R1 LAVAL [L-H]

C1 – PRIX FFB 53 – 2850m (a2m) – Class D – Harness – EUR € 35,000

  1. GITANO JACK – Erratic type with just the one race under his belt following the break. Will be shod to preference but still not a concern
  2. IMAGE CHARENTAISE – Unremarkable mare that was trounced in a Class A here on 11 March. Goes shod once more and can be ruled out
  3. KEY OF LOVE – Quickly eliminated in Gr.3 Prix de la Mayenne in February before reassuringly victorious on turf a month ago. Is shod to preference here and in with a realistic shout of doubling up
  4. JERENAL D’HAMELINE – 2nd to a very good horse at Vire before dominating a Machecoul Class E early last month. Takes on a better lot this time but still has the wherewithal to finish close
  5. JOOST D’OLERON – Honest trotter that ran 5th to JERENAL D’HAMELINE (4) at Machecoul early this month but still has a lot more to find
  6. KOUFRA IRIS’EYES – Starts for the first time since clinching victory in a 2600m Saint-Galmier Class D on 16 February. Has been entrusted to Eric Raffin for the first time and will be expected to figure prominently
  7. KEMIA DU CHENE – Surprise 5th in a 2850m Vincennes Gr.3 in early-February before finishing dead last in a Gr.1 at the same venue later that month. Has not been seen since and is not about to set Laval alight
  8. INES DE LA ROUVRE – Starts for the first time since running 6th behind JAGUAR DU FAN (15) in a Class D under these conditions in late-February. Goes barefoot this time but still not an obvious choice
  9. KISS ME HONEY – Fine dual-discipline mare that is clearly in rude health. Beat KEY OF LOVE (3) at Vincennes in early-February and Louis Baudouin can be justifiably confident of a big performance
  10. JETIDA – Already twice a winner this year, latterly a 2100m Vincennes Class D 12 days ago, at 25-1. Faces a stiffer test this time but is still worth keeping an eye on
  11. FOREVER D’ARIANE – Has often acquitted himself respectably here, but not for some time has he been competitive, and is unlikely to change his ways
  12. IVOIRE PRESTANCE – Capable element but has just one run in him since his lengthy absence and is unlikely to create an upset
  13. JAIN MAB – Gave a fine account on re-entry last week, coming 3rd in a Class D over course and distance. Takes on a marginally better lot this time but can still get in on the action
  14. KARNAC WOOD – Oddly below-par in last 2 but should take to the Laval profile. Is plainly in top shape and can win this if his driver keeps him trotting
  15. JAGUAR DU FAN – Well-beaten 6th in a Marseille-Borély Gr.3 late last month prior to coming 2nd in an Avignon Class E 11 days ago. Has little room for manoeuvre in this field but is not incapable of getting a look in
  16. JACOMO BELLO – Returns to the provinces after having figured prominently for past months. Takes a dip in category and makes his Laval debut with a lot to contribute. Place chance
Summary: Brilliant winner of a Vincennes Gr.3 earlier in the year, KARNAC WOOD (14) was unable to confirm in his next 2 starts, but should find these conditions more to his liking and has a decent chance of returning to victorious ways. That being said, he will have to contend with an in-form and reconfigured KEY OF LOVE (3) who has a particular liking for Laval, and the terrifically-engaged JACOMO BELLO (16) who has been knocking at the door for some time. Winner in the capital last time under harness, KISS ME HONEY (9) returns to the code in fine fettle and is unlikely to disappoint. JERENAL D’HAMELINE (4) stormed up at Machecoul and, very much at home here, looks competitively well in.

    C2 – PRIX MIROITERIE SCHULTZ – 2850m (a2m) – Class E – Harness – EUR € 21,000
  17. NORELLO – Qualified in 1’17’7 here last autumn. Has yet to get around unscathed but it is just a question of time. Chance
  18. NECKER GRIFF – Qualified well last autumn but looked very ordinary at Alencon 10 days ago on his career bow, and others easier to back
  19. NEW LOVE BLUE – Was not disgraced on debut when 4th in an Alencon Class F 10 days ago, but in this company will have too much to do
  20. NARCUS DE PLAY – Put in a good showing in a 2500m Châtelaillon-La Rochelle Class F a month ago, first time out. Paul Ploquin replaces Eric Raffin but still has the wherewithal to pick up a cheque
  21. NELSON DU RIB – Moves up in category after coming 2nd in an Elbeuf Class G 2.5 weeks ago, and represents a minor place chance at best
  22. NEWTON TUILERIE – Beaten only by a classy Bazire-trained colt on debut at Châtelaillon-La Rochelle on 5 April. Will have come on for the run and looks thoroughly capable of imposing this time
  23. NINJA D’AIMTE – Lost his action on comeback in a 2500m Châtelaillon-La Rochelle Class F a month ago, but can finish in the mix if he gets off on the right foot
  24. NECTAR VRIE – Comes to a track he will appreciate after running 2nd in a 2850m Lyon-Parilly Class F a fortnight back, and will not be available at 22-1 this time
  25. NARCO FROMENTRO – Left a very good impression on debut at Cordemais 2 weeks ago when 2nd in a 2825m Class E. Is plainly one for the future and can bring the fight to NEWTON TUILERIE (6)
  26. NARVAL PIERJI – Lost his maiden status in an Avignon Class G 11 days ago. Sports 4 pads this time but is still being aimed too high
Summary: After qualifying respectably here last summer, NEWTON TUILERIE (6) ran 2nd on his debut earlier this month and Eric Raffin, notably, stays faithful. As for NARCO FROMENTRO (9), he too made a good impression on his own racecourse bow and looks the main threat. Runner-up at Lyon-Parilly first time out, NECTAR VRIE (8) will have progressed for the race and looks competitive for a place in the frame. Fastest qualifier in the field, NORELLO (1) will be dangerous if Mathieu Mottier keeps him focused.

    C3 – PRIX HEUDE BATIMENT – 2850m (a2m) – Class E – Mounted – EUR € 21,000
  27. MALINGA D’ELA – Has yet to show any particular aptitude for either code. Sports a fresh configuration but still not an obvious choice
  28. MICHIGAN BLUE – Eliminated in all 5 starts to date. Has been freshly reconfigured but others still easier to back
  29. MINOS DU FOSSE – Eliminated on career debut at Saint-Omer 2,5 weeks ago and looks thoroughly outclassed
  30. MY WAY D’EP – Unraced since making modest monte debut 2 months back. Goes barefoot this time but will have nothing to offer
  31. MERCURE DU ROEN – Yet to show any particular flair for either discipline and will have few, if any, friends
  32. MY LOVE BLUE – Eliminated on return to competition, at Graignes, mid-March. Has had time to recalibrate but others still preferred
  33. MADAME DES LOYAUX – Has been a total disappointment in both codes since his debut 12 months ago, and can be confidently ruled out
  34. MAYA DE CAHOT – Complicated filly that was going well when eliminated in a Class F under these conditions on 28 March and, given the chance, will not be far from the action
  35. MAYA D’ECHAL – Eliminated more often than not and latterly last of 5 finishers at Machecoul, but a repeat of her monte debut performance would see her competitive for minor honours
  36. MISS DE COQUERIE – Reliability not her strong suit, and has not raced since the autumn, but can trot when focused and will have her supporters
  37. MY STORY – Sent for a break after winning her monte debut at Chateaubriant last September. Has been reconfigured for first objective of the spring and, with Mathieu Mottier back in the saddle, will be no shrinking violet
  38. MOKA VRIE – Runner-up in last 2, most recently missing out by little in a Cordemais Class F in early-March. Is unlikely to get his nose in front but with application can finish in the mix
  39. MINERVE DE VANDEL – Made short work of her monte bow in a Class F here on 28 March. Eric Raffin in the bike again and will be expecting to repeat
  40. MELODY LUDOISE – Handy filly that has taken well to the vocation. Is fresh for comeback but clearly means business and has a reasonable chance of imposing
Summary: Much improved since starting to race barefoot, MELODY LUDOISE (14) returns from a break with Paul Ploquin in the irons and, ideally-engaged, will be well-backed to win this. She will still face opposition from a freshly-configured MINERVE DE VANDEL (13) who flew up on her monte debut over course and distance a month ago, and a re-shod MY STORY (11) who won her only start in the discipline. MOKA VRIE (12) has turned a corner recently and will not be far off the mark if she stays in stride.

    C4 – PRIX TOITURE MEIGNAN – 2850m (a2m) – Class E – Harness – EUR € 21,000
  41. NEW GIRL DU CHENE – Untried filly that qualified modestly at Caen last September and will need to show considerably more
  42. NAOUSSA – Qualified in 1’19’9 here last summer but has twice failed to make it around unscathed this term and will first need to establish her credentials
  43. NOBLIA – Was unlucky to lose her action on debut earlier in the month. Hails from a yard firing on all cylinders and Mathieu Mottier will be keen to set the record straight
  44. NUTTY DREAM – Missed the start, ultimately eliminated, on debut at Chartres in mid-March. Has had ample time to recalibrate and, with her mind on the game this time, can redeem herself
  45. NIKITA QUICK – Placed at Meslay first time out but was eliminated in next 2. Did show her form at Argentan recently though and could well pick up a cheque if Romain Hue keeps her trotting
  46. NEREIDE SIBEY – Came good following a pair of eliminations, running 2nd in a Pontchateau Class E 2.5 weeks ago. Put in a good time that day and can make a big splash if Gauthier Baudouin keeps her focused
  47. NAIADE DE LA NADE – Placed twice before taking on too much at Pontchateau early last month. Comes here fresh and with Eric Raffin reining must not be underestimated
  48. NANA DU LEVANT – Has placed just once in 6 starts to date, and recent Laval performance did little to convince
  49. NOUVELLE HISTOIRE – Steps up in category after imposing at Ranes early this month, first time out. Should give an honest account but still appears to be taking on too much
  50. NYMPHE DES LANDES – Put in a fine finish to lose her maiden tag at Elbeuf in late-March. A repeat seems unlikely but with pads fitted can again make the frame
  51. NOSTRA DEMONIA – Well-related filly making first appearance since her successful debut last December. Will not have come to Laval unprepared and is here to win this
Summary: Facile winner on her debut at Cabourg in December, NOSTRA DEMONIA (11) has not been seen out since but will have work behind her and can get straight back down to business. Jerome Ruaults will still be keeping a keen eye on NEREIDE SIBEY (6) who was beaten only by a good filly at Pontchateau, and the well-regarded NOBLIA (3) who was going well when eliminated on her debut at Meral earlier in the month. NYMPHE DES LANDES (10) opened her account at Elbeuf a month ago and will sport front pads for the first time.
    SELECTIONS
    NOSTRA DEMONIA (11) – NEREIDE SIBEY (6) – NOBLIA (3) – NYMPHE DES LANDES (10)
    C5 – PRIX COURCELLE – 2850m (a2m) – Class E – Harness – EUR € 21,000
  52. MASSETTA BELLA – Unremarkable filly that lost her way after showing early seasonal form. Is shod this time and others preferred
  53. MELODIA JOSSELYN – Most impressive winner of a Cholet Class F on 6 April, her first barefoot start. Takes on better horses this time but still looks good enough to confirm
  54. MISS D’HERMES – Quality future prospect that was eliminated on comeback early this month. Top pilot gets the nod here and will be no easy touch if she takes to the new conditions
  55. MELODY DE L’EPINE – Debuts at the venue after having produced a pair of ordinary performances and is not about to trouble the judge
  56. MA DOUCE DE DALINE – Returns to racing left-handed after failing to fire in a Class E at Meslay-du-Maine 3 weeks ago. Sports a new formula for the occasion and must be taken seriously
  57. MARINA SOMOLLI – Looked rather ordinary on return at Mauquenchy earlier in the month. Placed on sole appearance under these conditions though and cannot be entirely ruled out
  58. MADAME BOVARY – Placed on re-entry before coming respectable but unthreatening 6th in a Mauquenchy Class E on 2 April. Is barefoot this time though and is worth monitoring
  59. MADEIRA – Won a Vire Class F early this month on first appearance since October. Is competitively shod for return to Laval and should answer when it counts
  60. MISS IS DU CANET – Showed improvement when 4th in a Cordemais Class E mid-month. Is unlikely to be available at 66-1 this time, but is unlikely to be as competitive either
  61. MELODY DE BENOISE – Is considerably better than recent Argentan result would suggest. Is patently in excellent condition and the engagement of Paul Ploquin will only work to her advantage. Chance
  62. MA BELLA DE JED – Got off the mark at Saint-Galmier in early-February but has twice failed to repeat and can be dismissed
  63. MARIE D’AIMTE – Returned from a lengthy absence with success at Paray-le-Monial 2.5 weeks ago. Goes first-time barefoot and must be considered a player
Summary: Stylish winner at Cholet earlier this month, when barefoot for the first time, MELODIA JOSSELYN (2) races left-handed, also for the first time, and should be able to wrap this up if she turns. MELODIA JOSSELYN (2) failed to pull off the hat-trick at Argentan but will be reined by Paul Ploquin this time and may well prove the principal threat. MADEIRA (8) steps up in category after convincingly imposing on her comeback and will be more competitively-shod. MISS D’HERMES (3) will be barefoot following her Angers return run and her trainer has called on Mathieu Mottier for the occasion.

    C6 – PRIX PLAFITECH – 2850m (a2m) – Class E – Harness – EUR € 21,000
  64. MIKALAN FLASH – Has not been seen out since getting off the mark at Chateaubriant last November and is going to need the race
  65. MISTER GALBE – Useful at a lower level. Has never delivered at Laval and is not about to on this occasion either
  66. MILZANO DU BOSSU – Eliminated here in early-March before running 3rd in a Graignes Class F 10 days later. Races shod this time though and can be ignored
  67. MONCOEUR DE DYPP – Got straight down to business on first start following a lengthy absence, winning a Reims Class F 3.5 weeks ago. A repeat seems unlikely but still cannot be discounted
  68. MISTER MORO – Runner-up in both starts this term, latterly a Caen Class E. Top driver at the helm and can challenge for victory this time
  69. MYTHIQUE RENKA – Returns to racing barefoot after failing to make any impression in a Caen Class E last Saturday, but current figures do little to inspire confidence
  70. MIGUEL DE LOU – Handy trotter but has not been seen out since early-December and is going to need the run
  71. MOJI DE VANDEL – Not the most dependable of colts but gave a fine account on his penultimate start and will be no pushover if he reproduces that performance
  72. MYSTIC MAN – Debuts for new yard after being bought out of a Vincennes claimer. May not win this but should be good enough to contest a place on the podium
  73. MEDICI DE BUSSET – Kicked the year off pleasantly but was eliminated in next 3 starts. Did show his form at Graignes though and, if applied, can pick up some prizemoney
  74. MISTER D’AVOINES – Useful individual but eliminated in last 2. Eric Raffin reining this time though and will not be far from the action if he keeps his charge focused
  75. MONZON DU CHATELET – Put a pair of eliminations behind him when 2nd in a Graignes Class E 2.5 weeks ago. Is unlikely to lose his maiden status this time either but can nevertheless make his presence felt. First 5
  76. MOVING QUICK – Should not be too hastily-condemned for being pulled-up at Cherbourg. Showed his potential here last month and, considering the engagement, the race should be his for the taking
Summary: Courageous winner here before blowing up at Cherbourg early this month, MOVING QUICK (13) benefits from a wonderful entry and Guillaume Martin will be keen to take advantage of this excellent opportunity. He will likely face resistance though from the Mathieu Mottier-partnered MISTER MORO (5) who went close in both starts this term, and MOJI DE VANDEL (8) if he replicates his Meslay-du-Maine effort. MYSTIC MAN (9) makes his first appearance for the Marc Sassier yard, will be barefoot for the occasion, and not to be underestimated.

    C7 – PRIX LUTELLIER CHARPENTE – 2850m (a2m) – Class D – Harness – EUR € 27,000
  77. JOSEPHA MESLOISE – Will be shod as she was when 2nd in a Pontchateau Class F last month. Will have benefitted from Elbeuf conditioner and cannot be discounted
  78. JADE HERINIERE – Modest mare making just 2nd start following 9.5 months off. Stays shod for the occasion and cannot be considered a contender
  79. KETAMINE D’UZE – No slouch on a good day but has just the one race under her belt and would be preferred more competitively-shod
  80. KING DE GINAI – Should not be too hastily-condemned for recent Tours performance, having endured traffic problems. Is unlikely to set off any fireworks but can nonetheless pick up minor honours
  81. KACEY BELL – Has twice failed to confirm her win at Le Croise-Laroche, but will be barefoot this time, with Eric Raffin reining, and is most certainly one for the shortlist
  82. KEITHOS DU RHIN – Has not won since November 2024 but always gives his best nevertheless. Is patently close to his race and with Paul Ploquin reining should not disappoint
  83. KID PARKER – Has bags of talent but is as capricious as they get. Stays shod for return to competition and best to keep one’s powder dry
  84. KOPA D’ARC – Faces first objective of 2026 after 3 conditioners. Has no Laval references but has nothing to prove racing left-handed and will be competitive when it matters
  85. KEEP SECRET – Has just recently returned from a lengthy stint on the sidelines, and is still in conditioning-mode
  86. KYRIA BELLA – Got straight down to business on comeback, dominating a Châtelaillon-La Rochelle Class E on 5 April. Has previously won here and is in the running once more
  87. KILIMANDJARO PLAYA – Well-engaged type racing barefoot at a track he appreciates. Is plainly in fine form and is eminently capable of winning this
  88. JENUFA – Honest mare that was aimed too high at Pontchateau 2.5 weeks ago. Enjoys a terrific entry but with shoes fitted is unlikely to spring any surprises
Summary: A fine campaigner that just missed out at Pontchateau, KILIMANDJARO PLAYA (11) benefits from a very good entry here and, barefoot this time, can make this his own. Anthony Barrier will still be mindful of KOPA D’ARC (8) who faces his first real test of the season, and KYRIA BELLA (10) who will be competitively-shod after imposing on re-entry in early-April. In the frame in 3 of his last 4 starts, KEITHOS DU RHIN (6) should find Laval to his liking and, reverting to a previous formula, must be afforded respect.

    C8 – PRIX SKALI – 2850m (a2m) – Class E – Harness – EUR € 24,000
  89. LIBERTA DE MARZY – Sent for a rest after imposing over course and distance last August. Has failed to deliver in 3 since and will need to raise her game
  90. LUCRECE DE CORDAY – Not the worst horse here but has done nothing noteworthy this term and must first get her house in order
  91. LIGNE BLANCHE – Showed marked improvement on 2nd start back, coming 3rd in a Class E at La Capelle 10 days ago. Paul Ploquin keeps the faith and will afford her another competitive drive
  92. LUCRECE HAUFOR – Blows hot and cold but is not devoid of talent. Makes first start since late-February, but will be barefoot for the occasion and, if applied, can pick up some prizemoney
  93. LUBIE DE CELINIERE – Imposed at Châtelaillon-La Rochelle a month ago before losing her action in an Enghien Class E mid-month. Form is not in question and can make a big splash if she gets off on the right foot
  94. LADIVINA – Hardy element but has not been seen out since September and is going to need the race
  95. LESPANA DU BOCAGE – Picked up in March where she left off in November, winning 2 straight. Eliminated at Enghien but can play a small role if Alan Gendrot keeps her focused
  96. LISON DES GLENAN – Serious trotter but has better references in the other code and is unlikely to spring any surprises
  97. LINKIA DES APRES – Unexceptional in 2 here before running flattering 4th in a Vincennes Class E 3 weeks ago, and is unlikely to shake things up
  98. LARA VRIE – Had not put a foot wrong all year before faulting at Vincennes earlier in the month. Is reunited with Eric Raffin who came 2nd with here here 2 months ago and is easy to like for a place in the frame
  99. LOVELY KOOL – Showed improvement in a Villedieu-les-Poëles Class E 10 days ago but is out of her depth at this level and can be passed over
  100. LAZURA PRIOR – Ran 3rd at Caen prior to coming 2nd in a Meslay-du-Maine Class E 3 weeks ago. Is as competent racing left-handed as right- and must be considered a player
  101. LARAFALE PASMARICK – Good, consistent mare that won well at Le Croise-Laroche before running 3rd in an Enghien Class E 2 weeks ago. Is new to Laval but will appreciate these conditions and, given the entry, could well make first 5
  102. L’ILE D’HAUFOR – Has bags of ability but is as tricky as they come. Is shod for first start following a spell but is still not a priority
  103. LUANA SPORT – Useful mare that made her way back into the winners’ enclosure at La Guerche-de-Bretagne a month back. Is clearly better than most here and a repeat would be no surprise
Summary: Ideally-entered here and recently successful on turf, LUANA SPORT (15) looks capable of confirming. Jules Gastineau will still want to be wary of LUBIE DE CELINIERE (5) who is reunited with Benjamin Rochard who has already won twice with her, including over course and distance. Winner here in February, LARA VRIE (10) will be expected to bounce back from her Vincennes elimination. LAZURA PRIOR (12) is plainly close to her race and is back racing left-handed with a decent chance of picking up a place cheque.

  1. VARANDIR – Won on debut over 2100m at Parislongchamp on April 5th. Open to progress and holds strong claims of following up
  2. HELVETIOS – Got off the mark last time over 2500m at Nancy on April 4th in a maiden race. More to do but is progressing with race experience
  3. PELIGROSO – Ran well to be 2nd last time over 1900m at La Teste in a Class 2 race on April 1st. Capable of making an impact
  4. LE FUTUR – Recent success over 1900m at Bordeaux Le Bouscat in a handicap on March 27th. Among the leading each-way chances
  5. NEW RUN – Placed 3rd on his last run over 1900m at La Teste on April 1st in a Class 2 race. Unlikely to trouble some of these
  6. ZULU CHANT – Got his first win over 2200m in a maiden race at this track on March 29th on his last start. Improving and can not be ruled out
  7. VICTOIRE MAGIQUE – Two unplaced efforts this year, 6th in a Class 2 race on April 2nd at Chantilly over 2000m when last seen. Can be on the premises
  8. CRACKON – Ran well to be 2nd over 2300m at Le Mans in a Class 2 race on March 20th. Needs to improve in what looks a competitive race
  9. L’ABBAYE – Unplaced last time, 2nd before that over 2150m at Cagnes-Sur-Mer in a Class 1 race on February 15th. More needed to make the top four
  10. DERBYCAT – Won on her debut over 2300m at Durtal on March 22nd in a conditions race by a narrow margin. Has work to do to make the frame
Summary: VARANDIR (1) holds some lofty engagements late in the year and won with a bit to spare on his debut at Parislongchamp in a newcomers race at the start of this month. He can win again before heading for a Pattern race later in the season. ZULU CHANT (6) will try to make life difficult for the selection and his confidence will be high after winning at this track late in March. PELIGROSO (3) is another to pay attention to after a decent effort at La Teste when second. HELVETIOS (2) heads the rest.

  12. QUEENFLEUR – Two solid efforts of late, 2nd on the most recent over 2500m at Evreux in a Class 4 handicap on April 15th. Capable of making an impact
  13. ZARAKIVA – Won on her sole run this year over 2000m at Nancy in a Class 4 handicap on April 4th. Among the leading chances
  14. TIMBALLINA – Ran well to be 3rd over 2400m at Moulins in a Class 4 handicap on April 9th last time out. One to pay attention to each-way
  15. LOFSONGUR ISLANDE – Fair 5th last time out on April 4th, a win before that over 3200m at Lyon La Soie in a Class 4 race on February 24th. Can be on the premises
  16. LADY AGATA – Unplaced last time, 4th before that over 2700m at Chantilly on February 25th in a Class 3 handicap. Hardly inspiring
  17. RIO GRANDE – Three unplaced efforts of late, the latter over 1900m in a Class 3 handicap at Deauville on April 7th. Unlikely to threaten
  18. LAMIRAL DARHAAN – Unplaced last time, 2nd before that over 2000m in a Class 4 handicap at this track on March 29th. Hard to fancy
  19. EMBIEZ – 5th on her last start over 3150m at this track in a Class 4 handicap on April 13th, and a win over the same track and trip in October in a Class 4 race. In the mix
  20. ROLEXXA – Four unplaced runs this year, well beaten over 2400m at Saint-Cloud in a Class 3 handicap on April 10th. Looks vulnerable
Summary: QUEENFLEUR (2) has been in good shape recently, the latest when second at Evreux in a Class 4 race on April 15th. She can edge this over JOLI COUP (1), who scored at Strasbourg on April 18th in a Class 4 handicap and can not be ignored. TIMBALLINA (4) ran well to be third at Moulins earlier this month and has solid claims of making the top three. EMBIEZ (9) is another to consider and can be on the premises.
