French Selections Friday 20th

R1 VINCENNES [L-H]
C1 – PRIX CLEOMEDE – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 59,000

1. INVICTUS DE HOERDT – Scored his 3rd success of the summer when tenaciously staying on to win a 2150m Mauquenchy Class E last week but is being asked to do too much this time

2. ILLICO DES BAUX – 9th of 13 in a 2700m Class D at La Capelle earlier in the month and is properly out of his depth

3. ICONE D’AVENIR – Sanctioned, on return to competition, in a 2150m Mauquenchy Class E late-July. Tricky sort but has twice won over course and distance, comes here fresh and barefoot, and will have her supporters

4. ISOFOU DU CHENE – Fine 2nd of 13 in a 2850m Class B on re-entry here on 21 August. Completed a hat-trick of victories here during the winter and can return to successful ways on his first objective of the new season

5. IVOIRE PRESTANCE – Surprise 4th in 6 September race of reference. Has merit but on this occasion appears to have too much to do

6. GAROU DU CHENE – Respectable but unthreatening 5th of 15 in a 2100m Class E here 3 weeks ago but, in this category, will need to find considerably more

7. IRIS FROM – Winner at Saint-Jean-de-Monts before coming close 2nd of 11 in a 2475m Royan Class E on 25 August. Excels for Alexandre Abrivard and will justifiably garner significant support

8. IGUANE DE CAPONET – Unlucky 3rd of 9, a place behind IACYNTHE DIDJEAP (10), in a 2850m Class D here 2 weeks ago, but can more than make amends if Yoann Lebourgeois keeps him out of trouble

9. INTOUCHABLE – 5th of 9, behind IACYNTHE DIDJEAP (10), in a 2850m Class D here 2 weeks ago. Races barefoot for the occasion but has not lived up to his name for over a year

10. IACYNTHE DIDJEAP – Good 2nd of 9 in a 2850m Class D here a fortnight ago. Can prove a handful but has otherwise been on a good run of form and is not going to be far off the mark

11. IMPERATOR D’ELA – Completed the hat-trick before being headed in a competitive 2775m Craon Gr.3 2.5 weeks ago. Has nothing to prove under these conditions, enjoys a fine entry, and can bring home the bacon

12. IRON JET – 7th behind IMPERATOR D’ELA (11) in a 2775m Craon Gr.3 2.5 weeks ago. Raced better that day than the result would suggest and drops back in category with a decent chance of making first 5

Summary: A force to be reckoned with when barefoot and focused, IMPERATOR D’ELA (11) missed out by little on a 4-timer in a turf Gr.3 recently and, winner under these conditions last time here, looks the pick of the field. Anthony Barrier will still have concerns about the barefoot ISOFOU DU CHENE (4) who made an excellent comeback here a month ago, and IGUANE DE CAPONET (8) who was not the luckiest here earlier in the month. As solid as a rock since returning from her break, IRIS FROM (7) excels in the day’s configuration and is not going to be far from the action.

SELECTIONS

C2 – PRIX EUCHARIS – 2175m (a1m1/4) – Class C Race – Harness – EUR € 46,000

1. EMY STECCA – Sanctioned in a monté Class C over course and distance 3 weeks ago. Has done little of note since coming to France and will have few takers

2. ERMES EFFESSE – Back under harness after finishing last of 7 in a monté Class C over track and trip late-August and, even racing barefoot, has no possible chance

3. ERES DORIAL MAIL – Takes his first steps north of the Alps after running 2nd of 4 finishers over 2060m in Turin earlier this month. Sports front pads for the first time and, although not a contender, is still worth keeping an eye on

4. TROGIR – Quality German type that lost his action in 2640m Gr.1 Swedish Derby at  Jägersro on 1 September. Stays shod for his French debut but still warrants respect

5. EMPIRE AS – Has not been seen out since trotting 2nd of 13 in a 2850m Class D here 3.5 months ago but will have been specifically prepared for this and should take all the beating

6. NOAH NEWPORT – Returns to Paris after coming 5th of 10 in 1900m German Derby a month ago. Barefoot for first time at Vincennes but others still easier to back

7. KHALEESI D’ALESA – 2nd at Cherbourg before faulting in a 2100m Class D here a week ago. Showed her form that day but appears to be biting off more than she can chew this time

8. KAIROS DE BOMO – Sanctioned early on return to competition 10 days ago, but is a colt with ample ability and can play a leading role if Charley Heslouin keeps him trotting

9. KULTA – Made it 2 wins on the trot when securing a 2700m Class D here a fortnight ago, her 2nd straight success with Franck Nivard reining, and must be taken more seriously

10. EVERY TIME WINNER – Returns to Paris after winning a brace at home in Milan, latterly over a mile. Appreciates Vincennes conditions and is not to be underestimated

11. KAKO GASCOGNE – Steps back up the class-ladder after winning a 2100m claimer here, with room to spare, late last month. Makes first start for new yard, with Benjamin Rochard reining, and is unlikely to be far from the action

Summary: Jean-Michel Bazire has taken over the training of EMPIRE AS (5) after he ran a big race on his Vincennes debut in early-June and, even though unseen since, he goes barefoot for the occasion and can get straight down to business. Leading the opposition is KAIROS DE BOMO (8) who sports a new configuration following his much-need comeback run, and the Italian EVERY TIME WINNER (10) who returns on a hat-trick to a track he likes. Back at the top of his game, KULTA (9) similarly vies for the 3-timer and will not be sent out at 22/1 this time around.

SELECTIONS
EMPIRE AS (5) – KAIROS DE BOMO (8) – EVERY TIME WINNER (10) – KULTA (9)
C3 – PRIX EROS – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 40,000

1. KRYSTEL SEVEN – Makes first appearance since faulting in a monté Class C over course and distance last January. Shoes on and no danger

2. KRONA VIKING – Useful sort that finished 4th of 11 in a 2050m Cabourg Class D on 23 August. Takes on better here but has hind shoes off for first time and should not be entirely written off

3. KOUMBA MESLOISE – Imposed at Argentan before being sanctioned in a 2750m Cabourg Class E mid-August. Races shod this time and will have other priorities

4. KUNZITE D’EM – Sanctioned, when unsupported, in a 2700m Class D at La Capelle 3.5 weeks ago. Has been out of sorts all year and can be passed over

5. KISMIE DE MONTFORT – Pleased under harness at Cabourg before coming 2nd of 12 in a 2200m monté Class E here a fortnight ago, but chances still limited

6. KEY TO THE HIGHWAY – 3rd of 11 in a Class E over course and distance 3 weeks ago. Is plainly close to her race and has every chance of imposing

7. KINOU DAB – 7th of 9, on 2nd start back, in a Class D over course and distance 2 weeks ago. Champion driver at the helm this time and is in with a realistic shout

8. KATARINA DE LOU – Difficult filly that encouraged somewhat at Vire earlier in then month, coming 5th of 13 in a 2800m Class E. Entrusted to Franck Nivard for first time but represents little more than a minor place chance

9. KARVINA D’ELA – Missed out by little for the hat-trick late-July, when 2nd of 10 in a 2650m Saint-Galmier Class E. Won in this configuration at Amiens and with Gabi Gelormini reining this time, can play a leading role

10. KALISCA DE LA LEUE – Back at the top of her game after a difficult start to the year, most recently winning a 2725m Pornichet Class E late last month. Has never disappointed for Anthony Barrier and is unlikely to start now. First 5

11. KAHINA DE LATZ – Has shown improvement since changing configuration, latterly 5th of 9 in a 2050m Cabourg Class D on 23 August, but can nonetheless expect to have her work cut out

12. KAMA D’EM – In the frame in last 2, most recently 2nd of 11 in a 2100m Class E here a fortnight ago, and with with Yoann Lebourgeois back in the bike, will be no pushover

13. KARA DE PIERREPONT – Sanctioned in last 2, most recently a 2100m Class D here late last month. Has no love for the main track and, even fitted with a fresh formula, will have little to contribute

14. KALIFA MESLOISE – Lost her way earlier in the year and has picked up after the break where she left off, latterly 11th of 13 in a 2800m Vire Class E 2.5 weeks ago. Hind shoes off this time but still not easy to make a case

15. KAPELLA DRY – Made up for 3 straight sanctions with a fast-finishing 3rd of 9 in a 2950m Le Mans Class E last week. Already 3 times a winner for Paul Ploquin and can pick up another cheque if he keeps her trotting

16. KORA DE BLARY – Reassuring 5th, a place behind KAHINA DE LATZ (11), in a 2050m Cabourg Class D on 23 August. Enjoys a good entry and has a reasonable chance of getting in on the action

Summary: Much more of a professional since starting to race unshod-all-4, KEY TO THE HIGHWAY (6) would arguably have finished closer here recently with a better trip, but Alexandre Abrivard takes over and can finally get her off the mark. That being said, Eric Raffin’s services have been engaged for the useful KINOU DAB (7) who races barefoot for the first time. Excellent in all 3 starts over the summer, KARVINA D’ELA (9) sports a new configuration for her Vincennes debut and is unlikely to go down easily. Beaten only by a very good horse on her recent bow at the venue, KAMA D’EM (12) should again prove competitive for a place.

SELECTIONS
KEY TO THE HIGHWAY (6) – KINOU DAB (7) – KARVINA D’ELA (9) – KAMA D’EM (12)
C4 – PRIX ELSA – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Class C Race – Harness – EUR € 53,000

1. JETPACK – Made up for his Argentan sanction with a solid 4th to JAGUAR D’OBRET (10) in a 2100m Class D here 3.5 weeks ago. Barefoot this time but others still preferred

2. JACK SURPRISE – Waited 30 months for victory, winning at La Rochelle late-July, only for another to come around a month later, flying up in a 2700m Class D at La Capelle 3.5 weeks ago, and looks a decent first-5 chance

3. JOYEUX MESLOIS – Back under harness after faulting in a monté Class D over course and distance a fortnight ago, and has no possible chance

4. JALDO D’OCQUE – No slouch on a good day and most recently 3rd of 12 in a 2900m Arras Class E a month ago, but in this category will have limited prospects

5. JACK DES MALBERAUX – Reassuring 5th of 9 in a 3000m Châteaubriant Class D earlier this month, but did not do enough to be considered a player

6. JOLI MANNEQUIN – Quality type that took no time getting back in shape after the break, coming 2nd of 12 in a 2700m Vittel Class H conditioner mid-August. Seldom disappoints when focused here and is competitively well-in

7. JASMIN DU VALLON – Made it 3 sanctions from 4 starts this term when faulting in a 3000m Châteaubriant Class D 12 days ago. Is confirmed with Franck Nivard though and can impose if he keeps his charge trotting

8. JOKER DES CHALIERS – Quality element making first start since winning a 2100m Class C here last February. Just front pads fitted and will need the race

9. JOLIVERT DU GERS – Last of 12 in a 2750m Ecommoy Class B conditioner on 8 September. Seldom lets the side down when barefoot and focused and is not to be overlooked

10. JAGUAR D’OBRET – Like a horse reborn since returning to racing barefoot, most recently winning a 2100m Class D here 3.5 weeks ago. Eric Raffin maintains faith and for legitimate reason. Possible spoiler

11. JUPITER TURGOT – 2nd of 11 in a 2800m Class B at Le Croisé-Laroche 11 days ago. Barefoot for the occasion, with JMB drafted in to assure continuity, and must be treated with considerable respect

12. JINGLE LOVER – Solid 2nd of 15 in a 2875m Enghien Class D mid-August. Races barefoot again and Paul Ploquin can be confident of a big run. Chance

13. JAPPELOUP TURGOT – 10th of 12 when prepping for this in a 2750m Ecommoy Class B 12 days ago. Has bags of ability though, is a winner under these conditions, and must be taken seriously

14. JOKER D’OCCAGNES – Easily won a 2700m Class D at La Capelle earlier in the month. Has little Vincennes experience but has already won for Alexis Collette and is not to be underestimated

Summary: As tricky as they get and perhaps not as sharp as he was earlier in his career, JASMIN DU VALLON (7) has nevertheless been reunited with Franck Nivard and can win this if he stays in stride. Significantly more dependable and clearly enjoying a fine run of form, JINGLE LOVER (12) returns to Vincennes a live chance. Excellent at Vittel on his return from a long layoff, JOLI MANNEQUIN (6) boasts a decent record at the venue and is unlikely to disappoint. JOKER D’OCCAGNES (14) enjoys a good entry, has won 2 of his last 3, and must be afforded respect.

C5 – PRIX ARTEMIS – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Class C Race – Mounted – EUR € 46,000

1. KENTUCKY DU CAIEU – Well-regarded type racing barefoot for return to the discipline, latterly 10th of 12 in a harness Class D over course and distance 2.5 weeks ago, but is unlikely to spring a surprise

2. KELLY D’ESSARTS – Makes first appearance since coming 3rd of 11 in a 2950m Pornichet Class F on 12 July. Is barefoot for the occasion but cannot be considered a player this time around

3. KATCHINA FOR CLARA – Showed courage to dead-heat with KANDISSIME (11) in a Class D over course and distance 3.5 weeks ago. In better company this time but is plainly on the right path and must be considered a contender

4. KALINE DES RIOULTS – Returns to the ridden code on a fine run of form, coming 2nd of 9 in a 2150m Cagnes harness Class D a month ago, but in this company will have too much to do

5. KALIMERO JASMA – Has 2 runs under his belt since the break, latterly last of 14 in a 2100m Class D harness conditioner here 10 days ago. Barefoot for his monté 3-timer and looks the horse to beat

6. KALISTA JIEL – 3rd at Cabourg on monté debut before coming in a tenacious winner of a 2250m Enghien Class D on 11 August. Unlikely to shake things up this time but is still worth keeping an eye on

7. KING STALLION – Won 2 from 3 before flopping to 7th of 8 in a 2875m Enghien Class D early-August. Not the easiest to handle but won over track and trip last April and, on good behaviour, can get a look-in

8. KING TEJY – Hard to fault lately, most recently coming 2nd to KORRIGAN OLIVERIE (9) in a Class D over course and distance 3.5 weeks ago. Not a priority this time but should at least be able to hold his own

9. KORRIGAN OLIVERIE – Enjoying something of a renaissance, winning his last 2, latterly a Class D over course and distance 3.5 weeks ago, with consummate ease, and will have his chances

10. KILOVE DU GOUTIER – Scored her 3rd success of the season 11 days ago, holding on in a 2400m Class D at Beaumont-de-Lomagne. Races left-handed for just 2nd time but can play a role if she takes to the new profile

11. KANDISSIME – Back on track following 4 consecutive sanctions, most recently dead-heating with KATCHINA FOR CLARA (3) in a Class D over course and distance 3.5 weeks ago and, with application, can get in on the action

12. KENTUCKY IDEAL – Makes first start since finishing 8th of 12 in a harness Class C under these conditions 3 months ago. Is more than capable in this branch of the business though and, barefoot for the occasion, must be respected

13. KAPITAN D’HERIPRE – 4th of 6 when preparing for this in a 2925m Cagnes harness Class C on 17 August. Has a lot going for him here and looks a serious proposition first time under the saddle

Summary: A host of horses in the running here but the nod must nevertheless go to KALIMERO JASMA (5) who returns to the discipline unbeaten when barefoot. Benjamin Rochard can still expect to feel the heat from the superbly-engaged monté debutant, KAPITAN D’HERIPRE (13) who is reunited with Alexandre Abrivard for the occasion, and KORRIGAN OLIVERIE (9) who returns to the venue on a hat-trick. Since moving to Charley Mottier’s yard, KATCHINA FOR CLARA (3) has started to make good on her promise and steps up in class with a legitimate chance of confirming her latest success.

C6 – PRIX LACADEIRA – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 35,000

1. L’AVIS DU CHAILLOU – Takes a big step up in category after winning a 2500m Class F at La Chartre-sur-le-Loir a month ago, and is quite simply being asked to do too much

2. LIBERATOR PHEDO – Back under harness after coming 6th of 11 in a 2850m Laval monté Class E 2 weeks ago, and is not about to spring any surprises

3. L’ARTISTE MIL – Sanctioned in a 2550m Dieppe Class E earlier in the month. Has otherwise been in good shape and sports front pads this time, but the step up in category may be a step too far

4. LIKE MENCOURT – Won at Saint-Omer last month before coming 4th of 6, following some capricious behaviour, in a 2100m Class E here 2.5 weeks ago, but is still unlikely to improve on that

5. LATINO LA MAZURE – 6th of 7, behind L’ECLAIR DE PLAY (10), in a 2150m Mauquenchy Class E last week, and will have few friends

6. LUSANIO DE WARNOC – In the thick of things in first 5 starts before being the subject of interference in a 2150m Mauquenchy Class E 8 days ago. If kept out of trouble though, his place is in first 5

7. LORD MIL – Made short work of a 2750m Class F at La Ferté-Vidame a month ago, on first start since March. Comes to Vincennes with morale intact and will be no soft touch

8. LENNON DU VIVIER – Put a trio of sanctions behind him to win a 2900m Amiens Class E, in good order, a fortnight ago, and has every chance of repeating, provided his budding driver keeps him trotting

9. LARABELLO DE LOU – Would have won a 2650m Class E at Divonne-les-Bains a month ago had he not stumbled in the final stages. Has shown a more consistently-performant side since starting to race with front pads and is not about to disappoint

10. L’ECLAIR DE PLAY – Decent colt that put in quite the finish, despite a delayed final run, to come 5th of 7 finishers in a 2150m Mauquenchy Class E last week, and Franck Blandin will be eager to set the record straight

11. LICAR SOMOLLI – Yet to open his account but was not far off the mark when 2nd in a 2050m Cabourg Class E on 23 August, and Mathias Dudouit will be keen to take advantage of the good entry

Summary: Although still somewhat green, there is little doubt about the potential LENNON DU VIVIER (8) has shown and, with front pads fitted, and stride in check, he can complement his recent Amiens victory. In the bike this time, Clément Duvaldestin will be keeping a watchful eye on the well-engaged pair of LICAR SOMOLLI (11) who is plainly close to his race, and L’ECLAIR DE PLAY (10) who is in considerably better shape than his recent performance would imply. Winner on his comeback last month, LORD MIL (7) steps up in category but will sport front pads and be reined by Franck Nivard for the first time.

C7 – PRIX LYRA – 2700m (a1m1/2) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 35,000

1. LILY FLEUR – Has not been seen out since trotting 4th of 6 in a 2400m Eauze claimer 3.5 months ago and will have nothing to contribute

2. LILIE D’OMAHA – Made up for her July sanction when 3rd of 9, a place behind LOUISIANE (10), in a 2725m Pornichet Class E a month ago. Front pads fitted for first time and, with application, will not be going home empty-handed

3. LUCY DU RILER – Got off the mark in a 2475m Francheville Class F mid-August but, considering the opposition, will struggle to repeat

4. LADY DU VALLON – Took some time to come to hand but makes her Vincennes debut on a hat-trick, latterly winning a 2000m Rambouillet Class F 12 days ago. Franck Nivard keeps the faith and will be expected to finish in the mix

5. LYNDA CASTEL – Capricious sort but has bags of untapped potential. Will have come on for her 4th of 10 on re-entry in a 2100m Class E here a fortnight ago and will be expected to contest the finish

6. LEXOVIENNE – Improving sort making first start since winning a 2400m Amiens Class E early-June, but is likely to need the outing

7. LOLITA DE LANDEMER – Steps back up in category after running 2nd of 10 in a 2150m Enghien claimer mid-August. Reverts to racing with hind pads fitted but others still preferred

8. LILY MARGOT – Quickly sanctioned in a 2150m Mauquenchy Class E last week but was by some margin better than the opposition and can redeem herself if she gets off on the right foot

9. LADY MAGALOU – Won a 2700m Graignes Class F early last month, with a certain ease, and even though in more exalted company this time, still looks a serious player

10. LOUISIANE – 2nd of 9 in a 2725m Pornichet Class E a month back. Eric Raffin keeps the drive and while not a priority can nevertheless get in on the action

11. LAPONIE D’EMMA – Made it 2 successes on the trot when comfortably winning a 2950m Saint-Malo Class F on 13 August. Races left-handed for first time and will have her chances if she takes to the new profile

12. LILOU D’ATOUT – Unremarkable 6th of 9 in a 2700m Class E at La Capelle, on return from her spell, 3.5 weeks ago. Placed just once in 3 racing left-handed and others easier to back

Summary: A progressive filly, LILY MARGOT (8) was quickly sanctioned last time out but nevertheless showed she had the measure of the field and, confirmed with Gabi Gelormini, can set the record straight. It will not be all plain sailing though given how well LYNDA CASTEL (5) performed on her recent return to competition. Unbeaten in 2 starts to date, LADY MAGALOU (9) steps up in class but the hat-trick is still a possibility. Given a short rest after a disappointing debut, LAPONIE D’EMMA (11) went on to win 2 in a row and will be no easy touch if she turns.

C8 – PRIX AQUITANIA – 2200m (a1m1/2) – Class C Race – Harness – EUR € 38,000

1. MANAMA D’ORLY – Pleased on debut 12 days ago before coming last of 7 in last week’s race of reference, and can be ruled out

2. MARBOXIE D’HERIPRE – Quickly sanctioned in 13 September race of reference. Alexandre Abrivard takes over the reins and can make their presence felt if he assures her initial strides

3. MOSAIC LIFE – Quality home-bred going left-handed for first time after a trio of provincial conditioners, latterly sanctioned in a 2325m Bréhal Class G 2 months ago. Comes here fresh, reined by a leading driver, and if applied can win this

4. MARBELLA – Unlucky 4th of 7 in a 2150m Class D at Les Sables-d’Olonne a month back, but can more than redeem herself if Benjamin Rochard keeps her out of trouble

5. MISSY PERRINE – Got off the mark at Montier-en-Der last month before finishing 6th of 8 in a 2225m Ecommoy Class C on 8 September and, even with Franck Nivard reining, cannot be considered a priority

6. MY HAPPY STORY – Unthreatening 2nd of 5, on debut late-August, in a 2050m Cabourg Class D. Will have progressed for the run but represents no more than a minor place chance

7. MONEGASQUE – Defied her odds to come 3rd of 7 finishers in a Class D over track and trip a week ago, and must be taken more seriously this time around

8. MIDNIGHT MOLLY – Won a 2000m Class E at La Capelle earlier this month, at first time of asking. Unlikely to repeat but can still get a look-in

9. MAGDALENA – Ran 2nd at Cabourg before coming 5th of 7 in a Class D over course and distance a week ago. Is significantly better than that though and looks main danger to MOSAIC LIFE (3)

Summary: Obviously capable but sanctioned in 2 of 3 so far, Philippe Allaire entrusts MOSAIC LIFE (3) to Yoann Lebourgeois for her metropolitan debut and can come out a winner if he can keep her trotting. The main threat is expected to come from MAGDALENA (9) who should logically turn the tables on MONEGASQUE (7) who had her measure here last week.

6. GALAXY DU REYNARD – Finished fourth in a class G at Cagnes-sur-Mer over 2150m on 19 August. Proven at this level and deserves to be respected

7. HARKONNEN – He ran well when third in a class G at Auch over 2800m on  2 September. Confirmed amongst the amateurs, he makes the trip with ambitions

8. HATOUT DE CONNEE – Ran fifth in a class G at Salon-de-Provence over 3000m on 1 September. Not well positioned behind the car but does have place prospects. Remains barefoot

9. IRASKA DUEM – A winner in a class G at Hyeres over 2650m on 14 September. Has just won at this level and should be competitive again

10. HARY DES DAGARDES – Disqualified in the last two, the latest in a class G at Marseille-Borely over 2300m on 7 September. Major disqualification issues and is best watched for now

Summary: A competitive start to a difficult card. HARKONNEN (7) has done well enough in this level of company to get a vote to score again. GINGER DU PADOUENG (4) was disqualified last time out but does have a winning chance if smart. ICI PARIS (3) was not disgraced last time out and can do even better this time around. IRASKA DUEM (9) has just won in this division and can follow up.

Summary: HOBBY D’ERABLE (5) has long been prepared with this race in mind and is a confident pick to score. HELECTRA RACE (1) is consistent and looks likely to be a serious threat in a race of this nature. GET UP DE VAUVILLE (3) can also get involved with the finish if he runs up to his standards. HARDE DESTINEE (7) is another who is usually not too far behind at the finish and is capable of winning.

Summary: HARRY DU LYS (3) is proven at this level and can go one better on a good recent runner-up performance at Strasbourg. EURO MAKER (9) is at his best under the saddle these days and is barefoot so should be a live danger. HAWAI MAB (4) is also barefoot this time around and has what it takes to feature prominently. FILLMORE (7) is in good form and deserves respect for a good last win in a harness race.

Summary: LAZIZA DE LIGNY (8) has looked good in both of her wins and she does set the standard in an interesting class of undefeated runners. L’OR DU MELEUC (4) has won both starts and will not go down without a fight. LOOKING SIXTY ONE (7) is a quality colt but returns from a break. He would not be a surprise winner. LYRE DE BEYLEV (10) won nicely last time out and could also be a threat.

C5 – PRIX EMILE RIBAL – 2600m (a1m1/2) – Class C Race – Harness – EUR € 26,000

1. KALIENTE D’ATOUT – Long-time 23-start maiden unplaced in 4 consecutive recent outings, the latest (7th) at Marseille-Borely in this configuration over 3000m on 11 September

2. KINGDOM DU LIAMONE – Has made no impression in 13 appearances this year – finished unplaced (6th) in his latest outing at Cagnes over 2700m on 15 August

3. KYLLIAN – Consistent, lightly raced trotter with sound references including a last-start 4th over 2250m when last seen on 23 May at Salon-de-Provence. Best watched for now

4. KARMA DE BERTRANGE – Honest hard-knocker who seldom finishes far off the mark and boasts sound references in this shoe-fitting in this grade. Didn’t go unnoticed when 5th over 3000m at Marseille-Borely on 11 September – dark horse

5. KONOR HIGHLAND – Unreliable but has sufficient means to make his presence felt at this level under these conditions (unshod). Shouldn’t be hastily condemned for his 8th in a stronger race over 2850m at Feurs on 2 September

6. KOKIN DE BELLANDE – Inconsistent but confirmed under these/similar conditions and in this shoe-fitting. Returned to form with a reassuring 2nd over 2300m at Marseille-Borely on 29 August

7. KENNY PEARL – Has regained momentum and proven her efficiency/competitiveness in this unshod configuration. Caught the eye when finishing 4th over 2650m at Hyeres on 12 August – won on her only visit to this course in June

8. KALGARY – Complicated colt with undeniable means – highly thought of by connections. Runner-up at Cagnes (2925m) before a disappointing last-start 9th over 3000m at Marseille-Borely on 11 September – can’t be written off

9. KISS BOY – Unreliable but has the means, even in this (shod) shoe-fitting, to stake a claim in a race of this nature on a going day. Has to bounce back from a disappointing 10th over 2850m at Lyon-Parilly on 5 September

10. KANEA DE L’ABBAYE – Unreliable but undeniably capable filly with the means to have a say in a race like this on a going day. Disqualified at Vichy on 27 August but could redeem herself racing in this shoe-fitting for the first time

11. KENZA KALOUMA – Ultra-consistent, progresive filly with sound references/form credentials including a last-start win at Vichy over 2800m on 2 July.  Has to be seriously respected on her reappearance

12. KANDIE D’ORCO – Out of sorts (unplaced her last 4 starts) but has sound references under these/similar conditions and in this barefoot configuration at a higher level. Finished 9th (shod) at Feurs on 2 September but fully unshod here

13. KILL BILL PIYA – Delicate but will be hard to beat if remaining wise (avoiding disqualification). Showed his form/well-being by finishing 2nd over 2850m at Feaurs on 2 September – sets the standard

14. KANGALA DE FAEL – Out of sorts but is confirmed under these/similar conditions and in this shoe-fitting with references at a higher level. Finished 7th over 2175m at Vincennes on 7 September she ought to fare better in this grade

Summary: KILL BILL PIYA (13) impressed when winning at this venue over 2525m during the spring and will logically start as the favorite. KANGALA DE FAEL (14) should find this an easier assignment after finishing unplaced at Vincennes last time and she possesses sufficient means to fight for victory, as does promising KENZA KALOUMA (11) who has revealed the ability/potential to pose a threat on her reappearance. KALGARY (8) and KOKIN DE BELLANDE (6) appeal most of the remainder.

SELECTIONS
KILL BILL PIYA (13) – KANGALA DE FAEL (14) – KENZA KALOUMA (11) – KALGARY (8)
C6 – PRIX MAURICE UZEL – 2525m (a1m1/2) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 26,000

1. IMUVRINI – Consistent hard-knocker confirmed under these/similar conditions in this barefoot configuration. Showed his form and well-being when 2nd over 3000m at Salon-de-Provence on 1 September so isn’t taken lightly

2. JUVE D’HERIPRE – Undefeated in August, winning consecutive (both) starts at Hyeres last month – the latest racing shod over 2650m on 12 August. Will fight for victory in her hat-trick bid

3. JOCKSTRAP – Delicate trotter disqualified in 7 of his last 10 appearances, though undeniably capable of playing a leading role if applied/remaining wise despite finishing 14th (shod) over 2850m at Feurs on 2 September. Keep safe

4. INFINITY JYV – Unreliable mare. Seldom far off the mark on a going day but is best watched for now having been soundly beaten over 2450m at Castillonnès on 8 September

5. ICEMAN BLEU – Complicated trotter disqualified in 4 of his last 6 starts, including his latest at Vichy on 14 September. Won’t be far off the mark if remaining wise (avoiding disqualification)

6. INVERSION JULRY – Versatile mare with sound references/form credentials in both trotting categories, including a last-start 4th under the saddle over 2950m at Vichy on 14 September. Not taken lightly returned to the harness code

7. JURAE VET – Has regained momentum recently and proven her efficiency/competitiveness in this shoeing configuration by finishing 3rd in consecutive recent starts, the latest over 2800m at Auch on 1 September. Will be a factor

8. INCREDIBLE GO – Inconsistent but confirmed under these/similar conditions and in this unshod configuration. Disappointed (9th) at Auch over 2800m on 1 September so needs to reaffirm

9. JERKO DES BUDENTS – Unplaced in 3 consecutive outings before his last-start disqualification at Jullianges on 25 August. Needs to reaffirm – watch for now

10. JAHA MAN DU PONT – Unreliable trotter although not entirely incapable of making his presence felt in a race like this, especially in this (barefoot) configuration. Unplaced (9th, shod) over 2140m at Rättvik when last seen on 15 July

Summary: The five-year-olds seem to have the edge over their year-older rivals in this event and JURAE VET (7), with David Bekaert in the sulky, could be the one to side with ahead of hat-trick seeking JUVE D’HERIPRE (2) who should remain competitive for victory despite the step up in class. JOCKSTRAP (3), judged on his best references, is undeniably capable of playing a leading role but this remains a question of his wisdom. IMUVRINI (1) appeals most of the older brigade and shouldn’t be underestimated.

C7 – PRIX DE LA SOCIETE DU TROTTEUR FRANCAIS – 2525m (a1m1/2) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 23,000

1. HUB – Complicated trotter who has been disqualified in 7 of his last 8 starts, including his latest on 14 September at Miramont-de-Guyenne. Others preferred

2. IBIZA DE BOURGOGNE – Honest mare rewarded for consistency with a last-start success over 2850m at Lyon-Parilly on 5 September. Ought to remain competitive

3. IROCCO DE VIETTE – Bounced back to form with a reassuring 4th over 2925m at Cagnes on 15 August and has already proven his efficiency/competitiveness in this grade and with this (unshod) shoe-fitting configuration. Keep safe

4. HALBI – Honest hard-knocker confirmed this shoe-fitting under these/similar conditions and seldom finishes far off the mark in this grade. Didn’t go unnoticed when 5th over 2300m at Marseille-Borely on 29 August – beware

5. IPSOS D’ARIANE – Currently enjoying a purple patch after back-to-back wins (both starts) last month, the latest on this course over 2600m on 25 August. The hat-trick is within reach

6. HOTELLO DESBOIS – Won 4 consecutive starts before finishing 2nd at Cagnes over 2150m in July. Out of sorts since, unplaced in both subsequent outings – the latest (7th) over 3000m at Sault on 11 August – but could bounce back under these favourable conditions

7. FURIES RAIN – Recently arrived on French soil from Sweden but unplaced in back-to-back outings at Cagnes last month, finishing 7th on both occasions – the latest over 2925m on 19 August. For another day

8. IRLANDE DU NORD – Last-start winner of an amateur race at Vichy over 4275m on 14 September in this (barefoot) configuration. Up in class but is again presented unshod

9. CUBA DEL DUOMO – Consistent, well-performed mare with sound references/form credentials on French soil including a 2nd on this course over 2600m on 6 April. Won’t be far off the mark

10. HAPPY DE NICE – Was returning from a 4-month absence to finish an encouraging 5th over 2050m at Feurs on 1 September. Not taken lightly

Summary: IPSOS D’ARIANE (5) arrives in sparkling form after back-to-back recent victories, the latest on this course, and he is good value to complete the hat-trick on the evidence of his last start. IROCCO DE VIETTE (3) and IBIZA DE BOURGOGNE (2) are the biggest dangers to his pursuit of that hat-trick and will make expose any chinks in the selection’s armour. HOTELLO DESBOIS (6) must bounce back from recent failures but, judged on his earlier form, has sufficient means to play a leading role.

SELECTIONS

C8 – GRAND PRIX DE TROT DE CAVAILLON – 2600m (a1m1/2) – Class C Race – Harness – EUR € 38,000

1. HABANERO DE VIETTE – Delicate hard-knocker seldom far from a fault but does acquit himself well when avoiding disqualification. Sanctioned in consecutive recent outings, the latest at Saint-Galmier on 24 August – a question of wisdom

2. HOUSTON PAJELO – Out of sorts but an undeniably capable veteran with sound references at a higher level under these/similar conditions in this unshod configuration. Not taken lightly despite his Laval disqualification on 6 September

3. HOBAMA – Inconsistent trotter whose best references/performances were achieved racing unshod. Returned to form with a good 5th (barefoot) over 3100m at Granville on 4 August but races shod here – best watched for now

4. EL PARDO – Has gone off the boil recently – soundly beaten (unplaced) in 3 consecutive outings before his recent failure (disqualification) at Divonne over 2675m on 18 August. Others preferred

5. GAJAC – Well-performed veteran with 11 victories but went off the boil in June and looks to have lost his way since. Soundly beaten (11th) over 2550m at Beaumont on 3 September – unlikely to trouble the judge

6. FALKO DE NOUVILLE – Honest hard-knocker who seldom finishes far off the mark and has sound references in this shoe-fitting in this grade. Unplaced (8th) over 2850m at Feurs on 2 September so will need to improve to get a look in

7. HYDROMEL – Consistent performer with sound references/form credentials at a higher level. Didn’t go unnoticed despite finishing unpaced (7th) over 2550m at Beaumont on 3 September – keep safe

8. EOLE DU PRIEURE – Won and finished 2nd in back-to-back 2700m races at Aix-les-Bains in this barefoot configuration before his last-start 11th (shod) at Marseille-Borely on 11 September. Was carefully prepared for this engagement

9. HOT SUMMER – Snapped a run of 3 consecutive disqualifications when finishing 2nd (unshod) at Hyeres over 2650m when last seen on 12 July. Presented shod on his reappearance so is best watched for now

10. EQUIANO – Complicated 10-year-old veteran disqualified in 3 of his last 4 starts, including his most recent outing over 2875m at Enghien on 3 July. Seldom far off the mark when applied/remaining wise – best watched for now

11. FORBACH – Consistent performer whose best references have been achieved when racing without his irons (unshod). Didnt go unnoticed when 4th over 2150m at Castéra-Verduzan on 19 August but races shod here – outsider

12. FLEURON D’ACADIE – Well-performed veteran trotter with 13 victories to his name, though currently out of sorts – unplaced (9th) at Cagnes over 2925m on 15 August. Has no references in this shoeing configuration – beware

14. EASTON OF MY LIFE – Unreliable but has proven his competitiveness at this level and under these/similar conditions with this shoeing configuration. Shouldnt be hastily condemned for finishing 10th at Castéra-Verduzan on 19 August

15. GHOSTBUSTER – Only recently joined Franck Terry and made a winning start for the stable at Castéra-Verduzan over 2150m in this grade on 19 August. Ought to remain competitive

16. FOSTER WOOD – Thriving, rejuvenated veteran currently at the top of his game – in his last 6 starts, won twice and finished 2nd on 4 occasions, including in his latest outing over 2925m at Cagnes on 24 August. The horse to beat

Summary: FOSTER WOOD (16) is at the top of his game and found only Galba Ringeat too good when 2nd in his hat-trick bid at Cagnes on 24 August. Back on a right-handed track and ideally engaged at the earnings limit, he sets a good standard and is the horse to beat. Ideally positioned on the front row from the start, EOLE DU PRIEURE (8) could make life difficult for the selection, having been carefully prepared for this engagement. Both last-start winner GHOSTBUSTER (15) and hard-knocking HYDROMEL (7) are likely to acquit themselves competitively and have legitimate podium aspirations. HOUSTON PAJELO (2), FLORINE DE VIETTE (13) and EASTON OF MY LIFE (14) complete the shortlist.

3. PHILLIBAY – Credible 4th on her debut at Le Lion D’Angers on August 4th over 1400m. Should come forward from that run but others look more likely

5. GALAXINA – Newcomer by Fas, the dam won one race on the flat. Stable runners warrant respect and this filly should be watched in the betting for any support

Summary: LORD WOOTTON CEN (4) was in firm control of the race at the business end on his taking debut at Parislongchamp in late August. The front pair were five lengths ahead of the others that day and this colt looks a smart prospect. EXPOSURE (2) is a danger if allowed to dominate like he did when he won at Saint-Cloud last time. 10. ANZOR – Unraced colt by Almanzor, the dam never ran. From a trainer who can ready a debutante. Any market support should be noted

11. MANNEVILLE – Unraced filly by Le Havre, the dam won three times including two Listed races, and was placed in Group 3 races. Has a nice profile and she should be watched in the betting for any market moves

Summary: BORGIA’S OAK (7) will be well-tuned by his shrewd trainer and could be the answer in this newcomer’s race. ASHNAK (1) looks the part on paper, his dam won three times on the flat and this gelding should know what is required. ANZOR (10) is also from a trainer who has a good record with a debutante and the booking of Christophe Soumillon catches the eye. NEW GROUND (5) is out of a good mare who won in Pattern class. 6. HIT IT – Won over 1600m at Deauville in a handicap on her latest outing on August 17th. Listed placed in May. Key chance

7. SOLINAH – Two nice runs, she won on her debut in April at Saint-Cloud and was a decent 2nd in a Class 2 race at Parislongchamp on May 9th over 1600m. Has had a break and might need this run

Summary: HIT IT (6) put up a good performance when she won a well-contested handicap at Deauville in mid-August when last seen. She can edge this from CI MER (4) who ran a decent race when she ran in a Group 3 race at Chantilly in mid-July when she was fourth. ASHIYMA (3) looked a nice filly when she won on her debut last October. She has a fitness concern but she can not be ruled out. SAIDI EL FAL (1) heads the remainder.

Summary: MR DIAFOIRUS (4) ran a credible race in a Listed event last time when he was fifth and he scored before that at Compiegne in July. He is marginally preferred to his stablemate ANNABEL’S GHOST (3) who looks like a strong stayer and can make his rivals work hard for success. MOONGLADE (8) has done little wrong in two starts and can make the frame. PRINCE DES VILLES (1) got the job done on his debut and can improve. He should be fine over this extra distance.

Summary: MARTIAL ART (11) has shown more than enough to win a race of this nature. He was not beaten far on the PSF last time and is the tentative selection in an open handicap. FEARLESS CHEETAH (4) was less than a length off the winner when fourth at Le Lion D’Angers in mid-August in a handicap and looks like she could be the main danger.
