  22. VERY PRETTY – Filly by New Bay out of Zoffany mare Pretty Women trained by Carlos and Yann Lerner. Half-sister to Pretty Queen who has two of her three starts for these trainers
  23. NYMPHEAS – Filly by Saxon Warrior out of Kingman mare King’s Girl trained by Stephanie Nigge. Her Granddam won a Listed race in the UK. She could have a few gears
  24. ROSE GREEN – Filly by Kodi Bear out of Dansili mare Bristol Fashion trained by Ludovic Gadbin. She is a half-sister to Cribbs Causeway who placed twice in a Grade 3 races in the UK
  25. ACME – Filly by Al Wukair out of Shamardal mare Coif trained by Thibaut Richard. Second foal to race
  26. LIONESSA – Filly by Fearless King out of Desert Prince mare Lili Moon trained by Karoly Kerekes. Fourth foal to race but only one winner so far
    Summary: In a field of unraced three-year-olds perhaps VERY PRETTY (12) has the best credentials as her half-sister is Pretty Queen, a winner of two starts from three outings. They are both trained by Carlos and Yann Lerner and could be precocious enough to get an early win. NYMPHEAS (13) has some promising breeding and is related to a Listed race winner. OTERO (6) had entries into some top two-year-old races so must be highly thought of. A top jockey has been engaged to ride ZARAMIX (9).

  28. MASSA CHOP – Did not show when 15th in a Handicap over this track and trip on 23 January. May not have enjoyed the ice-cold weather that day but will need to up his game
  29. KIEVSKY – A convincing 3rd in a Handicap over this track and trip on 23 January. In top form currently but could battle against DIRE LA VERITE (10) at the weights
  30. AMERICANO – Moderate when 11th in a Handicap over 2100m at Pornichet on 24 January. Will have more to do this time
  31. PROXIMA CENTAURI – A poor 16th in a Handicap over this course and distance on 23 January. He is better than that run but will need to improve on that effort
  32. FAMOSO – Did well to finish 4th in a Handicap over this course and distance on 23 January. He looked threatening in his last start and has more improvement to come
  33. BENIMARU – Looked good when 3rd in a Claimer over this course and distance on 29 December. He has come back to his best since returning to this track and the good form should continue
  34. HARRISON POINT – Ran 7th in a Conditions race over over this course and distance on 8 January. He is held by others on that run but did finish 2nd in his previous run at this track
  35. TREIZIEME MOIS – Finished 6th in a Handicap over 1800m at Lyon La Soie on 21 January. He could have place propects based on his penultimate performance
  36. DIRE LA VERITE – A close-up 2nd in a Conditions Qualifying Handicap over this course and distance on 8 January. He was narrowly beaten by KIEVSKY (3) in that race and is now 4kg better off
  37. MAIZIERES – A mediocre 6th in a Conditions race over 1500m at this course on 23 January. Another supplementary entry who ran well over this track and trip in December
  38. GRAND ANGEL – Finished 5th in a Handicap over 2500m at this course on 22 December. Ran 2nd in her penultimate start and has been supplemented into this race
  39. WINDBURN – Finished 9th in a Claimer over this course and distance on 29 December. Another who could run into the places
    Summary: This is quite an open event but the form does point to DIRE LA VERITE (10) who produced a powerful finish returning to the all-weather track, but just failed to get up. He ran close behind KIEVSKY (3) on that occasion and is now 4kg better off so should avenge that loss. BENIMARU (7) has run well at this track and could be dangerous while FAMOSO (6) should continue to improve.

  42. MRS HOLIDAY – Ran 10th in a Handicap over this track and trip on 9 January. She joins forces once again with the jockey who last won on her

  44. ELUSIVE FOOT – A decent 4th in a Handicap over this track and trip on 9 January. This is his best distance and he should run well
  45. ON LOCKDOWN – A mediocre 6th in a Handicap over this track and trip on 9 January. Another who could struggle to be competitive in this field
  46. FAVORY CHOP – Winner of the key race Handicap over this course and distance on 9 January. He did receive a five-pound penalty for the win but has the abilty to overcome that hurdle
  47. EN PLEIN AIR – A promising 5th in a Handicap over this track and trip on 18 December. That followed a 2nd place over this course and distance on 26 November and he will have Cristian Demuro up this time
  48. BARGING THRU – Ran well enough when 5th in a Handicap over this course and distance on 9 January. Does looks held by others on that run
  49. HAPPY AGAIN – A strong-finishing 3rd in a Handicap over this track and trip on 9January. At the weights could reverse the placings with those that finished ahead of him
  50. TREMBLANT – Finsihed 9th in a Handicap over this track and trip on 18 December. He was unsuited to the slow pace that day and will show vast improvement
  51. JUST IN TIME GAME – Finished 9th in a Conditions race over 1500m at this course on 23 January. Drops in distance but is another who runs well on this track
    Summary: An interesting Handicap with many runners having good course-and-distance form, but perhaps it is HAPPY AGAIN (10), who was running at them fastest of all over the final 200m, that could come out on top, especially with the weight turnaround. TIZIAN (1) loves this track and trip and must be considered for top honours. One also needs to keep an eye on consistent IRISHKAMAYA (4) as well as FAVORY CHOP (7), who won the key race but will have to overcome a penalty.

    Summary: ZARWALYAH (5) beat Iliannabella last time who has come out and broke her maiden at Cagnes-sur-Mer since. She is improving and can follow up with another victory. REVUELTO (11) is lightly raced with plenty of scope. He makes his handicap debut and with luck, he should pose a threat. THIBERVILLE (9) comes off a good third-place finish over this track and trip. He jumps from a good draw of two and cannot be discounted. FALOU CHOPE (2) is a winner of his last two starts and merits healthy respect.

    Summary: KORRAL AA (3) fell last time out on January 9th, but his previous second over this course and distance in December was a solid effort. He is preferred to KOBE DE LA BRUNIE AA (1), who beat him when they met in the December race. However, KOBE DE LA BRUNIE AA found the extra 700m a little too far when finishing second behind ISISDELAGARDE AA (2) on January 9th and should be more at home back down in trip today. JAMAILYA AA (6) is also worth considering.

  13. SUNNSHINE – Two runs on the flat, 6th on the latter over 2350m at Machecoul on November 11th in a Class 4 race. Hurdles debut and others preferred
  14. LOUANGE D’AINAY – Three unplaced runs so far, 8th over 3500m at this track in a Class 3 hurdle on January 3rd on the most recent. Looks safely held
    Summary: LE LABEL TIEP (2) showed plenty of promise when finishing fifth on his debut in a Class 2 hurdle at this track two weeks ago. He will have learned from that outing and looks capable of getting off the mark today. His main threat could be CITY LIFE (1), who was a pleasing second in a Class 2 hurdle at La Teste on his sole start in July 2024, although he does have a long absence to overcome. The main opposition is stationed 25m behind and it is hard to ignore the nicely-engaged JAMAICA BROWN (15) who won over course and distance, shod, in this category late last month. Although eliminated in his last 2, HYPER HAUFOR (13) is clearly in rude health and will have his chances if Christophe Bache keeps him focused. Already an amateur winner here this winter, ICONE PLANCHETTE (12) is reunited with Pauline Cavanie who imposed with her that day and must be considered a player.

    Summary: Somewhat circumspect on his monte debut in early-December, NORGUSSON ATALANTE (8) responded to a more aggressive ride over the inner course mid-month and can lose his maiden status if he takes to the main-track profile. Florian Desmigneux will still be mindful of Philippe Allaire’s NOSTRA VERO (6) who did everything right at Argentan recently, first time out.   49. MUST DE LOU – Debuts in the capital with a top pilot in the bike. Seldom lets the side down when focused and the new formula could just make all the difference
  50. MYSTIC HAUFOR – Eliminated in last 3, all of them here, but could well have imposed over course and distance mid-month had he kept his action together. Shoes back on and could well impose if kept focused
  51. MISTRAL DE JAUNOUX – Failed to confirm Argentan success when eliminated in a Mauquenchy Class F on 21 January. Returns to racing unshod-behind though and Alexis Collette will be eager to set the record straight
  52. MAGIC JOHN – As complicated as they come but has evident ability. Has struggled to make any impression at Vincennes however and others easier to back
  53. MALANDRINO – Complicated but talented element that lost his maiden status in style at Angers on 21 January. Will be competitively-shod for the first time and can wrap this up if he stays in stride
  54. MEGAFLO BELLO – Returned to competition in fine shape, claiming 2nd place in a Nantes Class F after the disqualification of MILZANO DU BOSSU (3). Hind shoes off this time and while not a priority, is still worth monitoring
    Summary: With just under half of the field sporting a fresh formula, this should prove a very interesting affair. A case in point, MALANDRINO (10) takes to the main track for the first time, after having imposed at Angers last week and, unshod behind, can double his money. Julien Dubois will be legitimately wary though of the more complicated, and reconfigured, MYSTIC HAUFOR (7) who was not beaten when eliminated here mid-month, and the promising MUST DE LOU (6) who will be both unshod-behind and entrusted to Alexandre Abrivard for the first time. MINIMUM (4) showed marked improvement earlier in the month and must be afforded respect.

  57. MID DANCER – 4th under these conditions early last month but eliminated in next 3. Races first-time barefoot though and Mathieu Mottier will be keen to get him back on track
  58. MILORD DES ARRIS – Produced quite the performance on debut at Cabourg on 16 December, missing out by little for the win. Has been afforded ample time to return to his best and it is only a question of WHEN he will get off the mark
  59. MY LOVE D’AR – Unraced since dominating a 2450m Caen Class E on 17 September. Is reunited with Mathis Champenois who partnered him that day and can get straight back down to business
  60. MONTANA BLUE – Looked rather ordinary when last of 5 finishers in a 2700m Class D here 10 days ago and will need to show a different side
  61. MARCHAND DE REVE – Debuts under the saddle after a pair of modest harness conditioners. Races shod this time but others easier to trust
  62. MISTER DU LOISIR – Was given a tremendous ride to secure a Class E over track and trip early this month. Shoes off again, with Alexis Collette in the saddle, and looks a contender once more
  63. MILORD DAIRPET – Has ample ability but often held back by his temperament. Sports front pads after being twice disqualified early when barefoot, and will not be far from the action if Clement Frecelle manages to keep him fixed on the task at hand
    Summary: Although complicated, MISTER DU LOISIR (8) showed considerable promise under the saddle last season and finally came good on New Year’s Day with a tenacious performance under Alexis Collette. Barefoot again, he has a reasonable chance of repeating, but will be up against the lightly-raced MILORD DES ARRIS (4) whose monte debut was particularly eye-catching. MY LOVE D’AR (5) is not the easiest to use either, and has not been seen out since imposing at Caen in September, but will have been prepared for this and looks competitive. MAGIC DIGEO (1) will be partnered by Eric Raffin for his ridden bow and is unlikely to disappoint.

  66. MANZANA – Takes a notable hike in category after running 3rd in a main-track claimer 11 days ago. Is similarly confirmed over course and distance, but is nevertheless taking on too much
  67. MOLLY WHITE – Honest filly that has shown considerable potential. Is first-time barefoot with Alexandre Abrivard back in the bike and will be expected to compete for a place in the picture
  68. MA LADY DU GARDEN – Unplaced on comeback in Bordeaux on 22 December. Is no slouch on a good day but appears to need the race
  69. MAMZELLE CARLESS – Blows hot and cold but has evident ability. Makes the long trip to the capital, with hind shoes off for first time, and although not a contender, can still pick up some prizemoney
  70. MARVELOUS PIYA – Good future prospect making just 2nd start of the winter. Is competitively-shod for the first time and will be no pushover if Mathieu Mottier keeps her mind on the game
  71. MINNEAPOLIS – Eliminated when prepping for this in a monte Class E early last month. Front pads fitted this time but still not an obvious choice
  72. MISS IS DU CANET – No champion but clearly has potential and has previously placed over the inner course. Has waited some time to race barefoot though and Antoine Voisin will be eager to make hay
    Summary: Comfortable winner at Nantes earlier in the month on her first association with Eric Raffin, MELVIANA (1) will be unshod-behind for her Vincennes bow and should be good enough to win a race of this nature. She will be opposed though by the justifiably well-regarded MARVELOUS PIYA (7) who will run in a similar configuration. MOLLY WHITE (4) has not been seen out since early-November but will be first-time barefoot and clearly means business. MISS IS DU CANET (9) may have just the one race in her since the autumn break, and starts alone on the back row, but with shoes off for the first time should not be underestimated.

  76. JUPITER DU CORTA – Barring a September elimination has been excelling under the saddle. Beaten only by a very good horse here on 21 December and looks a player once again
  77. JOKER DU HAMEL – Honest type that lost his action at Saint-Galmier last weekend. Has ability but is being aimed too high this time
  78. HOLLYWOOD GIRL – Consistently performant mare that imposed last time over the inner course. Form is not in question but faces some better younger horses and a minor place chance at best
  79. JOKER DE FROULAY – Has started to come good again lately, latterly 4th in a Cordemais Class E mid-month. Goes barefoot this time though and has a reasonable chance of making first 5
  80. JACQUARD – Has won all 6 of the monte races he has finished. Is new to the inner course but has nothing to prove in this grade of race and has every chance of securing the hat-trick
  81. JOUVENCE DE CAREL – Has little monte experience but has shown significant potential. Is patently in excellent shape and returns to the discipline with a decent chance of trotting her way onto the podium
    Summary: It may have taken until late last month to open his 2025 account but JESOLO (1) did it in good order over the main track. He has never disappointed over course and distance and will be expected to contest the finish once more. It will not be all plain sailing though after JACQUARD (8) imposed under harness over the main track before repeating with authority under the saddle at Nantes on Sunday. Wonderfully performant when applied, JUPITER DU CORTA (4) has been knocking at the door this winter and it will not be long before he gets his nose back in front. JOUVENCE DE CAREL (9) was not disgraced behind him here last month and has twice since placed under harness.

  82. NACRE D’ALBRET – Showed some improvement when runner-up in class E at Grenade-sur-Garonne over 2725m on 7 December. Can make the frame
  83. NUAGE DE MONTCEAU – Not reliable and was 7th in class B at this course over 2950m on 15 Janurary. Could be the surprise package of the race
  84. NATO JOSSELYN – Victorious on debut in Class F at Lyon-La Soie over 2050m on 10 Janurary. Steps up in distance but can follow up
  85. NOUBA D’ATOUT – A good debut when runner-up in class F at Bordeaux-Le Bouscat over 2650m on 4 Janurary. Should fight out the finish
  86. NIKITA DE BLARY – Disqualified in all three starts, the latest in class E at Salon-de-Provence over 2200m on 25 October. Has major disqualification issues and others are preferred
  87. NOUIC DI PALBA – Only fair of late and was 5th in class D at this course over 2150m on 22 Janurary. Needs to do more to beat these rivals
  88. NADJA D’OR – Finished 8th in class F at this course over 2150m on 9 January. Needs to more to beat these rivals
    Summary: NATO JOSSELYN (5) did everything asked of him when scoring on debut at Lyon-La Soie. He steps up in distance this time but looks capable of following up and can take out this lucky last. NOUBA D’ATOUT (6) found only one better on debut and should once again be challenging for top honours. NO PAIN (1) has some fair form and cannot be ruled out, while NEW YORK D’ATOUT (2) faulted at Lyon-La Soie but is capable of contesting the finish if smart.
