MAESTER OWEN (2) can do way better than his last two efforts and is one for the shortlist. ASHIANAS KING (4) has shown some ability in both starts in France and should win locally soon.

- EXHIT – Will need to do way more than latest 6th finish at Deauville over 2500m and others should be way stronger
- LAMALINK – Placed only 8th last time when racing over 2600m at Nimes and will need to serve up a lot more to feature here. Happy to ignore from all bets
- REGINA LILLIE – Current form has been on the decline for some time and over various trips. Hard to make a case for and would be a surprise winner
- AMERICAN SAINT – Only managed 11th place last time and much more is needed to threaten here. Happy to ignore from all bets

JUFULL DU SEUIL (3) posted a creditable effort when 2nd over 2500m at Deauville late last month and has a huge chance here. Big runner and a must for all bets. I’M ON MY WAY (4) has a strong place chance but is making us wait for the next win. FEEDESREVES (2) is a must for the quartet play. Respect and include.

C1 – PRIX DE L’HIVER – 2400m (a1m1/2) – Class F Race – Harness – EUR € 20,000
- JURA – Lightly raced and progressive trotter, especially in this barefoot configuration – at the top of his game after 2 wins from 3 recent appearances, the latest over 2725m at Pornichet on 31 October. Sets the standard
- JUST WINNER ROC – Experienced trotter with the means to play a leading role, especially if confirming/building on the form of his last-start 2nd (shod) at Graignes over 2725m on 23 November. Yoann Lebourgeois in the sulky an advantage
- JEROM BUTTERFLY – Regained momentum recently in 5 starts after a 4-month break, confirming the form and improvement of his 2nd at Chartres in October by finishing 4th over 2500m at Reims on 14 November (both in this shoe-fitting)
- JOAL FIX – Honest hard-knocker with sound references/form credentials – seldom far off the mark, though hard to win with (2 wins from 37 starts). Didn’t go unnoticed (6th) in a course-and-distance event on 15 November
- JERIDAN JASMA – Versatile but unreliable trotter who isn’t entirely incapable of getting into the picture if bouncing back from a last-start disqualification in a similar course-and-distance contest on 5 October. For lovers of outsiders
- JOYAU PIYA – Inconsistent but undeniably capable performer whose last-start 2800m victory at Chartres on 26 November proved he retains sufficient means. Confirmation expected
- JARVIS – Sparingly raced trotter with the form and experience to play a leading role, even with his irons fitted. Caught the eye when finishing 5th (shod) over 2500m at Reims on 14 November resuming after a 6-month absence
- JERRY PAULO – Placed once (3rd) in 7 appearances this year but disqualified in 3 outings, including his latest at Mauquenchy over 2850m on 17 November. Others preferred
- JUPITER D’ALIENIS – Honest hard-knocking trotter with sound references/form credentials, which include finishing 3rd in 2 of his last 3 starts – the latest over 2850m at Mauquenchy on 22 November. Dark horse

- JUSSIEU PIYA – Opened his account at Castéra-Verduzan over 2150m in August but made no impression in his 2 subsequent starts, the latest (10th) on this track over the same distance on 15 November. For another day
- JAG DE TOI – Improved recently in 3 starts with this shoeing configuration. Confirmed as much with a course-and-distance victory on 15 November so shouldn’t be taken lightly, despite his second-row starting berth
- JAGUAR D’ERABLE – He revealed considerable promise early in his career but has flattered to deceive this year (disqualified twice and unplaced 4 times in 6 starts this year, the latest (7th) over 2950m at Saint-Malo on 1 November. Could do better racing in this shoe-fitting for the first time
- JARODE PAULOIS – Confirmed the form/improvement of his Strasbourg 2nd last month by filling the runners-up berth again at Agen over 2575m on 17 November. Attractive outsider
Summary: JURA (1) won easily enough at Pornichet last time to suggest that he can follow up against this opposition. JUST WINNER ROC (2) is ideally positioned behind the autostart and is expected to challenge for race honours, especially with Yoann Lebourgeois at the helm. Lightened in his shoeing, JAGUAR D’ERABLE (13) could overcome his awkward starting berth to have a say in the outcome. JOYAU PIYA (6) isn’t taken lightly and will be on the premises too.

- HENZO DREAM – Honest hard-knocker whose form/consistency and experience should stand him in good stead. Shouldn’t be hastily condemned for his failure (disqualification) at Vire on 1 December – has the means to redeem himself
- FRINGANT PACHA – A veteran trotter whose efficiency/competitiveness at this level and under these conditions is beyond doubt. Showed his form and well-being with an encouraging 4th over 2825m at Chartres on 26 November
- HISTOIRE DE JAVA – Versatile veteran with sound references in both codes – seldom finishes far off the mark. Didn’t go unnoticed when finishing 6th in a 2850m mounted race at Mauquenchy on 24 November
- HOUPLALA LIRE – Experienced mare with references at a higher level, though most effective racing unshod. Soundly beaten in her last 2 starts, both shod – the latest (14th) in a 2750m Quinte+ event at Cabourg on 12 July. Watch for now
- HARRY DE MIENNAIS – Soundly beaten in 3 consecutive recent outings, the latest (14th) over 2800m at Vire on 1 December. Judged on his best references, he could get into the picture in a race of this nature Yoann Lebourgeois at the helm

- HECTOR DU MINON – Won back-to-back 2550m races at Dieppe in September but lost her way since – disqualified in 3 subsequent appearances and unplaced twice, including her last start (10th) at Mauquenchy over 2850m on 28 November
- GRILLE PAIN – Unbeaten in 2 starts with this shoe-fitting but hasn’t been seen since winning over 2550m at Bordeaux a year ago (on 28 December 2023). Not taken lightly on his reappearance, especially in this configuration – beware!
- HAS DE COEUR – Bounced back to form with a reassuring 4th over 2800m at Vire on 1 December and needs only to confirm the form/improvement of that performance to fight for victory. Winning chance
- HASHTAG CHAMANT – Experienced hard-knocker with sound references/form credentials at a higher level under these conditions. Finished 10th in a much stronger race over 2100m at Vincennes on 17 November but should fare better here

Hard-knocker HENZO DREAM (6), experienced HASHTAG CHAMANT (16) and delicate HAYRTON MAGIC (12) are also legitimate contenders for a podium berth. FRINGANT PACHA (7) and HORSE DE GRAMMONT (1) can make their presence felt too.

- HORIZON D’AMARO – Delicate trotter, seldom far from a fault – disqualified in 4 of his last 5 races, including each of his last 3 starts. Returned from a 3-month absence faulting at Mauquenchy on 28 November – retains the means to do better
- HOTESSE NAY – Experienced mare with sound form references but is most effective without her irons (unshod). Absent since finishing 4th over 2550m at Reims on 20 May – best watched for now

- ISIA DU CHENE – Delicate and seldom far from a fault but won back-to-back races in July before fluffing her lines (disqualified) at Argentan on 10 August. Absent since but is barefoot on her return with David Thomain engaged – respect
Summary: IGOLO (6), despite finishing unplaced in both comeback outings after a long absence, is an attractive betting proposition and will be hard to beat if rediscovering his earlier form, especially under these favourable conditions. He is ideally engaged and is taken to get the better of ultra-consistent HEIDI DU BISET (7), who will have her supporters with Yoann Lebourgeois in the sulky. ISIA DU CHENE (12), HAKIM DES CHAMPS (5) and HERCULE DE BEA (2) complete the shortlist.

- JAHIA DU TRIO – Last-start winner in this (barefoot) configuration at Pornichet over 2725m on 31 October and she should play another leading role here under similar conditions. Respected
- JOLLY LADY – Inconsistent and out of sorts recently. Unlikely to trouble the judge on the evidence of her last start (13th) at Châteaubriant on 1 December. Others preferred
- JOYCE MESS – Consistent hard-knocker with sound references. Shouldn’t be hastily condemned for her latest failure (11th) over 2825m at Cordemais on 24 November – can do better
- JONCTION HAUFOR – Disqualified more often than not (in 7 of her last 8 starts) but has the undeniable means to win a race like this if applied/remaining wise. The drop in class and switch to this shoe-fitting for the first time could well prove a masterstroke – question of wisdom

- JIRCA DU COQ – Experienced mare soundly beaten (unplaced) in all 9 appearances this year, the latest (12th) at Chartres over 2800m on 26 November. Others preferred

Summary: JONCTION HAUFOR (9) continues to frustrate and has been costly to follow but she retains the undeniable means to win a race of this nature. Everything will again be a question of wisdom for the enigmatic mare. Last-start Chartres scorer JUDITH D’ARBAZ (2) is ideally positioned and favourably engaged under these conditions. She seems best equipped to pick up the pieces should the selection fluff her lines. Delicate YOUNG ORANGE COTON (4), JAKARTA MADRIK (1) with Yoann Lebourgeois, and recent Pornichet winner JAHIA DU TRIO (6) appeal most of the remainder.

Summary: KING DE L’ORMERIE (1) won when he was at this track before and in a weak race he can score again. KRONOS DE TROIS (2) faulted last time out but does have some ability and would not be a surprise winner. So for that matter KARAMBA KARACHO (5) can also be considered a threat in this line-up.
