Dedicated Hero kl – 4.55
attempts to defy a course and distance penalty, incurred twelve weeks ago, in an intriguing ten-runner ‘Bumper’ Final over two miles of ‘good’ ground at Kelso today; this magnificent ‘Borders’ circuit has been watered and yet at the same time we learn Newton Abbot will only be staged if its executive is satisfied so much rain hasn’t caused waterlogging!
Quite unbelievable but fact; following colossal sustained rainfall throughout winter a ‘clerk’ has decided, in his infinite wisdom, natural time of year surface will be too fast; we’re up against this obviously yet again but providing Dedicated Hero can indeed act on going, which was ‘heavy’ last time, Sandy Thomson’s charge will be difficult to beat under the same Grand National-winning jockey, Ryan Mania.
Dan Skelton runs consistent hitherto luckless Disco Davis and his brother Harry replaces a ‘conditional’, aboard when the five-year-old finished a respectable fifth (of 12) at Doncaster back in January. A recent third under the one-time ‘Champion’ around Ludlow puts this one firmly ‘on the premises along with Battle Born Lad, eye-catching in both races and strongly-fancied.
Based on my unique computation/analysis of this-type race however, which has become a specialised area, Dedicated Hero has a few pounds in hand, is the type to progress further and so, each-way, is worth backing.
Punting from ‘out of the box’ makes good sense, few can decipher NH Flat Races and in a sense we have ‘the field’ to ourselves; results from good-priced selections are proof positive we’re on the right tracks!
The Mania/Thomson combination will doubtless be represented favourably in the 14-runner Novices’ Hurdle over an extended two and a half miles with Tigga Time but this also looks well within capabilities of Susan Corbett-trained
Pinot Rouge kl – 2.10
rated a staggering 127; unopposable, how many triers wil there be?
Chester’s May meeting gets under way on a ‘good to soft’ surface which shouldn’t be a problem for consistent
Castle In The Sand cs – 4.10
a TH ‘special’ in the Maiden Stakes over ten furlongs under Oisin Murphy; none better!
