C1 – PRIX DE MARCQ-EN-BAROEUL – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 41,000 |
1. JADE DE NAVARY – 3rd to JALAYA DES BROUETS (6) in a 2825m Class F at Le Croisé-Laroche on 15 April. Hind pads fitted again but others still preferred
2. JAVA DE BOITRON – Close-finishing 4th of 12 in a similar event here on 9 April. Not once out of first 2 with Raffin reining and is not about to change her ways
3. JADE HAUFOR – 5th, 2 places behind a shod JALMAROSA (8), in a 2100m Vincennes Class E 3 weeks ago, but will not find things easy in this category
4. JAVA DE CASTELLE – On a good run of form recently, latterly 3rd, a place behind JOYCE DE LA COUR (5), in a 2900m Amiens Class E 2 weeks ago, and will need to find more
5. JOYCE DE LA COUR – In the frame in last 4, most recently a 2900m Amiens Class E a fortnight ago. In this company though, is not about to set off any fireworks
6. JALAYA DES BROUETS – Left a fine impression when winning a 2825m Class F at Le Croisé-Laroche mid-April. Hard to knock when barefoot and has a claim on a first-3 spot
7. JET SET DU BELLAY – Makes her first appearance since coming 3rd of 15 in a 2150m Enghien Class E late-March. Gets on well with Franck Nivard and is not about to return home empty-handed
8. JALMAROSA – Won a brace in March before coming 3rd of 11 in a 2100m Class E here on 12 April, and with Lebourgeois back in the wagon, can bring home the bacon
9. JULIA DU CHERISAY – A model of consistency in the other code, most recently 2nd of 9 in a 3125m monté Class E at Meslay-du-Maine and is unlikely to influence the result
10. JOUVENCE D’AVRIL – Complicated but capable sort that finished a reassuring 2nd of 11 in a 2550m Reims Class E 9 days ago and, on good behaviour, can play a small part
11. JANIS SHOW – Did not enjoy the best of runs when 10th of 12 in a 2850m Class D here on 19 February. Has had time to get her house in order and Franck Ouvrie will be out to capitalise on her good entry
Summary: JALMAROSA (8) has gone from strength to strength this year, last month passed her main-track baptism with honours and, racing first time barefoot, looks set to open her metropolitan account. Yoann Lebourgeois will still be wary of JAVA DE BOITRON (2) who simply thrives with Eric Raffin reining, and JALAYA DES BROUETS (6) who imposed smartly on just her second start back. JANIS SHOW (11) will have got her game together during the spell and the excellent entry will do her prospects no disservice.

C2 – PRIX DE RENNES – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Class B Race – Harness – EUR € 52,000 |
1. KIM FOREVER – Good, consistent filly that trotted 3rd to KAHIA DE LA CROIX (4) in a Class D over track and trip a month ago. Shoes on this time though and best to hold off
2. KEY OF LOVE – Was never at her ease before faulting in 9 April race of reference, and others easier to trust
3. KINNAIRD – No slouch on a good day but modest 5th of 9 in a 2500m Reims Class D mid-April and is not about to shake things up
4. KAHIA DE LA CROIX – A revelation since starting to race barefoot, most recently winning a Class D, with ease, over track and trip, and is in with a realistic shout of repeating
5. KAPPA – Sanctioned in 9 April race of reference but is otherwise a very talented filly and will not be far from the action if Etienne Dubois keeps her trotting
6. KAIRA DU DAMIER – Somewhat below-par 6th of 8 finishers, behind KIVALA RENARDIER (12), in a Class C over track and trip early-April. Won under these conditions for Pierre-Yves Verva in February and can pick up another cheque
7. KITTY CALL – Sports a new configuration after faulting in early-April race of reference. Adrien Lamy reining this time but still no more than an outside chance
8. KALICIA JOSSELYN – Has looked decidedly ordinary this year, most recently last but one in the race of reference, and will have nothing to offer
9. KANDIE D’ORCO – Raced well on re-entry when 3rd of 10 in a 2850m Feurs Class C on 8 April. Has references here but takes on an elevated bunch this time around and can expect little support
10. KETTY ANGOT – Back under harness after finishing a flattering 5th of 7 in a 2175m monté Gr.2 recently and, with shoes on, will not be troubling the judge
11. KINASSE DE VIVOIN – 4th of 9 in a 2625m Class B at La Rochelle 2 weeks ago, but has little love for the Vincennes main track and can be passed over
12. KIVALA RENARDIER – Reassuring 3rd of 8 finishers in a Class C over course and distance on 9 April. Shoes off, entrusted to Eric Raffin, also for the first time, and is unlikely to disappoint. Chance
13. KISS ME BOURBON – Winner at this level earlier in the year but has failed to confirm in 2 since. Left a good impression despite being sanctioned in a Class A over course and distance late-March and is not to be overlooked
14. KASH LADY – Respectable but unthreatening 8th of 10, behind KINASSE DE VIVOIN (11), in a Class A under these conditions on 23 March. Drops back in category though and can get a look-in
15. KOKOTE – Makes her first appearance since coming 2nd of 10 in a 2850m Class B here 2 months ago. Well-engaged and, in similar form, can play a prominent role
16. KEMIA DU CHENE – 8th of 9, on re-entry, in a Class B over course and distance 8 days ago. Has an excellent entry and can finally be rewarded with a deserved success
Summary: Unshod-all-4 following a necessary freshener, KEMIA DU CHENE (16) enjoys an entry-made-in-heaven and, under these conditions, looks a marginally better bet than recent course-and-distance winner, KAHIA DE LA CROIX (4), who returns to the venue on a 4-timer. KIVALA RENARDIER (12) beat a number of these early last month and racing first time barefoot, looks a serious proposition. KOKOTE (15) can occasionally prove a handful but is hard to fault when focused and must be considered one of the main protagonists.

1. KIRCIE DE GUEZ – 9th, on comeback, in a Class A over course and distance 8 days ago. Preparing for a monté campaign and can be ruled out
2. KANTO AVIS – Good 2nd of 9 on re-entry in a 2625m Class B at La Rochelle a fortnight back. Hind shoes off this time and, even stepping up in class, is still worth keeping an eye on
3. KRACOVIA – Reassuring 2nd in a Class A over track and trip 8 days ago. Takes on a bigger task this time around and, in the absence of Eric Raffin, is unlikely to surprise
4. KELLE BEAUTE – Complicated but plainly back in business. Surprise winner of a 2850m Class A here on 6 April, has solid 2700m credentials, and is not going to be far off the mark
5. KEEN WINNER – 6th to KELLE BEAUTE (4) in a 2850m Class A here early last month. Has however won twice over course and distance this term and is not about to let the side down
6. KNOCKONWOOD – Never the easiest to gauge but eye-catching after faulting in 2875m Gr.2 Prix de Tonnac-Villeneuve at Enghien a fortnight ago and can play a leading role if Franck Nivard keeps him trotting
7. KAYA DREAM – Makes first start since being sanctioned in a 2175m Vincennes monté Gr.2 last January. Front pads fitted but still not a priority
8. KIARA DE VANDEL – 4th to KELLE BEAUTE (4) in a 2850m Class A here on 6 April and can pick up another pay-cheque if Léo Abrivard keeps her trotting
9. KHAL’S FELLA – 3rd, a place behind KAVIARISSIME (13), in a 2850m Class A here on 6 April, after having won over track and trio, and will justifiably garner support
10. KELLY DE BANVILLE – Starts for first time since finishing 3rd of 6 in 2700m monté Gr.3 here on 20 February. Shoes on and will not be given a hard race
11. KALMIA QUICK – 8th of 10, when shod, in 20 April race of reference. Shoes on again and others preferred
12. KOOL DES CHAMPS – Races barefoot after finishing last of 10 in Prix de Tonnac-Villeneuve late last month and even racing barefoot, will struggle to make his mark
13. KAVIARISSIME – Does not always race to form but reassured with a fine 4th in 2875m Gr.2 Prix de Tonnac-Villeneuve across town 2 weeks ago and looks the one to beat this time
14. KEEP GOING – Second to a superior KAVIARISSIME (13) in Gr.3 over track and trip early-March. Less-competitively-shod this time but still looks capable of trotting his way into the frame
Summary: KAVIARISSIME (13) held his own particularly well, in better company, at Enghien a fortnight ago and with form maintained should be able to impose. Gabriele Gelormini will still be wary of KNOCKONWOOD (6) who was most impressive following his sanction that day. KEEP GOING (14) trotted 2nd to the favourite in Gr.2 Prix Franck Anne 2 months ago and even with just front pads fitted, can still put on a good show. KHAL’S FELLA (9) has been encouraging lately, has form against the Allaire colt, and must be respected.

1. JASMINE DE VAU – Missed out by little for 3rd, behind JOCONDE SIBEY (2), in Gr.2 Prix Henri Levesque on 13 April but appears to have a mountain to climb this time
2. JOCONDE SIBEY – Progressive mare that finished a fine 2nd in 2700m Gr.2 Prix Henri Levesque 3 weeks ago. Races barefoot again and although unlikely to repeat, is still worth retaining
3. JANGO VICI – 5th to JAZZMAN DEBAILLEUL (6) in a 2875m Enghien Class A 2 weeks ago and already looks out of his depth
4. JIOSCO DE PHYT’S – Had Gr.2 Prix Robert Auvray at his mercy last month before faulting in the final strides. Won for Eric Raffin 2 months ago and has a realistic chance of repeating
5. JASON – Took his game to a new level when 3rd to JACK TONIC (9) last month on first start in this class. Returns with morale intact and can again figure prominently
6. JAZZMAN DEBAILLEUL – Has done nothing but progress since the autumn, most recently lifting a 2875m Enghien Class A a fortnight ago. Steps back up in class and while not a priority, should nevertheless hold his own
7. JOUMBA DE GUEZ – 10th of 11, on first start since the layoff, in 2700m Gr.2 Prix Henri Levesque 3 weeks ago and is not about to shake things up
8. JASPER DES CHARMES – Last but one, on comeback, in race of reference. Preparing for monté campaign and can be passed over
9. JACK TONIC – Surprising, but excellent, winner of 2700m Gr.2 Prix Robert Auvray here 3 weeks ago. Not expected to repeat but can still pick up some prizemoney
10. JAG STRYCK – Reinvigorated of late, most recently runner-up to JACK TONIC (9) in 13 April race of reference. Has won over course and distance and is very much in the reckoning
11. J’AIME LE FOOT – 4th in Gr.2 Prix Robert Auvray here on 13 April. Has never delivered over 2850m on the main track but, in current condition, is hard to ignore
12. JUNINHO DRY – Disappointing over the winter and most recently finished lacklustre 7th behind JACK TONIC (9) in 2700m Gr.2 Prix Robert Auvray here 3 weeks ago. No threat
13. JUST LOVE YOU – Looked a race shy on comeback here when 9th of 11 finishers in 2700m Gr.2 Prix Henri Levesque 3 weeks ago. Shoes back on and poses no danger
14. JUST A GIGOLO – Quickly sanctioned in 2700m Gr.1 Prix Bold Eagle here late-January. Reverts to a previous configuration, with Gabriele Gelormini reining, and with freshness on his side, can return to winning ways
Summary: Although sanctioned when on course for victory in Gr.2 Prix Robert Auvray 3 weeks ago, JIOSCO DE PHYT’S (4) nevertheless showed that he was up to the challenge at this level and is not incapable of winning this. Then there’s JUST A GIGOLO (14), who has talent to burn, and the modified shoeing and new driver may well be the ticket to his redemption. JASON (5) met his Prix Robert Auvray challenge head-on and, in similar shape, can again finish close. J’AIME LE FOOT (11) finished a place behind him that day and will be expected to confirm.

1. GADSEM – 7th of 13, when being conditioned, in a 2825m Cordemais Class F 10 days ago and even though barefoot and confirmed over course and distance, still looks to have too much to do
2. GIGA DES PLAINES – Unremarkable mare that came 6th of 18 in a 2800m Rambouillet Class F 2 weeks ago and, even with front pads fitted, still looks to have her work cut out
3. HARMONY LA NUIT – Produced a good effort to trot 2nd of 13 in a 2825m Cordemais Class F 10 days ago and the change of driver will only work to her advantage. Place chance
4. HURIEL LUDOIS – Winner in both codes last month, most recently a 2825m Cordemais monté Class D on 24 April. In better company this time but nevertheless looks an interesting outsider
5. HARIA DU BELLAY – Has bags of ability but disappointing lately, most recently 7th of 13 in a 2100m Class E here. Lebourgeois keeps the faith though and, in this company, could well make the first 5
6. HUGO DU BOURG – Has not been seen out since faulting in a monté Class E over course and distance last December and can be confidently passed over
7. HOUSTON TUILERIE – Difficult to fault when focused, most recently winning a 2875m Argentan Class F in good order mid-April. Is dangerous when barefoot and looks a serious proposition
8. HECTOR DE BASSIERE – 2nd of 13 in a 2850m Mauquenchy Class F a month back. Franck Nivard reining this time and will be afforded every chance
9. HERMES EXPRESS – Facile winner of a 2550m Reims Class E on 21 March, making it 4 victories on the trot. Unbeaten in 5 starts for Eric Raffin and will be expected to continue their love-affair
Summary: A model of consistency, and winner over course and distance mid-February, HERMES EXPRESS (9) returns to Paris on a 5-timer and, with Eric Raffin reining, looks set to accomplish the feat. Back in business lately with 2 straight victories, HOUSTON TUILERIE (7) races barefoot for the first time since September and Matthieu Abrivard will have the favourite fixed firmly in his sights. HARMONY LA NUIT (3) is plainly In form, won her only start for JMB, sports modified shoeing, and is not going to be far from the action. In the frame in two of his last three, Franck Nivard gets the nod on HECTOR DE BASSIERE (8) and looks similarly capable of challenging for a place on the podium.

1. FAUX DOLLARS – Below-par since the turn of the year, latterly 14th of 15 in a 2725m Lisieux Class E 3 weeks ago, and even with Théo Duvaldestin reining, will struggle to make his mark
2. FULL CASH DE PADD – 9th of 16 in a 2900m Amiens Class F 3 weeks ago. Races first time barefoot but others still preferred
3. FLAMBEUR DU DIGEON – Below-par 9th of 14, behind FEELING PACO (8), in a 2100m Class E here late-March. Has otherwise been enjoying a decent run and can make the first 5 this time
4. ETHAN DRIVE – Moderate trotter that lost his action on comeback late-April in a 2825m Cordemais Class F 10 days ago, and barefoot or not, is unlikely to be up to the task
5. FEDER PERRINE – 7th of 13 finishers in a 2825m Cordemais Class F 10 days ago. Mathieu Mottier reining this time but still no more than a minor place chance
6. FEUX VERTS – By no means disgraced when 8th of 12 finishers in a 2100m Vincennes Class D after having won 2 right-handed. Goes barefoot again and can challenge for a place on the podium this time
7. EQUIDO ALFA – Fine provincial campaigner that came in last of 9, when still being conditioned, in a 2800m Cholet Class E last Monday. Shoes on again and no threat
8. FEELING PACO – 4th of 13 in a 2100m Class E here on 29 March. Has excellent references when barefoot and will be expected to turn the tables on FAN DE PHYT’S (13) who beat him late-February
9. FELICITA D’ECOUVES – Last of 12 in a 2100m Class D here a fortnight ago. Is not devoid of ability but will need to find more this time around
10. FAUBOURG DU PERCHE – Last of 15 in a 2700m claimer here on Tuesday. Front shoes off this time but others still preferred
11. EL PARDO – Shod to preference after coming a surprise 7th of 13 in a 2650m Class E at L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue 2 weeks ago and can be written off
12. FELINE DE CALVI – Raced better in a 2700m Graignes Class E on 18 April than her 7th place would suggest. Previously showed her form at a superior level and, with a leading driver reining this time, will be competitive for a place in the frame
13. FAN DE PHYT’S – Pulled off quite the surprise when winning a 2100m Class E here on 28 February. Has had time to recuperate and is not incapable of doubling up
14. FILOU DE L’ELLE – Has not been seen out since coming 9th of 11 in a 2175m monté Class D here mid-January. Has references in this category though and will have his supporters
15. EMIR DU PRESSOIR – Sanctioned, at 133/1, in a 2700m claimer here on Tuesday and, quite simply, has no realistic chance
16. FRANKY SATYNE – Got back in the game 11 days ago when close 2nd of 15 in a claimer over course and distance. Modified shoeing here but Eric Raffin has maintained faith and will be expected to finish in the mix
Summary: Unlucky not to finish closer than 4th in a competitive 2100m event here late-March, FEELING PACO (8) should find conditions more to his liking today and Franck NIVARD will be out to exact revenge on FAN DE PHYT’S (13) who, surprisingly, had his measure over 2700m a month prior. 183/1 winner of a 2750m Ecommoy Class A 5 weeks ago, FELINE DE CALVI (12) gets a Matthieu Abrivard drive for the occasion and can make up for her Graignes result. FEUX VERTS (6) won 2 on the trot before racing courageously here a fortnight ago and improvement is expected.

1. ETERNEL AMOUR – 11th, behind GREAT OF MADRIK (7), in a similar event here 3 weeks ago and again appears to be out of his depth
2. IBISCUS MAN – Dynamic since late-December, most recently trotting 2nd in a 3000m GNT Gr.3 at Marseille-Borély on 27 March. 2nd in 2700m Gr.3 Prix de la Mayenne on previous outing and is in with a realistic shout
3. GILMOUR – Unremarkable type that came a tenacious 5th of 12 in a 2100m Vincennes Class C but will struggle to make much on an impact on this occasion
4. GINKO DU ROUSSOIR – Showed improvement when 6th, a place behind HARRY CARISAIE (8), in a 3250m GNT Gr.3 at Lyon-La Soie on 10 April, but on this occasion appears to have more limited prospects
5. EUSEBIO D’HERIPRE – Starts for the first time since coming 9th of 10 in a 2850m Class B here last June and can be disregarded
6. HARLEY GEMA – Faulted in the stretch when en route to victory in a 2150m Enghien Class C 2 weeks ago. Is plainly at the top of her game and, on good behaviour, can set the record straight
7. GREAT OF MADRIK – Pleasantly surprised when 3rd of 14 in a Class C over course and distance 3 weeks ago. Unlikely to repeat but should still acquit himself honourably
8. HARRY CARISAIE – 5th of 14 in 3250m GNT Gr.3 at Lyon-La Soie on 10 April. Consistently gives everything he has and is unlikely to be far from the action
9. HAPPY DANICA – Good mare but disappointing after the spell when 7th, behind HARRY CARISAIE (8), in 3250m GNT Gr.3 at Lyon-La Soie on 10 April. Returns to her preferred hunting-ground though and can start to make amends
10. HERADAMES – Got back in the game when 3rd of 12 in a 3100m Angers Gr.3 a month back and, if still on the boil and focused, can go close
11. FIFTY BLACK – Put in a good final effort to come 7th, behind GREAT OF MADRIK (7), in a similar event here 3 weeks ago and will be expected to be more competitive this time around. Place chance
12. FAVORI DE L’ITON – 10th of 14 finishers in a 2150m Enghien Class C 2 weeks ago. Is more at home in the claiming division and can be ruled out
13. FIESTA DU BELVER – Modest 9th to GREAT OF MADRIK (7) in 13 April race of reference and is unlikely to be troubling the judge
14. GUINESS D’HERFRAIE – Courageous but unthreatening 6th, a place behind GREAT OF MADRIK (7), in a Class C over course and distance late-March and is not about to spring a surprise
15. INVICTUS MADIBA – Runner-up, for the 3rd time in a row, in a 2725m Lisieux Class D 2 weeks ago. Is not going to be far off the mark and can even win this
16. ELIXIR WIND – Quality element making his first appearance since coming 5th of 13 in a 2300m Marseille-Borély Class C last October. Front shoes off but others still preferred
Summary: An excellent servant with nothing to prove under these conditions, HARLEY GEMA (6) would have imposed at Enghien a fortnight ago had she not faulted, and Guillaume Martin will be out to put things right. It’s unlikely to be all plane sailing though considering the form the younger IBISCUS MAN (2) has been showing at a superior level. FIFTY BLACK (11) caught the eye on re-entry, will have come on for the run, and is not to be underestimated. Bridesmaid in his last three, INVICTUS MADIBA (15) is close to his race and will be competitive for a spot on the podium.

1. EXTREME DESBOIS – Appears to have found his way in the ridden code, latterly runner-up to HOPIUM (3) in a 2875m Enghien Class C 2 weeks ago. Takes a notable step up in category however and is unlikely to cause an upset
2. FORAIN JENILOU – 4th of 8 in a 2825m Cordemais Class D 8 days ago. Faithful sort with decent 2850m credentials, races barefoot for the occasion, but at this level will have his work cut out
3. HOPIUM – Excellent this term, most recently successful in a 2875m Enghien Class C 2 weeks ago. Aimed higher this time and although not a contender, can still eke out a cheque
4. HALFA – Could manage no closer than 5th behind HOPIUM (3) in a 2700m Class C here on 12 April, after suffering interference, but form is sound and redemption should be on the cards. Chance
5. GEF DE PLAY – Springs the occasional surprise but latest sanction in 12 April race of reference does nothing to inspire confidence
6. ESPOIR DU RAVARY – Capable type that trotted 4th behind HOPIUM (3) in a 2700m Class C here on 12 April but will still need to raise his game
7. GRAAL DU TRESOR – Powerful winner of a 3250m harness Gr.3 on 10 April. Plainly at the top of his game and can play an important role if form transitions
8. IN LOVE DU CHOQUEL – Tough element returning on a hat-trick, latterly clinching victory in a Gr.3 over course and distance a month back. Breaks in front and can bring the fight to EDITION GEMA (10)
9. FILWELL – Has not been seen out since trotting 4th to EDITION GEMA (10) in a 2175m Vincennes Gr.3 on 18 February. Is barefoot for re-entry but the extra 25m may limit him to a first-5 prospect this time
10. EDITION GEMA – Superior winner of a 2700m Gr.2 here a fortnight ago. Incurs the penalty but still looks capable of getting her nose in front and pulling off the 5-timer
Summary: An absolute revelation since the turn of the year, the versatile EDITION GEMA (10) breaks from the 2nd line but still looks capable of besting recent Gr.3 Prix Cornelia winner IN LOVE DU CHOQUEL (8) who benefits from a 25m head-start. 3rd in Gr.2 Prix du Calvados over course and distance earlier in the year, HALFA (4) can play a key role here if Alan Gendrot manages to keep her in stride. Unseen under the saddle for almost 2 years, GRAAL DU TRESOR (7) was superb in a Lyon-La Soie harness Gr.3 last month and returns to the discipline with a good hand to play.

1. HORCHESTRO – Made short work of a Marseille-Borély Gr.3 late-March before coming good 3rd in a 3250m Lyon-La Soie Gr.3 on 10 April and, even with the inside draw, still looks main threat to EUREKA VRIE (5)
2. DERBY DU DOLLAR – Unseen since coming last but one in a 2700m Vincennes claimer early-December. Disregard
3. EQUINOXE JIEL – Races barefoot after 2 fresheners, latterly last of 10 in a 2850m Class A here a fortnight ago, and is not about to spring any surprises
4. EBERTON – Handed a fine draw, and competitively-shod, but will need to improve on his 8th of 10 in a 2850m Class A here 2 weeks back
5. EUREKA VRIE – Very hard to fault when racing in this configuration, most recently winning a Class B under these conditions on 13 April. Well-placed behind the car and is the one to beat
6. GO FOR THE GOLD – 10th of 11 on comeback in a 2650m Bordeaux Gr.3 earlier in the week. Is better under the saddle but is barefoot for the occasion and could pleasantly surprise
7. FILOU D’ANJOU – Being conditioned when 10th behind HAVE A DREAM (10) in a 2800m Cordemais Gr.3 10 days ago. Known more for monté exploits but, with hind shoes off and Yoann Lebourgeois reining, will be afforded every chance
8. GUIDE MOI FORGAN – Should not be too harshly-judged for recent 9th behind HORCHESTRO (1) in a 3250m Lyon-La Soie Gr.3 on 10 April. Won a similar event earlier in the year and will be no soft touch
9. BORDEAUX S. – Hardy element making his first appearance since coming 3rd of 15 in a 2850m Laval Class A mid-March and will not find this the easiest of tests
10. HAVE A DREAM – Pleased over longer here in March before trotting 5th of 15 in a 2800m Cordemais Gr.3 10 days ago. Below-par that day but expected to prove more competitive on this occasion
11. FANATIC FLASH – 3rd time a charm, winning a 2525m Cavaillon Class B on 9 April. Is confirmed under similar conditions and, while clearly in better company this time, should still acquit himself decently
12. HIDALGO DES NOES – Reaffirmed when 2nd to EUREKA VRIE (5) under similar conditions in 13 April race of reference. Just front shoes off this time though and the draw will do him no favours
13. FAUBOURG – No longer the horse he once was, finishing 6th over 2840m at Mons and, in this company, can be confidently ruled out
14. HONKY TONK BLUES – Has been disappointing for some time and latest 12th behind HAVE A DREAM (10) in a 2800m Cordemais Gr.3 10 days ago, does nothing to inspire confidence
15. ESTEBAN JIEL – Kicked the year off well but disappointing of late, most recently a well-beaten 7th to EUREKA VRIE (5) 3 weeks ago, and will need to reaffirm his credentials
16. GRINDELWALD – 5th of 14, to EUREKA VRIE (5), in a Class B over course and distance 3 weeks ago. Has a fine turn of foot and, even from wide on the 2nd line, can still finish in the mix
Summary: In his element under these conditions and hard to fault with Eric Raffin reining, EUREKA VRIE (5) has been handed a good front-line draw and will be expected to double his money. Excellent in the GNT lately, HORCHESTRO (1) returns to the capital in top form, sporting a proven configuration, and will be no pushover if David Békaert successfully navigates the start. GUIDE MOI FORGAN (8) did not enjoy the best of runs behind him in Lyon last month and, already a winner for Mathieu Mottier, can redeem himself. The excellent GRINDELWALD (16) has been handed a shocking draw but with JMB reining, will not go down without a fight.

7. JEUNE ROI BLEU – 5th in a Listed hurdle on the sole run so far on April 19th over 3000m. Best watched for now
Summary: COLBERT DU BERLAIS (2) is not the force of old but should be too smart for his rivals. He has solid form at this venue in the past. JEU DE THAIX (1) looks like the main threat. He scored over hurdles in a Class 2 event when last seen in November at this track. He will be well-tuned for this return run. ECHO DE CHAMPDOUX (3) is also one to consider after a recent run in April will have brought him forward. MEASURE OF TIME (4) heads the remainder.

Summary: GIBRALFARO (5) ran well last time and could be hitting peak form at the right time. He can score at a track he seems to like. KING TO BE (9) could give him the most to do having run a solid race last time at this track when third in a Class 2 chase when the selection was ahead of him in second. Summary: Three fillies who will likely be at the head of the betting are all unbeaten in one run each so far. THANKYOU (11) ran a solid race on her return and she looks to be a lively contender. QUEST FOR LOVE (5) put up a fair effort last time out and should get involved. 2. DRAPEAU BLANC – Improving, lightly raced mare with sound references/form credentials, including a last-start 2nd in a conditions race over 3100m at La Roche-sur-Yon on 14 April. Has legitimate claims on handicap debut
3. LIBERTE CHERIE – Proved her competitiveness off this mark (under a 2kg penalty) by finishing 2nd in her penultimate start, so should not be hastily condemned following a disappointing 9th over 2400m at Nantes on 18 April. Keep safe
4. GRAND COURGEON – Soundly beaten in all 3 appearances this year in PSF handicaps at Pau, the latest (14th) over 2000m on 18 February. Has better references on turf so could do better here
5. LADY STRAIGHT – Hard-knocking veteran handicapper who performed consistently at this level last year. Hasn’t been seen since finishing a lackluster 14th over 2400m at Craon on 3 December
6. STYLE FLIGHT – Lightly raced four-year-old gelding who finished 3rd in two of four starts last year. Absent since the latest of those at Machecoul over 2950m on 22 October
7. ROCHEUX – Was supplemented for this race after staying on well to finish an encouraging 5th at Evreux over 1800m on 24 April and has already proven his competitiveness in handicaps off his current mark. Winning chance
8. STORMY FLOO – Unreliable mare though seldom finishes far off the mark on a going day. Absent since finishing 6th over 2350m at Machecoul on 11 November
9. SPINNING MIST – Consistent for the most part but is held on recent form by ROCHEUX (7), having finished 7th over 1800m at Evreux recently (24 April). Place chance
10. LA PALOMBIERE – Unplaced in all 8 outings but seldom far off the mark, including both handicap appearances last month finished 7th over 2000m at Le Lion-d’Angers and 6th over 2400m at Nantes on 18 April. For lovers of outsiders
11. PENNYWELL – Yet to find the frame in 12 appearances and finished a well-beaten 7th of 11 in a 2400m handicap at Saint-Cloud on 12 April. Others preferred
12. SOTCHI – A battling maiden with nothing to show from 37 outings – unplaced and soundly beaten in all seven starts this year. Finished a well-beaten 10th in a 1950m handicap at Châteaubriant on 27 April
Summary: ROCHEUX (7) stayed on well from the rear of the field to finish 5th over 1800m Evreux recently and should, especially on the evidence of that performance, relish a return to this distance over which he has already proved his effectiveness. Trainer Axel Baron rides consistent filly DRAPEAU BLANC (2) who boasts the form and experience to acquit herself competitively in her first handicap appearance. LIBERTE CHERIE (3) fluffed her lines at Nantes last time but is undeniably capable of a better showing here, so cannot be discounted. SPINNING MIST (9) has won at Angers and can get into the picture too.

1. ORION ROCK – Consistent colt boasting strong references/form credentials, including a 2400m Quinté+ victory last November. Caught the eye on his reappearance with an encouraging 4th over 3100m at Nantes on 6 April – sets the standard
2. LAUGHINGOF FEAR – Returned to form with an encouraging 4th over 2400m in a stronger race/field at Lyon-Parilly on 20 April – in just his second outing on French soil. Keep safe
3. JUST LIGHT – Consistent veteran handicapper with consistent/competitive recent references in Quinté+ events on PSF, the latest (5th) over 1900m at Deauville on 9 April. Won his last two starts on turf in September and October – not taken lightly
4. PHILIPPO – Has confirmed the promise he showed in Spain as a young horse in all four starts on French soil, including his latest (4th) on his reappearance at Le Lion-d’Angers over 2000m on 31 March. Dark horse
5. AMTIYAZ – Versatile well-traveled veteran who showed his class on the PSF in England and maintained his form/consistency on turf. Has performed inconsistently in Spain and was only 7th on his reappearance (Madrid) over 2800m on 14 April
6. VAZIRPOUR – Lightly raced four-year-old gelding who has never finished worse than 5th (three times) in six outings, five on turf. Absent since finishing 5th over 1900m in his first start on PSF at Deauville on 15 November
7. THE TOP GATSBY – Consistent and versatile filly beaten only by Deputy Ruler (who since finished 3rd in a Quinte+) on her reappearance at La Teste over 2400m on 10 April. The booking of Maxime Guyon bodes well for her chances here
8. HANDHY – Lightly raced mare who found the frame in five of seven outings last year, the latest (4th) over 1900m on the PSF at Deauville on 28 December. Outsider
9. EUBOA – Improving, lightly raced filly with sound references/form credentials, including a last-start 5th on heavy ground in a 2000m Listed race at Chantilly on 27 October. Respected on her return
Summary: Consistent ORION ROCK (1) ought to build on an encouraging reappearance and is unlikely to be bothered by the drying ground or this shorter distance. He gets the nod ahead of THE TOP GATSBY (7) whose form and consistency, especially after an eye-catching comeback 2nd, will stand her in good stead. LAUGHINGOF FEAR (2) finished a reassuring 4th recently at Lyon-Parilly and could make his presence felt, along with honest veteran JUST LIGHT (3) who also has earning potential.

1. RAIKU – Won a 1400m claimer at Saint-Cloud on 16 March and followed up with another success in Madrid over 1400m last time out (31 March). Another bold showing expected
2. PACO – A winner at this level in January. Was outclassed (11th) in a 1900m Bordeaux Quinté+ on 22 April but will appreciate reverting to his preferred distance
3. STRAKO – Caught the eye when staying on late in the day to finish 6th in a 1600m handicap at Le Mans on 23 April. Confirmed at this level, he will fight for victory
4. STAR RUN – Soundly beaten (15th) on debut at Deauville in December 2022 and has finished 9th in both comeback outings this year, the latest at Fontainebleau over 1800m on 2 April. Hard to recommend
5. AROWN – Already a winner at this level and scored over this course and distance on his only visit to this track. Was outclassed (16th) in a 1900m Bordeaux Quinté+ on 22 April but should fare better in this grade
6. OXALIS – Has achieved three of his nine career wins at this level, albeit on the PSF. Unplaced in all five appearances this year, the latest (9th) in a 1900m handicap at Bordeaux on 22 April
7. LAURENT – Inconsistent performer but is capable of getting into the picture – won a 2000m claimer on debut in October 2021. Returns to this category after finishing 11th in a Quinte+ over 1800m at Compiegne on 19 March
8. POWER PAPERS – Returned to form with an improved/encouraging 2nd in a 1500m claimer at Cagnes on 18 January. Not taken lightly
9. WHITE GLORY – Won over 2500m on the PSF at Deauville in his only appearance at this level on 22 August and won his next start in a 2400m handicap at Compiegne. Absent since finishing 12th in a 2500m PSF handicap at Deauville on 16 November
10. SIXTUS – Consistent for the most part but has yet to win a race (from 20 starts). Debuts in the claiming category after finishing 7th in a 1200m turf handicap at Chantilly on 15 April
11. OUI JE L ADORE – Achieved her only career success at this level and has finished 3rd twice in three claiming appearances. Will need to improve to have a say after finishing 8th in a 1400m handicap on heavy ground at Le Lion-d’Angers on 31 March
12. ALATHEA – Won a Quinte+ at Compiegne over this distance last year and has acquitted herself well under a resultant penalty in subsequent handicaps. Absent since finishing 6th in a 1600m handicap at Lyon-Parilly on 9 November – keep safe
Summary: STRAKO (3) ran on well to finish just out of the money in a handicap at Le Mans recently but that would’ve teed him up nicely ahead of this return to the claiming category, in which he has won and finished 2nd from as many outings on the PSF. PACO (2) is drawn wide but is efficient over the mile and has won under Maryline Eon, so could pose a threat along with RAIKU (1) who has won three of his last four starts. Enigmatic AROWN (5) is the highest-rated runner and has won on this track, so can’t be underestimated either.

1. HIMYAN – Ran on from last to make a winning reappearance over 1700m at La-Roche-sur-Yon on 14 April and, on the evidence of that victory, could be even better over this extended distance. Candidate for success
2. TEARDROP EXPLODES – Consistent filly with sound references/form credentials, albeit without success. Finished 3rd and 2nd in two outings at this venue and was 3rd recently in a 1900m claimer at Bordeaux on 1 April. Keep safe
3. CYNIC – Posted a career-best when finishing 2nd in a 2100m handicap at Senonnes on 14 April, proving his competitiveness off this mark. Not taken lightly
4. RUE CUSTINE – Was 2nd in an 1800m claimer at Compiègne before finishing 6th in a 2000m Class 3 conditions race at Saint-Cloud on heavy ground on 12 April. Has a winning chance here on her handicap debut
5. ROUDOUDOU – Has achieved his best references (only placed effort) on the PSF. Made no impression on his handicap debut (7th) at Le Croisé-Laroche over 1800m on 20 April
6. TENYEARSAFTER – Unplaced in all three outings but hasn’t finished far off the mark on each occasion, the latest (6th) at Saint-Cloud on heavy ground in a 1500m claimer on 12 April. Makes his handicap debut
7. BRAMANS – Has improved with each handicap appearance and confirmed as much by finishing 4th over 2000m at Lyon-Parilly on 17 April. Dangerous to discount his chances
8. SEABISCUIT DU RHEU – Showed signs of improvement when finishing 5th on his reappearance over 2000m at Durtal on 21 April. Could have more to offer pitched into a handicap for the first time
Summary: RUE CUSTINE (4) is by no means a model of consistency but, against this opposition, seems ideally placed to make a winning handicap debut. Improving HIMYAN (1) made a winning reappearance and should have more to offer given a step up to this distance, so will fight for victory. CYNIC (3), who finished 2nd in a handicap last time, need only confirm the improvement of that performance to trouble that pair, while consistent TEARDROP EXPLODES (2) has never disappointed on this track and should again acquit herself competitively.
