French Selections Sunday 22nd

R1 VINCENNES [L-H]
C1 – PRIX DE DANGEUL – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Class B Race – Harness – EUR € 52,000

1. LOVI CADENCE – Sanctioned in a 2100m Class C here last Tuesday. Has done nothing noteworthy all year and is not about to break the mould

2. LORD DELO – 6th of 8 finishers, a place behind LAMONT DU DOUET (8), in a 2850m Class C here late last month. Will have come on for the run and looks a more serious proposition this time

3. LUGANO DE LOU – Won last 3 races he finished and would have been competitive in a 2850m Class C over the inner track here late-August had he not faulted, but his driver will be eager to put things right. Claim

4. LOOK MESLOIS – Capricious colt with buckets of untapped potential, making first appearance since faulting in a Class A over track and trip 4 months ago. Shoes back on, Eric Raffin drafted in for the occasion, and will be dangerous if he stays in stride

5. LORD DE BANVILLE – Modest 6th at Divonne-les-Bains before being sanctioned in late-August race of reference, and can be passed over

6. LOVER SIXTY ONE – Talented colt, but a handful. Has not been seen out since being sanctioned in a 2800m Bernay Class B late-July, and is unlikely to cause an upset

7. LOVER JULMA – 4th of 9 when preparing for this in a 2800m Bernay Class B late-July. Comes here fresh, sporting pads for the occasion and, already proven over the main track, should not be too far off the mark

8. LAMONT DU DOUET – Won at Enghien before coming 4th of 8 finishers in a 2850m Class C here late last month, beating LORD DELO (2), and can again finish close

9. LYNYRD SKYNYRD – Super run of form came to an end when sanctioned early in a Class A over course and distance late last month [2 false starts]. Should not be hastily-judged and must be considered a decent first-5 prospect

10. LIPTON LATAL – Was on a superb run of form before finishing last but one in a Class A over course and distance on 26 August. Steps back in category and is in with a realistic shout of imposing

11. LOTUS GRIFF – Valiant 2nd of 11 in a 2875m Enghien Class C early last month. Takes on a better lot here but has 4 pads fitted for first time and will be worth watching

Summary: It’s often a case of all-or-nothing for LUGANO DE LOU (3) who has yet to deliver racing right-handed, but he was flying on the inner track here when sanctioned last time out, and can wrap this up if Alexandre Abrivard keeps him trotting. LIPTON LATAL (10) drops back to a more reasonable level and, front shoes fitted, looks the principal danger. JMB’s talented LORD DELO (2) was given an easy re-entry and should more than have the measure of LAMONT DU DOUET (8) who finished a place ahead of him that day.

SELECTIONS
LUGANO DE LOU (3) – LIPTON LATAL (10) – LORD DELO (2) – LAMONT DU DOUET (8)
C2 – PRIX DE BAYEUX – 2850m (a2m) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 40,000

1. KSAR VRIE – Won 3 of last 4, latterly with authority in a 2300m Marseille-Borély Class E on 29 August. Reverts to his Cagnes configuration for Vincennes debut and the Alexandre Abrivard-factor cannot be ignored

2. KOQUIN D’AMOUR – Runner-up in last 2, most recently to KRONOS ZEN (9), in a 2700m Class E here late last month. First time unshod-all-4 however and warrants considerable respect

3. KHEOPS BOURBON – Showed improvement when 4th of 10 in a 2875m Enghien Class D mid-August. Has yet to deliver at Vincennes but is still worth monitoring

4. KASH PRIDE – Made up for his Enghien blip when 3rd of 10, at 81/1, in a 2100m Class D here a month back, but a repeat seems improbable

5. KIWI DU LOISIR – Tricky character that came in an unexceptional 5th of 9 in a 2850m Feurs Class B 3 weeks ago. Pleased once here at 3 but looks out of his depth this time

6. KILLER FOR LOVA – Has not been seen out since finishing 9th of 11 in a 2700m Class B here 7 months ago. Shoes on and can expect to find himself treading water

7. KEEN ON ME – Pleasant 4th here last month before finishing 7th of 10 in a 2825m Chartres Class B 9 days ago. Shoes back on but still not a concern

8. KARLOS DU LOISIR – Solid in both recent Vincennes appearances, latterly 4th of 12 in a 2700m Class D here early this month. Beat KAVANI (11) that day and is unlikely to disappoint

9. KRONOS ZEN – Seldom lets the side down when focused which he showed on 28 August when storming to victory in a 2700m Class E here. Steps up in category but still looks the pick of the field

10. KIPLING IRON – Disappointing last of 12 in a 2700m Class D here early this month. In not devoid of talent though and it is only a question of time before he comes good again

11. KAVANI – Unlucky 5th of 12, behind KARLOS DU LOISIR (8), in a 2700m Class D here early this month, but will have a lot more to offer if Rochard keeps him out of trouble

Summary: He may not be the easiest horse to deal with but KRONOS ZEN (9) was never troubled here late last month and, with Eric Raffin engaged for the occasion, has every chance of doubling his money. Second to him that day, KOQUIN D’AMOUR (2) races barefoot for the first time, which will keep the champion driver keen. Arguably not as sharp as he was last winter, KAVANI (11) sports a new configuration and being entrusted to Benjamin Rochard will do his prospects no disservice. KARLOS DU LOISIR (8) is clearly back on the boil and Franck Nivard gets the nod again.

SELECTIONS
KRONOS ZEN (9) – KOQUIN D’AMOUR (2) – KAVANI (11) – KARLOS DU LOISIR (8)
C3 – PRIX FRANCE ALZHEIMER (CLERMONT-FERRAND) – 2100m (a1m1/4) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 56,000

1. HERMES D’ECROVILLE – 3rd in a tough event here late-August before running 4th of 12 in a 2825m Chartres Class F 9 days ago. Unlikely to cause an upset but can nevertheless make first 5

2. HALO AM – Has taken particularly well to French conditions, most recently making short work of a 2850m Class D here a month ago. Has nothing to prove over these shorter trips and is ideally-positioned to win this

3. BRAVEHEART GRIF – 3rd of 11 to HALO AM (2) in a 2850m Class D here on 21 August. Entrusted to Eric Raffin for first time and should be able to close the gap somewhat

4. HIVER D’AUTHISE – Won 2 of last 3, latterly by little in a 2950m Le Mans Class E 11 days ago. Has references here, is barefoot for the occasion, and should not be overlooked

5. GO FAST ROC – Won 2 on turf last month before disappointing 13th of 14 in a Class E over course and distance a fortnight ago. Sports 4 pads for first time but others still preferred

6. GARTH VADER – Returns to Vincennes after faulting in a 3150m Abbeville Class F on 24 August. Has made the frame on both occasions under these conditions however and, reunited with Matthieu Abrivard, will be afforded every chance

7. SIDNEY CELEBER – Sanctioned when never at his ease in a 2850m Class D here a month ago. Is plainly in form though and will be no easy touch if Gabi Gelormini keeps him trotting

8. GAULE ROMAINE – Last but one in a 3150m Abbeville Class E  2 weeks ago. Has looked very ordinary of late and can be passed over

9. GIGA DES PLAINES – Has done nothing of note recently, latterly 7th of 10, behind GAULE ROMAINE (8), in a 2550m Cherbourg Class E on 19 August, and has no possible chance

10. HORIZON D’EYMY – Hardy element with an enviable strike-rate. Sanctioned when favourite in a 2700m Class F at La Capelle 2 weeks ago. Has no references here but will still generate some interest

Summary: Very easy to like and presently in cracking form, HALO AM (2) was simply superb over 2850m here a month ago, thrives over these shorter trips, and will take all the beating. Leading the opposition is GARTH VADER (6) who took particularly well to these conditions earlier in the summer, and SIDNEY CELEBER (7) who will be expected to make amends for his recent sanction. Third to Dominik Locqueneux’s horse on his Vincennes debut a month back, BRAVEHEART GRIF (3) will not be sent out at 140/1 this time around.

SELECTIONS
HALO AM (2) – GARTH VADER (6) – SIDNEY CELEBER (7) – BRAVEHEART GRIF (3)
C4 – PRIX DE MONTELIMAR (PX JONEL CHYRIACOS) – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Class C Race – Harness – EUR € 53,000

1. JET SET – By no means disgraced when 5th of 15, behind JOY JENILOU (8), in a 2850m Class D here on 6 September, and with some luck in running, can pick up a cheque

2. JAVA D’ANAMA – 9th of 11, on re-entry, in a 2775m Craon Class D 3 weeks ago. Has won twice over track and trip, and goes barefoot this time, but still looks out of her depth

3. JESTA BUISSONAY – Has been struggling lately, most recently last but one, behind JONQUILLE DE MEAT (14), in a 2875m Enghien Class D mid-August, and will have nothing to offer

4. JUNON DE LOU – Hard to knock at present, latterly 2nd of 13 in a 2700m Class D at La Capelle on 27 August. Barefoot with Alexandre Abrivard in the bike this time, but others still easier to back

5. JODANNE DIESCHOOT – In the frame in 3 of last 4, most recently 2nd of 13 in a 2950m Le Mans Class E  11 days ago. Has delivered just once from 11 starts over the main track and not easy to back

6. JOMA OV – Useful sort making first appearance since coming 5th of 13 in a 2200m Caen Class C last May. Competitively-shod but others still preferred

7. JOYCE DES GRANGES – Consistently in the thick of things when focused and barefoot, most recently 2nd of 6 in a 2700m Class D at La Capelle 2.5 weeks ago. Has not won for some time but appreciates Vincennes and will not be far from the action

8. JOY JENILOU – Reassuring 2nd of 15 in a 2850m Class D here on 6 September, posting a decent time for this category, and will again figure prominently if she stays in stride

9. JALOUSIE MAZA – One of the most faithful horses here, when focused, most recently winning a 2750m Cabourg Class D a month ago. Is a course-and-distance winner and returns to Vincennes with legitimate ambition

10. JOURNEE REVEE – Placed at Argentan early-August before finishing 6th of 8 finishers in a 2100m Class D here late last month and, even sporting a new configuration, will struggle to make her mark

11. JITANE VALLEE – Made up for her Enghien performance when powering to victory in a 2925m Cagnes Class D mid-August. Has no particular love for Vincennes but is nevertheless difficult to ignore

12. JOLYSTAR GEDE – Never far from faulting and unimpressive 5th of 7 in a Class C over course and distance late last month, but has already delivered this summer and, with application, can go far

13. JETIDA – Quality mare that ran 6th of 9 finishers, on return from a spell, in a 3000m Châteaubriant Class D a fortnight ago. Entrusted to Antoine Dabouis [Mottier suspended] and can open her autumn account

14. JONQUILLE DE MEAT – Consistently-performant mare that came 4th of 15 in a 2875m Enghien Class D mid-April. Is not enamoured with Vincennes though and can be passed over

15. JUSTICIA SMART – Not short of ability but is a tricky horse to handle, most recently sanctioned in a 3000m Châteaubriant Class D 2 weeks ago. Brother Eric on board this time and can play a role if she keeps her action together

Summary: Sent for a short rest after ‘cantering’ up at Enghien, JETIDA (13) has one conditioner under her belt and, already a winner under these conditions, goes barefoot and will be expected to confirm. Antoine Dabouis will still be justifiably wary of the fine JALOUSIE MAZA (9) who has solid Vincennes references, and the complicated JOLYSTAR GEDE (12) who is fitted with front pads this time. It has taken little time for JOYCE DES GRANGES (7) to get back in shape and, while unlikely to win this, can still play an active role.

SELECTIONS
JETIDA (13) – JALOUSIE MAZA (9) – JOLYSTAR GEDE (12) – JOYCE DES GRANGES (7)
C5 – PRIX D’ANCENIS – 2850m (a2m) – Class C Race – Harness – EUR € 68,000

1. BITCOIND’ARC – Showed excellent form despite faulting on comeback in a 2100m Class D here 9 days ago. Faces his toughest French challenge to date but the engagement of Eric Raffin will only enhance his prospects

2. FLASH DU BIWETZ – 9th of 13, on return from a layoff, in a 2800m Bernay Class E on 25 August. Just front pads fitted and will have other objectives

3. LAST WINNER (BEL) – Has merit and is proven here but will need to improve on recent 6th of 13 in a 2700m Class D at La Capelle 2.5 weeks ago

4. FILOU DE LARRE – Placed twice before coming 4th of 14 in a Class C over course and distance on 26 August. Seldom disappoints when applied here and will be competitive for a podium place

5. HISTOIRE MODERNE – Complicated mare that finished 11th of 14 in a 2700m Class C here a fortnight ago and must first get her house in order

6. MARION FOUTY BON – Won a monté Class C at Enghien before faulting in an 1800m Gr.2 at La Capelle 2.5 weeks ago. Has previously won at the venue but still no more than a minor place chance

7. HAITIAN FIGHT SONG –

8. HEADSCOTT – Won at La Rochelle before coming 3rd of 12 in a 2150m Enghien Class D mid-August. Has nothing to prove at this level and the revised formula may be just the ticket. Chance

9. GLOBAL AGREEMENT – Remarkably-consistent sort making first appearance since motoring home in a 2150m Enghien Class D 2 months ago. Comes here fresh and barefoot, and has every chance of maintaining a perfect French record

10. BAHIA DEL CIRCEO – Starts for first time since faulting in a 1609m Enghien Gr.2 mid-July. Is considerably better than recent numbers would suggest and has won numerous time for his driver. Attention

Summary: Unbeaten in 6 starts since coming to France, three of them at Vincennes, GLOBAL AGREEMENT (9) may never have raced beyond 2640m but is thoroughly up to the task and looks set to secure a 7-timer! Plainly in excellent shape, HEADSCOTT (8) showed great courage at Enghien, has previously won a Gr.3 under these conditions and, shod as he was that day, will not go down easily. Impressive earlier in the year, BITCOIND’ARC (1) was sanctioned on his re-entry but nevertheless showed his form and, with Eric Raffin in charge this time, will be given every chance. 4th in a similar event here late last month, FILOU DE LARRE (4) will have a claim on a spot in the frame.

SELECTIONS
GLOBAL AGREEMENT (9) – HEADSCOTT (8) – BITCOIND’ARC (1) – FILOU DE LARRE (4)
C6 – PRIX GEORGES DREUX – 2850m (a2m) – Gr3 Race – Mounted – EUR € 90,000

1. GUINESS D’HERFRAIE – 5th of 12 in a 2850m harness Class B here late last month. Sanctioned on lone appearance under the saddle and is simply not up to the task

2. GEORGICA GEDE – Defied her 56/1 to come 3rd [inherited] of 9 in Gr.2 Prix Camille Lepecq on 3 September. Benjamin Rochard back in the irons and, if not a flash in the pan, will be no soft touch

3. EXTREME DESBOIS – Won 3 on the trot, including under these conditions, before being disqualified after coming close 3rd to FULTON (9) in Gr.2 Prix Camille Lepecq earlier this month. With application though, could pleasantly surprise

4. INSHORE – Sent for a spell after winning a 2700m Gr.3 here, returning a month ago to finish a valiant 3rd to EXTREME DESBOIS (3) in a Class A over course and distance. Will have come on for the run and looks a serious proposition

5. FOUGUE DU DOLLAR – Unremarkable mare that came 7th of 9 to FULTON (9) in 3 September race of reference. Has merit but, in this company, has no realistic chance

6. GO FOR THE GOLD – Won a Gr.3 here during the spring but has failed to repeat, latterly 6th of 11 to EXTREME DESBOIS (3) in a Class A over course and distance on 24 August, and will need to show marked improvement

7. GRANIT MESLOIS – Last year’s winner that finished last of 9 when preparing for this in Gr.2 Prix Camille Lepecq earlier this month. Will be fully-fit by now and, with stride in check, can bring home the bacon once more

8. FILWELL – Unremarkable 4th to FULTON (9) in 2175m Gr.3 Prix Camille Lepecq on 3 September. Close 2nd in last year’s edition but has others to contend with this time

9. FULTON – Complicated type that showed his form with a tenacious 2175m Gr.3 Prix Camille Lepecq success earlier this month. Is never easy to knock when applied and Damien Bonne will be keen to prove a point. Chance

Summary: Tenacious winner 12 months ago, GRANIT MESLOIS (7) went on to better things later last season; he has 2 conditioners under his belt and, barefoot as he likes, has every chance of securing his first objective of the new season. Victor Saussaye will nevertheless be legitimately concerned by last year’s 5th place, FULTON (9), who was eye-catching in the Gr.2 Prix Camille Lepecq earlier this month. Like a horse reborn since mid-June, INSHORE (4) put on a good show on comeback here a month ago and will again be competitive for a spot in the mix.

SELECTIONS
GRANIT MESLOIS (7) – FULTON (9) – INSHORE (4) – GEORGICA GEDE (2)
C7 – PRIX DE TAVERNY – 2850m (a2m) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 41,000

1. ILLICO DES BROUETS – Went into his spell on a low note and returned late-July only to be sanctioned in a 2750m Class F at La Capelle. Change of shoeing but still not a player

2. INSOLITE EFBE – Imposed at Bréhal before trotting 8th of 14 in a 2100m Class D here 3 weeks ago. Shoes on again and chances limited

3. ICONE DU GARDEN – Reassuring 3rd of 13 in a 2725m Pornichet Class F late-August. Placed just once in 3 under these conditions though and, considering the opposition, is unlikely to shake things up

4. IRMA DE L’ECLAIR – Clearly close to her best, most recently 3rd of 13 in a 2450m Caen Class F 2 weeks ago, but has the boys to contend with this time and not a priority

5. INDUCTIF – Disappointing on the whole since the winter, latterly 12th of 14 in a 2100m Class D here 3 weeks ago, and can be ruled out

6. IAGO DE SENOVILLE – Sanctioned in a 2950m Vichy monté Class F last weekend. Shod this time and has other priorities

7. IMOKO MADRIK – Lacklustre lately, most recently sanctioned in a 2150m Mauquenchy Class E 10 days ago, but hails from a good yard. Is in his category, barefoot for the occasion, and is not incapable of springing a small surprise

8. ILTON DE BELLANDE – Bridesmaid in 3 before coming 4th of 12 in a 2700m Class F at Aix-les-Bains late-July. Is confirmed over the main track and will be expected to apply pressure on IPIPOURAX PAULOIS (10)

9. IVO SIVED – Barring one blip at La Capelle, has been hard to knock, most recently 3rd of 4 in a 2825m amateurs Class G at Le Croisé-Laroche 2 weeks ago. Shoes on, with Eric Raffin in charge, and is not one to be overlooked

10. IPIPOURAX PAULOIS – Scored for 4th time this year when running out an easy winner of a 2700m Class E here earlier in the month and once again looks the horse to beat

11. IL MAGNIFICO – Comfortable winner of a 2700m Class F at Le Croisé-Laroche 3 weeks ago. Has yet to deliver at Vincennes but in current condition is very easy to like

12. ICARE DE LA DORETE – Continued his productive streak with 3rd of 10 in a 2525m amateurs Class H at Les Andelys last Sunday. Steps back up in category but sports a revised formula, with Gabi Gelormini in the bike, and must not be underestimated

13. IVARUN – Hardy element that finished 8th of 11, on return to competition, in a 2775m Craon Class F 3 weeks ago. Races barefoot this time but other still easier to back

14. IT’S CLASSIC ROCK – Has hardly put a foot wrong since start of summer, latterly winning a 2900m  Class F at La Chartre-sur-le-Loir  on 18 August. Enjoys a good entry and David Thomain will be keen to capitalise

15. ILLICO DE BOUTEAU – 10th of 12 in a 2550m Dieppe Class F last Monday. Has been off the boil since the spring and, with front pads fitted, can be ignored

Summary: Despite missing all of 2023, IPIPOURAX PAULOIS (10) has, if anything, improved, and a repeat of his recent romp would see him double up. ILTON DE BELLANDE (8) is plainly close to his race and is reunited with Matthieu Abrivard. IT’S CLASSIC ROCK (14) has been in tremendous form in the provinces and can play an active role if he takes to the new profile. Back in the capital after winning 2 of his last 3, IL MAGNIFICO (11) will be partnered by Yoann Lebourgeois and looks competitively well-in.

C8 – PRIX DE MILLY LA FORET – 2850m (a2m) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 41,000

1. PAVILLON (BEL) – Has hardly put a foot wrong at home, most recently 2nd of 9 over 2300m at Mons 11 days ago. Goes barefoot, with Pierre-Yves Verva reining, but still appears to have too much to do

2. DEPP DELL’OLMO – Takes first steps at Vincennes after faulting, at 92/1, in a 2150m Enghien Class E early-August. Races barefoot, with Gabi Gelormini reining this time, but still not a priority

3. COSTELLO O.E. – Won over 2300m at Mons 11 days ago. Finished 2nd but placed 3rd, after enquiry, at Enghien late-July. Boasts an excellent record at home and will not be far off the mark if he takes to the new conditions

4. DANILO SPRITZ – Makes first appearance north of the border after coming 2nd of 6 over 2060m in Turin 3 weeks ago. Races first-time barefoot, with Alexandre Abrivard in the bike, but is nonetheless being aimed too high

5. PRESTO D’AN – Missed out by little for 4th in 7 September race of reference, however a repeat seems unlikely

6. JOYAUX DE REUX – Hardy sort that was just headed in a 2725m Pornichet Class F on 1 August. First time in the capital and would be preferred a level down

7. JOKER STAR (SPA) – Useful Spanish raider that finished 8th of 13, behind D J DEI VELTRI (9), in a Class E over 2700m here a fortnight ago. Is better than that and considerable improvement is expected

8. JIBRIL SNOB – Prepared in the provinces, latterly easy winner of a 2850m Laval Class F on 30 August. Has ideal partner for his metropolitan debut and, if he takes to the new profile, should have this in the bag

9. D J DEI VELTRI – Sprang something of a surprise when 3rd of 13 in a 2700m Class E here 2 weeks ago, but faces a stiffer test this time around

10. JOYAU DAIRPET – Beaten by JIBRIL SNOB (8) at Laval, bouncing back with victory in a 2800m Rambouillet Class F a fortnight ago and again seems closest threat

11. JAGUAR DE ROZEVIC – Not disgraced before being sanctioned in race of reference. Is clearly in form, reverts to a previous formula, but others still preferred

12. JOKER CASTILUANNE – Consistently in the mix when focused, latterly 4th behind D J DEI VELTRI (9), in a Class E over 2700m here a fortnight ago. Shod more competitively on this occasion and can make the frame

13. GLOBAL DUTY – 6th of 13 in 7 September race of reference. Is an honest trotter that always gives his best but represents no more than a minor place prospect

14. JUEN EMONDEVILLE – Like a horse reborn since returning from his break, most recently winning a 2650m Class E at Les Sables-d’Olonne, with ease, 3.5 weeks ago. Unlikely to repeat but can still pick up a cheque

15. JOE LE VEINARD – Imposed at La Capelle late-July before coming 6th of 14 in a 2700m Class E at the same venue 3.5 weeks ago. Barefoot this time but still not an obvious choice

Summary: Very hard to fault when focused, JIBRIL SNOB (8) made short work of a Laval Class F last time out, on his first association with Eric Raffin, and is eminently capable of making his Vincennes debut a winning one. Runner-up to him that day before going on to win on turf, JOYAU DAIRPET (10) is the obvious danger, although the on-form, and reconfigured, JOKER CASTILUANNE (12) must be taken more seriously this time. Unplaced that day, on his French debut, JOKER STAR (SPA) (7) has not travelled this far for nothing, and the engagement of Franck Ouvrie is telling.

C9 – PRIX DE BAGNERES – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Class A Race – Mounted – EUR € 62,000

1. LOUXOR DE JOUB – Won at Caen before being sent for a break after trotting 2nd of 7 in a Class B over course and distance on 18 June. Unlikely to cause an upset on first start back but can still play an active role

2. LOTUS PAULOIS – Failed to confirm his inner-track performance when 6th of 8 in a 2700m Class C here earlier in the month, and will have little to contribute

3. LEADER DU CHATAULT – Has looked very ordinary since the spell, latterly last but one in a 2950m Vichy harness Class B late-August. Debuts under the saddle, with Alexandre Abrivard in the irons, but still looks outclassed

4. LOBBY MESLOIS – Makes first appearance since faulting in a 2250m Enghien Class C on 17 July. Steps up in category but has bags of ability and, with stride in check, will not be going home empty-handed

5. LOCHAN – Yet to put a foot wrong, most recently making short work of a 2200m Class C here  on 17 August and, if he takes to the main-track profile, will be no pushover

6. LEVRETTE – Won at Cagnes late-July before coming 3rd of 5 in a 2925m harness Class A at the same venue a month ago. Shoes back on and others easier to trust

7. LAMBADA DU GOUTIER – Has not been seen out since winning a Class B over course and distance, with consummate ease, on 18 June. Takes on the colts this time however and is also unlikely to be given a hard race

8. LEO DES MALBERAUX – Returns to the code after finishing 10th of 11 in a harness Class A over course and distance 2 weeks ago. Is not short of ability though and, if focused, can get a look-in

9. LEGENDE DU GOUTIER – Has done nothing but progress since her victorious debut, latterly storming home in a Class C over course and distance 2.5 weeks ago. In better company this time but still looks a serious player

10. LIONHEART – Serious future prospect that made no bones about winning a 2725m Pornichet harness Class B with ease, on re-entry, mid-August. Will have come on for the run and should logically keep his perfect monté record intact

11. LUZ FATALE – 4th of 5 in a 2175m Gr.3 here a month ago. Is back at a more reasonable level and, proven over track and trip, is unlikely to be far from the action

12. LOTUS ZEN – Last of 5 in a Vincennes Gr.3 before finishing last but one, when prepping for this, in a 2750m Cagnes harness Class B 2.5 weeks ago. Sports pads for the occasion and should be good enough to finish in the mix

Summary: Winner under these conditions on his monté debut last May before being given a holiday, LIONHEART (10) won comfortably under the saddle on comeback last month and, with Eric Raffin back on board, will take all the beating. That said, LEGENDE DU GOUTIER (9) has not once disappointed in the discipline and is not incapable of securing the hat-trick. Terrific winner over 2200m here mid-August, LOCHAN (5) has earned the right to step up in class and, fitted with pads for first time, must also be considered a contender. LUZ FATALE (11) takes a dip in category and will be expected to prove more competitive this time.

12. TOTE BAG – Runner-up in consecutive handicaps before a disappointing last start (8th) in a 1600m ParisLongchamp handicap on 29 August. This distance will be more to his liking so he could be worth another chance here

13. RUM TUM TUGGER – Achieved his best references in the claiming category and finished downfield in each of 3 handicap starts this year, the latest (10th) over 2500m at ParisLongchamp on 1 September

14. GARDEN CHOP – A 16-start maiden whose best performances/references were achieved in claiming races. Unplaced (12th) in his only handicap appearance over 2000m at La Teste on 3 July

15. PROUD LUCY – Unplaced although not beaten far in 3 maiden races before finishing downfield (12th) on her handicap at Clairefontaine over 2200m on 16 August. Wears headgear for the first time

16. BULLANT – Not disgraced on his handicap debut, finishing 6th of 13 over 2500m at ParisLongchamp on 1 September. Dangerous to discount his chances

17. MARINELLA – Didn’t go unnoticed when 4th on debut at Morlaix in May but hasn’t built on that encouragement in her 5 subsequent starts, unplaced on each occasion – the latest (7th) over 2000m at Strasbourg on 8 September

18. ENORA SENORA – Finished an eye-catching 3rd in a 2000m Saint-Cloud handicap on 10 May but regressed in 3 subsequent outings, the latest (10th) in a 1900m PSF handicap at Chantilly on 3 September

Summary: NICE RULER (8) has improved with each handicap appearance and, on the evidence of his fast-finishing 3rd over 1900m on PSF last time, this extended trip could unlock sufficient progress for him to open his account. However, HOLLY PHELIE (2) is closely matched on that form (finished a neck behind the selection) so she will pose a threat. TOTE BAG (12) will fare better over this distance after a disappointing last start over an inadequate trip, so he isn’t underestimated. SHALAA DANCER (11) is the only last-start winner in the race and he ought to remain competitive despite a resultant penalty.

SELECTIONS
NICE RULER (8) – HOLLY PHELIE (2) – TOTE BAG (12) – SHALAA DANCER (11)
C3 – PRIX TOYOTA TEAM COLIN (PRIX DU BOIS NOTRE-DAME) – 1400m (a7f) – TURF – Claiming – Flat – EUR € 24,000

1. MISS LACOUMA – Supplemented for this race and is Ideally engaged/favourably treated under the conditions. Acquitted herself well in defeat when 3rd in a 1600m conditions race at Vichy on 23 August – will appreciate this shorter trip

2. JOHNNY JANE – Unplaced/soundly beaten in both outings, the latest (8th) over 1000m at Dieppe on 1 June. Watch for now

3. BLUE HUNT – Having endured a tough trip, she did well to finish 5th in a 1400m claimer at ParisLongchamp on 29 August.Keep safe

4. EAGLE GATE – Changed hands following his last-start victory in a 1400m claimer at Compiegne on 17 September. Should be competitive for the leading places

5. EYWA – Consistent filly with sound form references/credentials in the claiming category, including a last-start 5th in a 1600m claimer at Saint-Cloud on 6 September

6. FISFUL OF LOVE – Experienced and consistent filly with sound references/form credentials at this level, albeit without a victory. Acquitted herself well (4th) in a 1600m handicap at Saint-Cloud on 13 September

7. KEY TO VICTORY – Won a 1600m claimer at Clairefontaine-Deauville on 31 July but has regressed in 3 starts since – finished (9th)in a 1200m handicap at Chantilly on 7 September. Outsider

Summary: Much was expected of MISS LACOUMA (1) over 1600m at Vichy late last month but she didn’t meet expectations, though she did acquit herself well (3rd) in defeat. She will appreciate reverting to this shorter distance and was supplemented for this race, so is good value to make amends at the primary expense of EAGLE GATE (4) who is favourably treated under the conditions in his first start for new connections. BLUE HUNT (3) and  FISFUL OF LOVE (6) are contenders for the remaining podium berth.

2. TOIJK – Hard-knocking versatile veteran handicapper with sound references at this venue, on turf and PSF, and in Quinte+ handicaps, including a last-start 7th in a 1500m PSF event at Deauville on 25 August. Will have a say

3. COLOMBIER – Placed 3rd at Group III as a three-year-old in the care of André Fabre. Made a winning French comeback over 1400m in a conditions race at Le Lion-d’Angers on 9 August – remains open to further improvement

4. LANAKEN – Enjoyed a very productive 2023 and has held his own in stronger races/fields this year. Didn’t go unnoticed when 7th in a 1400m Class 1 conditions race on PSF at Deauville on 18 August. Not taken lightly

5. ICE CLIMBER – This four-year-old Dark Angel gelding is trained and owned by Jean-Vincent Toux, who has engaged Brandon Flament to ride this newcomer. Best watched for now

6. KILOECHO – Honest hard-knocking veteran with sound references in handicaps. Well-beaten 15th in a 1500m PSF Quinte+ event at Deauville on 25 August but could fare better at this level – dark horse

7. HALEINE – Lightly raced with undeniable means/ability. Absent since finishing 5th in a 1600m Quinte+ handicap on PSF at Chantilly on 21 November 2023 – best watched for now

Summary: COLOMBIER (3) made an impressive winning return on French soil at Le Lion d’Angers last month and his momentum is unlikely to be halted. He will, however, have to thwart the likely challenges of LANAKEN (4), who is steadily regaining his form, and TOIJK (2) who need only produce a similar display to that of his Quinté+ performance on 25 August to play a leading role. GAILLARD (1) completes the shortlist.

Summary: Successful at Toulouse last week, Loeiza Hayères Fouchard and the in-form DELTA SPIRIT (1) are good value to add to their tally. Veteran mare ZARICA (7) will pose a threat if confirming the form/improvement of her last start. She leads the opposition ahead of CARTER AND GO (5), whose back-to-back 3rd-place finishes give her a solid shout here, and PANJAMAN (2) with skillful Berit Weber in the irons.

Summary: DAPANGO (1) got his career back on track with a morale-boosting claiming race victory in his first appearance on French soil and he ought to continue his momentum. TOLLEVAST (2) finished behind the selection at Dieppe last time and he renews rivalry with legitimate ambitions podium aspirations. LOUBEISIEN (7) and NAVARE (3) are inconsistent but will be competitive for a spot on the podium.

SELECTIONS

C7 – PRIX PHILIPPE LORAIN (CHMPT PARIS TURF DES APPRENTIS & JEUNES JOCKEYS) – 2600m (a1m1/2) – TURF – Class 3 Race – Flat – EUR € 20,000

1. ALGOT – Consistent lightly raced colt with references over this distance in handicap races – seldom finishes far off the mark. Didn’t go unnoticed when 54th on a 2400m claimer at La Roche-Posay on 8 September

2. NASDAQ – Returned from a 3-month absence to finish an encouraging 4th in a 2400m claimer at Saint-Cloud earlier this month (6 September). Open to improvement

3. HEAREN – Won a 200m Clairefontaine handicap in July and acquitted herself well under a 3,5kg penalty to finish 6th in a 2400m handicap at the venue on 12 August. Not taken lightly

4. ARTUS THE BRAVE – Debut winner over 2600m at Morlaix in May but has failed to build on that promise in his 5 subsequent starts, finishing unplaced in each – the latest (5th) over 2200m at Nantes on 10 September. Can do betterat this level

5. FREEZE – Winner over 2100m at Vittel early last month and proved his competitiveness under a 2,5kg penalty (current mark) by finishing 2nd over 2200m at that venue on 24 August. The longer distance should be to his liking

7. AODHA – Consistent stayer, albeit at a lower level. Seldom finishes far off the mark so she can get a look in if bouncing back from a disappointing 7th over 2100m at Le Touquet on 1 July

8. FLORAISON – Unplaced in all 4 appearances although 5th in 2 starts – twice 10th, including her latest on handicap debut at Strasbourg over 2300m on 8 September. Others preferred

Summary: FREEZE (5) wasn’t winning out of turn when scoring easily at Vittel early last month before proving his competitiveness off this mark (under a resultant penalty) by subsequently running well to finish 2nd at Clairefontaine. He remains open to improvement over this extended trip so gets the nod ahead of KEEP GOING (6) who has acquitted himself well enough in both comeback runs to make life difficult for the selection. HEAREN (3) and ARTUS THE BRAVE (4) have both the form and experience to get involved.
