French Selections Wednesday 2nd

R1 MESLAY-DU-M. [R-H]
C1 – GRAND PRIX ANJOU-MAINE – 2875m (a2m) – Gr3 Race – Harness – EUR € 100,000

1. FINE PERLE OF LOVE – Pulled-up in a 2800m Bernay Class A early-July. Has not been seen since and, in this company, has absolutely no chance

2. J’AIME LE FOOT – Tough individual that ran 6th of 15 in 3000m Gr.1 Critérium des 5 Ans at Vincennes 2.5 weeks ago. Rarely far off the mark in black-type affairs and is not about to buck the trend. First 5

3. HYMNE DU GERS – Classy trotter with nothing to prove at this level, latterly clinching a 2950m Le Mans Gr.3 3 weeks ago. Boasts solid clockwise references and is well-placed to give this a good go

4. INO DU LUPIN – 9th of 15, to HYMNE DU GERS (3), in a 2950m Le Mans Gr.3 3 weeks ago, when being conditioned for this. Is new to the venue, excels right-handed, and has every chance of imposing

5. INEXESS BLEU – Produced 2 fine efforts before finishing an unlucky 5th to GASPAR D’ANGIS (9) in a 2850m Parilly Gr.3 a fortnight ago. Starts on front line here and looks a serious player

6. HARLEM DE BUCY – Good 2nd of 11 in a 2850m Vincennes monté Class A late-August. Races barefoot this time and, while not without merit, faces a tougher test on this occasion

7. GENDREEN – Unremarkable 7th of 13 in a 2600m Cherbourg Gr.3 a weeks ago. 25m better off this time but still not an obvious choice

8. BORDEAUX S. – Sanctioned mid-August over 1640m at Montecatini. Is an honest trotter though, with solid French references, and races barefoot, but may be still be biting off more than he can chew

9. GASPAR D’ANGIS – Classy but erratic type that returned to winning ways in a 2850m Parilly Gr.3 a fortnight ago. Forced to break from back line on this occasion but seldom disappoints when racing clockwise and must be afforded considerable respect

10. JEAN BALTHAZAR – Unraced since finishing 2nd of 8 finishers in a 3000m Vincennes Gr.1 on 23 June. Has other priorities and will have nothing to contribute

11. HIRONDELLE DU RIB – Sanctioned in a 2600m Cherbourg Gr.3 last week. Shoes on again and can be confidently disregarded

12. GU D’HERIPRE – Serious sort that has raced just once since the winter, latterly 6th of 10 in a 2700m Graignes Class D in early-August. Sports front pads for re-entry but has no left-handed references and can be passed over

13. HOKKAIDO JIEL – Has not been seen out since running 4th of 12 in 2100m Vincennes Gr.1 on 23 June. Shoes on and best to hold off

14. IDEALE DU CHENE – Makes first appearance since winning a 2200m Vincennes monté Gr.1 8 months ago. Here for reasons of conditioning and can be ignored

15. JUST A GIGOLO – Beat HOHNECK (16) in an Argentan Gr.2 over a mile before failing to place in next 2, latterly 8th of 15, behind J’AIME LE FOOT (2), in 3000m Gr.1 Critérium des 5 Ans at Vincennes 2.5 weeks ago. Not a priority but can play a small part

16. HOHNECK – 5th of 11, despite being denied a run, in an 1800m Gr.2 at La Capelle early last month. Has never disappointed going clockwise, is known more for his sprinting prowess, and incurs the penalty, but is still competitive

Summary: Front-line starters appear to have the advantage here with the wonderfully-consistent INO DU LUPIN (4) barefoot for his first objective of the season and, winner of 4 of his 6 right-handed starts, is very easy to like. He will be opposed though by the Abrivard’s provincial traveller, INEXESS BLEU (5), who was not the luckiest in a recent Parilly Gr.3, but who looks good enough to exact revenge on that day’s winner, GASPAR D’ANGIS (9) who has an extra 25m to travel this time. HYMNE DU GERS (3) hardly put a foot wrong over the summer and his recent GNT Gr.3 success stands him in good stead.

SELECTIONS
INO DU LUPIN (4) – INEXESS BLEU (5) – GASPAR D’ANGIS (9) – HYMNE DU GERS (3)
C2 – PRIX DU PAYS DE MESLAY GREZ – 2875m (a2m) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 23,000

1. LOUNA STAR – Turned a corner over the summer, latterly 4th of 7 in a 2150m Cagnes Class E on 19 August. Placed just once in 3 clockwise starts and is not about to spring a surprise

2. LOUISIANA DU DERBY – Never far from faulting but came a reassuring 4th of 9 in a Pornichet Class E late-August. Comes here fresh, starts in front, and looks eminently capable of finishing in the mix

3. LAUBERHORN – Made up for his Tours disappointment when losing his maiden tag in a 2600m Class E at Blain-Bouvron-Le Gâvre 10 days ago. Unlikely to repeat but can still play an active role

4. L’ESPOIR – Interesting future prospect starting for first time since comfortably winning a 2550m Bordeaux Class F late-April, and is unlikely to be given a hard race

5. LIKE POWER – 6th of 9, a place behind LOLLIPOP STAR (7), in a 2200m Vichy monté Class D 11 days ago. Seldom makes his presence felt under harness and is not about to start

6. L’AS DE SAINT JEAN – Won on debut before finishing 9th of 11 in a 2600m Landivisiau Class F on 1 September. Has had time to recalibrate and is well-placed to put things right

7. LOLLIPOP STAR – Back under harness after finishing 5th of 9 in a 2200m Vichy monté Class D 11 days ago. Front pads fitted for first time and will be worth monitoring

8. LICENZA – Useful filly making her first start since coming 4th of 12 in a 2200m Caen Class D late-June, but will be expected to need the run

9. LORD DE VANDEL – Defied his odds to come 2nd of 9 in a 2850m Laval Class E mid-September. Could not have asked for a better entry and with David Thomain at the helm, can open his seasonal account

10. LOVE ME AGAIN – Last but one on return to competition in a 2950m Le Mans Class D 3 weeks ago. Has other priorities though and will have little to offer

11. LASER GEMA – Solid in last 3, latterly 2nd of 6 in a 2100m Vincennes Class E a month ago. Incurs the penalty but the new shoeing formula could make all the difference. Chance

12. LYNX D’URZY – Last of 5 in a 2700m Vincennes monté Class D a fortnight ago and, under harness, has no possible chance

13. LUTHER – Unraced since faulting in a 2700m Vincennes monté Class B on 18 June. Has other priorities and can be ruled out

14. LUMIERE DU CHENE – Sanctioned early in a 2700m Vincennes Class D last week. Debuts right-handed, with Eric Raffin reining, and even from the back row has a decent chance of expressing her potential

15. LIGNERY – Sanctioned as often as not but opened his account in a 2775m Class D at Les Sables-d’Olonne 2 months ago. Races first-time clockwise but has the wherewithal to get in on the action. First 5

16. LADY AURELIA – Sanctioned in last 3, latterly a 2600m Cherbourg Class B a week ago. On back line, but drops in category and, with application, could pleasantly surprise

17. LETS GO DE MONCHEL – Last of 10 in a 2100m Vincennes Class C a fortnight ago. Shoes back on and, in current form, can be passed over

18. LADY DADA – Missed out by little in a 2700m Vincennes Class D on Saturday. Takes on the colts this time though and, despite the good entry, chances still limited

Summary: Ideally-engaged at the limit of earnings, LORD DE VANDEL (9) has shown very good aptitude so far and, with pads fitted for the first time, can win this. The progressive LASER GEMA (11) is 25m worse off but the addition of pads could well compensate for the deficit. Winner first time out, L’AS DE SAINT JEAN (6) benefits from a front-line break and, fitted with front pads, can make up for his recent clinker. LUMIERE DU CHENE (14) showed her form after faulting at Vincennes recently and will have a good hand to play if she turns and keeps trotting.

SELECTIONS
LORD DE VANDEL (9) – LASER GEMA (11) – L’AS DE SAINT JEAN (6) – LUMIERE DU CHENE (14)
C3 – PRIX DU CONSEIL REGIONAL DES PAYS DE LA LOIRE – 2875m (a2m) – Class F Race – Mounted – EUR € 26,000

1. LOVELEY LASSE – Last but one over 1640m at home in Jägersro late-July. Has monté form in Sweden but appears to be biting off more than he can chew

2. L.L.LABERO – 7th of 8, behind ZANZA FRANK (8), in a 2725m Pornichet Class E 11 days ago. Yet to show any particular bent for the code and can be ruled out

3. ILLICO DE LOU – Won a 2950m Le Mans Class E, on comeback 3 weeks ago. Mathieu Mottier in the irons this time and could well win this if he manages to keep his charge trotting

4. GOSSIP – Not entirely without merit but trailed in last of 8 in a 2550m Class D at Beaumont-de-Lomagne on 9 September and will need to raise his game

5. BEAUTIFUL BOY(ITY) – 8th of 10, on return to competition, in a 2700m Vincennes Class D 2.5 weeks ago. Will have come on for the run but others still preferred

6. MISTER INVICTUS – Won at Cabourg before enduring stride woes in a 2875m Argentan Class F mid-July. Unraced since but is no slouch when focused and must be considered a contender

7. IN LOVE REGLISSE – Returns to racing right-handed after finishing last but one in a 2700m Vincennes Class C last week. Unexceptional here in July and not a priority

8. ZANZA FRANK – Quality Italian veteran that has turned a corner since coming to France, latterly 5th of 8 in a 2725m Pornichet Class E 11 days ago, but has conditions in his favour here and can make this his own

9. IDEAL DU NOYER – Runner-up in last 3, most recently a 3100m Class H at Nort-sur-Erdre 2.5 weeks ago. Steps back up in category but has nothing to prove at this level and will be expected to give ZANZA FRANK (8) a run for his money

10. ISABELLA DIMJY – Last of 14 when preparing for this in a 2950m harness Class E at Le Mans 3 weeks ago. Boasts solid monté references though and, barefoot for the occasion, could pleasantly surprise

11. GAZ OIL – Back under the saddle after coming 4th of 9 in a 2550m Reims harness Class G mid-month and is not about to spring a surprise

12. FAST AND TONIC – Debuts in the discipline after finishing 9th of 13 in a 2700m Graignes Class F late-August, and will have few friends

13. ILEO PIERJI – 5th of 6 in a 2625m Class F at La Rochelle early-August. Enjoys a good entry though, races barefoot for first time in over 2 years, and will be dangerous if Marius Durville keeps him trotting

14. HERMINE DU GUELIER – Made up for her Laval sanction when 3rd of 8 in a 2750m Class E at La Capelle on 23 September. Is unlikely to cause an upset but can still make her presence felt

Summary: Enjoying something of a second youth after switching codes, ZANZA FRANK (8) is reunited with Eric Raffin who ran 2nd with him here in July and looks thoroughly capable of imposing this time. They will still encounter resistance from the on-form IDEAL DU NOYER (9) who is dynamic when barefoot, and ILEO PIERJI (13) who is significantly better than his latest performance would suggest. MISTER INVICTUS (6) may not have been seen out since mid-July but he has shoes off and has shown considerable potential.

SELECTIONS
ZANZA FRANK (8) – IDEAL DU NOYER (9) – ILEO PIERJI (13) – MISTER INVICTUS (6)
C4 – PRIX DE LA VILLE DE MESLAY DU MAINE – 2875m (a2m) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 26,000

1. JASMINE DE JYR – Made it 3 straight sanctions after faulting in a 2550m Dieppe Class E 2.5 weeks ago. Benjamin Rochard in the bike this time and can play an active role if he keeps her trotting

2. JOY DU CHERISAY – Makes first appearance since coming 5th of 12 in a 2100m Vincennes Class D mid-April and, with shoes on, will have nothing to offer

3. JAYA DES BROUSSES – Good, consistent campaigner that was oddly sanctioned in a Class D over course and distance mid-August. Has had time to freshen up and will not be far from the action if Anthony Dollion keeps her focused

4. JAFLO GEMA – Excellent over the summer but disappointing lately, most recently last of 12 in a 2550m Dieppe Class E 2.5 weeks ago, but it is only a matter of time before she comes good again

5. JALAPA DU BUISSON – 9th of 15, behind JUVAMINE RENARDIER (16), in a 2100m Vincennes Class D 2 weeks ago. Matthieu Abrivard reining this time but cannot be considered a player

6. JEEDAYA DU VIVIER – Took some time to come to hand this term but close 2nd of 8 in a 2175m Vincennes Class E on 13 September, and has everything in her favour to win a race of this nature

7. JASMINE D’OUILLY – Sanctioned in a 2100m Vincennes Class D a fortnight ago. Has done nothing noteworthy since last November and can be confidently passed over

8. JADE VENESI – Reverts to a previous formula after coming 6th, 2 places behind JUVAMINE RENARDIER (16), in a 2100m Vincennes Class D 2 weeks ago, but others still easier to back

9. JAVA DES CAILLONS – Has taken her game to a new level recently, winning 2 of last 3, latterly a 2750m Cabourg Class E, with consummate authority, on 13 August. Has a lot more to give and enjoys a realistic chance of doubling her money

10. JOCONDE DE RHEVE – Sanctioned when en route to a frame-finish in a 2950m Le Mans Class E 3 weeks ago after having won at Strasbourg, and can make a big splash if Loïc Guinoiseau keeps her trotting

11. JASMINE DE GREZ – A case of all-or-nothing since the spring. Got it right in a 2800m Vire Class E a month ago and, if applied, can get a look-in

12. JOIE INTENSE – Serious, but tricky, mare that finished 10th of 12, on return to competition mid-September, in a 2550m Dieppe Class E. Stays shod though and best to wait

13. JINA FOUTEAU – Quality mare facing first goal of new season after finishing 7th of 13, on re-entry, in a 2950m Le Mans Class E 3 weeks ago. Seldom disappoints and makes her Meslay debut with a lot to contribute. Place chance

14. JET GIRL – Unraced since finishing 7th of 13 in a 2200m Caen Class C last May. Shoes on and no threat

15. JIRELLITA – Complicated mare that finished last of 13, behind JINA FOUTEAU (13), in a 2950m Le Mans Class E 3 weeks ago and, in current shape, has no realistic chance

16. JUVAMINE RENARDIER – Solid 4th of 15 in a 2100m Vincennes Class D 2 weeks ago. Is better than many here and will not be available at 42/1 this time around

Summary: An excellent race in prospect here. JEEDAYA DU VIVIER (6) has won 7 of her 12 starts to date, 2 of them going clockwise, went painfully close at Vincennes last month, races unshod-behind, and the engagement of Eric Raffin will be expected to bear fruit. That said, JAVA DES CAILLONS (9) has simply excelled recently and will not go down without a fight. Consistently in the thick of things, JINA FOUTEAU (13) has a race under her belt and, barefoot this time, can make the frame. Unplaced here mid-August, JOCONDE DE RHEVE (10) went on to win at Strasbourg and, after going close at Le Mans [before faulting], returns to racing right-handed with a good hand to play.

SELECTIONS
JEEDAYA DU VIVIER (6) – JAVA DES CAILLONS (9) – JINA FOUTEAU (13) – JOCONDE DE RHEVE (10)
C5 – PRIX ROMET – 2850m (a2m) – Class B Race – Harness – EUR € 30,000

1. KYOKA BOCNEUF – Has gone from strength to strength lately, most recently winning a 2100m Vincennes Class E early-September. Is confirmed racing clockwise, starts on first line, and can play a leading role

2. KADENCE D’ENFER – Unraced since faulting in a 2150m Enghien Class D last April. Is barefoot for re-entry and could pleasantly surprise if she manages to keep her stride in check

3. KERMES – Sanctioned in 4 of last 7, latterly a 2550m Cherbourg Class B on 19 August when clearly going well. Enjoys a front-row start though and Mathieu Mottier will be keen to make up for latest clinker

4. KOMREVEE DIESCHOOT – Won 3 of last 4 races she has finished, latterly a 2850m Parilly Class E 2 weeks ago. Has yet to impose for Antoine Wiels but, with application, this could be the day

5. KERIDA PHEDO – Here for a change of scenery after winning a 2200m Vincennes monté Class E early last month. Shoes on and poses no danger

6. KRONOS ZEN – Won late-August before faulting, when full of running, in a 2850m Vincennes Class D 10 days ago. Has talent in spades, is wonderfully-entered in front, and with application will not be far off the mark

7. KAISARIA – Last seen out finishing 7th of 9 in a 2875m Enghien monté Class C early-July. Shoes on and no threat

8. KEPI DU HOME – Has not been seen out since finishing 7th of 9 finishers in a 2700m Vincennes Class A last March. Is still in ‘conditioning’ mode and best to leave alone

9. KING GEORGES – Put 4 sanctions behind him to win a 2175m Vincennes Class C early-June. Unseen since though and, shod for the occasion, is not about to shake things up

10. KINOA DU LIVIER – Makes her first appearance since running 8th of 12, behind KOSANOSTRA (12), in a 2875m Enghien Class C on 8 August. Is confirmed racing clockwise but with shoes on will have little to contribute

11. KIKA JOSSELYN – Sent for a break after winning 4 of last 5, latterly a 2700m Vincennes Class C mid-May. Unraced since, is shod for the occasion, but benefits from a good entry and will have her supporters

12. KOSANOSTRA – By no means disgraced when 5th of 10 finishers in a 2175m Vincennes Class C 3.5 weeks ago. Is better than that though and given the opportunity, will be competitive for a place on the podium

13. KEL AIR D’EOLE – Sanctioned in a 2750m Class B at Les Sables-d’Olonne, on comeback, early last month. Has nothing to offer here and can be disregarded

14. KALMIA PERRINE – Serious filly making first start since trotting 10th of 13 in a 2850m Vincennes Gr.3 last February. Shoes on and will be race-rusty

15. KOBAYASHI – Group-class colt that returned from his break with 6th of 10 in a 2825m Chartres Class B on 13 September. Stays shod again and, while not a priority from 3rd line, can still pick up a cheque

16. KANADA – Quality mare that has not been seen out since finishing 7th of 9 in a 2700m Vincennes Gr.2 last November. Shoes on and will not be given a hard race

Summary: An intriguing contest with just a slight advantage going to front-row starters KOMREVEE DIESCHOOT (4), as complicated as they come but with bags of ability, and KYOKA BOCNEUF (1) who was rewarded for her efforts with victory in Paris early last month. KOSANOSTRA (12) has no shortage of ability, is more capable than her recent run would suggest, and the fine entry on the 2nd line will only work in her favour. KRONOS ZEN (6) is similarly well-in, but on the front row, and will have his chances if he deigns to keep his action together.

SELECTIONS
KOMREVEE DIESCHOOT (4) – KYOKA BOCNEUF (1) – KOSANOSTRA (12) – KRONOS ZEN (6)
C6 – PRIX LECLERC CHATEAU-GONTIER – 2875m (a2m) – Class E Race – Harness – EUR € 30,000

1. HIPSTER DE CAHOT – Hardy element but has yet to get into his stride this term, most recently sanctioned in a 2850m Laval amateurs Class G earlier in the month. Appreciates Meslay but cannot be considered a player

2. GAROU LIONNAIS – Alternates the good with the less good but will need to show marked improvement on his 10th of 14 in a 2950m Saint-Malo Class F mid-August

3. GOOD FRIEND – Steps back up in category after running 6th of 13 in a 2675m Alençon claimer 10 days ago and not a realistic proposition

4. GENTLEMEN GOLFEUR – Disappointed at Pornichet before faulting in a 3100m monté Class F at Nort-sur-Erdre a month ago, and has nothing to contribute here

5. HAMLET DE CALVI – Showed marginal improvement when 5th of 10 in a 2400m Ploublay Class F 3.5 weeks ago, but still has more to find

6. HOPE YOU CAN – Produced a brace of good efforts before flopping to 12th of 14 in a 2200m Caen amateurs Class F 2 weeks ago, but will be expected to bounce back and, from front line, has a reasonable chance of making first 5

7. GARD – Honest sort that ran a good 5th of 13 in a 2950m Toulouse Class D 12 days ago. Has yet to deliver at Meslay but Eric Raffin gets the nod and must be taken seriously

8. HERMES HAUFOR – Did not enjoy the best of trips when 7th of 11 in a 2725m Pornichet Class F late-August. Is proven at the venue, comes here fresh, and from the first line, will be expected to figure prominently

9. HERMES LUDOIS – Somewhat below-par 7th of 14 in a 2725m Pornichet Class E 11 days ago. Not ideally-engaged on 2nd line either and others preferred

10. HURIEL LUDOIS – Ran 2nd to GENET DE BOITRON (16) in a 2950m Redon Class E a month back. Has never disappointed here when unshod, is clearly in top condition, and will be no pushover

11. FISTON A PAPA – Looked very ordinary when 10th of 13 in a 2100m Vincennes Class D on 13 September and even returning to a previous configuration, still looks out of his depth

12. HOLD UP RANAIS – Back at the top of his game, most recently running 3rd of 13 in a 2100m Vincennes Class D on 13 September. Sanctioned on lone appearance here but in current form looks a serious proposition

13. FREDO GRIFF – Races with front shoes off after finishing 4th of 6 in a 2800m Langon claimer earlier in the month, and can be confidently passed over

14. GLYCINA BELLA – Has turned a corner recently, winning a 2650m Laval Class D in good order on 25 August. Has never disappointed here and should take all the beating

15. GAUDEPSOU – Modest last of 6 finishers in a 2950m Vichy Class D 2 months ago. Matthieu Abrivard reining this time and, if close to race-fit, can get in on the action

16. GENET DE BOITRON – Not the most dependable but won 2 of last 4. 7th behind GARD (7) in a 2950m Toulouse Class D 12 days ago however and a minor place chance at best this time

Summary: Given a short breather after winning her second in three starts, GLYCINA BELLA (14) returns to a track she adores and even from the back row, still looks the pick of the field. Antoine Wiels will still want to be wary of the reinvigorated HOLD UP RANAIS (12) who takes a marginal dip in category, and HURIEL LUDOIS (10) who made up for his clinker at Les Sables with a solid effort at Redon. HERMES HAUFOR (8) enjoys a 25m head-start this time and will be competitive for a place on the podium.

C7 – PRIX DU CONSEIL DEPARTEMENTAL DE LA MAYENNE – 2875m (a2m) – Class D Race – Mounted – EUR € 34,000

1. IRESINE DU LUPIN – Serious mare making first start since being sanctioned in a 2825m Cordemais Class D last April. Races shod and others preferred this time

2. IKURO JIEL – Made up for his Laval sanction when 3rd of 8 in a 2400m Amiens Class D 11 days ago. Pleased on lone appearance here, is plainly close to his race, and the Mathieu Mottier-factor must be taken into account

3. ENJEU DAIRPET – Disappointing since late-June, latterly faulting in a 2750m Ecommoy Class E 10 days ago, and appears to have nothing to contribute

4. IMAGINE D’ATOUT – Sent for a rest after authoritatively securing the hat-trick in a 2550m Class E at Beaumont-de-Lomagne early-June. Has not been seen out since, but thrives with Guillaume Martin, and looks competitively well-in

5. HOLKA DU LYS – Quality mare that should not be too hastily-judged for finishing last but one, behind HIS DREAM DE CAHOT (8), in a 2700m Vincennes Class D on 21 August. Has solid references with his jockey and must be respected

6. FERRERO DU LOISIR – Has ample ability but is never far from faulting, most recently sanctioned in a 2850m Laval Class D mid-September. Shoes on again and best to hold off

7. FLASH DU BIWETZ – Last of 7 in a 2850m Vincennes harness Class C 10 days ago, on 2nd start back, and even racing barefoot for his return to the code, seems to need another race

8. HIS DREAM DE CAHOT – Valiant but never-dangerous 7th of 11 finishers in a 2700m Vincennes Class B mid-September. Takes a notable drop down the category-ladder and looks principal threat to DOWHATYOUDODOWELL (11)

9. FALCON D’OURVILLE – Takes first competitive monté steps after finishing last but one in a 2950m Toulouse Class D, and even with Damien Bonne on board, has no realistic chance

10. HELLO JADE RUSH – 2nd to a very good horse in a 2700m Vincennes Class D 2.5 weeks ago. Has been knocking at the door all summer and although unlikely to impose this time, she has hind shoes off and can play an active role

11. DOWHATYOUDODOWELL – Missed out by little in a 2750m Cabourg Class D on 23 August. Has been thriving in both codes lately and returns to the monté discipline with every chance of opening his Meslay account

12. HUGO OCCAGNES – Drops back in category after coming 6th of 11 in a 2700m Vincennes Class B on 13 September. Boasts honourable Meslay credentials and should not be too far from the action

Summary: DOWHATYOUDODOWELL (11) has been doing it very well indeed lately, has been excelling with Clément Frécelle and, with form maintained, will take some beating. HIS DREAM DE CAHOT (8) drops back in category after holding his own in more exalted company last month and, together with the returning IMAGINE D’ATOUT (4), who has won 6 of her last 8 monté starts, represent the main dangers. On a productive run of form, and confirmed here mid-May, IKURO JIEL (2) will have claims on a place in the frame.

C8 – PRIX FITECO – 2875m (a2m) – Class D Race – Harness – EUR € 26,000

1. HELEGANE JASMA – Back under harness after winning a 2950m Vichy monté Class F 2.5 weeks ago. Has other priorities though and can be disregarded

2. IBANQUE LEBEL – Pleased at Cabourg before coming 5th of 9 in a 2750m Ecommoy Class E 3.5 weeks ago. Is comfortable racing clockwise and will not be far off the mark if she takes to the new profile

3. HERA DU DONJON – Reassured somewhat at Villedieu before finishing 14th of 17 in a 2950m Saint-Malo Class F last Sunday, and backs up with very limited chances

4. IGGY POP DE CHENU – Can trot but not the most reliable horse here, most recently an unremarkable 6th of 9 in a 2850m Parilly Class E a fortnight ago, and will need to find more

5. HOLDING GIRL – 7th of 10 in a 3250m Class F at Saint-Ouen-des-Toits 3.5 weeks ago. Has done nothing noteworthy for some time and can be ruled out

6. HYSOPE DU BOCAGE – Occasionally unfocused but has otherwise been in cracking form, most recently coming close 2nd of 13 in a 2725m Pornichet Class F late-August, and with Benjamin Rochard keeping faith, can play a prominent role

7. IDOLE D’OURVILLE – 11th of 14 in a 2725m Pornichet Class F 11 days ago. Form heading in wrong direction and must get her house in order

8. HERAKLION DESBOIS – Has gradually started to come good again, latterly 6th of 15 in a 3000m Nantes Class F last Friday. Yet to deliver here but her latest effort gives reason for hope. First 5

9. INDIAN PACIFIC – Easily won a 2650m Class F at Les Sables-d’Olonne on 6 September. Is confirmed under these conditions and, barefoot for the occasion, can confirm

10. HARBOUR D’ORGERES – Out of the picture in last 4, latterly 8th of 11 in a 2800m Bernay Class F a week ago. Has merit but has no love for the venue and a minor place prospect at best

11. HIRONDELLE FEE – Put a brace of sanctions behind her to run close 3rd of 12 in a 2950m Le Mans Class E 3 weeks ago. Shod to preference this time and, if applied, will be no easy touch

12. ICARE DE PHYT’S – Makes Meslay-du-Maine debut on a 4-timer, most recently dominating a 2550m Beaumont-de-Lomagne Class C on 9 September, and is in with a realistic shout of pulling it off

13. HAURORE – 10th of 13 in a 2200m Caen Class D 2 weeks ago. Has otherwise been in fine form and is not one to be overlooked. Attention

Summary: ICARE DE PHYT’S (12) pulled off the hat-trick in a competitive affair at Beaumont-de-Lomagne early last month and a similar performance would see him dispose of the rejuvenated INDIAN PACIFIC (9) who has won 2 of his last 3 racing left-handed. Solid as a rock in 3 of her last 4, HYSOPE DU BOCAGE (6) is proven racing clockwise and in current form is very easy to like. HIRONDELLE FEE (11) put in a superb final effort at Le Mans last time and, with hind shoes off, looks particularly competitive.

SO CLOSE (2) will be ridden by Guyon, was a winner on debut and followed up with a gallant effort to finish 2nd at La Teste. Big chance. ELIOTT CHOP (11) is a long time, professional maiden who is testing our patience. Should, hopefully get it all right soon, but for today, has more of a place chance than a winning one.
