French Selections Thursday 11th

R1 PORNICHET [L-H]
C1 – PRIX HOTEL ESCALE OCEANIA PORNICHET – 2725m (a1m1/2) – Class F Race – Harness – EUR € 20,000

1. J’Y PENSE – Sanctioned in a 2850m Class E at Maure-de-Bretagne early last month and, in current form, has no possible chance

2. JAVA DU PLESSIS – Showed improvement when 2nd of 10 in a 2800m Rambouillet Class F mid-June but appears to be biting off more than she can chew this time

3. JEWEL CASH – Delicate but very talented type making first appearance since last December. Front shoes off but will need the race

4. JAMAICA DE LOU – Disappointing in all 4 starts this term, most recently faulting in a 3200m Montmirail Class F on 30 June. Front shoes off again and the engagement of Paul Ploquin must be seen as a positive sign. Outsider of interest

5. JUST RAPID – Has been in fine shape this season, barring 3 sanctions, latterly in a 2800m Moulins-la-Marche Class F late last month. In better company this time but, if applied, can nevertheless get in on the action

6. JACOB DE MIENNAIS – Useful for the most part when focused but lacklustre 12th of 14 in a 2875m Meslay-du-Maine Class E late-June and must first reassert his credentials

7. JEAN MAJYC – Raced better in a 2050m Cabourg Class F 9 days ago than his 5th place would suggest and should be competitive for a place in the frame

8. JONCTION HAUFOR – Sanctioned in a 2950m Vichy Class E a fortnight ago when clearly going well. Never easy to gauge but reverts to a previous formula and will have a lot to offer if Damien Bonne keeps her trotting

9. JOW PIQUENARD – Somewhat below-par 5th of 14 in a Class F over course and distance a week ago. Champion driver reining this time and can impose

10. JEROMINUS TURGOT – Drops in class after coming 5th of 16 in a 2150m Enghien Class E late last month. Trainer back in the wagon and has every chance of opening his summer account

11. JOUEUR DU LUPIN – Won a 2825m Chartres Class E 2 months ago. Comes here fresh and, even though shod this time, still looks a respectable first-5 prospect

Summary: Nicely-engaged here and currently enjoying a good run of form, JEROMINUS TURGOT (10) takes a dip in category and looks thoroughly capable of winning a race of this nature. Similarly on a fine streak, JOW PIQUENARD (9) did not however live up to expectations here last week, but with Eric Raffin reining, can put things right. JEAN MAJYC (7) made up for his Amiens sanction earlier this month and the engagement of Benjamin Rochard will only work in his favour. Calling the reconfigured JONCTION HAUFOR (8) complicated may be something of an understatement but her talent is not in doubt and, with application, can make a big splash.

SELECTIONS
JEROMINUS TURGOT (10) – JOW PIQUENARD (9) – JEAN MAJYC (7) – JONCTION HAUFOR (8)
C2 – PRIX JLR – 2650m (a1m1/2) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 23,000

1. IDEAL DE SASSY – Good campaigner that is clearly back at his best, most recently 3rd of 11 in a 2700m Vire Class E on 1 July, but could have gone closer that day and can impose this time

2. IDEFIX DES LANDES – Courageous 4th of 11 in a 2850m Laval Class D a month back. Enjoys a good spot behind the car and has the wherewithal to make a big splash on Pornichet debut

3. IGOR VICKING – Not short of ability but disappointing of late. Faulted in a 2825m Chartres Class D late-June and despite a decent draw here, nevertheless appears to have too much to do

4. IBLIS GEMA – Decent 4th of 11 finishers in a 2850m Laval Class F last week. Benjamin Rochard in the wagon this time and, ideally-positioned in front, will afford his charge every chance

5. CRALGIDO SM – Has ample ability but sanctioned in a 2850m Vincennes Class D 2 weeks ago. Sports a previous configuration, with Eric Raffin reining, and will not be far from the action if he can keep him trotting

6. I KEEP CALM – Won at Laval late-April but has twice failed to confirm, most recently 6th behind IDEFIX DES LANDES (2) in a 2850m Laval Class D mid-June. Has won twice at Pornichet in the day’s configuration and must not be overlooked

7. IDEAL DU DIGEON – Very hard to fault in last 3 starts, most recently 3rd of 13 in a 3200m Montmirail Class E on Sunday. Has no references here, and starts wide, but is fitted with front pads and will be competitive for a minor place cheque

8. ILMAT DES KECHES – Quality element that came 4th of 12 in a 2800m Pontchâteau Class D early last month but shoes back on this time and best to wait

9. CETIZ – Handy Italian mare taking first steps on French soil. 2nd over 2100m in Naples late May, comes here fresh and unshod behind, and while not a priority, Paul Ploquin reins and will have her supporters

10. CAROLYN FRANCIS – Unplaced in both starts since returning to competition, latterly last of 10 in a 2850m Vincennes Class D a fortnight ago, and can be ruled out

11. LET IT BE VP – Has little to write home about since coming south. Sanctioned in a 2850m Vincennes Class D late June and has no realistic chance

12. BOLD REQUEST – Fine Swedish raider making French debut off the back of a good 3rd over 2140m at Solvalla late-May. Has had time to acclimatise and will be expected to put on a fine show. Chance

13. INTREPIDE DES BOIS – No slouch on a good day and most recently 4th of 10 finishers in a 2100m Vincennes amateurs Class G a month ago but has little going his way here and others preferred

Summary: Tenacious winner at Caen before placing at Vire 10 days ago, IDEAL DE SASSY (1) benefits from a good entry, races with just hind shoes for the occasion, and Damien Bonne will be loathe to pass up such a good opportunity. BOLD REQUEST (12) is forced to break from the 2nd line but has serious form at home in Sweden and, even though shod for the occasion, can figure prominently. IDEFIX DES LANDES (2) scored at La Roche-Posay before pleasing at Laval and from the 2-spot, looks a player. CRALGIDO SM (5) is not the easiest of horses to handle but is shod differently this time and will be no pushover if he stays in stride.

SELECTIONS
IDEAL DE SASSY (1) – BOLD REQUEST (12) – IDEFIX DES LANDES (2) – CRALGIDO SM (5)
C3 – PRIX BEL AIR CAMPING – PORNICHET – 2725m (a1m1/2) – Class F Race – Mounted – EUR € 20,000

1. IRPIEU DE VARVILLE – Imposed at Maure late-April but failed to confirm when 6th of 7 in a 2800m Chartres Class F 3 weeks ago. Similarly-shod and redemption anticipated

2. HERACLES DU LAYON – 6th of 8 finishers in a Class F under these conditions last week and can be confidently ruled out

3. ILDA DE BERTRANGE – Returns shod to the monté code after trotting 3rd of 13 in a 2825m Sablé-sur-Sarthe harness Class F on 30 June. Sanctioned, however, in all 3 previous monté starts and can expect to have few takers

4. HUNE DE CONDE – Sanctioned in a 2725m harness Class F here last week. Has never made any impact under the saddle, has been disappointing since 2022, and will have few, if any, friends

5. IN LOVE DE L’ITON – 5th, a place behind HERACLES DU LAYON (2), in a 2850m Laval Class F 2 weeks ago. Leading jockey onboard this time around and can wrap this up

6. ISABELLA KILY – Pulled-up in a 2825m Vire Class F 10 days ago. Is never easy to gauge but hind shoes off this time and will have her supporters

7. IQUEM NARCY – Has not been seen out since faulting in a 2800m Cholet Class F early-May. Debuts for the Bonne stable and, barefoot for the occasion, will have a lot to contribute if focused

8. IF DE LA COUDRE – 9th of 12 when preparing for this in a 2800m Chartres harness Class F 3 weeks ago. Has shown significant potential under the saddle and must not be underestimated

9. IOKO TARTIFUME – Made up for his May sanction when 4th of 7 in a 2800m Class G at Castéra-Verduzan 11 days ago. Front pads fitted but still has more to find

10. HELEGANE JASMA – Disappointing on the whole for some time, most recently 7th of 10 in a 2825m Class F at Sablé-sur-Sarthe late last month, and can be passed over

11. IONA GENDREENNE – Barring the occasional sanction is seldom far off the mark. Encouraging 2nd of 8 finishers in a 2900m Bourigny Class F on 22 June and, on good behaviour, can trot her way into the money

12. IMPACTS LUDOIS – Useful in both codes, but surprisingly sanctioned in a 2200m Vichy Class G on 25 June. Back to racing left-handed and should logically make amends. Place prospect

13. HERACLES DU LILAS – Has merit but totally off the boil this year. Faulted in a 2700m Segré harness Class F mid-June and must get his act together

Summary: In form and back on the right road following a series of clinkers, IN LOVE DE L’ITON (5) is barefoot for the occasion, with Eric Raffin in the irons, and is in with a realistic shout of winning this. IQUEM NARCY (7) is a tough nut when focused, makes his first appearance for his new handler and, with application, can play a leading role. Winner at Maure-de-Bretagne before being sanctioned at Vichy, IMPACTS LUDOIS (12) has previously won at Pornichet and must be taken seriously. Relatively new to the monté discipline, IF DE LA COUDRE (8) left a very good impression at Chartres 2 months ago and returns to the code with legitimate ambition.

SELECTIONS
IN LOVE DE L’ITON (5) – IQUEM NARCY (7) – IMPACTS LUDOIS (12) – IF DE LA COUDRE (8)
C4 – PRIX DU CASINO PARTOUCHE DE PORNICHET – 2725m (a1m1/2) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 34,000

1. HYSOPE DU BOCAGE – Has thrived since returning to racing barefoot, latterly 4th of 14 in a 2700m Segré Class E  11 days ago. Boasts a fine record at the venue and, from the front row, can give this a good go

2. HELIOS DJEMA – Unbeaten in 4 starts this year, latterly romping in a 2625m Cherbourg Class E on 16 June. Front pads fitted again and will take all the beating

3. HURRICANE WIND – Authoritative winner of a 2875m Enghien amateurs Class F, on re-entry, late last month.  Eric Raffin in the sulky this time and looks main threat to HELIOS DJEMA (2)

4. HAUTENTICA – Reassuring 3rd of 17 in a 2675m Class D at Le Mont-Saint-Michel 2 weeks ago. Starts on the front line but cannot be considered a priority

5. GENERAL DE CONNEE – Generous type that came 2nd of 13, at 23/1, in a 2450m Caen Class F on 24 June. Change of drivers but not an obvious choice this time around

6. GAROU PIERJI – 7th to FINGER DES BORDES (8) in a 2800m Pontchâteau Class E mid-June, when being conditioned. Shoes on and best to hold off

7. HASUR DAIRPET – Took some time to get going this term but runner-up in last 2, latterly to FINGER DES BORDES (8) in a 2800m Pontchâteau Class E mid-June, but represents no more than a minor place chance

8. FINGER DES BORDES – Imposed at Pontchâteau at 100/1 mid-June before coming 6th, behind GIANINA BELLA (9), in a 2700m Vincennes Class D 3 weeks ago. Is no champion but nevertheless has the capacity to pick up come crumbs

9. GIANINA BELLA – Blows hot and cold but is plainly in form, most recently 4th of 16 in a 2700m Vincennes Class D 3 weeks ago. Olivier Raffin reins this time and will be competitive for a first-5 spot

10. GOLD D’ECROVILLE – Sprang an 18/1 surprise winning a 2750m Class E at La Capelle on 16 June, but a repeat seems improbable

11. HAITIAN FIGHT SONG – Would have finished 2nd/3rd behind HELIOS DJEMA (2) in a 2625m Cherbourg Class E on 16 June had she stayed in stride. Benjamin Rochard at the helm this time and should figure prominently if he can keep her trotting

12. HERO SIBEY – Facile winner of a 2975m Jallais Class E mid-June. Has never disappointed here, incurs the penalty but Eric Raffin will be ably replaced by Damien Bonne this time. Chance

13. FOGO PICO – Sanctioned twice after winning at Vincennes, most recently in a 2950m Vichy Class D mid-June, and others easier to trust

14. FEELING BOY – Disappointing of late despite having bags of ability. Sanctioned in a 2100m Vincennes Class C on 23 June and must get his house in order

15. GLOIRE DU LUPIN – 13th of 16, on return to competition, in a 2675m Class D at Le Mont-Saint-Michel a fortnight ago. Front shoes off this time and, if fully fit, can get a look-in

Summary: Winner of all four starts since the turn of the year, HELIOS DJEMA (2) stormed up at Cherbourg last time out and from the front line, can make it 5 on the trot. Leading the opposition is the similarly well-placed, and reconfigured, HURRICANE WIND (3) whose recent return to competition was simply astonishing. HERO SIBEY (12) has 25m more to travel but has been superb so far this season and, reverting to a proven formula, looks dangerous. Very hard to knock for the past 2 months, HYSOPE DU BOCAGE (1) is not to be ignored.

SELECTIONS
HELIOS DJEMA (2) – HURRICANE WIND (3) – HERO SIBEY (12) – HYSOPE DU BOCAGE (1)
C5 – PRIX JOCKIZ – 2725m (a1m1/2) – Class F Race – Harness – EUR € 17,500

1. KRUNCH FOR MONEY – Sanctioned as often as not, most recently in a 2525m Class F at Les Andelys 11 days ago, and can expect to remain friendless

2. KONG DODVILLE – Has won 2 of 3 to date, latterly with style in a 2850m Laval Class G 8 days ago, and has every chance of repeating

3. KETBERNY – Not without merit and 5th to KSAR DE MONE (4) in a 2975m Jallais Class F mid-June, but in this category will have too much to do

4. KSAR DE MONE – Has looked a different horse of late, most recently 2nd of 14 in a 2975m Jallais Class F mid-June. In a tougher field this time but can still play a small role

5. KAISER FROMENTRO – Got off the mark in a 2550m Beaumont-de-Lomagne Class F late last month, at the 18th time of asking. Unlikely to repeat but, with form maintained, can figure prominently

6. KLASSIC WINNER – Took some time to come to hand this term but reassured when 3rd of 9 finishers in a 2850m Maure-de-Bretagne Class F early last month, and will not be sent out at 54/1 this time

7. KRONOS DES LANDES – Placed in 2 minor events before faulting early in a 2800m Chartres Class E late last month and is being aimed too high here

8. KAFU – Came in a good 4th of 12 finishers in a Class F over course and distance last week and, competitively-shod, is unlikely to disappoint. Place chance

9. KING SUN DRALIAM – Unraced since coming 6th of 9 in a 2700m Graignes Class E last November and is unlikely to spring any surprises

10. KOBE BEJI – Has found his way since starting to race unshod-behind. 4th of 10 in a 2825m Class F at Le Croisé-Laroche on 24 June and will be worth keeping an eye on

11. KENTUCKY DERBY – Difficult type but won a 2200m Vichy Class F smartly late last month. Nivard appoints Ploquin to take over in the sulky and he will be expected to apply the pressure on KONG DODVILLE (2). Chance

12. KOKTAIL LUDOIS – 2nd only to a very good horse in a 2950m Vichy Class E 10 days ago. Entrusted to a leading driver for the occasion and is not to be underestimated

13. KOKO DU CANTER – 2nd on return to competition late-May before winning a 2700m Segré Class F in the middle of June. Steps up in category but still looks good enough to hold his own

Summary: One of the least-experienced horses in the field, KONG DODVILLE (2) has nonetheless displayed excellent aptitude for the game and, reunited with Eric Raffin who guided him to maiden victory, will be expected to confirm his recent Laval success. It will not be all plane sailing though if the tricky KENTUCKY DERBY (11) can replicate his recent Vichy romp. The consistent KAFU (8) left a good impression here a week ago and, with front shoes off this time, will be expected to go closer. KOKTAIL LUDOIS (12) got back down to business at Vichy recently and Benjamin Rochard has been engaged to ensure a more competitive performance.

SELECTIONS

C6 – PRIX CUISINE PLUS – 2725m (a1m1/2) – Class F Race – Harness – EUR € 17,500

1. KIZIA STAR – Back on the right road following a couple of mid-season blips, coming 2nd of 9 in a 2500m Questembert Class H late last month. Takes a significant step up in category but pleased on lone start with Matthieu Abrivard reining

2. KATOUNE DE MAI – Modest filly that finished last but one in a 2775m Craon Class F just under 3 weeks ago and will struggle to make any impact

3. KAMILLA FRANCE – Showed promise at 3 but below-par this year. Came 7th of 12 in a 2850m Laval Class E on 13 June and is not about to shake things up

4. KARLESS DANICA – Took no time getting down to business following her long layoff, latterly winning a 2525m Class F at Les Andelys 11 days ago. Hind shoes off for the first time and despite the step up in category, looks competitive for a payday

5. KERMESSE DU PARC – Has progressed respectably, most recently trotting 2nd of 11 in a 2625m Class F at Saint-Jean-de-Monts late last month. Shoes back on though and best to hold off

6. KAHIRA DES MARES – Disappointing since winning at Graignes in April. Reverts to racing unshod-behind and can make up for faulting in a 2850m Class F at Maure-de-Bretagne early-June

7. KYOKA BOCNEUF – 6th of 11 finishers in a 2825m Sablé-sur-Sarthe Class F on 30 June and will need to raise her game considerably

8. KELLE BELLE JASMA – Lost her maiden tag in a 2975m Jallais Class F on 16 June. Will have come on for the run, comes here with morale intact, and looks a player

9. KANAILLE DU LUPIN – Serious future prospect that was sanctioned on re-entry early-June in a 2650m Alençon Class F. Has never disappointed when shod and is capable of giving KISS ME DU BOULAY (10) a run for her money

10. KISS ME DU BOULAY – Quality filly that was a surprisingly lacklustre 10th of 12 in a 2850m Laval Class E on 13 June but Yvonnick Dousset will be loathe to allow the same thing to happen a second time. Claim

11. KAIPIRINHA – Last of 4 finishers, but did not disappoint, in a 2600m Class F at La Roche-Posay on 23 June. Has a lot going for her this time and will be no shrinking violet

12. KALIAH DES LANDES – Rather disappointing 6th of 8 in a 2800m Chartres Class E on 30 June. Sébastien Hardy could not have hoped for a better entry though and looks a decent first-5 prospect

Summary: Simply superb in her first three starts this year, KISS ME DU BOULAY (10) should not be too hastily judged for her recent clinker and can more than make amends by winning this. She will still come up against resistance from the likes of the tricky KANAILLE DU LUPIN (9) who returns to racing barefoot, and a similarly unshod KELLE BELLE JASMA (8) who got that maiden monkey off her back last time out. KAIPIRINHA (11) has yet to get off the mark but she sports a new configuration, with Eric Raffin reining, and will also have her chances.

C7 – PRIX GCA TOYOTA ST NAZAIRE – 2650m (a1m1/2) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 20,000

1. LORD DAIRPET – Disappointing on the whole this year but showed improvement when 6th of 7 in a 2800m Chartres Class D 3 weeks ago. Unlikely to cause an upset but can still make first 5

2. LINCOLN HAWK – Made amends for his debut fault when scoring nicely in a 2225m Laon Class F a month back and is well-positioned to give this a good go. Place chance

3. LEELOO MATCH – Failed to confirm her late-June performance when 9th of 12 in a 2950m Vichy Class E 9 days ago, and can be passed over

4. LUTIN JABA – Won at Durtal mid-June before faulting, when full of running, in a 2950m Vichy Class E 9 days ago, but can play a leading role if he stays in stride

5. LOUISIANE LEMAN – Serious future prospect that came a very good 3rd of 10 in a 2850m Laval Class E late-May. Comes here fresh and, from the front line, can bring home the bacon

6. LAUREL – Below-par in last 2, latterly last but one in a 2200m Vichy monté Class E 10 days ago, and his left-handed references are unlikely to cut the mustard

7. LAZIO – Takes first public harness steps after winning a 2825m monté Class F at Sablé-sur-Sarthe on 9 June. Has had time to recuperate and can make a big impact if form transitions. Chance

8. L’ENCYCLOPEDIE – Form has regressed since imposing on debut, most recently 8th of 12 finishers in a 2200m Caen Class D late last month, but has merit and will generate some interest

9. LYMKA PRINCESSE – Sanctioned in all 3 starts to date, and has not raced since December. Disregard

Summary: Winner on debut 2 months ago, LOUISIANE LEMAN (5) subsequently left another good impression at Laval next time and will take some beating. That said, the progressive LAZIO (7) recently lost her monté maiden status and could well repeat first time under harness. JMB’s complicated LUTIN JABA (4) would have finished close at Vichy had he stayed in stride and Romain Congard will be out to make up for his boss’s ‘error’. Put away for 2 months after his debut sanction, LINCOLN HAWK (2) did everything right at Laon last month and must be respected.

SELECTIONS

C8 – PRIX UP 2 PLAY – 2725m (a1m1/2) – Class G Amateur Drivers Race – Harness – EUR € 6,000

1. HORYVIL DES MOYEUX – Returned to victorious ways late last month, winning a 3450m amateurs Class H at Agon-Coutainville. Goes shod this time but is not incapable of repeating

2. HARCANGE – 5th of 10 when preparing for this in a 2600m amateurs Class H at Saint-Pierre-la-Cour in middle of June. Pleased on lone appearance here and, with front shoes off this time, can play a leading role

3. GALET DU LEON – Unlucky 5th of 14 finishers in a 2775m Craon amateurs Class G on 23 June. Has already won twice this term and, from the front row, can set the record straight

4. HABANO DE GENNES – Disappointing since winning at Meslay earlier in the year, most recently 7th of 9 finishers in a 2700m Erbray amateurs Class H on Sunday, and backs up with limited prospects

5. HOLY D’AIMTE – 4th of 8 finishers in a 3100m amateurs Class H at Nort-sur-Erdre early last month. Has never delivered at the venue but at this level, looks a serious proposition

6. GARDE A VOUS COSSE – Honest type but disappointing 10th of 12 in a 3100m amateurs Class H at La Gacilly last weekend. Breaks in front but still not easy to make a case

7. HERMINE SIMARDIERE – 5th of 13 in a 2850m Laval amateurs monté Class G 8 days ago. Barefoot this time but is here for a change of scenery and can be passed over

8. HERMIONE DARCHE – Considerably better than her recent 8th of 12 in a 2675m Erbray amateurs Class H performance would suggest. Benefits from a front-row start and, even with shoes on, warrants respect

9. FANNY CAT – Reassuring 5th of 12 in a Class H under similar conditions here last Saturday. Just front shoes off this time and, from the 2nd line, will need to find more

10. FAB RUSH – Last but one when preparing for this in a 2500m Molières Class H last Sunday. Excels at Pornichet and even with shoes on, can make his presence felt

11. GUIGNOL DES FORGES – Has not been seen out since faulting in a 2300m Le Mans monté Class F last October. Shoes on and no threat

12. FUNKY JULRY – Respectable 6th of 13 in a 2800m amateurs Class F at Sablé-sur-Sarthe late last month but needs to take his game up a level in order to compete for a slice of the pie

13. EQUALITY – Can prove a handful but reassured when 6th of 8 in a 2725m Cabourg amateurs Class F last week. Has nothing to prove in this category and can get a look-in

14. FIFTY WINNER – Has decent amateur references, and has won here, but sanctioned in a 2975m Jallais Class H early-May. Comes here fresh but still not easy to like

15. ECRIN DU LAYON – 10th of 12, behind HERMINE SIMARDIERE (7), in a 2850m Laval amateurs Class G last week. Just hind shoes on this time but is still out of his depth

Summary: Front-row starters have the advantage here and GALET DU LEON (3) can expect significant support considering he would have won at Craon had he not faulted turning for home. François Berthault will nonetheless be keeping a keen eye on the unshod-behind HOLY D’AIMTE (5) who has taken well to the new category, and the in-form, and reconfigured, HARCANGE (2) who has come close more than once this term. HORYVIL DES MOYEUX (1) is back doing what he does best in the amateur category and even though shod this time, still looks a player.
