C1 – QATAR PRIX CHAUDENAY – 3000m (a2m) – TURF – Gr2 Race – Flat – EUR € 200,000

1. SHAMARKAND – Lightly raced, maturing colt with sound form references/credentials – won 4 of 7 starts and finished 3rd in his 3 other appearances, including his latest behind COLUMBUS (5) in the Group III Prix de Lutèce  on 1 September

2. ILLINOIS – Consistent high-class stayer with proven Group I references, including a last-start 2nd to Jan Brueghel in the St Léger Stakes at Doncaster on 14 September. The horse to beat

3. TRAFALGAR SQUARE – Won a 2400m Listed race on this course in late May and returned to winning ways in a lucrative Arqana sales race over 2000m at Deauville on 15 August. Ventures beyond 2400m for the first time – dark horse

4. DOLLAR INDEX – Bounced back to form with a reassuring 3rd in a 2400m Listed race at Saint-Cloud on 6 September – his first outing beyond 2100m. Could have more to offer stretching out to this extended distance

5. COLUMBUS – Progressive colt, undefeated in 2 starts over 3000m – won the Group III Prix de Lutèce over this course and distance on 1 September. Not taken lightly, even at this level

6. RAGNAR CITY – Unexposed, improving colt whose form/game has gone to another level in his 2 starts beyond 2300m, winning both. Made a winning handicap/Quinte+ debut over 2400m at Calirefontaine on 12 August

7. STRASSIA – Lightly raced filly with sound/consistent form credentials – finished 4th behind COLUMBUS (5) in Listed Prix Michel Houyvet over 3000m at Deauville in August. Won a 2400m Listed race at Saint-Cloud since (6 September)

8. VIGATATA – Consistent and progressive filly with sound references in back-to-back Group III races, the latest (3rd) over 2500m at Deauville on 11 August. Remains open to improvement over this extended trip

Summary: Classy three-year-old colt ILLINOIS (2) hit the woodwork for the second time in as many Group I attempts this term when chasing home stablemate Jan Brueghel at Doncaster in the St Leger. He sets a lofty standard and is hard to oppose in this Group II opener. COLUMBUS (5) won a 3000m Group III last time, establishing himself as a leading three-year-old French stayer, so he could emerge as the biggest threat to the selection if continuing on his upward trajectory. SHAMARKAND (1) and VIGATATA (8) aren’t underestimated either, given the strength and consistency of their form/performances.

SELECTIONS

6. AFRICA DE MONLAU – Capable filly with sound references/form credentials, including a 5th in the Qatar Arabian Trophy des Pouliches (Group I) last year. Finished 4th in a 1900m Group III at La Teste on 21 August

7. SAWARIM – Has remained consistent without winning and looks up against it under these conditions, despite finishing 2nd over 2100m at Toulouse on 5 September

8. ASSLAN AL SHAHANIA – Honest performer whose competitiveness at this level is assured – finished 4th in Group I Qatar Arabian Trophy des Pouliches last year. Runner-up in a 1600m Listed race in Spain on 14 July

9. MANTAHARE – Proven Group performer in Arabian races with the form/experience to play a leading role (was 6th in the Group I Critérium des Pouliches over 1900m at La Teste on 10 July. Maxime Guyon is a plus

10. HM MOUNTASSIRAH – Debut winner at Royan in August. Proved that was no flash in the pan by finishing a creditable 4th in the 2000m Group I Liwa International Stakes at La Teste on 13 August – open to improvement

11. ENVY – Has regained momentum with each comeback appearance. Showed her form and well-being by finishing 2nd over 2100m at Dax on 7 September – has more to do in this grade/company

12. ARE’EJ – Progressive last-start winner of the 1900m Group III Prix Nevadour at La Teste on 21 August. Wide barrier gate is a concern

Summary: Exciting NORMA AL MAURY (3) acquitted herself well in defeat against older opposition in consecutive Group I races. She will prove an entirely different proposition against same-aged fillies and is taken to confirm her superiority over familiar foe MARWA (2), who should be more impactful on soft ground. HM MOUNTASSIRAH (10) proved herself at this level in just her second outing and she will make her presence felt with further improvement on the cards. MANTAHARE (9) was disappointing in the reference race at La Teste but remains capable of getting into the picture.

SELECTIONS
NORMA AL MAURY (3) – MARWA (2) – HM MOUNTASSIRAH (10) – MANTAHARE (9)
C3 – QATAR PRIX DU CADRAN – 4000m (a2m1/2) – TURF – Gr1 Race – Flat – EUR € 300,000

1. COLTRANE – High-class performer with proven references at this level, though no longer the force of old. Finished behind TRUESHAN (3) when 4th in the Group II Doncaster Cup Stakes over 3600m on 13 September

2. KYPRIOS – At the top of his game and undefeated in 5 starts this year, including 3 consecutive Group I races – the latest (Curragh) over 2800m in the Irish St Leger on 15 September. Won this contest in 2022

3. TRUESHAN – Winner of the 2021 and 2023 editions of this race. Showed his form and well-being when finishing 2nd in the Group II Doncaster Cup Stakes over 3600m on 13 September

4. DOUBLE MAJOR – France’s best stayer. Won the Group I Prix Royal-Oak last year and has been carefully aimed at this race ever since. Races beyond 3100m for the first time but looks better than ever, having won consecutive Group II events – the latest over 3000m at Deauville on 18 August

5. MISS CYNTHIA – Significantly out at the weights (on official ratings) and would be a shock winner. Opened her account with a last-start maiden success over 12300m on PSF at Lingfield on 10 August

Summary: High-quality renewal, despite the small field size. Back to his best after an injury-enforced layoff, KYPRIOS (2) has won all 5 starts this year and completed a Group I hat-trick when scoring in the Irish St Leger last month. He was a brilliant victor of this race in 2022 and is good value to reclaim his prize and extend his sequence of top-level successes. DOUBLE MAJOR (4) has been specifically aimed at this race and France’s leading stayer should prove a worthy adversary. TRUESHAN (3), a two-time winner of this event, and familiar foe COLTRANE (1) are proven performers at this level so can’t be taken lightly.

SELECTIONS
KYPRIOS (2) – DOUBLE MAJOR (4) – TRUESHAN (3) – COLTRANE (1)

2. WE RIDE THE WORLD – Unlucky (15th) in the Prix Hubert de Catheu at Vichy before resuming winning ways with a 1600m Class 2 conditions race victory at La Teste on 12 September. Not taken lightly

3. AMERICAN FLAG – Warm favorite in the Group I Poule d’Essai des Poulains last year but has shown his limits since. Finished 8th in 1600m Listed race at this venue when last seen on 23 May – soft track will suit him

4. ETATIQUE – Surprise winner of the Grand Handicap de Deauville but confirmed that form/improvement by finishing 4th in a Class 2 conditions race over 1600m at La Teste on 12 September. Keep safe

5. GREY TORNADO – Will be more effective over this distance, having finished 7th over 1900m on PSF at Deauville on 18 August. Didn’t go unnoticed when 5th over 1600m at La Teste on 12 September

6. DOURIANN – Regained momentum with 2 comeback outings, the latest (4th) over 1500m in a conditions race at Saint-Cloud on 9 September. Not taken lightly back in a handicap

7. CHIRIMIRI – Performed well (7th) in the Grand Handicap of Deauville off his current mark and bounced back to form with a reassuring 2nd in a 1500m conditions race at Saint-Cloud on 9 September

8. HALF HALF – Finished 5th in a Group III contest in the spring but failed to confirm that form/improvement since. Unplaced (10th) in 1600m Quinté+ at Deauville on 4 August but is dangerous to discount

9. CLIMATE CHANGE – Acquitted himself well (9th) in the Grand Handicap de Deauville and finished an eye-catching 4th in the 1500m PSF Quinté+ handicap on 25 August. Will fight for victory

10. AMEDRAS – Soundly beaten in the Prix Hubert de Catheu, won by CHIRIMIRI (7). Dropped to his last-winning Quinté+ mark and will appreciate give in the ground. Attractive outsider despite finishing 9th in a 1400m Quinte+ at Vichy on 16 July

11. HARRY WAY – Placed several times in Group races last year, including the Prix Noailles and Prix Hocquart on this course. Didn’t go unnoticed when 6th in 1850m Quinté+ race at this venue on 8 September

13. BLUE BROTHER – Made a winning Quinté+ debut in a three-year-old PSF handicap over 1500m at Deauville on 13 August. Faces a tougher task back on turf under a 4,5kg penalty

14. INCRACKABLE – Runner-up in a Class 3 conditions race over 1800m at Clairefontaine in August but unplaced (9th) in the 1850m Quinte+ of 8 September on this course. Best watched for now

17. TIMES WARRIOR – Improving, lightly raced last-start winner over 1600m at La Test on 31 August but isn’t particularly well-treated on his handicap/Quinte+ debut off this mark. Best watched for now

18. MOUTARDE – Out of sorts and soundly beaten in his last 3 appearances, the latest (9th) in a 1900m PSF claimer at Chantilly on 21 September. Others preferred

Summary: CLIMATE CHANGE (9) caught the eye when 4th in the Quinté+ of 25 August and he will appreciate softer ground, so could find himself fighting for victory with HARRY WAY (11). The latter impressed at La Teste 2 starts back and wasnt disgraced, despite finishing unplaced (6th), in his most recent outing. HALF HALF (8) has enjoyed rich success in this category and shouldn’t be hastily condemned for his latest faux pas. AMERICAN FLAG (3) cannot be underestimated on his reappearance, especially given an attractive opening handicap mark. The shortlist is completed by CHIRIMIRI (7), DOURIANN (6) and WE RIDE THE WORLD (2).

SELECTIONS

1. BRISE NOIR – The subject of ‘track talk’ on debut and justified that interest with a promising 3rd over 1400m at Deauville in a newcomers’ race on 15 August. Would’ve benefitted from that experience

2. MONDO – Confirmed the promise of his debut 3rd over 1400m with a stylish 1600m victory at La Teste when last seen on 31 August. Faces stronger opposition but is open to further progress – dark horse

3. FLY HALF – Debut winner over 1000m at Chantilly in May and has maintained good form and consistency in 3 subsequent starts. Proved effective over this distance when 3rd at Saint-Cloud on 20 September

4. ONE EYE JACK – Overcame a tardy start to make a winning debut over 1600m at Haydock on 28 September and is open to any amount of improvement with the benefit of that experience. Exciting prospect

5. MOUNT KILIMANJARO – Attractively bred Siyouni colt. Didn’t go unnoticed when 5th on debut and built on that promise to finish 3rd over 1400m at Newmarket on 12 July – not taken lightly on his reappearance

6. TILTED KILT – Debut winner on PSF. Not as effective on turf in two subsequent starts and confirmed as much by finishing 2nd on the all-weather surface in a 1600m Nursery Handicap at Kempton (7 September)

7. CHAMPAGNE POWDER – Caught the eye on debut when 4th in a newcomers’ race at Deauville over 1400m on 15 August. Closely matched with BRISE NOIR (1) on that form – attractive outsider

8. LADY VITESSE – Debut winner over 1350m at Lyon-Parilly in June and bounced back from her disappointing next start (10th) to finish 2nd in a 1700m Class 2 conditions race at Marseille-Borely on 2 September. More needed

9. PLACE FONTENOY – Eye-catching 2nd behind a Ballydoyle colt in a 1650m Listed race at Craon on 31 August. Needs to confirm that form/improvement to have a say here

10. BERONIA – Rewarded for her consistency with a last-start maiden victory in a 1400m nursery handicap at Ayr on 20 September. Will find this tougher

11. RELAXX – Promising filly with solid form references/credentials, including a Group III 3rd over 1400m in late July. Finished 6th in a very strong Group III Prix d’Aumale over track and trip on 12 September

12. MAROONED – Built on the encouragement of her debut 5th at Deauville to finish 3rd over 1400m at Compiegne on 17 September. Needs to improve over this extended trip to trouble the principals

Summary: ONE EYE JACK (4) overcame a tardy start to make a winning debut and did so easier than the margin of victory may suggest. He’s awkwardly drawn in a wide barrier but looked potentially useful when scoring at Haydock last month, so it could pay to follow his progress. MOUNT KILIMANJARO (5) isn’t exactly bred to be precocious but has revealed sufficient means/ability to acquit himself competitively, especially over this extended distance which should serve his interests. RELAXX (11) shouldn’t be hastily condemned for finishing unplaced in a strong renewal of the Group III Prix d’Aumale and isn’t without a chance, which also applies to debut winner FLY HALF (3), whose latest outing over this distance was encouraging.

HELIUM DE L’ITON (13) is consistent and can be competitive once again.

C1 – PRIX ALPHONSE GOUABAU – 2850m (a2m) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 27,000

1. JOAL DU RIB – Sanctioned in 4 before finishing 6th of 11 in a 2625m Cherbourg Class E on 19 August. Barefoot this time but others easier to back

2. JABIRU BOY – Returns to racing left-handed after a surprisingly lacklustre effort, coming 7th of 11, in a 2675m Class E at Le Mont-Saint-Michel on 18 August. Races shod this time though and best to wait

3. JERK HAUFOR – In excellent form since start of summer, most recently coming 5th of 12 in a 2850m Vincennes Class C 2.5 weeks ago but, shod this time, is best left alone

4. JAG ROYAL – Got straight back in the game on re-entry at Vincennes before winning a Class F under these conditions early last month. Seldom disappoints for Eric Raffin and has a reasonable chance of doubling his money

5. JUSTE SNOB – Has not been seen out since being sanctioned in a 2775m Craon Class D late-June. Shoes on for return and can be passed over

6. JUSTIN DES MARAIS – Defied his 32/1 to run 5th of 12 in a 2500m Reims Class E 3 weeks ago. Has evident ability and will be reined by Mathieu Mottier, but dependability is always an issue

7. JUNIOR DU CHERISAY – Last of 10 in a 2875m Meslay Class D mid-August and has no possible chance

8. JOYEUX DU LANDRET – Got the summer off to a slow start but in fine shape since, latterly winning a 2650m Class E at Divonne-les-Bains on 20 August. Comes here fresh and, already a Laval winner this year, must be respected

9. JUAN PERRINE – Has struggled of late, latterly sanctioned in a 2475m Niort Class E mid-September. Is confirmed here, thrives with Benjamin Rochard, and can start to put things right

10. JIANFRANCO – Has bags of ability but has been struggling this year, latterly sanctioned on re-entry in a 2950m Class E at Le Mans 3.5 weeks ago. Shod to preference and, if applied, can begin to make amends

11. JULEJACQ – Finished last of 9, on comeback, in a 2100m Vincennes Class D last Sunday. Boasts fine credentials over course and distance and looks capable of giving JAG ROYAL (4) something to consider

12. JIMINY CRICKET – Made up for his blip at Les Sables when 2nd of 12 in a 2750m Ecommoy Class B on 8 September. Front shoes off again and will not be far from the action if kept out of trouble

13. JUST A MAN – Ran 2nd at Les Sables before coming 4th of 14 in a 2725m Lisieux Class E a fortnight ago. Is clearly back on right road and will be competitive for a place in the frame

14. JULLOU – Ran 2nd at Cabourg before winning a 2175m Vincennes monté Class E, in a metaphorical canter, early last month. Shoes on and others easier to back this time

15. JACOMO DES BOTS – Showed improvement when 4th of 7 finishers in a 2475m Niort Class E 3 weeks ago. Alexandre Abrivard in the bike this time but, trounced on lone appearance here, is not an obvious choice

Summary: Like a horse reborn after changing stables last winter, JAG ROYAL (4) confirmed his good return run with a solid victory over course and distance a month ago, and has earned the right to take his chances at this level. Very much at ease under these conditions, JULEJACQ (11) has a race under his belt, is shod to preference, and will be expected to play a leading role. In the frame in 2 of 3 following his layoff, JIMINY CRICKET (12) appreciates Laval and will have every chance of trotting his way onto the podium. New to the venue, and plainly in good shape, JUST A MAN (13) will not be far off the mark if he reproduces his penultimate performance.

C2 – PRIX PATRICK MARC MOTTIER – 2850m (a2m) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 35,000

1. HANDSOME BOY – Unraced since coming 3rd of 8 in a 2700m Vincennes monté Class E last March. Preparing for a campaign under the saddle and can be disregarded

2. HERMES PAT – 7th of 11 finishers in a 2700m Thouars Class F on 25 August. No longer the horse he once was and can be ruled out

3. FRANCO FLEURI – 12th of 14 when preparing for this in a 2725m Pornichet Class F a fortnight ago. Has made no impact for some time and is not about to change his ways

4. HAZILYS – Respectable 8th of 12 in a 2100m Vincennes Class D 3 weeks ago. Drops back in category, is proven here and, although unlikely to win, can still make first 5

5. HASARD – Has taken some time to come to hand recently but reassured when 4th to HALMA D’AMER (9) in a Class E over track and trip on 6 September. Has never failed to fire here and has a legitimate claim on a place in the frame

6. FULL CASH DE PADD – In the frame in 2 before finishing 7th of 13 in a 2850m Vincennes Class D 8 days ago. Flopped on only Laval start but, in this field, looks capable of picking up a cheque

7. HELITLOPET – Has not been seen out since finishing 9th of 11 in a 3325m Villeréal Class B early-August. Is plainly out of sorts and will have little to contribute

8. HAPPY FACE – 3rd of 15 in a 2500m Craon Class B 12 days ago. Has not put a foot wrong for past month and, winner on lone Laval appearance, must be afforded considerable respect

9. HALMA D’AMER – Not once out of first 2 in last 6 starts, most recently an authoritative winner of a Class E over course and distance early last month, and is in with a realistic shout of doubling up

10. HEUREUX DE BOUERE – Won at Landivisiau before coming 2nd of 14 in a 2725m Class E 2 weeks ago. Appreciates Laval, sports a new configuration, and will generate interest

11. HARIA DU BELLAY – Out of the picture in last 3, most recently last of 12 in a 2100m Vincennes Class D 3 weeks ago. Leading driver at the helm and will be dangerous if he can keep her focused

Summary: Simply sensational this season, HALMA D’AMER (9) thrashed the opposition in a Class E under these conditions a month ago and, given her record with Eric Raffin, should be able to wrap this up. She will still face resistance from the ideally-engaged HARIA DU BELLAY (11) who will be reined by Alexandre Abrivard for the occasion, and the on-form HAPPY FACE (8) who won his only start at the venue. HASARD (5) encouraged behind Charles Dreux’s mare here last month and must be taken more seriously this time.

C3 – PRIX MONDIAL DU LION – 2850m (a2m) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 27,000

1. IDOLE DELICE – 9th of 13, behind ICE HAUFOR (2), in a Class E over course and distance mid-September. Has a regressive profile which will endear her to few

2. ICE HAUFOR – Enjoying something of a renaissance since starting to race barefoot, latterly storming up under these conditions mid-September. In marginally better company this time, but still looks s major player

3. INDULGENTE – Ran 3rd at Les Sables-d’Olonne before being sanctioned early in a 2150m Mauquenchy Class E on 12 September. Has never shown much liking for the venue but can get a look-in if she gets off on the right foot

4. IMAGINE GIRL – Quality element making 2nd start back after returning with a 5th of 13, behind ICE HAUFOR (2), in a Class E over course and distance mid-September. Front shoes off for the occasion but has yet to deliver at Laval and is not about to start

5. INTERACTIVE – Starts for first time since running 2nd of 8 in a 3000m Nantes Class E 4 months ago, and will need the outing

6. ILLIANA DU CLOS – Disappointing in all three starts this season, most recently finishing last but one in a 2725m Pornichet Class F 2 weeks ago, and has no possible chance

7. ILARIA KILY – Ran 3rd at Vincennes before finishing 8th of 13 in a 2525m Class F at Les Andelys 3 weeks ago. Won her only start for Jean-Philippe Monclin though and deserves to be taken seriously

8. INES QUICK – Could well have won a 2100m amateurs Class F at Vincennes 3.5 weeks ago had she managed to keep trotting. Won here during the spring, receives an Alexandre Abrivard drive this time, and must be respected

9. ILOVIROIZ DI LEONE – Mixes the good with the less good but will need to show marked improvement on recent 11th of 12 in a 3200m Class F at Blain-Bouvron-Le Gâvre 2 weeks ago

10. INES DE LA ROUVRE – Unraced since trotting 5th of 9, behind IROISE DE MADKER (11), in a 2775m Class E at Les Sables-d’Olonne late-April. Has freshness on her side but still has more to find

11. IROISE DE MADKER – In the frame in 6 of last 7, most recently 2nd of 10 in a 2750m Ecommoy Class E a fortnight ago. Is new to the venue but sports front pads this time, simply thrives with Eric Raffin, and can win this

12. ISLAND CASH – Facile winner of a 2800m Rambouillet amateurs Class G 3 weeks ago. Is a force when barefoot, appreciates Laval, and looks the pick of the field

13. IDAHI DE HOUELLE – Sanctioned in last 2 after a fine run of form, latterly a 2775m Class E at Les Sables-d’Olonne a fortnight ago, but with Benjamin Rochard reining, can start to put things right

14. IENA D’ORGERES – Placed twice before faulting in a 2700m Class H at Miramont-de-Guyenne mid-August. Unraced since, stays shod, and can be confidently passed over

15. ILIADE D’URZY – Quality individual that has struggled so far this term, latterly last of 10 in a 2800m Vire Class E a month ago. Has a lot more going for her this time however and, if focused, can make the frame

Summary: After a couple of return runs, ISLAND CASH (12) completed stage 1 of her comeback, securing an amateurs event on turf last month. Already a winner under these conditions, she races barefoot with Anthony Barrier back in the bike and is eminently capable of doubling her money. He will nevertheless be paying attention to the reconfigured IROISE DE MADKER (11) who has been knocking at the door for some time, and ICE HAUFOR (2) who routed the opposition over course and distance mid-September. Off the boil so far this term, ILIADE D’URZY (15) nonetheless enjoys a good entry and, reunited with Matthieu Abrivard, is very easy to like.

C4 – PRIX HORSERAIL FRANCE / CLOTURES CONCEPT – 2850m (a2m) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 21,000

1. KLEMS DE JAVIE – Pleasantly surprising 3rd of 12 in a Class E over course and distance late-August but a repeat seems most improbable

2. KIKOU D’ALEXIANE – Useful type making first appearance since running 2nd of 12 in a 2875m Meslay Class E last March, and will need the run

3. KID DE BERGAULT – Runner-up at Landivisiau before going one better in a 3100m Class E at Nort-sur-Erdre 3 weeks ago. Has a lot going for him this time and must be taken seriously

4. KA DEUX TONIQUE – Made it 3 in a row when dominating a 2775m Class E at Les Sables-d’Olonne late-August. Has earned the right to race here and will not go down easily

5. KING MAJANO – Surprisingly last of 12 in Pornichet race of reference. Is significantly better than that though and should not be too far off the mark if Matthieu Abrivard manages to keep him trotting

6. KINGDOM DE CHENU – Sanctioned, when unsupported, in Pornichet race of reference. Has merit but would be preferred a level down

7. KEFIR DE SASSY – Won 2 of last 3, most recently a 3100m Class E at Nort-sur-Erdre mid-September. Reliability not his strong suit but, with Raffin is in the bike again, will be assured every chance

8. KERRO DE HOUELLE – Has 2 races under his belt since the break, latterly 6th of 12 in Pornichet race of reference. Hind shoes off this time and while not a priority, should still be able to hold his own

9. KORRIGAN SIBEY – Imposed at Rambouillet before getting stuck in traffic, coming 4th of 9 in a 2700m Class E at La Capelle 12 days ago. Louis Baudouin in the wagon this time and can win this if he keeps him out of trouble

10. KILIMANDJARO PLAYA – 8th of 12, behind KAID FORTUNA (15), in a 2725m Pornichet Class E, on return from summer break, 2 weeks ago. Won his only start at the venue and, if fully fit, can get straight back in the game

11. KAID DES CHAMPS – 5th of 7 finishers, behind KID DE BERGAULT (3), in a 2600m Landivisiau Class E early last month. Yet to show any particular love for Laval and can be passed over

12. KLASSIC WINNER – Put a brace of lacklustre performances behind him to convincingly win a Class E over course and distance mid-September and, in similar form, could well repeat

13. KORINTO BELLO – Serious trotter returning to competition, and debuting left-handed, not having been seen out since coming 5th of 13 in a 2725m Lisieux Class D 4 months ago. Shoes back on and not a contender this time

14. KOLOSSE – Put away late-June after finishing 8th of 10 in a 2750m Class D at La Capelle. Showed little form earlier in the year and will have few friends

15. KAID FORTUNA – Complicated character that finished a reassuring 5th of 12 in a 2725m Pornichet Class E a fortnight ago. Enjoys an excellent entry and Jean-Philippe Monclin will be out to make hay

16. KALIN DU TRESOR – Quality future prospect making first appearance since winning a 2450m Caen monté Class E late-June. Has other priorities though and can be ruled out

Summary: There is any number of horses in with a shout here but preference nevertheless goes to the recalibrated KORRIGAN SIBEY (9) who would have secured the double at La Capelle had he been afforded a run. That said, KLASSIC WINNER (12) won smartly under these conditions and is a similarly serious candidate. Winner of 3 on the trot in the spring, including over track and trip, KILIMANDJARO PLAYA (10) got a race in him a fortnight ago and, with hind shoes off this time, could pick up where he left off in May. KID DE BERGAULT (3) steps up in category after imposing at Nort-sur-Erdre last month but has hind shoes of for the occasion and the engagement of Benjamin Rochard will do his prospects no harm.

C5 – PRIX GROUPAMA – 2850m (a2m) – Class E Amateur Riders Race – Mounted – EUR € 21,000

1. INDY BRUN – Unraced since finishing last but one in a 2625m Class G at Saint-Jean-de-Monts on 11 August. Is clearly out of sorts and will have nothing to offer

2. JUDICY DE VIVE – 4th of 7, behind JACKPOT MAN GLORIA (3), in a 2725m Pornichet Class F late-August. Honourable under the saddle and, shod to preference, can make first 5

3. JACKPOT MAN GLORIA – Runner-up in 3 before faulting in a 3000m Nantes harness Class E conditioner 8 days ago. Is back under the saddle and should be good enough to impose this time

4. JACANA DE BLARY – Back under the saddle after faulting in a 2525m Class F at Les Andelys 3 weeks ago. Has placed just once in 4 in the code but, in this company, should not be too far from the action

5. JUVACAT DE CAPONET – Versatile mare that met little opposition on her way to victory in a 2400m Amiens Class F on 7 September. Sanctioned on lone appearance here but, in present form, it is very easy to make a case

6. JOYEUSE DU RIB – Pulled off the hat-trick at Cabourg before running 3rd of 9 in a 2850m Carentan Class E mid-August. Won her last 2 when barefoot and can give JACKPOT MAN GLORIA (3) a run for his money

7. IMOUSSE LA RAVELLE – Debuted poorly in the discipline late-August, and latterly ran 8th of 11 in a 2775m harness Class E at Les Sables-d’Olonne 2 weeks ago. No threat

8. JOSS CAPELLO – Makes first public appearance in the discipline after finishing last but one in a 2050m harness Class E here on 26 September, and has no realistic chance

9. JIFF LINE – Takes first competitive monté steps after coming 2nd of 7 finishers in a 2050m Class E here 9 days ago, but others still preferred

10. ICONE DE L’ETRE – 2nd of 9, on comeback, in a 2750m Class F at La Capelle 3 weeks ago. Is new to the venue but should appreciate the profile and, if applied, will be competitive for a place on the podium

Summary: Mares have an important role to play in this event but it is very hard to ignore the dependably-performant JACKPOT MAN GLORIA (3) who has finished runner-up in his last 3 starts. Kwincy Petitjean will still be keeping one eye on a barefoot JOYEUSE DU RIB (6) who has won 3 of her last 4, and JUVACAT DE CAPONET (5) who was rewarded with an excellent win at Amiens early last month. ICONE DE L’ETRE (10) left a very good impression on re-entry at La Capelle and will have come on for the run.

C6 – PRIX SECHE ENVIRONNEMENT – 2850m (a2m) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 21,000

1. KASTILLE HAUFOR – Honest type returning from a short spell, unraced since coming 5th of 11 in a 2050m Cabourg Class E on 12 July. Will be race-rusty and can be passed over

2. KADIX DEL PHEDO – Given a break after finishing last of 8 in a 2850m Class E at Maure-de-Bretagne late-April, and will not be troubling the judge

3. KERMESSE DU PARC – Got off the mark [at 21st time of asking] in a 2375m Castelsarrasin Class F on 8 September. Unlikely to repeat but can still finish in the mix

4. KASTA DU RIB – Raced better in a 2675m Class E at Le Mont-Saint-Michel early last month than her 7th of 8 behind KASSIOPEE DREAM (14) would imply, and will be no pushover if she deigns to keep trotting

5. KALIE PRIMO – Complicated but talented filly starting for first time since finishing last of 10 in a 2450m Caen Class E 5 months ago, and will need the outing

6. KIARA MAURICIENNE – 11th of 12 behind KALAMITY DE CHENU (9) in a 2725m Pornichet Class E 2 weeks ago, on first start of the season. Thrives with Benjamin Rochard, and at Laval, and is not to be underestimated

7. KUNAMATATA – Serious filly making first start since running 2nd of 10 in a 3125m Angers Class E early-June. Shoes back on though and best to wait

8. KORAYA DE KERLEAN – Took no time showing her form following the rest, most recently 2nd of 10 finishers in a Class E over track and trip mid-September and, with hind shoes off, will not be sent out at 30/1 this time

9. KALAMITY DE CHENU – 10th of 12 finishers in a 2725m Pornichet Class E a fortnight ago. Will be fit by now and, clearly a filly with untapped potential, could prove quite the revelation

10. KALISKANA – Showed her form after being sanctioned in a 2725m Pornichet Class E a fortnight ago. Has trouble staying focused but racing barefoot may well be ticket to her redemption

11. KENZA D’AMOUR – Sanctioned a month ago in a 2675m Class E at Le Mont-Saint-Michel. Disappointing for much of the year and, even with modified shoeing, is unlikely to cause an upset

12. KELLY CHALEONNAISE – Left a good impression winning a 2775m monté Class E at Les Sables-d’Olonne on 6 September. Is no slouch under harness but races shod and, in this category, appears to have too much to do

13. KALINKA DU GRENAT – Has not been seen out since coming 6th of 12 in a 2875m Enghien Class E late-July. Races shod this time but, in this company, could still get a look-in

14. KASSIOPEE DREAM – 6th of 8 in a 2675m Class E at Le Mont-Saint-Michel early last month. Races shod as she was when placing here earlier in the year but still no more than a minor place chance

15. KORSICANA – Showed form during the spring but lacklustre in last 2, most recently last of 8 behind KASSIOPEE DREAM (14) in a 2675m Class E at Le Mont-Saint-Michel on 8 September. Still being conditioned and others preferred

16. KALINE DU BOULAY – 8th of 13 in a 2625m Cherbourg Class D 10 days ago. Is first-time barefoot, with Matthieu Abrivard in the bike, which may just be enough to start rehabilitating herself

Summary: Useful on a good day but a handful, KALISKANA (10) gets to race barefoot for the first time and, performant with Jean-Philippe Monclin reining, can win this if she stays in stride. KASTA DU RIB (4) would have finished close at Le Mont-Saint-Michel had she not been unsure of stride and Jean-Loïc Claude Dersoir will be eager to set the record straight. Given a break in April, KALAMITY DE CHENU (9) now has a brace of runs in her, goes first-time barefoot, and will be expected to show another side. Given a conditioner at Pornichet after the summer break, the Laval-loving KIARA MAURICIENNE (6) faces her first goal of the autumn and, at ease with her driver, is unlikely to disappoint.

C7 – PRIX GABRIEL SANDRIN – 2850m (a2m) – Class E Race – Mounted – EUR € 21,000

1. KAKOU DES BUDENTS – Debuts under the saddle after 5 straight harness sanctions, most recently a 2700m Thouars Class H mid-September, and can be confidently passed over

2. KODIAC DE GUEZ – Respectable 5th of 10 in a 2750m Ecommoy Class E 2 weeks ago but has a lot more to find this time around

3. KASH GAGOU – Sanctioned in 3 of last 4, most recently a 2450m Caen Class E 2.5 weeks ago. Has little aptitude for the monté game and can be ruled out

4. KORALINE DU LUPIN – Reassuring 3rd of 11 in a 2775m Class E at Les Sables-d’Olonne a month ago. Gets the green-light to race at Laval and with front shoes off, could pleasantly surprise

5. KAKOU ALDO – Got off the mark at Le Mont-Saint-Michel on 18 August before missing out by little for the repeat in a 2675m Class E at the same venue 3 weeks later. Has a lot more to give and makes Laval debut with a realistic chance of imposing

6. KANSAS DU HOCTI – Ran 2nd under the saddle at Pornichet before coming 6th of 15 in a 2800m Bernay Class E harness conditioner late-August. Comes here fresh but nevertheless appears to have too much to do

7. KEEPER PERRINE – Valiant 6th of 13 in a 2200m Vincennes Class E early last month. Is proven under these conditions and has a reasonable chance of finishing close

8. KAVALE D’ERQUY – Opened her autumn account with solid victory in a 2200m Langon Class E a fortnight ago. Won here last February and can play an active role. Place chance

9. KATLINE MOUROTAISE – Opened her account on 19 August before faulting in a 2750m Ecommoy Class E on 8 September. Sports modified shoeing and the engagement of Alexandre Abrivard will only work in her favour

10. KANCAENNAISE – Tricky filly that reassured at Rochefort-sur-Loire before faulting in a 2600m Class E at Le Mont-Saint-Michel on 18 August. Comes here fresh but represents no more than a minor place prospect

11. KERVIGNAC – Imposed at La Capelle before faulting in a 2700m Vincennes Class D 2.5 weeks ago. Drops back in category and will be expected to redeem himself and win this

Summary: KERVIGNAC (11) picked up after the break as he left off last winter, with victory [at La Capelle], can be forgiven his subsequent sanction, and Paul Ploquin will be keen to make up for lost time. He will still be justifiably wary of KAKOU ALDO (5) who has turned a corner since starting to race barefoot, and KAVALE D’ERQUY (8) who won here earlier in the year and most recently repeated at Langon. KEEPER PERRINE (7) held his own in Paris last time and, on this occasion, looks considerably more competitive.

SELECTIONS

C8 – PRIX GILLES BAUDRON – 2850m (a2m) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 21,000

1. LIOR DE SASSY – Finished 4th here late-August before trotting 3rd of 11 in a Class F over course and distance a month back. Will not be sent out at 274/1 this time but is unlikely to be competitive either

2. LISTER VEDAQUAIS – Unseen since faulting, on comeback, in a 2700m Graignes Class E late-May. Has had time to get his house in order and, if applied, should not be too far from the action

3. LIQUIDATEUR – Out of the picture in 2 since winning on debut, most recently sanctioned in a 2475m Francheville Class F mid-August. Alexandre Abrivard at the helm this time but still not an obvious choice

4. LOUSTIC DE DALINE – Ran 3rd on debut before winning a 2800m Cholet Class G nicely on 13 September. Makes Laval debut with morale intact and is very easy to back

5. LUCKY LOSER – In the frame in 2 of last 3, latterly 2nd of 8 in a 2650m Alençon Class F 2 weeks ago, but bites off more than he can chew

6. LOVE’S SECRET – Made the frame in 3 before coming 6th of 14 in a 2800m Bernay Class E on 25 August. Moves back to a hard surface and it will not be long before he makes a big splash

7. LARRY DU DOUBS – Won here late-May before finishing 7th of 11 in a 2450m Caen Class E a fortnight ago. Sports a new configuration, returns to racing left-handed, and must be considered a serious proposition

8. LUCERO TEJY – Won a 2850m monté Class E here on 6 September. Switches back to the harness code with little to contribute though

9. LOVE LAND – Opened his account well on 25 August, winning a Class G over track and trip. Steps up in category but has freshness on his side and Charles Dreux looks to have a live chance here

10. LATINO DU LUPIN – Runner up in last two, latterly beaten only by a very good horse in a 2775m Class F at Les Sables-d’Olonne on 20 September, and appears to have the class to impose this time

11. LIGHTNING MARGAUX – Sanctioned at Chartres before finishing 10th of 12, behind LORENZO DE BUCY (14), in a 2750m Ecommoy Class E 2 weeks ago. Has merit but must get his house in order

12. LENEK MICHE – Showed moderate improvement when 2nd of 12 in a 2600m Class E at Blain-Bouvron-Le Gâvre on 22 September, but is still being aimed too high

13. LIVE UP STAR – Honest sort that ran 4th of 9 finishers in a 2725m Graignes Class E on 2 September. Unlikely to lose his maiden status but nonetheless has the wherewithal to make first 5

14. LORENZO DE BUCY – Pleased in first 3 before trotting 8th of 12 in a 2750m Ecommoy Class E a fortnight ago. Sports front pads this time and can play a small part if he turns

Summary: Solid in his first 2 starts, LATINO DU LUPIN (10) established his left-handed credentials at Les Sables late last month and looks close enough to his race to get off the mark. It is unlikely to be all plain sailing though given how LOVE LAND (9) imposed his will here last time out. Victorious here before flopping at Caen, LARRY DU DOUBS (7) is fitted with 4 pads for the occasion, has been entrusted to Benjamin Rochard, and will be expected to set the record straight. LOUSTIC DE DALINE (4) opened his account at Cholet 3 weeks ago and, even though in better company this time, still looks competitively well-in.
