French Selections Saturday 4th

R1 VINCENNES [L-H]

C1 – PRIX DE LA DORDOGNE – 2850m (a2m) – Class A – Harness – EUR € 62,000

  1. GOGGIA – Useful Italian filly that ran surprise 5th to GUARDAMI (6) 2.5 weeks ago, however a repeat seems improbable
  2. METIDJA – 3rd to MOLLY MADRIK (5) on re-entry but finished last but one to GUARDAMI (6) 2.5 weeks ago, and can expect to have few friends
  3. MARGAUX DES ARRIS – Back under harness after failing to deliver in the other code on 17 February. Shoes back on and is not a concern
  4. MAIA JIEL – Not the easiest of horses to handle but has talent in spades. Eliminated, when shod, in 21 March race of reference but will be in race-mode this time and will endeavour to bring the fight to GUARDAMI (6)
  5. MOLLY MADRIK – Won a fillies-only Class A to get the year off to a successful start. Ran 4th to GUARDAMI (6) 2.5 weeks ago and although untried over 2850m here, is still easy to like
  6. GUARDAMI – Classy filly that has come into herself since moving to France. Improves with every run and will not be easy to oppose
  7. MIRA DE FROULAY – Made up for Gr.2 Prix Ephrem Houel blip when 3rd in 2700m Gr.3 Prix Franck Anne on 28 February, behind 2 colts. Just her own sex to contend with this time and Paul Ploquin can be quietly confident of another big run
  8. MOSTRA DE BANVILLE – Kicked the year off victoriously and recently held her own in Prix Franck Anne. Is not about to impose but can still make first 5
  9. MASINA DE TILLARD – Serious mare that has shown more in the other code, but is not devoid of harness aptitude and will have her supporters
  10. MAYA DU SURF – Unlucky in both starts this term. Eric Raffin drafted in for the occasion and can figure prominently if kept out of harm’s way
Summary: Undefeated in 3 starts, 2 over course and distance, since moving to Mathieu Mottier’s yard, GUARDAMI (6) was most convincing here a fortnight ago and is going to take all the beating. MAIA JIEL (4) may not be quite as reliable but she got a decent workout that day, goes unshod-behind this time and, on good behaviour, can compete for one of the 2 steps left on the podium. Nicely-entered here, MAYA DU SURF (10) ran into traffic problems in the Gr.3 Prix Franck Anne but Eric Raffin gets the nod. Third that day, at 90-1, MIRA DE FROULAY (7) must be taken more seriously.
    SELECTIONS
    GUARDAMI (6) – MAIA JIEL (4) – MAYA DU SURF (10) – MIRA DE FROULAY (7)
    C2 – PRIX DU GERS – 2850m (a2m) – Class A – Harness – EUR € 62,000
  11. GO BIG EFFE – Left a good impression on re-entry but failed to confirm in mid-February, and would be preferred a level down
  12. GHOSTRIDER FONT – Opened his Vincennes account at 2nd time of asking, winning a Class D in mid-February. Pitted against considerably better horses this time and chances appear slim
  13. GOELICHER ST – Showed a better side of himself when 3rd in a 2100m Class C here in late-February, but is clearly out of his league this time
  14. MUSIKO CAUVELLIERE – No slouch on a good day but has yet to come good this term. Won a Gr.3 last November on sole start under these conditions, and is not incapable of playing a small part
  15. MARQUETY DE BAILLY – Ended 2025 on a good note but has been unable to confirm on 3 subsequent occasions. Will be first-time barefoot but others still preferred
  16. MIRAKALU MANAZIF – Fine servant with nothing to prove at this level. Has just one run under his belt, is new to 2850m, but is well-placed in front and Matheiu Mottier will be keen to deliver
  17. MISTRAL DU BOIS – Denied a run when clearly competitive in Gr.3 Prix Franck Anne in late-February. Has had ample time to get back in shape and, if kept out of trouble, can finish close
  18. MOUFFETARD – Quality colt that was quickly eliminated in 28 February race of reference. Drops marginally in category and, even though drawn wide, still looks competitively well in
  19. MUST ATOUT – 3rd in Prix d’Orthez over course and distance before being denied a run, finishing 10th, in Gr.3 Prix Franck Anne. Is plainly in fine condition, reverts to another formula, and with more luck in running, can put things right
  20. MAESTRO RIVER – Showed significant early promise but has struggled to make his mark since last autumn, and is unlikely to start now
  21. MENTOR DE PLAY – Has enjoyed a change in fortune since the turn of the year, winning 3 for 3, most recently with consummate ease here 2 weeks ago. Is confirmed over 2850m here and looks set to continue his victorious ways
  22. MAKE YOUR DAY – Serious future prospect that was another casualty of traffic problems in Gr.3 Prix Franck Anne in late-February. Is quite clearly in fine fettle and, if given the chance, can trot his way into the picture
  23. MAGICO DE LOU – Kicked the year off superbly with Gr.3 victory over track and trip, but less performant in next 2 and looks no more than a minor place chance
Summary: Like a horse reborn since starting to race barefoot, MENTOR DE PLAY (11) goes without shoes for the first time over 2850m and will be well-backed to make it 4 in a row. Leading the opposition, MISTRAL DU BOIS (7) has already won for Eric Raffin, and can be considered unlucky for finishing 7th in the Gr.3 Prix Franck Anne, while the classy MAKE YOUR DAY (12) is due a reversal of fortune any day soon. MUST ATOUT (9) held his own in the Gr.3 Prix d’Orthez but was never afforded a run in the Prix Franck Anne, however he will be expected to bounce back and finish close.
    SELECTIONS
MENTOR DE PLAY (11) – MISTRAL DU BOIS (7) – MAKE YOUR DAY (12) – MUST ATOUT (9)
    C3 – PRIX DE SAINTES – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Class D – Harness – EUR € 46,000
  24. LADY DUCALE – Won 2 on the trot before coming 4th in a Caen Class E on 9 March. Takes on a better lot this time and is unlikely to influence the outcome
  25. LA KIFFANCE PIYA – Fine servant with a pair of fresheners under her belt since the well-earned break. Is shod to preference for first real objective of the season and has the wherewithal to win this
  26. LATINA TOURNIBOIS – Generous mare that ran 3rd on re-entry at Mons 2.5 weeks ago, but is clearly being aimed too high this time
  27. LADY OF DURBUY – Reunited with Matthieu Abrivard after prepping victoriously at home in Belgium. Has nothing to prove over the Vincennes main track and should prove competitive for a place on the podium
  28. LUTECE D’ELA – Given a break after winning a Mauquenchy Class E on 12 January. Is competitively-shod, with David Thomain reining, but still no more than a minor place prospect
  29. LA SCUPICCIA – Has demonstrated fine versatility and has never disappointed when barefoot. Is possibly preparing for a campaign under the saddle, but still represents a contender
  30. LADY DE VANDEL – Capable on a good day but has yet to impress this term and with shoes fitted will have nothing to contribute
  31. LAISSEZ FAIRE – Good class of mare that showed at Caen that a return to the winners’ circle is imminent. Has been on an upward trend since last summer and can wrap this up if her driver keeps her out of trouble
  32. LINOTTE DU MOUCHEL – Got back in the game at Amiens a month back when runner-up in a 2400m Class D. Is not about to spring a surprise but should nevertheless hold her own
  33. LA STAR DES ISLES – Has not been seen out since 13 January. Is not short of ability and although better at a marginally lower category, can still make first 5 here
Summary: Denied a run at Caen a month back when plainly capable of imposing, LAISSEZ FAIRE (8) is quite obviously at the top of her game and Giuseppe Porzio will be mindful to set the record straight. That being said, LA KIFFANCE PIYA (2) is hard to fault in the day’s shoeing and has a pair of conditioners under her belt. LADY OF DURBUY (4) has been reconfigured for her return to France and her Mons win bodes well for her chances. As good in one discipline as the other, Matheiu Mottier’s LA SCUPICCIA (6) faces her first objective of the spring and will be barefoot for the occasion.
    SELECTIONS
    LAISSEZ FAIRE (8) – LA KIFFANCE PIYA (2) – LADY OF DURBUY (4) – LA SCUPICCIA (6)
    C4 – PRIX KERJACQUES – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Gr2 – Harness – EUR € 120,000
  34. KSAR – Showed a return to form in February before being quickly eliminated in Gr.3 Prix du Bois de Vincennes 2 weeks ago. Is pitted against some classier individuals this time and is unlikely to upset the status quo
  35. JAZZMAN DEBAILLEUL – Previously a fine trotter but lost his way over the winter and will first need to re-establish his credentials
  36. COBRA KILLER GAR – Consistently-performant type that ran 3rd to INO DU LUPIN (8) in Gr.3 Prix du Bois de Vincennes 2 weeks ago. Takes on a more exalted lot this time but should nevertheless hold his own
  37. EROS ZOLA – Fine campaigner in both disciplines but has not raced since January and will be shod for comeback
  38. HULYSSE DIGEO – Has not won since securing a Gr.2 at La Capelle in September but has been giving a good account of himself recently. Would have finished closer in the Prix du Bois de Vincennes had he not faulted and, reconfigured, can begin to redeem himself
  39. HANNIBAL TUILERIE – Defied his odds of 60-1 to finish 5th to INO DU LUPIN (8) in Gr.3 Prix du Bois de Vincennes 2 weeks ago. Did not enjoy the best of trips that day but still looks an outsider
  40. IROISE DE LA NOE – Unopposed winner of the Gr.1 Prix de France. Returns to a distance she appreciates and, with application, can get in on the action
  41. INO DU LUPIN – Made short work of the Gr.3 Prix du Bois de Vincennes 2 weeks ago, boasts a remarkable record under these conditions, and is easy to like for a place in the frame
  42. JOSH POWER – 2nd in the Amérique prior to being eliminated in the Prix de France when competitive for a cheque. Ran 2nd in a Mons Gr.1 last September on sole start in the day’s configuration, and cannot be ruled out
  43. INEXESS BLEU – Classy individual with good speed. Is in race-mode following his recent comeback, excels under these conditions, and can wrap this up
  44. HOKKAIDO JIEL – Was well-beaten by IROISE DE LA NOE (7) in the Prix de France, but would have finished 5th in the Gr.1 Critérium de Vitesse at Cagnes had he not been eliminated. Returns to the conditions of his last triumph and is not to be overlooked
  45. HOOKER BERRY – Ran 9th in Prix d’Amérique before coming 5th in the Prix de Paris. Is unlikely to spring any surprises but should hold his own all the same
  46. IDAO DE TILLARD – Richest horse in the race for good reason. Has just the one run in him since October, but has been reconfigured and will be expected to prove the main threat to INEXESS BLEU (10)
Summary: Simply remarkable over the past couple of years, INEXESS BLEU (10) has raced little since his 2021 debut but, when barefoot, runs to win . After a much-needed freshener 2 weeks ago, he faces his first goal of the year and it must be said that, on this occasion, he looks a better choice than dual Prix d’Amerique winner IDAO DE TILLARD (13) who has form in the day’s configuration. INO DU LUPIN (8) comfortably beat a half-dozen of these horses in the Gr.3 Prix du Bois de Vincennes a fortnight back and should again figure prominently. Unraced since dominating the Gr.1 Prix de France in early-February, IROISE DE LA NOE (7) will nevertheless be shod as she was when winning the Gr.2 Prix de Belgique, and is unlikely to let the side down. HOKKAIDO JIEL (11) has failed to deliver since his Amerique victory but a return to 2700m may be just what the doctor ordered.
    SELECTIONS
INEXESS BLEU (10) – IDAO DE TILLARD (13) – INO DU LUPIN (8) – IROISE DE LA NOE (7)
    C5 – PRIX CORNELIA – 2850m (a2m) – Gr3 – Mounted – EUR € 90,000
  47. INDIGO DU PORET – Back to winning ways after a lengthy hiatus, flying up in a 2875m Class B across town 2.5 weeks ago. Goes barefoot again and is not about to let the side down. Place chance
  48. HANNAH – Surprise 2nd in a 2700m Class A here on 22 February. Eric Raffin keeps the faith but a repeat seems unlikely
  49. JE REVE DU BOIS – Serious dual-discipline trotter switching codes after running 2nd to the good Karambar in a harness Class B here a fortnight back. Presents excellent monte credentials and can impose
  50. HEURISTIQUE – Tenacious winner of a Class B over course and distance on 7 February, beating JE REVE DU BOIS (3) in the process, and her recent Gr.1 performance will stand her in good stead. Chance
  51. HEDEN CRUZ – Honest type that ran 3rd, a place behind HANNAH (2), in a Class A over course and distance on 22 February. Is unlikely to win this but can nevertheless finish in the mix
  52. GRINDELWALD – Failed to make the grade when 6th behind HANNAH (2) in 22 February race of reference, and will need to raise her game
  53. HARMONISTA – Showed improvement on Cornulier performance when 5th behind HANNAH (2) in a Class A over course and distance on 22 February, but still has a lot of ground to make up
  54. HALICIA BELLA – Mixes the good with the less good but will need to improve on latest effort behind HANNAH (2)
  55. HYMNE DU GERS – 3rd in a Gr.3 over 2175m here in mid-February, then ran 2nd in a harness Gr.3 a fortnight later. Alexandre Abrivard back in the saddle and should not be underestimated
  56. J’AIME LE FOOT – Considerably better under the saddle than recent harness form would suggest. Has already won a Gr.2 with Paul Ploquin and will be justifiably well-supported
  57. GRANIT MESLOIS – Handy trotter but has just the one race in him following a lengthy absence and is unlikely to spice things up
Summary: At home in either code, JE REVE DU BOIS (3) put in quite the performance under harness here 2 weeks ago, presents fine credentials under these conditions, and can expect a significant percentage of support. HEURISTIQUE (4) beat him here in February and, unlucky in the Gr.1 Prix Henri Desmontils, will be expected to put things right. A Gr.2 winner last time under the saddle, J’AIME LE FOOT (10) has not been firing in the harness code but a change of discipline may be just the ticket. INDIGO DU PORET (1) was a most impressive winner of an Enghien Class B on his recent comeback and with his trainer aboard this time, will be no soft touch.
    SELECTIONS
    JE REVE DU BOIS (3) – HEURISTIQUE (4) – J’AIME LE FOOT (10) – INDIGO DU PORET (1)
    C6 – PRIX D’AUBUSSON – 2100m (a1m1/4) – Class C – Harness – EUR € 68,000
  58. FREEDOM (NOR) – Wonderfully consistent sort that ran 3rd, a place behind GOLD D’ECROVILLE (9), in a 2700m Class C here on 28 February. Olivier Raffin could not have wished for a better entry and younger brother Eric will be eager to deliver
  59. JOJO TOONS – Was eliminated on re-entry here in late-February but reassured at Laval when easily securing a Class D a month ago. Has been handed a decent number and will be reunited with David Thomain who excels with him. First 5
  60. KAVIARISSIME – Has bags of talent but has struggled of late. Cannot be considered a priority but it is just a matter of time before he comes good again
  61. HAUTE COTE DE NUIT – Quality campaigner with nothing to prove under these conditions, but has not been seen out for 12 months and will not be given a hard race
  62. INDIEN DE FONTAINE – Serious for the most part, and has placed under these conditions, but has just the one run in him since the layoff and others easier to back
  63. JOCONDE SIBEY – No slouch on a good day but has had none of those this year and can be passed over
  64. JOLIVERT DU GERS – Returns to Paris after a couple of solid performances in the south of the country. Starts in front and is unlikely to let the side down. Place chance
  65. HALO AM – Courageous, but ultimately eliminated in 28 February race of reference. Has a particular liking for these conditions however and will be no pushover
  66. GOLD D’ECROVILLE – Seldom gets his nose in front but has acquitted himself honourably this year. Eliminated here late last month but nevertheless faces a much tougher task this time around
  67. L.A.BOKO – Gave a fine account of himself when being prepped at Pontchateau early last month. Will be shod to preference this time and cannot be dismissed
  68. SCHAMPUS – Quality element that placed in a Class C last time here. Has not been seen out since October but will have work behind him, and the Gabriele Gelormini-factor will do his prospects no disservice
  69. JOS MAZA – Useful trotter but tends to prefer a more even surface. Has little going for him here and can be passed over
  70. JUST A LADY (DEN) – Serious mare making first appearance since 3 January and with shoes fitted is not about to create an upset
  71. DIVA DEL RONCO – Put in quite the showing here a fortnight ago despite having blundered early. Is plainly better than most here and can have her way if Francois Lagadeuc successfully navigates the start
  72. DIABEL – Was unable to confirm fine early-February Class B performance when faulting at the start of a 2700m Class C here late that month. Alexandre Abrivard in the bike this time and should finish close if he assures her initial strides
  73. MATEO DI QUATTRO – Enjoyed a productive 2025 until coming off the boil last October. Encouraged here on penultimate start but others still preferred
Summary: Although somewhat out of sorts here a fortnight ago, DIVA DEL RONCO (14) has otherwise been in excellent shape and even though having pulled a rough number, still looks a serious proposition. She will, however, be opposed by DIABEL (15) whose recent run should not be taken at face value, and FREEDOM (NOR) (1) who missed out on his hat-trick when 3rd that day. Commanding winner of a Cagnes Class D last month, JOLIVERT DU GERS (7) went on to run 4th in a Gr.3 10 days ago, and is very easy to recommend.
    SELECTIONS

    C7 – PRIX DE BAPAUME – 2100m (a1m1/4) – Class C – Harness – EUR € 53,000
  74. KELLE HAUFOR – Faces first test of the season after making her comeback at Enghien on 10 March. Is a tough nut when barefoot but, in this company, may find the going tough
  75. LATIKA BELLA – Has been excelling over recent months and is dynamic when barefoot. Is reunited with Eric Raffin and, even in this category, looks a major player
  76. KANELLE STAR – Undeniably capable but has failed to make any impact in last 2, and even though sporting a fresh configuration, still looks to be out of her depth
  77. KOSY D’ERONVILLE – Has turned a corner over past weeks, latterly 2nd in a Class D over course and distance a fortnight ago. Benefits from a terrific draw and Alexis Collette will be eager to make hay
  78. LAMIE DU MESNIL – Solid in 2 starts over course and distance earlier in the year before finishing unplaced over 2700m mid-February. Handed a good draw but is being aimed too high
  79. LUMINOUS STAR – Showed improvement in a Caen Class B on 9 March. Starts on the front row here but appears to be taking on too much
  80. LA DIVA SUPREME – Has no shortage of talent but has been eliminated in all 3 starts this term and even with Mathieu Mottier reining is hard to recommend
  81. LINNA DE VANDEL – Secured Class D victory at Caen on 19 March. Takes on a better bunch this time, but will be barefoot, and did win both course-and-distant starts last season
  82. ELTYME – Got back in the game late last month when 3rd in a 2850m Class C here. Breaks wide but will not be available at 46-1 this time
  83. ESTEREL GI – Gave a reassuringly good account at Cagnes early last month. Imposed over track and trip last spring and can pick up another cheque if Andrea Guzzinati successfully negotiates the start
  84. LIZY JOSSELYN – Moderate mare making first appearance since last September and will have nothing to offer
  85. NICE STEEL – Returns to a distance over which she has nothing to prove. Has been entrusted to Franck Ouvrie this time and has the wherewithal to win a race of this nature
  86. FAHARAJAH ONE – Made amends for February elimination here when dominating an Enghien Class D last month. Forced to break from 2nd line but still represents a leading contender
  87. ELEGANZA AV – Occasionally shows her good side but out of the picture in both starts this term and can be dismissed
  88. RAGAZZA DU CHENE – Unlucky not to have finished closer than 5th, behind ELTYME (9), in a 2850m Class C here 8 days ago. Is plainly in rude health and can finish close if Paul Ploquin keeps her out of trouble
  89. LADY BIRD JENILAT – Sprang a minor surprise when victorious in an Enghien Class D 2.5 weeks ago, but has been allocated a tough number and is not about to repeat
Summary: A fine Swedish raider, NICE STEEL (12) has taken particularly well to Vincennes conditions and even from the back line will have her chances. Franck Ouvrie can still expect to meet opposition from good Italian mare, FAHARAJAH ONE (13), who ran out a convincing winner across town early last month, and the poorly-drawn RAGAZZA DU CHENE (15) who nonetheless caught the eye here just 8 days ago. Better-positioned behind the car, and very hard to fault when barefoot, LATIKA BELLA (2) returns from her spell with a realistic chance of making the frame.
    SELECTIONS

    C8 – PRIX DE LOUDEAC – 2100m (a1m1/4) – Class C – Harness – EUR € 53,000
  90. L’AMIRAL GAGNANT – Has ample ability but has not been seen out since November and will not be over-extended
  91. LOVEBIRD – Was going well in a competitive Caen Class B before losing his action in the straight. On better behaviour though, can play a prominent role
  92. EK DEL RONCO – Won 4 on the trot in Italy before being quickly eliminated in a Cagnes Class D on 25 February. Is not a priority but has been entrusted to Matthieu Abrivard and the draw will do his chances no harm
  93. UNDERGROUND ARTIST – Completely out of the picture in all 3 starts this term and can be confidently ruled out
  94. LIQUIDATEUR – Ran 3rd over 2700m here before being eliminated under shocking conditions at Enghien next time. Is clearly in excellent shape and, with application, can impose
  95. PURE STEEL – Useful nordic element that ran 2nd in a Class C here 8 days ago. Paul Ploquin in the bike this time and will not be far from the action if he keeps his charge trotting
  96. KOOL DU CHATELET – Respectable but unthreatening 4th in a Class D over track and trip a fortnight ago. In better company this time but cannot be entirely ruled out
  97. LEZZO FIGHTER – Missed out by little over 2850m here prior to making short work of a Bordeaux Class C on 19 February. Starts on front line and can bring home the bacon this time
  98. FLY TOP – Most unfortunate in a Class B over course and distance on 17 February. Is not ideally-drawn but enjoys a terrific entry, and could well make a big splash this time
  99. LE METEQUE – Starts for the first time since blowing up at Lyon-La Soie on 19 January. Goes barefoot for re-entry but still not a concern
  100. ELAND – No champion but always gives what he can. Was not disgraced here in late-February and has a reasonable chance of playing an active role
  101. TAURUS CROWN – Useful at home in Sweden but has not done enough in France to warrant much attention at this level and can be passed over
  102. ECLISSI DI RE DR – Makes French debut after having pleased for the most part this year. Sports front pads for the first time and will need to defy the draw. No threat
  103. ERES DORIAL MAIL – Has looked very ordinary in both starts this year. Has yet to deliver under these conditions and is not about to start now
  104. LIONEL MEARAS – Serious trotter that should not be hastily-condemned for losing his action at Caen last month. Is clearly in excellent condition and, with stride in check, will be no pushover
  105. LODESTAR – Useful type that was put away after faulting here in early-January. Sports pads for re-entry, and has pulled a tough number, but seldom disappoints when focused and must be taken seriously
Summary: Beaten just once in the day’s configuration, LEZZO FIGHTER (8) returns to the capital after having romped in Bordeaux and, reconfigured for the occasion, can repeat. Better-placed behind the car, LIQUIDATEUR (5) could well have won at Enghien last time had he not lost his action, and Alexandre Abrivard will be determined to prove the point. Clearly at the top of his game, FLY TOP (9) was very unlucky last time out and Eric Raffin has been charged with setting the record straight. LIONEL MEARAS (15) has not won the draw-stakes but he left a good impression here in February and, if applied, can finish close.

    C9 – PRIX DE DORCEAU – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Class B – Mounted – EUR € 52,000
  106. MAYA GERBEHAYE – Back under the saddle after failing to fire in the other code. Has previously won under these conditions but she appears to be taking on too much this time
  107. MANIGOD – Capable gelding with form over course and distance but is biting off more than he can chew
  108. MAMZELL L’AVENTURE – Lost her action in a 2850m Gr.2 here in early-February. Is undeniably useful under the saddle but would have better prospects a category down
  109. MUSCADE LEMAN – Modest filly racing under the saddle for just the 2nd time and, in current condition, is unlikely to generate much interest
  110. MACAREUX DU TRIEUX – Got off the monte mark in good order in early-February. Has been kept on the boil under harness and returns to the discipline with every chance of contesting the finish
  111. MONTANA WOOD – Has not achieved as much as some others here but is arguably the best horse in the field. He will have been prepared for this and, with application, can kick 2026 off successfully
  112. MIRATISSIME – Has not raced since late-January when last but one, a place behind MAGNOLIADARCHE (10), in a Gr.3 under these conditions, and is unlikely to set off any fireworks
  113. MADAME CHENU – Moves back to a more reasonable level after finishing last in a 2850m Gr.2 here in early-February, but still has a lot to find
  114. MALICE CAILLERIE – Starts for the first time since being eliminated in Gr.3 Prix Urgent last November. Has a lot going for her here and should not be far off the mark if Eric Raffin manages to keep her focused
  115. MAGNOLIADARCHE – Has struggled so far this year to replicate last spring’s form, but does drop back down the category-ladder and should be good enough to make first 5
  116. MESSI PASS – Just recently returned following a lengthy absence. Will have come on for the race, is barefoot for the first time, with Paul Ploquin in the irons, and looks the principal danger to MONTANA WOOD (6)
  117. MARQUISE DE MAGNY – Ran 2nd over course and distance on her sole start in the code, and has also won a harness Class A under these conditions. Faces other unshod elements but still looks capable of picking up a cheque
Summary: Even though eliminated more often than not, MONTANA WOOD (6) has shown significant potential. He gets to race barefoot for the first time, on his return from a break, and if applied can get straight back down to business. Mathieu Mottier would still be wise to be wary of Gr.2-placed MESSI PASS (11) who has also been relieved of his shoes, and a reconfigured MACAREUX DU TRIEUX (5) who has taken particularly well to his new vocation. MALICE CAILLERIE (9) is not the easiest of horses to use but she has already beaten the boys at Gr.3 level here, sports a fresh configuration, and will be partnered with Eric Raffin for the occasion.

C1 – PRIX JEAN PROUVE – 3800m (a2m1/2) – TURF – Class 4 – Hurdles – EUR € 21,000

  1. KARTHAGE – Not disgraced when fifth in a Group 2 hurdle at Auteuil over 3900m on 23 March 2025. Returns from a lengthy break but can score if fit enough
  2. SAINT TURGEON – Unreliable and was unplaced in a class 3 Conditions hurdle at Pau over 3500m on 14 January. Capable of doing better and is not out of it

  4. LAZULITE – Never in the hunt 13th in a Handicap over 2150m at Cagnes on 4 February. Recent form does not excite but she has been supplemented into the race and runs off a low rating.

  7. LIGHTED GLORY – Well beaten when 4th in a Handicap over 2000m at Lyon Parilly on 29 March. She did run 2nd behind LA CRACK PRECIEUSE (5) in her penultimate start and stands out as the main threat

  10. FEEDESREVES – A well beaten 13th in a Handicap over 2700m at Chantilly on 25 February. Does not have the form to trouble these runners.
  11. RED SUGAR – Finished 3rd in a Handicap over this course and distance on 20 March. That was behind the two other selections and was a good run returning to Flat racing after two Hurdle events
  12. PRINCEDESCHAMPS – Well beaten when 14th in a Handicap over 1900m at Chantilly on 30 March. Not the most consistent of runners but does have good form at this course, although over shorter

  14. GRAND YAKA – Finished 6th in a Handicap over 2500m at this track on 20 March. Held by a number of others on that run and could place at best
Summary: LA CRACK PRECIEUSE (5) sets the standard after winning a good race over this course and distance last time. She has received a 2kg penalty for the win which should see those who ran behind her last time finishing a lot closer. Best of the rest could be LIGHTED GLORY (7) who was second that day and it should be very close between them at the weights. RED SUGAR (11) ran third in that event while supplementary entry DREAM IN NORMANDY (1) could threaten.

Summary: BOSIOH (1) is the highest rated runner by some way and is still competitive. He is distance suited and stands out as the runner to beat. The main threat is likely to come from HANDHY (8), who was claimed last time but runs for the same yard. He looks well weighted in this field. JOEY UP (2) is probably better than his last run and he does run well at this course. The drop in class and the rise in distance should work well for WOLKE SIEBEN (7).
