French Selections Saturday 15th

R1 ENGHIEN [L-H]
C1 – PRIX DE LA PLACE DUPLEIX – 2150m (a1m1/4) – Class B Race – Harness – EUR € 52,000

1. LISAS – Has won 2 of 3, most recently a 2550m Reims Class E on 20 May but, in this company, will have her work cut out

2. LITTLE CROWN – Races with 4 pads for the first time after missing out by little in a 2850m Hyères Class B late last month. Steps up in class but is entrusted to Matthieu Abrivard and could yet make first 5

3. LOVELY DAY CEKE – On a fine run of form before coming last of 8 in a 2700m Vincennes Class A early last month. New shoeing, new driver, and expected to play a prominent part

4. LOLITA DE LA BUTTE – Always gives her best, latterly 4th in a 2700m Vincennes Class C 3 weeks ago. Top driver engaged for the occasion and, while unlikely to get off the mark, can still figure prominently

5. LUMIZIANA – Sanctioned in both this term, latterly a 2175m Vincennes Class B earlier in the month. Has shown promise though and with Benjamin Rochard reining can start to get back in the game

6. LARA DE CHENU – Winner on debut before cruising to victory in a 2700m Vincennes Class D mid-May and will be expected to challenge for the win

7. LADY DU POMMEREUX – Distant 2nd to the fine LARA DE CHENU (6) in a 2700m Vincennes Class D mid-May and is unlikely to spring any surprises

8. LA DIVA SUPREME – Put the opposition in the shade in a 2200m Vincennes Class D 2 months ago. Comes here fresh and securing the hat-trick is well within her capacity

9. LILOU D’ATOUT – Runner-up in all 3 starts to date, latterly to LISAS (1) in a 2550m Reims Class E on 20 May. Alone on 2nd line and not a priority

Summary: Winner at Chartres before confirming mid-April with a Vincennes romp, LA DIVA SUPREME (8) has every chance of pulling off the 3-timer, although she is set to face considerable resistance from the unbeaten LARA DE CHENU (6) who similarly outclassed the field across town a month later. Back at a more reasonable level after being trounced early-May, the progressive LOVELY DAY CEKE (3) is fitted with front pads for the first time, will be partnered by Eric Raffin, and must be treated with respect. David Thomain has been booked for LOLITA DE LA BUTTE (4) who should be competitive for a place in the frame.

SELECTIONS
LA DIVA SUPREME (8) – LARA DE CHENU (6) – LOVELY DAY CEKE (3) – LOLITA DE LA BUTTE (4)
C2 – PRIX DE BONNE-NOUVELLE – 2150m (a1m1/4) – Class B Race – Harness – EUR € 52,000

1. LABORANTIN – 3rd of 7 finishers in a 2725m Lisieux Class C 8 days ago after having gone close at Le Croisé-Laroche, and has a reasonable chance of picking up a first-5 cheque

2. LATINOS DU NOYER – Close to coming 3rd in a 2700m Vincennes Class C 3 weeks ago. Is plainly in fine shape and has every chance of confirming his La Capelle success

3. LOUISON – Quality element but 9th of 14 in a 2700m Vincennes Class D late-April, on first left-handed start. Should take better to Enghien profile but others still preferred

4. LIZZANO D’ALOUETTE – Won his first 2 before being sanctioned in a 2700m Vincennes Class C early-February. Has freshness on his side and while not expected to win this, can still play a prominent role

5. LOVER JULMA – Starts for the first time since finishing last but one in a 2850m Vincennes Class B late-February. Sports pads for the first time but still looks to have too much to do

6. LEO DES MALBERAUX – Solid in 2 under harness before being sent for a break after faulting in a 2200m Vincennes monté Class B early-March. Has pads fitted though and with Eric Raffin reining will justifiably garner significant support

7. LUCKY CASTELETS – Returns to racing left-handed after being sanctioned in a 2725m Lisieux Class C 8 days ago, but has bags of ability and will have his chances if he gets off on the right foot

8. LITTLE LOVE – Won 2 of first 3 before faulting early in a 2725m Lisieux Class C on 7 June. In this company though, is unlikely to shake things up

Summary: Although still somewhat green, LATINOS DU NOYER (2) has nevertheless started to come into himself lately and steps marginally up in category with a lot to offer. David Thomain would still be wise to be wary of the returning, but progressive, LEO DES MALBERAUX (6) who has yet to disappoint for Eric Raffin, and the promising LUCKY CASTELETS (7) who will be no soft touch if Franck Nivard can assure his initial strides.

SELECTIONS
LATINOS DU NOYER (2) – LEO DES MALBERAUX (6) – LUCKY CASTELETS (7) – LIZZANO D’ALOUETTE (4)
C3 – PRIX DE LA PLACE DES VICTOIRES – 2150m (a1m1/4) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 35,000

1. KAMOVA DU RILER – Modest filly that faulted in a 2850m Vincennes claimer a month ago. Won here last season but, in this company, will have too much to do

2. KALINA STAR – Totally off the boil this season, latterly last of 12 in Lisieux race of reference, and can be passed over

3. KIVAOA DU PERCHE – 4th of 12 finishers in a 2800m Bernay Class E on 12 May. Seldom seen racing left-handed but can make a big splash if she turns

4. KATSOUKA – Disappointing so far this season, most recently 7th, behind KOURGA DE LOU (16), in a 2725m Lisieux Class D recently, and others preferred

5. KISS ME DAIDOU – By no means disgraced when 7th of 11 in a 2700m Vincennes Class D mid-May. Back to a more reasonable category and from the 5-spot can return to winning ways

6. KUBITSA – Sanctioned, on re-entry, in a 2700m Vincennes Class D on 15 May, and has no possible chance

7. KALISTA JIEL – 7th of 12, on comeback 2 weeks ago, in a 2550m Reims Class E. Front pads fitted this time but is likely to need the run

8. KULTA – Never far from faulting but reassured when 4th of 12 in a 2625m Class E at La Rochelle early last month and will not be far off the mark if Pierre-Yves Verva keeps her trotting

9. KIARHA DE NAPPES – Has turned a corner since starting to race unshod, latterly 4th of 6 in a 2300m Chartres Class E a fortnight ago, and while yet to excel at Enghien, can still get a look-in

10. KELLY PRINCESSE – Has evident ability but sanctioned in last 6. Eric Raffin gives her a 2nd shot but still not an obvious choice

11. KAMELIE DU CAMPUS – Last of 6 when preparing for this in a 2700m Class D at Le Croisé-Laroche on 22 May. Front shoes off this time and, even from the 2nd line, can make her presence felt

12. KIVA DU LOISIR – Last but one, behind KISS ME DAIDOU (5), in a 2700m Vincennes Class D mid-May. Drops back in category and, although not a player, will still have her supporters

13. KALEA DREAM – Never at her ease when sanctioned in a 2875m Meslay-du-Maine Class D late last month. Showed her form at Caen but others still easier to back

14. KARMINA DU BREUCQ – Made it 5 straight sanctions after faulting in a 2100m Vincennes Class E late last month and, even with hind pads fitted, can expect to have few friends

15. KINJAL DE BELLANDE – 8th, behind KOURGA DE LOU (16), in a 2725m Lisieux Class D 8 days ago, on first start since the break. Races barefoot this time and could pleasantly surprise if Franck Nivard successfully negotiates the start

16. KOURGA DE LOU – Winner at Châteaubriant before coming 5th of 15 in a 2725m Lisieux Class D 8 days ago. Would have finished closer on that occasion had she not faulted briefly and Alexandre Abrivard will be out to set the record straight

Summary: KISS ME DAIDOU (5) drops in class following a respectable performance across town and considering her form, and her position on the front line, she looks good enough to win this. That said, KIVAOA DU PERCHE (3) is plainly close to her race and, reverting to a proven formula,  can play a leading role. KOURGA DE LOU (16) has been handed a shocking draw but has won 3 times for her driver and can do so again, but must first keep her action together. KULTA (8) breaks wide on the front line but showed her form last time out and, with application, can get in on the action.

SELECTIONS
KISS ME DAIDOU (5) – KIVAOA DU PERCHE (3) – KOURGA DE LOU (16) – KULTA (8)
C4 – PRIX DE NEW YORK – 2150m (a1m1/4) – Class A Race – Harness – EUR € 90,000

1. KENNEDY – Returns to Paris after trotting 3rd over a mile in Naples early last month. Appreciates Enghien, races barefoot for the occasion, and will be expected to finish in the mix

2. HARLEM DE BUCY – 6th of 14 in a 2825m GNT Gr.3 at Le Croisé-Laroche on 22 May. Will have come on for the run and, given his references at this level, is unlikely to disappoint

3. BORDEAUX S. – Has been knocking at the door, most recently close 2nd in a 2850m Vincennes Class A mid-May, and is not incapable of setting the cat among the pigeons

4. ENZO D’ESSARTS – Hardy veteran that picked up a 3200m Fougères Class A win on 28 April. Shod as he was last time at the venue and, from the 4-spot, can give this a good go

5. INEXESS BLEU – Excepting the occasional sanction is very hard to fault, proving his form with an authoritative victory in a 2850m Vincennes Class B 2 weeks ago, and will once again take all the beating

6. FINE PERLE OF LOVE – Makes first appearance since coming last but one behind ENZO D’ESSARTS (4) in 3200m Fougères Class A late-April and is not about to cause an upset

7. GALILEO BELLO – Produced a brace of good efforts at Vincennes before trotting 9th of 16 in a GNT Gr.3 over 2800m at Cordemais late-April. Is not about to spring a surprise but is unlikely to be far from the action either

8. DAUGHTER AS – 3rd of 11 over 1600m at Modena on 19 May. Entrusted to Eric Raffin for Enghien debut and while not a leading protagonist, can still pick up a cheque

9. ELVIS D’EVRON – Makes first start since faulting in a 2850m Vincennes monté Class A 12 months ago. Has other priorities and can be disregarded

10. GARDNER SHAW – Faithful servant stepping up in category after finishing 2nd to GOLD MENCOURT (14) in a Class B over track and trip 3 weeks ago. In better company this time though and chances limited

11. HONKY TONK BLUES – 11th of 14 behind INEXESS BLEU (5) in race of reference and can expect to stay friendless in the markets

12. EQUINOXE JIEL – Off the boil for some time, most recently last of 14 in late-May race of reference, and can be ruled out

13. CASH BANK BIGI – Valiant but beaten runner-up to INEXESS BLEU (5) in a 2850m Vincennes Class B 2 weeks ago. Unlikely to turn the tables but can nonetheless confirm

14. GOLD MENCOURT – Opened his 2024 account in a Class B over course and distance 3 weeks ago but, at this level, is not about to repeat

Summary: Excellent winner of a Vincennes Class B a fortnight ago, solidly beating CASH BANK BIGI (13) who won this race 12 months ago, INEXESS BLEU (5) is well-positioned in front, sports modified shoeing, and will be expected to confirm. BORDEAUX S. (3) missed out by little in a competitive event across town last time and will again be competitive for a spot on the podium. HARLEM DE BUCY (2) was untaxed on re-entry late last month and will have his chances if he takes to Enghien conditions.

SELECTIONS
INEXESS BLEU (5) – CASH BANK BIGI (13) – BORDEAUX S. (3) – HARLEM DE BUCY (2)
C5 – PRIX DE LA PORTE DE LA PLAINE – 2875m (a2m) – Class A Race – Harness – EUR € 62,000

1. RED D’OVER – Quickly sanctioned in a 2850m Vincennes Class D. Has pleased in 2 of 3 starts in the capital, returns to racing shod, but can still get a look-in if he stays in stride

2. RAGAZZA DU CHENE – Capable on a good day but has not raced since being sanctioned in a 2850m Vincennes Class A early-April and with shoes on will have little to contribute

3. NIAGARA RIVER – 4th, 2 places behind EDGAR SABA (5) in a 2700m Vincennes Class B mid-May. Alexandre Abrivard reining this time and, given the filly’s speed, should not be underestimated

4. EK DEL RONCO – Returns to racing barefoot after faulting over 2080m at Modena on 19 May and although confirmed racing barefoot, he looks no more than an outsider this time

5. EDGAR SABA – Impressive at the end of the winter meeting across town before the spell. Returned with an excellent 2nd place in a 2700m Vincennes Class B on 15 May, will have come on for the run, and must be considered a player

6. KATAR – Picked up this season where he left off, imposing on re-entry. 4th of 11 in a 2700m Vincennes Class B early last month but faces a much stiffer test on this occasion

7. KIWI DE TREMONT – Pleased in both runs since the break, latterly 4th of 7 finishers in a 2700m Vincennes Class B a fortnight ago. Reunited with David Thomain and will be expected to acquit himself competitively

8. KIRCIE DE GUEZ – Switches code with limited ambition after coming 6th of 8 in a 2700m monté Gr.2 a fortnight ago

9. ELTON WISE – Tricky colt but has references at this level. Was preparing for this when 10th to KANTO AVIS (10) in a 2700m Gr.3 across town 3 weeks ago and, with application, can play a prominent role

10. KANTO AVIS – Has progressed smartly all season, most recently 2nd of 16 in a 2700m Vincennes Gr.3 on 24 May, and looks thoroughly capable of bringing home the bacon

11. KATAKI DE WALLIS – Regularly a case of all-or-nothing. Did not enjoy a good trip when sanctioned in Gr.3 race of reference but gets an Eric Raffin drive this time and should not be ruled out

12. KNOCKONWOOD – Sanctioned in last 4, latterly a 2700m Vincennes Gr.3 on 24 April, and can be confidently disregarded

13. KID BELLAY – Has not been seen out since faulting in a 2200m Vincennes monté Gr.1 early-March. Has other priorities and can be passed over

14. RIKITA JP – Returns to Paris after being sanctioned in a Solvalla Gr.2 over 1640m late last month. Shoes on again but Matthieu Abrivard reining and appears to have a regular first-5 chance

Summary: Not once out of the frame in five starts this year, KANTO AVIS (10) picked up 2nd in a 2700m Vincennes Gr.3 3 weeks ago and, shod as he was that day, can impose this time. Benjamin Rochard can still expect to feel the heat from the excellent Italian import EDGAR SABA (5) who appears to have found his feet since starting to run barefoot, and has earned the right to race at this level. NIAGARA RIVER (3) finished 4th to him last month and will be competitive for a place in the frame, but may first have to see off the complicated but talented ELTON WISE (9) who returns to racing with front shoes off and a good hand to play.

SELECTIONS
KANTO AVIS (10) – EDGAR SABA (5) – ELTON WISE (9) – NIAGARA RIVER (3)
C6 – PRIX DES INVALIDES – 2875m (a2m) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 59,000

1. HUGO D’HERTALS – 6th of 11 in a 2700m Vincennes Class D 3 weeks ago. Is plainly in top shape and the engagement of a leading driver will only work to his advantage

2. HISTORY MAJYC – Goes barefoot for the occasion after trotting 8th of 18 in a 2725m Lisieux Class E late last month, but still represents no more than a minor place prospect

3. GADSEM – Reassuring 2nd of 15 in a 2650m Alençon Class F 2 weeks ago. Cannot be considered a priority but is still capable of pleasantly surprising

4. FELDSPATH THEPOL – Failed to confirm his decent Strasbourg effort when sanctioned in a 2800m Carhaix Class F 3 weeks ago, and is not about to influence the outcome

5. HOKKAIDA – 8th of 14 in a 2850m Laval Class C 10 days ago when being prepped. Goes barefoot with David Thomain reining, but others still preferred

6. GREGOR – Put a pair of disappointments behind him to courageously win a 2850m Class E at Maure-de-Bretagne earlier this month. Raffin in the wagon again and is not incapable of confirming

7. HAIDA SAUTONNE – 5th in a 3150m Class E conditioner at La Roche-Posay on just 2nd start back. Unshod-all-4 this time and, previously a winner here, is unlikely to be far from the action

8. HELIUM DE L’ITON – Looked ordinary before being sanctioned in a 2850m Class E at Maure-de-Bretagne earlier in the month and, even with pads fitted, will pose no danger

9. FARO DU BONANT – Sprang quite the surprise when victorious in a 2800m Carhaix Class F on 26 May, but a repeat seems improbable

10. HARVEST DE BULIERE – Hardy trotter with fine Enghien credentials but is in better condition than it would appear, and is in with a realistic shout of imposing

11. HOTLINE DE CARSI – Last but one in a 2700m Vincennes Class C on re-entry 2 weeks ago. Is still in conditioning-mode though and best to hold off

12. HOBBES – Finished 10th of 16 in a 2850m Vincennes Class D 8 days ago, when denied a run, but can make amends if Alexandre Abrivard keeps him out of trouble

13. GAULTHERIA – 8th of 13 in a 2850m Vincennes Class D on 10 May. Is ideally-engaged this time though and looks the one to beat

Summary: GAULTHERIA (13) benefits from a good entry here, has solid Enghien references, and can finally get back in the winners’ circle. Julien Raffestin will still be keeping a keen eye on HARVEST DE BULIERE (10) who is in his category and who is better than his last 2 results would suggest. Difficult to knock when focused, GREGOR (6) has won 3 of his last 5 and is competitively-shod for the first time at Enghien. Oddly disappointing last time out, HUGO D’HERTALS (1) has otherwise been in excellent shape, starts in front, and with Mathieu Mottier reining, will be afforded every chance.

SELECTIONS
GAULTHERIA (13) – HARVEST DE BULIERE (10) – GREGOR (6) – HUGO D’HERTALS (1)
C7 – PRIX DE LA PLACE BALARD – 2875m (a2m) – Class C Race – Mounted – EUR € 68,000

1. GADGET DU GADE – Made up for his Borély sanction with 2nd in a 2825m Class D at Le Croisé-Laroche on 22 May, and with form maintained, should confirm

2. GIPSY VENESI – Showed improvement when 4th of 8 in a 2950m Vichy Class D on 3 June. Has never delivered here but Alexandre Abrivard in the irons and will pick up a few new friends

3. DETROIT ACE – Disappointing on the whole this season, most recently sanctioned in a 2850m Laval Class C 10 days ago, and can be written off

4. DAHLIA DU PONT – Has struggled to find his way this term, latterly 8th of 15 in a 2850m Laval Class C 10 days ago, and will have few, if any, takers

5. GAVROCHE BEST – Sanctioned in last 4, most recently a 2850m Laval Class C 10 days ago, and is not about to wow the crowds

6. EGINE PRECIEUSE – Pleasantly surprising 3rd behind EXTREME DESBOIS (7) before coming 12th of 15 in a 2700m Vincennes harness Class C conditioner 2 weeks ago and, shod to preference, is back under the saddle with realistic chance of finishing close

7. EXTREME DESBOIS – Lacklustre 9th of 12 in race of reference but pleased here in April, returns to racing barefoot, and will have his supporters

8. GIVE ME – Debuts in the discipline after finishing 11th of 14 in a 2700m Vincennes harness Class C 3 weeks ago. Benjamin Rochard riding but others still preferred

9. FALCON D’ESPACE – Trotted a valiant 3rd to GO OR NOT (17) in late-May race of reference and, similarly configured, can repeat

10. EXCEL D’AMOUR – Modest individual starting for first time since faulting in a 2850m Laval harness Class D late-March. Barefoot again but still not a priority

11. FLUO MESLOIS – Has not been seen out since coming 6th to FORAIN JENILOU (13) in a 2250m Class C here late-March. Is barefoot with Eric Raffin onboard though and is sure to generate interest

12. GRETA – Has references at a similar level but makes first appearance since faulting in a 2850m Vincennes Class B 5 months ago. Shod competitively though and, with some luck in running, can get a look-in

13. FORAIN JENILOU – Reliability not his strong suit but trotted 4th in race of reference. Pads fitted all around this time though and not an obvious choice

14. GALANT GALAA – 6th to GO OR NOT (17) in a 2850m Vincennes Class C on 28 May but has a lot more to find this time around

15. DICK DES MALBERAUX – Sanctioned, when being conditioned, in a 3525m Vichy harness Class A earlier this month and, in the frame in last 2 starts here, must be retained

16. DIXIT DANICA – 7th of 16 in a 2850m Lyon-Parilly harness Class C on 25 May. Unseen under the saddle since December and, even though confirmed here, will have too much to do

17. GO OR NOT – Led the opposition a merry dance in a 2850m Vincennes Class C on 28 May. Has already won at Enghien and looks a serious candidate for the double

Summary: Superbly-engaged at the limit of earnings, GO OR NOT (17) flew up across town late last month and, in similar form, can make this his own. EGINE PRECIEUSE (6) left a good impression here late-April on her return to the discipline and seems the principal threat. 2nd at Le Croisé-Laroche last month, GADGET DU GADE (1) appears to be back at his best and, with application, can go close. Yet to disappoint under the saddle, FALCON D’ESPACE (9) trotted 3rd to the favourite recently and although having little chance of imposing, can still challenge for a place in the frame.

SELECTIONS
GO OR NOT (17) – EGINE PRECIEUSE (6) – GADGET DU GADE (1) – FALCON D’ESPACE (9)
C8 – PRIX DE LEVET – 2875m (a2m) – Class B Race – Harness – EUR € 60,000

1. JEALOUS GIRL – Makes first appearance since finishing 9th of 12 in a 2850m Vincennes Class C last February, and will not be given a hard race

2. JASPER PIYA – Has 2 runs under his belt, latterly 7th to JILORD VIVA (13), in a Class C over 2150m here 3 weeks ago and, even sporting a new configuration, will need to find significantly more

3. JUNIOR ANGELE – Was on a decent run of form before coming 10th of 15, behind JILORD VIVA (13), in a Class C over 2150m here 3 weeks ago, and will need to show marked improvement

4. JUSTICIA SMART – Reunited with Eric Raffin after faulting in a 2850m Vincennes Class B 3 weeks ago, but still not an obvious choice

5. JOUVENCE DE CAREL – 4th of 11 in a 2625m Class D at La Rochelle on 20 May. Shoes back on though and best to keep one’s powder dry

6. JUST A BOY D’ALESA – Has not been seen out since being sanctioned in a 2175m Vincennes Class C last December and will need the run

7. JAB DE MYE – Took little time getting back in shape, coming 4th of 11 finishers in a 2700m Vincennes Class C 2 weeks ago. Seldom disappoints at Enghien and looks a decent first-5 prospect

8. JOLIE COKTAIL – Quality element that finished 3rd, a place behind JUST D’ERONVILLE (12), in a 2850m Vincennes Class C 2 months ago, but appears to be biting off more than she can chew this time

9. JESON BOY – Won a 3000m Marseille-Borély mid-May, at the expense of JUST D’ERONVILLE (12) and will legitimately bid to repeat

10. JULIA QUICK – Was not at her best when faulting in a 2800m Cholet Class C late-April but showed her ability at Vincennes earlier that month and, even against the boys, should not be far from the action

11. JAIN MAB – 5th in a Vincennes Gr.2 before faulting, when full of running, in a Class B over course and distance earlier in the month, and is not one to be overlooked

12. JUST D’ERONVILLE – Untroubled winner of a 2850m Lyon-Parilly Class D on 25 May. Is plainly the type that will appreciate the Enghien profile and can make it 2 on the trot

13. JILORD VIVA – Made no bones about winning a Class C over 2150m here 3 weeks ago and, in similar form, could even confirm

14. JIM PERRINE – Raced respectably to come 6th of 11 finishers in a similar event here 2 weeks ago, but chances slimmer this time around

15. JEWEL DE LA COTE – 6th of 16 in a 2850m Vincennes Class B 3 weeks ago. Is never the easiest to gauge but thrives at Enghien and must not be underestimated

16. JIGSAW PUZZLE – Unexceptional this term, most recently 6th of 12 in a 2150m Vichy Class B just over a month ago, and is unlikely to generate much interest

Summary: A veritable model of consistency, JUST D’ERONVILLE (12) makes his Enghien debut at the top of his game and is marginally preferred to the Matthieu Abrivard-driven JESON BOY (9) who was rewarded with a fine victory at Borély a month back. After a much-needed freshener, JILORD VIVA (13) won convincingly here 3 weeks ago and will again be in the running, as should the talented JULIA QUICK (10) who will be expected to make up for her Cholet disappointment.

SELECTIONS

1. LOZANO (GER) – Makes first appearance since coming last but one in a 2700m Vincennes Class D late-February and, barefoot or not, will need the outing

2. ONE LOVE BIANCA – Consistent for the most part at home in Belgium but sanctioned when beaten in mid-May race of reference and can be ruled out

3. OSCAR VAN HALBEEK – 4th of 15 in a 2100m Vincennes Class C mid-May. Shoes back on though and best to hold off

4. IDAHO (SWI) – 3rd over shorter here before trotting 5th of 11 in a 2700m Vincennes Class D on 19 April. Comes here fresh but still not an obvious choice

5. CAROLYN FRANCIS – Has not been seen out since running 3rd of 14 in a 2850m Vincennes Class D late-January. Shoes on and best to wait

6. CRALGIDO SM – Surprising 6th, behind OSCAR VAN HALBEEK (3), in a 2100m Vincennes Class C a month back but a repeat seems improbable

7. LET IT BE VP – 11th of 12 finishers in a 2100m Vincennes Class E late-April and, with shoes on, will have nothing to contribute

8. NINEPOINTS LASSE – Sanctioned in 5 of last 6, latterly mid-May race of reference, and can be passed over

9. GONNABE SHADOW – Speedy and tenacious, most recently 5th, a place behind OSCAR VAN HALBEEK (3), in a 2100m Vincennes Class C mid-May, and should be able to make the frame this time

10. HALO AM – Won 2 of last 3, most recently a 2200m Caen Class F on 11 May. First time with hind shoes off at Enghien and is eminently capable of doubling his money

11. ILIADE (SWE) – Won over 2100m before coming 3rd of 11 finishers in a 2700m Vincennes Class C 2 weeks ago and looks main danger to HALO AM (10)

12. IOUPY TOLLEVILLE – Normally dependable but disappointing 8th of 11, behind IMOKO ATOUT (15), in a 2700m Vincennes Class D on 24 April. Shoes back on and others preferred

13. IN LOVE DE JIEL – 5th, a place behind IMOKO ATOUT (15), in a 2700m Vincennes Class D 3 weeks ago. Is clearly in form and legitimately bids to keep his unbeaten Enghien record intact

14. HUDSON BAIE – Showed improvement on 2nd start back, coming 6th of 15 in a 3000m Nantes Class F earlier this month. Appreciates Enghien and is unlikely to go home empty-handed

15. IMOKO ATOUT – 4th of 11 in a 2700m Vincennes Class D 3 weeks ago. Has yet to shine at Enghien but, in current condition, is hard to ignore

16. IPSON DU VERNAY – Made it 2 in a row when winning a 2650m Hyères Class E late last month. Yet to prevail at Enghien but boasts an enviable win-rate and, sporting a new configuration, will be expected to give this a good go

Summary: After his lacklustre April Vincennes performance, HALO AM (10) more than made amends at Caen next time and, confirmed at Enghien, can repeat. He will however be pitted against ILIADE (SWE) (11) who has finished runner-up in all 3 starts here and, in present form and with front pads fitted, has a realistic chance of stealing his thunder. GONNABE SHADOW (9) has taken well to French conditions, ran close here 2 months ago and looks competitively well-in, as does IN LOVE DE JIEL (13) who won his only start at the venue.

Summary: KNOXVILLE (5) has been in top form of late over hurdles and was a pleasing third in a Class 2 hurdle at Nantes late in May when last racing. He can win from CALLIANDRA (6)who has been in good form herself of late with two recent good runs at this track in May and most recently on June 1st when she was fourth. C1 – PRIX D’AINAY – 1600m (a1m) – TURF – Class 4 Divided Handicap – Flat – EUR € 15,000

1. TOPINAMBUR – Honest hard-knocker with sound references/form credentials in the handicaps, which include a recent 6th over 1350m at this venue on 1 June. Not taken lightly

2. LES ALDUDES – Won a 1700m turf handicap in February but has struggled since – unplaced in all six subsequent outings, the latest (11th) over 2000m at this venue on 18 May

3. SECRET FEELING – Finished a disappointing 7th in a conditions race over track and trip on 1 June but shouldn’t be condemned for that effort, having beaten TURTLE CHOPE (7) and TO BE QUEEN (4) at Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne before that (over 1700m on 20 May)

4. TO BE QUEEN – Has regained her form and consistency recently having dropped in the weights/ratings – finished 5th off her current mark in a 1700m handicap at Marseille-Borely on 31 May. Candidate for success

5. GALALITHE – Confirmed the form/improvement of her previous outing (3rd in a 1600m ParisLongchamp handicap) with a good 3rd in a mile handicap at Nantes on 30 May. Sets the standard

6. LOVE AFFAIR – Caught the eye when finishing an improved/encouraging 5th in a 1600m Nantes handicap on 30 May. Needs only to repeat that performance to fight for victory

7. TURTLE CHOPE – A two-time winner at this venue but disappointed recently when only 8th at Marseille-Borely in a handicap over 1700m – shouldn’t be hastily condemned

8. JOYEUSE DE ROMAY – Won a 1600m Vichy handicap last month but struggled to maintain that form and competitiveness under a 2,5kg penalty when only 9th in a 1700m handicap at Marseille-Borely on 31 May

9. OPERA – Consistent filly with sound references/form credentials, albeit without a victory after 24 starts. Has no more than a place chance here after finishing 7th over 1600m at Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne on 20 May

10. LONG STORY SHORT – Bounce back to form with a reassuring 3rd in a 1500m PSF handicap at Marseille-Vivaux on 24 May. Will need to confirm that form/improvement to play a leading role

11. GOLDEN BEACH – Consistent handicapper with solid form credentials – has finished in the top four in each of his last 7 starts, including his lastest (4th) over 1600m in a Vichy handicap on 15 May. Keep safe

12. JOHN STYLE – A 14-start maiden with just a solitary place on his record. Didn’t finish far off the mark in a 1350m handicap at this venue off his current mark on 1 June

13. CHONATA – Honest hard-knocker who seldom wins her races (just 1 victory from 27 starts) but rarely finishes far off the mark. Acquitted herself well (5th) in a 1600m handicap at Vichy on 15 May

14. MAKHZEN – One of several hard-knocking veteran handicappers in the race – seldom finishes far off the mark and wasn’t disgraced when finishing 7th in a 1700m handicap at Marseille-Borely on 31 May

15. TICKLISH – Versatile, hard-knocking veteran mare with sound references in handicaps – seldom far off the mark. Didn’t go unnoticed when 5th in a 1600m handicap at Compiegne on 24 May

16. LAWRENCE – Inconsistent veteran but has references in the handicaps off his current mark, which includes finishing 4th in back-to-back outings before his latest failure (12th) in a 1300m handicap at Saint-Cloud on 25 May

Summary: GALALITHE (5) has proven her form/well-being and competitiveness off her current mark in back-to-back handicaps last month (confirmed the improvement of her 4th at ParisLongchamp with a good 3rd at Nantes last time) and she ought to recapture the winning thread in this opening event with a repeat of either performance. TURTLE CHOPE (7), a three-time course winner, isn’t hastily condemned after her Marseille-Borély failure and retains the means to pose a threat. LOVE AFFAIR (6), TO BE QUEEN (4), SECRET FEELING (3) and LONG STORY SHORT (10) are contenders for the remaining podium berth.

1. OZAT – Runner-up in his first 2 starts (both over 1600m) at Saint-Cloud earlier this year and lost little in defeat when 3rd over a mile at Chantilly on 26 April. Makes obvious appeal – the one to beat

2. BUSTOPHER JONES – Failed to improve, following an introductory 7th on PSF, when switched to turf at Le Croise-Laroche (1800m) on 20 April, finishing a well-beaten 14th. Others preferred

3. SUPER TIE BREAK – Has finished 2nd in 2 of 4 appearances and wasn’t disgraced, although slightly disappointing, when 4th over 2000m at Marseille-Borely on 27 May. Not taken lightly

4. ISTANBLUE – Finished an encouraging 5th on debut at Deauville on PSF over 1500m (on 15 December). Supplemented for this race and likely to go well on his reappearance – chief threat to the selection

5. LAST STAND – Lightly raced colt with sound references, including a respectable 5th over 1800m at Evreux on 22 May. Has a place chance

6. MAITRE D’ARMES – Improved markedly after a modest debut (11th) to finish 2nd over 1700m at Granville on 19 May. Could have more to offer

7. CHAMBERI – Unplaced in all 4 appearances, the latest on handicap debut in a 1600m Quinte+ at Saint-Cloud on 1 May. Should find this easier but must improve to be competitive

8. SPEAKER – Was slightly disappointing when only 8th of 11 on debut over 1400m at Le Mans on 15 May. Would’ve gained from that experience

9. RIVER FALLS – Well-bred Dubawi filly who would’ve benefitted from the experience of her debut 7th at Compiegne (1600m) on 31 May. Keep safe as improvement is expected

10. BEG MEIL – Made no impression on debut (11th) at Strasbourg and only finished 7th over 2000m at Nancy on 22 May, so is best watched for now

11. ZAMANIE – Has never been worse than 5th (on debut) in her 6 starts – was 4th twice and 3rd twice before improving to finish 2nd over 1600m at Le Mans on 15 May. Not taken lightly

Summary: OZAT (1) has revealed considerable promise in his 3 starts, finishing 2nd twice, and has a good opportunity to open his account. Returning ISTANBLUE (4), who was supplemented for this race, caught the eye when finishing 5th in a competitive/quality field on debut last year and is open to any amount of improvement on his belated (eagerly anticipated) reappearance, so could pose a threat. MAITRE D’ARMES (6), after a much-improved 2nd at Granville, and likely improvers RIVER FALLS (9) and SPEAKER (8), both of whom would’ve benefitted from introductory outings, appeal most of the remainder.

OZAT (1) – ISTANBLUE (4) – MAITRE D’ARMES (6) – RIVER FALLS (9)
C3 – PRIX DES TERREAUX – 1600m (a1m) – TURF – Class 4 Divided Handicap – Flat – EUR € 17,000

1. PITRIZZA – Lacks references on turf and has made all her handicap appearances on PSF. Was 5th in consecutive recent claimers on that surface, the latest over 1500m at Marseille-Vivaux on 24 May

2. BREIZH MOON – Has achieved her best references on PSF but has revealed sufficient means in 3 turf appearances, the latest (6th) in a 1700m handicap at Marseille-Borely on 31 May. Dark horse

3. SAGE DREAM – Returned to form with course-and-distance success in the key benchmark race on 1 June. Ought to remain competitive

4. HOOLONG – Bounced back to form with a reassuring 2nd in a 1600m handicap at Vichy on 15 May. Needs only to confirm that improvement to play a leading role

5. SICILIA – Confirmed the form/improvement of her previous appearance (4th) with an encouraging 3rd behind SAGE DREAM (3) and GRAY BELLE (8) in the reference race over track and trip on 1 June. Keep safe

6. NO CURE NO PAY – Soundly beaten in 3 starts this year, all in PSF handicaps – the latest (14th) at Deauville over 1400m back on 10 April

7. SLEEPY SUZY – Ultra-consistent mare with solid form references/credentials, having finished in the top 5 five in her last 14 outings. Caught the eye when 4th in a 1700m handicap at Marseille-Borely on 31 May

8. GREY BELLE – Beaten by SAGE DREAM (3) when finishing 2nd in the reference race over track and trip on 1 June. Could turn the tables on these revised weight terms

9. FALCON – Yet to finish better than 4th (once) in 7 starts but wasn’t disgraced when 6th in a 1600m handicap on 24 May at Compiegne. Outsider

10. TOUTELUSIVE – Honest hard-knocker with sound references in handicaps on both surfaces. Didn’t go unnoticed when 6th in a 1200m handicap at Marseille-Borely on 7 June

11. O’MONERIE – A winner under  Alexis Pouchin at Cagnes-sur-Mer in February. Has finished 6th in 3 consecutive/subsequent outings, the latest over track and trip on 1 June

12. LORLISALSA – Won a 1600m course-and-distance in April but has struggled under a penalty – unplaced in her 2 subsequent outings (8th in both), the latest over track and trip on 1 June

13. I’M ON MY WAY – Won a 2000m PSF handicap in January but has struggled since – unplaced in all six subsequent outings, the latest (12th) over 2100m in a handicap at ParisLongchamp on 26 May

14. CLEMENZA – Consistent filly with sound references/form credentials, including a creditable 4th in a Vichy handicap over 1600m last month. Finished 4th again in a conditions race over track and trip on 1 June

15. MARGUNS – Raised 1kg after consecutive 1600m conditions race victories at Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne recently, the latest on 1 May. Not taken lightly back in a handicap

16. COLBY CHOP – A versatile, hard-knocking handicapper who seldom wins his races but rarely finishes far off the mark. Didn’t go unnoticed when 4th in a 1500m PSF handicap at Marseille-Vivaux on 24 May

17. ELAUNEIL – Fourth at the end of a good end of the race on June 8 even here on the longer side, she can take advantage of her small weight.

Summary: GRAY BELLE (8) returned to form with an encouraging 2nd in a course-and-distance conditions race, won by SAGE DREAM (3), at the beginning of the month and needs only to confirm that improvement to avenge that defeat on slightly better (0,5kg) weight terms. That latter, on the evidence of that recent victory, remains a candidate for success, along with SICILIA (5) who was 3rd in that benchmark event and will race with first-time blinkers fitted. Consistent SLEEPY SUZY (7) isn’t underestimated and should acquit herself competitively, too.

C4 – PRIX DU CHAMP DE MARS – 1350m (a7f) – TURF – Class 3 Handicap – Flat – EUR € 20,000

1. HAYEJOHN – Consistent hard-knocker with sound references in the handicaps off a higher mark. Finished 11th in recent Quinte+ handicaps, at Chantilly over 1200m and, most recently, over track and trip on 18 May. Dark horse

2. ARDITO – Revealed early promise but was sparingly raced last year and, on the evidence of his reappearance (11th) at Compiegne over 1400m on 31 May, appears to have lost his way. Others preferred on his handicap debut

3. VERDANSK – Made a winning start on Fernch soil over 1400m at Saint-Cloud in April but finished unplaced in subsequent outings, the latest over 1200m at Saint-Cloud on 25 May. Best kept safe in his first handicap start in France

4. CENTENARIO – Made an encouraging reappearance on 18 May when winning a course-and-distance handicap on his return from an 8-month absence and a resultant 3kg penalty isn’t likely to halt his momentum. One to beat

5. CROWDFUNDING – Confirmed the promise of his comeback (4th) at Divonne by winning over 1700m at Saint-Brieuc on 9 May, so has to be taken seriously off an unchanged mark. Competed at Group III level as a three-year-old

6. IMPITOYABLE – Returned to form with a reassuring/improved 2nd in a 1350m claimer at Angers on 21 May and reverts to the handicaps off of a reduced (1kg) mark. Candidate for success

7. ACCLAM – Didn’t go unnoticed when finishing 5th behind CENTENARIO (4) over this track and trip on 18 May. Not taken lightly

8. MANAROLA – Would’ve regained freshness after a disappointing 8th in a 1200m handicap at Marseille-Borely on 24 April. Has won on this course

9. MICHELANGELO – Bounced back to form, having dropped to his current mark, with an improved 2nd in a conditions race over 1200m at Marseille-Borely on 27 May. Needs to confirm that improvement to have a say

10. CERVARO – Unplaced in all 5 starts this year and has dropped in the weights/rating a total of 2,5kg as a result. Best just to watch after a disappointing 9th in a 1200m conditions race at Marseille-Borely on 27 May

11. IDAMANTE – Lightly raced four-year-old gelding with sound references/form credentials, including a creditable 5th on his handicap debut at Toulouse (1400m). Must bounce back from his 7th in a 1350m claimer at Angers (21 May)

12. ETERNEL – Unreliable colt with inconsistent handicap form, albeit off higher marks. Dropped another 1kg after finishing a well-beaten 14th in a 1600m handicap at Saint-Cloud on 14 May

Summary: CENTENARIO (4) made light of an eight-month absence by winning on his reappearance at this venue on 18 May and is, with the likelihood of improvement given that comeback outing, good value to follow up under a resultant 2kg penalty. However, he will be tested by resurgent IMPITOYABLE (6) who caught the eye when an encouraging 2nd last time out. CROWDFUNDING (5), after a recent conditions race victory, should also be competitive for the leading places off an unchanged mark. VERDANSK (3) and ACCLAM (7) complete the shortlist.
