Godolphin’s 2024 Doncaster Mile runner-up Pericles opens favourite for Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield

Top Godolphin galloper Pericles is the opening favourite for Saturday’s Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield.
Pericles, who ran second to Celestial Legend in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile at his last outing, is one of 15 entries for the $300,000 contest, which is the unofficial start of the spring’s weight-for-age program. TAB installed Pericles as $3 opening favourite in its ‘all-in’ market on the PB Lawrence Stakes after the gelding’s strong trial showing when second in a 1000m heat in Sydney on August 6.
Pericles won first-up in Sydney on the corresponding weekend last year before going on to win the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) second-up.
The five-year-old is the equal highest-rated runner in the Lawrence Stakes entries along with the Nick Ryan-trained Munhamek, who is a $6 chance.
Pinstriped, who has performed well at the Cranbourne jumpouts in recent weeks, is also a $6 chance.
The Chris Waller-trained Buckaroo, who last raced in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes in April, is an $8.50 shot in Lawrence Stakes betting but is also nominated for a race in Sydney on Saturday.
