R1 CAGNES-SUR-MER [L-H]
C1 – PRIX DE LA COTE D’AZUR – 2925m (a2m) – Gr3 Race – Harness – EUR € 130,000
- GAMIN DES PERDRIX – Encouraging 3rd of 9 finishers in a Class C over track and trip 3 weeks ago. Is pitted against better this time and even though reconfigured, is unlikely to spring any surprises
- DOLCE VIKY – 3rd of 8, a place behind IDEAL SAN LEANDRO (9), in prestigious Gran Premio Duomo over a mile at Visorno a month ago. Is arguably the better horse and will be expected to turn the tables and play a leading role
- FRONSAC – Last of 14, behind IDEAL SAN LEANDRO (9), when being conditioned in a Class B over course and distance on 28 December. Shoes on again and poses no danger
- COCCO BFC – Won 2 in a row before finishing 5th of 12 over 2060m in Rome a month back. Already 4 times a winner for Franck Ouvrie and is not incapable of getting a look-in
- ILLUSION JIPAD – Tricky mare that was sanctioned early in a 2850m Vincennes Gr.2 early last month. Boasts fine references with Eric Raffin reining and is unlikely to be far off the mark
- KING COLE (SWE) – Won 2 here before the break then imposed on comeback in a 2650m Bordeaux Class D 2.5 weeks ago. Hates to lose and will be expected to give DOLCE VIKY (2) a run for his money
- KYRIELLE – Takes a notable dip in class after finishing 11th of 13 in a 2100m Gr.1 here 2.5 weeks ago. Has talent to burn though and the engagement of Benjamin Rochard speaks volumes. Chance
- FIFTY BLACK – 11th of 14 behind IDEAL SAN LEANDRO (9) in a Class B over course and distance on 28 December. Has been reconfigured but would be preferred with front shoes on
- IDEAL SAN LEANDRO – Beat DOLCE VIKY (2) when 2nd at Visorno before coming 2nd of 14 in a Class B over course and distance 12 days ago. Thrives at Cagnes and in current form is easy to like for a spot on the podium
- GINO VIVA – Has been given ample time to freshen up after coming 6th of 14 in a 2100m Vincennes Class C mid-November. Has previously imposed here and even from the 2nd line can get in on the action
- GIMY DU POMMEREUX – Honourable 6th of 11 behind HONKY TONK BLUES (13) in a Gr.3 under these conditions on 21 December but the penalty will do his chances no favours
- GIBUS – Makes Cagnes debut after having finished last of 8 in a 2850m Vincennes monte Class B 3 weeks ago. Shoes on and no threat
- HONKY TONK BLUES – Showed marked improvement when 4th of 11 in a Gr.3 under these conditions on 21 December. Incurs the penalty this time and chances limited
- EDY DU POMMEREUX – Has not been seen out since running 7th of 11 behind EL GRECO BELLO (16) in a 2300m Mons Gr.3 late-October and will need the run
- FLOREAL – 2nd of 11 in a Class A over track and trip mid-December. Won this race 12 months ago but with an extra 25m to travel this time, looks more a minor place prospect
- EL GRECO BELLO – Produced a brace of good efforts before finishing last of 11 in a Gr.3 over course and distance on 21 December. On the back row again and others easier to back
Summary: Third in the Gr.1 Gran Premio delle Nazioni at San Siro before confirming behind the champion Vivid Wise As in Florence, DOLCE VIKY (2) may have no references beyond 2200m but he should take well to Cagnes conditions and can have his way. He is still going to face stiff opposition from the exceptional KING COLE (SWE) (6) who has never been bested here, and IDEAL SAN LEANDRO (9) who beat Alessandro Gocciadoro’s charge at Visorno. KYRIELLE (7) has serious credentials at a superior level and, barefoot for the occasion, this may well be the occasion that she starts to come good again.

C2 – PRIX JUNIOR DU RIB – 2925m (a2m) – Class G Amateur Drivers Race – Harness – EUR € 8,000 - JOIE DU GUELIER – Takes first steps in the category after finishing an unthreatening 7th of 11 in a 2150m Class F here 3 weeks ago. Has no particular liking for Cagnes and even from the front line will have little to contribute
- JANIS DE CHENU – Handy mare making just 2nd start back, latterly finishing last but one behind JOIE DU GUELIER (1) in a 2150m Class F here 3 weeks ago. Still in conditioning mode though and best to hold off
- HAVATAR – Made up for mid-December disappointment when 4th of 14 in a 2150m amateurs Class G here a week later. Front pads fitted for first time and in similar form can finish close
- HOLY GRACE – Back to her category of preference after finishing last but one behind HAVATAR (3) in a 2150m amateurs Class G here on 21 December but risks needing another run
- ISPAHAN TEAM – Ran good 3rd of 14 in an amateur Class F over course and distance last Friday. 25m worse off this time but still looks a major player
- IRONIE DU BAS BOSQ – Takes a dip in category after finishing 6th of 12 in a 2600m Parilly Class F on 1 December. Is confirmed in the amateur division but represents no more than a minor place prospect
- JAMAIQUE TURGOT – Has not been seen out since finishing last of 7 in a 2850m Hyeres Class C late-May. Is better than most here and even though shod for re-entry, can finish in the mix
- JOLI MEC D’AMOUR – Produced a fine comeback run in a Class D over course and distance mid-December, coming 3rd of 13. Will have come on for the race and despite the extra 25m to travel this time, still represents a serious contender
- INITIALE BLEUE – Drops back in category after running 2nd of 8 in a 2700m amateurs Class G here on 18 December. Thrives under these conditions and has a legitimate claim on the spoils
- JOJO LAPIN – Starts for first time since finishing 6th of 8 over 2100m at Wolvega late-September and will not be given a hard race
Summary: Easy winner in the amateur division before running 2nd in good company here 3 weeks ago, INITIALE BLEUE (9) has registered 3 of his 6 wins under these conditions and has a decent chance of extending that statistic. She can nonetheless expect to encounter resistance from the revitalised JOLI MEC D’AMOUR (8) who put on an excellent show here mid-December, and ISPAHAN TEAM (5) who has yet to disappoint in the amateur division.

C3 – PRIX PROMISING CATCH – 2925m (a2m) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 22,000 - KUBLAI KHAN – 2nd of 7 over 2600m at Wolvega 3 weeks ago. Has little liking for Cagnes though and is not about to cause an upset
- KAIROS DU GOUTIER – Put 4 sanctions behind him when 4th of 8 in a Class F over track and trip 2.5 weeks ago, but others still easier to trust
- KENT CLARK – Sanctioned when prepping for this in a 2650m Vivaux Class F on 12 December. Often a case of all-or-nothing and, if focused, can play a leading part
- KINGDOM DU LIAMONE – Failed to live up to expectations when 6th of 11 in a 2300m Borely Class E on 2 December. Front pads fitted this time but still not a player
- KARCIMONT – Going well when sanctioned in a Class E over course and distance on 18 December. Has never excelled at Cagnes but in present condition must be respected
- KINO DE LAUMIERE – 9th of 12, on comeback, in a Class C under these conditions late-December. Left a good impression nevertheless and looks capable of shaking things up here. Attention
- KIKO JOSSELYN – Tenacious 4th of 13 finishers in a Class E over course and distance on 18 December. Races barefoot again and although unlikely to impose, can still challenge for a place in the frame
- KINGSTON – Steps up in category after running 3rd of 8 finishers in a 2300m Marseille-Borely Class E on 2 December. Theo Briand keeps the drive and has the wherewithal to pick up a minor place payout
- KARMA DE BERTRANGE – Sanctioned in last 2, most recently a Class E over track and trip 3 weeks ago. Sports modified shoeing but others still preferred
- KITALIANO ALGREF – Sanctioned on return to competition in a 2850m Vincennes Class E a month ago. Has buckets of talent but is going to need another run
- KAMI DU BOURG – Reassuring, and surprising, 3rd of 11 in a 2050m Lyon-La Soie Class E a month ago. Faces a stiffer test this time though and chances appear limited
- KASIMODO – Won a Bordeaux claimer before coming 5th of of 13 finishers, a place behind KIKO JOSSELYN (7), in a Class E over course and distance on 18 December. Is no champion but always gives his best and can get a look-in
- KOKIN DE BELLANDE – Made up for Borely sanction when 4th of 11, a place behind KAMI DU BOURG (11), in a 2050m Lyon-La Soie Class E a month ago. Enjoys a decent engagement and is not one to be ignored. First 5
- KASSOUMAYE – Showed his form despite being quickly sanctioned in a Class E over course and distance 3 weeks ago. Enjoys a fine entry and can have his day in the sun if Esteban De Jesus assures his initial strides
Summary: This race should prove something of an open affair but it would be no surprise to see the well-entered, and reconfigured, KASSOUMAYE (14) redeeming himself after having faulted early here last month. He is nevertheless going to come under pressure from the likes of barefoot KENT CLARK (3) who can make a big splash if Nicolas Ensch keeps him trotting, and a similarly-unshod KINO DE LAUMIERE (6) who has a conditioner under his belt. KIKO JOSSELYN (7) produced a fast time here 3 weeks ago and merits significant respect.

C4 – PRIX METEOR II – 2925m (a2m) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 26,000 - IESOLO D’HERIPRE – Last of 13 behind ICARE FILE (12) in a 2150m Class E here mid-December. Has decent references when barefoot but others still preferred
- IT’S EAGLE COGLAIS – Steps up in category after coming 2nd of 11 in a 2700m Class G here 2.5 weeks ago but in this company can expect to find the going much tougher
- INNOCENT DU BOURG – Returns to racing barefoot after finishing last of 11 behind IMBRIN BUROIS (4) in a Class E over course and distance 2.5 weeks ago. Has no particular love for Cagnes and can be passed over
- IMBRIN BUROIS – Pleasantly surprising 3rd of 11 in a Class E over course and distance 2.5 weeks ago, but races shod this time and chances slim
- JAURESS DE CANI – Valiant 6th of 12 behind IDEFIX JIHEM (15) in a Class C under these conditions 12 days ago. Appears to be on the way back up and has a realistic chance of making first 5
- HELICE DU TREZON – Comfortable winner, at 60/1, in a 2700m Class F here last Friday. Entrusted to champion driver for first time and must be considered a major player
- IBROX PARK – Surprisingly sanctioned in a 2700m Class E at Lyon-La Soie Class E a month ago. Is plainly in shape though and is unlikely to disappoint
- INTUITION SOYER – Imposed at Vivaux before coming 4th of 11, a place behind IMBRIN BUROIS (4), in a Class E over course and distance 2.5 weeks ago. Front pads fitted this time but appears to have a mountain to climb
- ITALIA DRY – Out of the picture in last 4, most recently 12th of 13 behind ICARE FILE (12) in a 2150m Class E here mid-December, and can be confidently ruled out
- ISABEY QUESNOT – Last but one on comeback in a 2875m Meslay Class E 3 weeks ago. Goes barefoot this time but has no possible chance
- JIQUEL – Quickly sanctioned in a Class C under these conditions late last month. Is better than recent numbers would suggest and, with pads fitted for first time, can start to get back in the game
- ICARE FILE – Made up for Vivaux disappointment when 3rd of 13, at 59/1, in a 2150m Class E here mid-December. Shod to preference this time and while not a priority, can still make his presence felt
- HASHTAG DE TAGOR – Imposed at Lyon-La Soie before running 3rd of 14 to HELICE DU TREZON (6) in a 2700m Class F here last Friday. Maintains current configuration and with application can play a small part
- JALOUSIE DE L’ISLE – 10th of 14 on return to competition in a 2700m Vincennes Class C on 21 December. Has decent Cagnes references and, if sufficiently fit, can play a leading role
- IDEFIX JIHEM – Took little time getting back in condition, most recently 3rd of 12 in a Class C under these conditions 12 days ago, and considering the opposition can impose this time
Summary: Superbly-engaged at the limit of earnings, IDEFIX JIHEM (15) was very impressive here late last month and, reconfigured for the occasion, can get off the mark for 2025. Also well-in, JALOUSIE DE L’ISLE (14) is back in the Fresneau yard and at this level, will be no pushover. HELICE DU TREZON (6) steps marginally up in category but she showed her form here last week and, barefoot with Eric Raffin reining, must not be underestimated. A tough nut when focused, IBROX PARK (7) tends to deliver at Cagnes and will be competitive for a place cheque.

C5 – PRIX KAIZER SOZE – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 33,000 - SILVER BULLIT(SWE) – Faithful sort that ran 3rd of 10 over 2300m at Mons 10 days ago. Is new to the venue, has been allocated the inside line, and is unlikely to shake things up
- IQUEM – Sanctioned in a 2850m Vincennes Class E on 21 December. Is no slouch when focused though and with Mathieu Mottier in the bike, will be afforded every chance
- GRIZMAN – Surprisingly sanctioned in a 2925m Class E here a fortnight ago. Has nothing to prove under these conditions and with Eric Raffin reining is unlikely to be far from the action
- HOKIO – Last of 12 when prepping for this in a 2925m Class C here last Friday. In the frame in last 2 starts here and, fully-fit, will be no easy touch
- IRINA D’ATOUT – 6th of 18 when preparing for this in a 2800m Pontchateau Class E 2.5 weeks ago. Nicely-placed in front and is not incapable of winning this
- HALFAN SPEED – Made it 2 in a row when easily winning a 2700m Class E at Le Croise-Laroche mid-December. In better company this time but excels at Cagnes and his place is in first 3
- HEAGLE ONE – 8th of 13 in a 2925m Class E here 2 weeks ago. Off his porridge since returning to competition and must first re-establish his credentials
- L.A.BOKO – Makes French debut not having been seen out since finishing 10th of 12 over 2140m in Gothenburg on 13 November. Starts on a track which should suit him and it would be no surprise to see him get his nose in front
- IBIZA EVENING – Fine servant that ran 2nd of 9 in a 2925m Class E here mid-December. Is a model of consistency and, if applied, will have claims on a first-5 cheque
- FLOCON MONTJEANAIS – Unable to replicate Borely performance when 6th of 13 in a 2100m Vincennes Class D on 6 December, but returns to the Riviera which a decent chance of picking up some crumbs
- HELIOT DE GACHERE – Surprisingly below-par 7th of 14 to HALFAN SPEED (6) in a 2700m Class E at Le Croise-Laroche mid-December. Has solid Cagnes references but with shoes on will have nothing to offer
- HIPSTER – 10th of 12 in a 2925m Class C here on 28 December. Has previously imposed in the day’s configuration but is nonetheless difficult to recommend
- CUBA DEL DUOMO – Capable Italian mare that ran 2nd over 1660m in Bologna on 29 December. Has decent French references but will struggle to make her mark this time
Summary: Recent arrival in Dominik Locqueneux’s yard after having shown considerable ability in Sweden, L.A.BOKO (8) may not be ideally-drawn but he gets a Gabriele Gelormini drive for his French debut and can make it a winning one. Better-positioned behind the car, IRINA D’ATOUT (5) sports a fresh configuration, will be reined by Benjamin Rochard for the first time, and looks a serious proposition. Breaking just to her outside, HALFAN SPEED (6) returns to Cagnes on a hat-trick and will have his chances. Confirmed at the venue, and barefoot following 3 conditioners, HOKIO (4) has been handed an excellent draw and Nicolas Ensch will be keen to capitalise.

C6 – PRIX HULK DE GODISSON – 2925m (a2m) – Class D Race – Mounted – EUR € 38,000 - JAVA D’ECAJEUL – Won 4 on the trot before being disqualified in a 2925m harness Class D conditioner here on 21 December. Has won 5 from 6 for the day’s driver and must be considered a top pick

- JIROBELLO – Serious sort back in his code of preference after finishing last of 11 in a 2700m harness Class C conditioner 3 weeks ago. Sports a fresh configuration but still looks good enough to win this
- GENIALISSIME – Returns to the monte discipline after running 4th of 14 in a 2925m harness amateurs Class F here last Friday. Is being aimed a bit high though and others easier to support
- KIMBO BERRY – Last of 11 on return to competition in a 2925m harness Class C here on 21 December. Starts on back row and seems to need another run
- HIRO DE L’ORMERIE – Makes Cagnes debut after being sanctioned in a 2650m Bordeaux Class C a fortnight ago. Has done nothing noteworthy for some time and is not about to break the mould
- IVANA DE BERTRANGE – Switches back to the ridden code after finishing 9th of 12 in a 2150m harness Class D here on 21 December. In the frame in 3 of last 4 under the saddle and adores Cagnes. One to note
- JUS DE FRUIT – Courageous 6th in Gr.1 Prix Bilibili before finishing 5th of 8 (despite hanging) in a 2850m Vincennes Class D on New Year’s day. Benjamin Rochard aboard this time and must be respected
- EXPRESS DUO – 5th of 10, at 99/1, in a 2925m Class D here on Boxing Day, however a repeat seems highly unlikely
- HUIS CLOS (SWE) – Quality element making first appearance since coming 4th of 7 in a 2850m Laval Class E late-August. Forced to break from back line but has a lot going for him here and the Eric Raffin-factor must be taken into account. Chance
Summary: Exceptional in the discipline when focused, JIROBELLO (3) has been fitted with 4 pads for his return to the code and if fully-fit, can wrap this up. Winner of 4 prior to being sanctioned here last month, JAVA D’ECAJEUL (1) has been reunited with Quentin Seguin and can set the record straight. On the back line but always generous under the saddle, a barefoot HUIS CLOS (SWE) (10) has been entrusted to Eric Raffin for the first time and will be no soft touch.

C7 – PRIX PIERRE BOCQUET – 2925m (a2m) – Class B Race – Harness – EUR € 33,000 - LORD ELLINGTON – Unplaced in 2 since the layoff, most recently 8th of 13 behind LYRIKO BELLO (4) in a 2700m Class D here late last month, and can expect to have few friends
- LOIC BARON – Back on the Riviera after having run 9th of 13 behind LOVER STILL (9) in a 2700m Vincennes Class C 3 weeks ago. Brimming with potential and has a lot going for him here. Chance
- LE METEQUE – Imposed over course and distance before coming 3rd of 13, a place behind LYRIKO BELLO (4), in a 2700m Class D here late last month. Has more to find but can still hold his own
- LYRIKO BELLO – Cagnes-loving colt that ran close 2nd of 13 in a 2700m Class D here late last month. Steps up in category though and would be preferred with 4 pads fitted
- LA MOME – 6th of 7 finishers in a 2100m Vincennes claimer on Monday. Shoes back on and backs up with limited aspiration
- LEVRETTE – Quality but spirited individual making first start since finishing last of 13, on re-entry, in a 2175m Vincennes Class B 2 months ago. Has been afforded time to get her ducks in a row and, if focused, will be no pushover
- LOUISIANE MAGNY – Sanctioned in last 2, most recently a Class A over course and distance on 21 December. Barefoot this time but must first get her house in order
- L’ASTRAGALE – 5th of 8 finishers in a Class A over track and trip on 21 December. Will be fit by now and going barefoot may be just her ticket to the winners’ enclosure
- LOVER STILL – Has hardly put a foot wrong since the summer, latterly 2nd of 13 in a 2700m Vincennes Class C 3 weeks ago. Is a class above most here and should be able to wrap this up
- LAUTREC QUICK – Respectable but unthreatening 6th of 10 in a 2700m Vincennes Class B on 12 December. Hind shoes off this time, with Benjamin Rochard in the bike, and will have his supporters
- LET ME SIXTY ONE – Caused a 42/1 surprise when 3rd of 8 finishers, on first start for 4 months, in a Class A over track and trip on 21 December. Has blotted his copybook just once here and in current form is easy to like. First 5
Summary: A fine colt that consistently gives everything he has, LOVER STILL (9) is competitively-shod for his Cagnes debut and can make this his own. Mathieu Mottier will still be keeping a keen eye on 2-times’ Cagnes winner, L’ASTRAGALE (8), who is barefoot for his first objective of the new year, and LOIC BARON (2) who sports 4 pads for the first time and gets an Eric Raffin drive for the occasion. LEVRETTE (6) comes here fresh following a disappointing autumn re-entry and even though shod, still looks competitively well-in.

- GIRLY VICTORY – One-paced 8th of 11 finishers in a 2150m Class F here late-December. Barefoot for the occasion but would still be preferred a level down
- JOCONDE TURGOT – Dependable sort that ran a good 5th of 11, a place behind JOIE DE LA COTE (6), in a Class C over course and distance on 21 December. Breaks in front and has a realistic chance of going closer this time
- BOMBER MAN – Unremarkable type that ran 6th of 13 in a 2750m Nimes Class E early last month and in this category will have few takers
- JOIE DE LA COTE – 4th of 11 in a Class C over course and distance on 21 December and will not be sent out at 78/1 this time
- IBIS DE CHAHAINS – Won over 2150m here before running 4th of 10 over track and trip 2 weeks ago. Nicely-in on front line, sports front pads for the occasion, and should not be too far from the action
- GO AWAY BIRD – Last but one in a Class D over course and distance last Friday. 25m worse off this time and can be passed over
- SCHAMPUS – Made it 2 in a row for Alessandro Gocciadoro when successful over a mile at Modena late-November. Comes here fresh and can remain unbeaten for his new handler
- JONGLEUSE DE LUNE – Generous mare that smartly won a Class C under these conditions on 28 December. Is confirmed in superior company and looks main threat to SCHAMPUS (9)
- HIGH FIRE DAIRPET – Courageous winner of a Class C over course and distance 3 weeks ago. Excels at Cagnes-sur-Mer and will not go down easily. Chance
- INGRID TURGOT – Ran a reassuring 2nd of 9 to HIGH FIRE DAIRPET (11) in a Class C over course and distance 3 weeks ago. Is not about to cause an upset but is still good enough to make first 5

- FUTUR DU CHENE – Failed to confirm Toulouse victory when 6th to HIGH FIRE DAIRPET (11) in 18 December race of reference and others easier to back
- FALCO DU DOUET – Nicely-entered here, and sports just front shoes this time, but will need to show significant improvement on his 11th of 13 in a 2700m Class C at Le Croise-Laroche late-November
Summary: Winner of the 2023 German Derby, and victorious in both starts since moving yards, SCHAMPUS (9) makes his French debut with every chance of trotting off with the silverware. That said, Mathieu Mottier can expect to encounter resistance from JONGLEUSE DE LUNE (10) who imposed over course and distance late last month, and the similarly successful HIGH FIRE DAIRPET (11) who was eye-catching here just 10 days earlier. Unbeaten in 2 starts since moving to Jo Corbanie’s stable, NEO TURBO (1) is 25m better off, will be reined by Eric Raffin, and must be taken seriously.
